Late Night With Seth Meyers

Sheryl Crow has a friend in Olivia Rodrigo. While chatting about her new album Evolution on Late Night With Seth Meyers on Thursday night (March 28), the 62-year-old singer-songwriter opened up about her bond with the “Drivers License” singer.

“I met her at Billboard Women in Music and I just really liked her,” Crow recalled. “I’d already had her record and I loved the way she wrote. It’s very punk, it’s like the Breeders meets Deborah Harry.”

Both women were present at the 2022 Billboard Women in Music ceremony, where the “Strong Enough” artist presented Rodrigo with Woman of the Year. “Sheryl, I am such a massive fan of you and your songwriting and I’m so grateful that you’re here,” the former Disney star said in her acceptance speech. “It really means the world.”

In November, it was Rodrigo’s turn to show up for her friend, with the pair performing “If It Makes You Happy” together at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame ceremony in honor of Crow’s 2023 induction. Since then, the duo have sung the 1996 hit side-by-side at the Bluebird Cafe in Nashville and, most recently, at one of the “Vampire” artist’s Guts World Tour shows.

Backstage at the RRHOF ceremony, Crow told Billboard of her connection with Rodrigo: “All I can say is I paid homage to the women that were before me, and I know how much they mean to me. I don’t take it lightly at all. I still look to them — my friendship with Stevie Nicks is genuine, but I’m still in awe of her. Yeah, I don’t take it lightly.”

“I’m so impressed with how down to earth and together she is, like unfazed by it,” Crow added of Rodrigo to Meyers. “I’ve gotten to know her since then, and I adore her.”

Released Friday (March 29), Evolution marks Crow’s first album since 2019’s Threads. Rodrigo also recently unveiled a new set, dropping the deluxe version of her Billboard 200-topping sophomore record Guts last week.

Pres. Joe Biden gets it. The commander-in-chief stopped by Late Night With Seth Meyers on Monday night (Feb. 26) to help the show’s host celebrate his show’s 10th anniversary, and to keep stoking the fires of right-wingnut conspiracy theories about his alleged devious plot to secure the most important endorsement in this year’s presidential campaign.
“Can you confirm or deny that there is an active conspiracy between you and Miss Swift?,” Meyers asked Biden about the allegations from conservatives that the President is working behind the scenes with Taylor Swift and boyfriend Travis Kelce to boost his campaign against expected challenger Donald Trump by locking in the power couple’s endorsement.

“Where are you getting this information? It’s classified. That’s classified information,” Biden said with a smile in a rare late night appearance. “But I will tell you, she did endorse me in 2020.”

Meyers was as relentless as a White House pool reporter in his questioning, wondering if the Swift thumbs up might “come around again.” Biden still wouldn’t bite, joking, “I told you it’s classified.”

Before this month’s Super Bowl, conservatives got spun up about a made-up theory that Swift and Kelce had cooked up a plot with the White House to have the pair officially endorse Biden after Kelce and the Kansas City Chiefs won Super Bowl LVIII. The visit by Biden — his first as a sitting president — marked the 10th anniversary of the launch of Late Night. Biden, then Vice President, and the night’s other guest, Amy Poehler, were the inaugural guests on Meyers’ first broadcast on Feb. 24, 2014.

Biden, 81, also had jokes, noting that Trump, 77, is “about as old as I am but he can’t even remember his wife’s name,” in response to a question about concerns related to his age; Biden is the oldest sitting president and would be the oldest president to ever serve if he wins a second term. “It’s about how old your ideas are,” he added about Trump, the twice-indicted, one-term president who is facing 91 felony counts in four different cases as he mounts his third run for the White House. “This about a guy who wants to take us back, he wants to take us back on Roe V. Wade, he wants to take us back on a whole range of issues that for 50-60 years they have been solid American positions.”

The president — who was sporting a flag pin on his lapel featuring the American and Ukrainian flags in the midst of a fight in Congress over further funding for the war in Ukraine — also sat on the couch with Poehler to reminisce about his guest spot on Parks and Recreation. Meyers asked Biden about his seemingly playful adoption of the “Dark Brandon” right-wing meme, to which Biden responded, “no, I resent the hell out of it,” as he slipped on DB’s signature dark aviator shades to wild applause from the studio audience.

This year is less than a month old, but Reneé Rapp is already knocking fans off their feet – and herself, literally – in 2024. And in between the release of Mean Girls and her upcoming appearance on this weekend’s Saturday Night Live, the rising superstar stopped by Late Night on Wednesday (Jan. 17) to chat with Seth Meyers about her accomplishments, along with the recent viral moment she wiped out on the sidewalk on her birthday.
“It was literally painful,” Rapp said as Meyers held up a photo of her scraped knee, followed by paparazzi snaps in Page Six of the “Snow Angel” singer taking a spill with a bottle of champagne in hand.

“I was walking out and I was like, ‘It’s my f—king birthday,’” recalled Rapp, who turned 24 on Jan. 10. “I was like, ‘Who’s coming for me right now? Nobody.’ Mind you, I ended up coming for myself.”

“It’s a sign I’m gonna have a great year,” she added, smiling. “I have a little scar.”

Rapp, who’s fresh off the release of “Not My Fault” with Megan Thee Stallion for the soundtrack of the Mean Girls movie musical adaptation – in which the Broadway vet also stars – will make her SNL debut as musical guest on Saturday (Jan. 20). Earlier this week, it was announced that Rapp would perform at this year’s Coachella, billed just under headliners Lana Del Rey, Tyler, the Creator and Doja Cat.

