Katy Perry

Katy Perry has taken time out of her current Australian tour to appear at a Melbourne nightclub celebrating her music.
Perry’s onstage appearance occurred at Chasers Nightclub on Saturday (June 14) following the final Melbourne date of her Lifetimes Tour at Rod Laver Arena. As part of the club’s LGBTQIA+ Poof Doof night, that evening also featured its Katy Club event, where attendees celebrated the music of the pop icon.

However, following a similar event in Brisbane the previous evening, the Melbourne edition featured a special guest by way of Perry herself, who bought the club an evening of free drinks.

“You guys raised me,” footage of the event shows Perry telling the crowd. “I thank you and I love you, you are my chosen family.”

“Because you are my chosen family, a mother must provide for her children,” she added. “So as a provider, I would like to open the bar for one hour. The drinks are on me, baby!”

Notably, Perry’s crashing of her own themed event follows on from a similar instance in Sydney where Lorde appeared at local venue Mary’s Underground while it was hosting an evening dubbed What Was That – after the New Zealand musician’s recent single.

Perry’s Australian tour launched in early June and has so far featured four sold-out dates in Melbourne and three in Sydney. During a recent show at Sydney’s Qudos Bank Arena on June 9, Perry’s performance gained attention after she was joined by a stage invader during her set.

Footage of the incident showed an individual appearing onstage, putting his arm around Perry, who instinctively turns away as the fan continues to dance. “There’s never going to be another show like this, so just enjoy it!” Perry told the audience in response.

The individual was later identified as Johnson Wen, a “serial prankster” known for posting videos of stage invasions to TikTok under the username @pyjamamann. Wen was later arrested and taken to Auburn police station where he was subsequently charged with “entering enclosed land and obstructing a person in performance of work or duties.”

Wen has since been granted conditional bail ahead of a court appearance on June 23, and has been issued a six month ban from the Sydney Olympic Park precinct which houses Qudos Bank Arena.

Perry’s tour continues on Tuesday (June 17) with the first of two sold-out dates in Brisbane, before shows in Perth and Adelaide.

Katy Perry‘s latest performance in Sydney was marked by a memorable moment, with an individual escorted away by security after a stage invasion. Katy Perry has assured fans that she’s “ok,” despite a recent barrage of online vitriol that has come her way.
The singer addressed the recent negativity from online commentators in an Instagram comment on a fan page, expressing her gratitude toward her fans for their ongoing support during what she labels an undoubtedly difficult time.

“I’m so grateful for you guys. We’re in this beautiful and wild journey together,” Perry wrote. “I can continue to remain true to myself, heart open and honest especially because of our bond. I love you guys and have grown up together with you and am so excited to see you all over the world this year!”

Perry has found herself as something of a lightning rod for negativity in the past few weeks, with much of the discourse related to her spaceflight aboard the Blue Origin NS-31 on April 14.

While the likes of Kesha had been roped into the ongoing drama following an online post that seemingly referenced fast-food chain Wendy’s’ snarky jab at the “Firework” singer, English musician Lily Allen recently walked back her comments about calling Perry and her spaceflight “out of touch.”

Trending on Billboard

“There was actually no need for me to bring her name into it, and it was my own internalized misogyny,” Allen said on her Miss Me? podcast. “I’ve been thinking about it a lot, and it was just completely unnecessary to pile on with her. I disagree with what it was that they did, but she wasn’t the only person that did it. She was possibly the most famous and the one that divides people the most.”

The Instagram post which Perry responded to was a video of a Times Square billboard that congratulated the singer for the opening week of her Liftimes tour, and ostensibly aimed to serve as comfort amidst the online backlash.

As Perry continued, she explained that much of her ability to survive the barrage of negative comments has come about through plenty of therapy and personal growth.

“Please know I am ok, I have done a lot work around knowing who I am, what is real and what is important to me,” she noted. “My therapist said something years ago that has been a game changer, ‘no one can make you believe something about yourself that you don’t already believe about yourself’ and if I ever do have any feelings about it then it’s an opportunity to investigate the feeling underneath it.

“When the ‘online’ world tries to make me a human Piñata, I take it with grace and send them love, cause I know so many people are hurting in so many ways and the internet is very much so a dumping ground for unhinged and unhealed.”

Perry recently launched her Liftimes tour in Mexico on April 23, with each night also featuring fans being brought onstage during a special request section of the set. “What’s real is seeing your faces every night, singing in unison, reading your notes, feeling your warmth,” she concluded. “I find people to lock eyes and sing with and I know we are healing each other in a small way when I get to do that.

“I’m not perfect, and I actually have omitted that word from my vocabulary, I’m on a human journey playing the game of life with an audience of many and sometimes I fall but… I get back up and go on and continue to play the game and somehow through my battered and bruised adventure I keep looking to the light and in that light a new level UNLOCKS.”