“Chappel Roan is playing and I’m really excited,” she told Meyers. “So is Sabrina Carpenter – my girls are playing I’m very excited to go see them.”

In addition to her birthday tumble, Rapp has been generating a number of viral clips while promoting Mean Girls on the film’s press junket. In one video, she rants about a “disrespectful” and “misogynistic” tour bus businessman named Buddy as her costar, The Summer I Turned Pretty’s Chris Briney, looks on in disbelief.

In another recent video from BuzzFeed UK, she gently chides Briney for not recognizing Beyoncé or Lady Gaga in photos from their 2010 music video for “Telephone.” “Oh my– oh my god. Have you ever heard ‘Telephone?’” she asks him as he shakes his head nervously.

“I’m like, sweating,” Briney tells her. “Am I canceled? Is this it for me?”

“No you’re not canceled!” she responds, laughing. “You’re just straight, it’s OK.”

Jack Antonoff spent much of the last few years collaborating with superstars like Taylor Swift and Lana Del Rey — and on his Thursday night (Dec. 21) visit to Late Night with Seth Meyers, the producer revealed what it’s really like to make music with the pop auteurs. “I’m really proud of those two,” the […]

Dua Lipa and Seth Meyers got tanked on Monday night (Dec. 11) in the latest edition of the late night host’s boozy bit “Day Drinking” segment. In keeping with the theme of the singer’s latest single, “Houdini,” Meyers started out with a run of mixed drinks with magical qualities, including a “Houtini,” which mixed vodka, tequila blanco, white rum and a hard pour of curaçao. The addition of some lemon juice “magically” changed the color of the drink, which Meyers dubbed “a wildly unimpressive effect.”
From the looks of the frown on Dua’s face, it was also had a wildly unimpressive taste.

Things didn’t get much better with a gummy-infused concoction called an “Abracadabra,” featuring Harry Potter butter beer. The shenanigans just got more confusing as the bit went on, with Meyers subjecting the singer to a game called “Pick a Card, Any Card,” whose categories included alcohol, common mixers, uncommon mixers and the dreaded “dusty old bottles you’d sneak a drink from at your grandparents.”

In the latter, we learned that Lipa pronounced bourbon “borbon,” which delighted Meyers as he began making the world’s worst drink, which blended borbon, soda, green juice and calvados, a drink the host promised would “suck ass.” It just got worse from there with a drink that mixed tequila, Red Bull, pumpkin spice latte and Campari, dubbed the “Second Wind,” which the pair said could be summed up by one word: “curdling.”

In another round inspired by Houdini, Meyers and Lipa lined up a round of shots and had to down them to find out if they were alcohol or water, with the “Levitating” singer hitting booze three times in a row before striking agua.

Finally, they got to a game inspired by Dua’s single “IDGAF,” in which Meyers asked Dua a question, to which she could answer “I don’t give a f–k” or take a shot. She struck first, asking Meyers to rank his three children in order from least to most favorite: that one ended up with a shot. When Meyers asked Dua to name the most famous person who has slid into her DMs, she laughed and took the shot.

Meyers wasn’t so tame when it came to a question about which of his Strike Force Five podcast co-hosts he liked the least, looking at the camera and slurring, “I don’t think the British should be allowed to have talk shows,” he said, seemingly calling out Emmy magnet and Last Week Tonight host John Oliver. “We found the revalsuh… the Revolutionary War… John Oliver, go back home.”

“Wow, you hate the Brits!” Dua said laughing. “I don’t hate the Brits, I just f–king hate you, John,” Meyers slurred as a promo card for a series of upcoming Oliver/Meyers joint stand-up tour dates filled the screen. After Lipa served up her favorite Albanian swear word, the singer declined to name one of the “many fake-ass b–ches in the world,” while Meyers was happy to say what he hates about being a dad (“they’re so dumb.”)

When things got serious near the end, Dua took the Lizzo road and refused to pick between Oprah and Beyoncé, but the host did get her to sing “Happy Birthday” in her best Cockney accent. They then became the most annoying people in the bar when they tried to match each other’s high notes and ended with the traditional drunk’s prayer: “you’re my best friend.”

Don’t ever challenge Rihanna to a drink-off. Seth Meyers has revealed that after hitting the bars with the superstar in June 2019 for his show’s “Day Drinking” bit, he was as hammered as he’s ever been in his life, while RihRih seemed pretty much unaffected.

“Rihanna was the drunkest I’ve ever been, and it was worth every second of it,” the late night host shared on Monday night’s (April 18) visit to the The Late Late Show with James Corden. “First of all, I should note that — hate to break the news here — but she’s younger than me. We drank the same amount and then she definitely went out, like she was fine.”

“She walked out, she looked as good as she did when we started,” Meyers continued. “I went home, immediately fell asleep in the hallway of my apartment. Got in the door, fell asleep. My wife passive aggressively, James, put a water next to my head and went to bed.”

For proof, the former SNL star shared a photo of him passed out on his back in his hallway, limbs spread out limply to the side with his cell phone resting on his chest. “I like that I have my phone on my chest just in case Rihanna called,” Meyers joked to friend he will share an overlapping late night spot with for one more week; Corden is signing off from The Late Late Show on April 27.

He and the Fenty Beauty mogul filmed their day drinking escapade in 2019 for a recurring segment on Late Night with Seth Meyers, which has also seen the likes of Lizzo, the Jonas Brothers and Lorde getting tanked in broad daylight with the host. During the segment, Seth and Rih chugged beers, enjoyed bizarre cocktails named after Rihanna songs — “Under My Rumbrella,” for example — and played increasingly sloppy drinking games. And Meyers, indeed, did seem quite sloshed by the end of it.