Perry will bring her Lifetimes tour to the U.S. next week, with a headline date in Houston, TX set to take place on May 7.

The two rallies will take place simultaneously, with both the Philadelphia and Pittsburgh events running from 5pm—10pm EST, with Harris slated to appear in person at both.

The Harris campaign has also revealed the special guests who will be appearing at each rally, with the Pittsburgh event featuring Andra Day, DJ Arie Cole, D-Nice, and Katy Perry.

Meanwhile, the Philadelphia rally is a rather stacked affair, with DJ Jazzy Jeff, Fat Joe, and Oprah Winfrey appearing as guest speakers, while Adam Blackstone, DJ Cassidy, Freeway and Just Blaze, Jazmine Sullivan, Lady Gaga, Ricky Martin, and The Roots serve as special musical guests.

“It’s time to get ready to vote–I’ll see you guys in Pennsylvania,” Lady Gaga shared in a brief video shared to Instagram alongside the announcement of the rallies.

Harris’ previous campaigns have recruited a number of high-profile celebrities in recent weeks, including Bruce Springsteen, Jennifer Lopez, Beyoncé, Cardi B, and more.

“I understand folks have different opinions about things, but this election is about a group of folks who want to fundamentally undermine our American way of life,” Springsteen said to those in attendance at an earlier Philadelphia rally last week (Oct. 28). “Donald Trump doesn’t understand this country, its history, or what it means to be deeply American.”

Ahead of Lady Gaga, Katy Perry, and others being announced for the Election Day eve rallies, rumors had swirled that Taylor Swift may have been booked to appear, with the Pennsylvania native having thrown her support behind the Harris campaign in September, just hours after the first Presidential Debate.

“Like many of you, I watched the debate tonight. If you haven’t already, now is a great time to do your research on the issues at hand and the stances these candidates take on the topics that matter to you the most,” Swift wrote. “As a voter, I make sure to watch and read everything I can about their proposed policies and plans for this country.”

“The concert will celebrate a new chapter in the nation’s history, with themes of love, respect and optimism, celebrating the four nations, their communities and the Commonwealth,” the BBC said in a statement to the publication.

It’s no surprise that American Idol judges Perry and Richie are performing at the coronation concert, as they’ve had ties to the royal family for years. In a new interview with Out, Perry said that it’s about time she hits the road again. “I still love making music. I still love spreading light and love,” she told the publication. “I know there’s a lot of people who couldn’t make it to Vegas. The last time I was on tour was in 2018. I’m… due. How about that? I’m due to go out and see the kids that couldn’t make it to Vegas.”

As for her extravagant Vegas residency, titled Play, the 38-year-old superstar looks back on the experience fondly and with empowerment. “I’m just so proud of the show that we created and we put on. It is such a spectacular show that we love so much,” she shared. “It’s almost like the greatest hits show! I call it all thriller, no filler. I wish I could bring it to the rest of the world, but it’s just not technically possible to cart around OTT toilets and bathtubs. Closing a chapter on Play allows me to start a new chapter. I’m so excited for the potential of my story to continue.”

The power-packed set list kicked off with “ET,” “Chained to the Rhythm,” “Dark Horse” and “It’s Not the End of the World,” and included hits like “California Gurls,” “Hot N’ Cold/Last Friday Night,” “Waking up in Vegas,” “Bon Appetit,” “Daisies,” “I Kissed a Girl,” “Lost/Part of Me/Wide Awake,” “Swish Swish,” “When I’m Gone/Walking on Air!,” “Never Really Over,” “Teenage Dream,” “Smile” and Roar.”

To kick off the evening, The Kid LAROI delivered a surprise acoustic performance of his Billboard Hot 100 chart-topping Justin Bieber collaboration, “Stay.” He went on to accept the Excellence in Music award by the evening’s host, Angela Bishop, with his parents in attendance in the crowd. “I’m not really a big award guy, but I will say this is something I’m really honored to take, not just because it’s really cool, but I have both of my parents here tonight,” the 19-year-old New South Wales native told the audience. “I’m pretty shy, I don’t like doing this type of stuff, but I’m doing this for them because I know this makes them really really proud.”

Later on in the evening, supermodel Miranda Kerr was presented with the Excellence in Arts award, given to her by her friend Katy Perry, who also happens to be married to Kerr’s ex-husband Orlando Bloom. “Many of you may be confused as to why I’m presenting Miranda with this award,” Perry said during her presentation. “It doesn’t fit the ex-wife, new wife narrative. Many in the media would like to see us mud wrestle, but this is about love, and Miranda is love.”

“I’m here to present the Excellence in Arts award to my sister from another mister, my health and wellness guru, and the heart of our family, Miranda Kerr,” she added.
