Rapper Joey Bada$$ and his fiancee Serayah are embarking on a new chapter of life together after announcing that they’re expecting a boy. The pair opened up about their relationship in the latest issue of ESSENCE, which features them on their cover. https://www.instagram.com/p/DJ9hC3lNfeg/?utm_source=ig_web_copy_link&igsh=MzRlODBiNWFlZA==

“There’s a lot of transitional things happening in our lives, and it’s very, very symbolic at this point in time right now,” the Raising Kanan and Mr. Robot actor said in the interview, remarking that he and Serayah are at the “beginning of a new chapter,” as they enter their 30s.For the singer and model, she first revealed that she was pregnant as she walked the runway for AdoreMe during New York Fashion Week in February of this year. “The stars just aligned. We didn’t coordinate or plan anything out,” she said to ESSENCE, continuing: “I disclosed to them that I was, I think at the time, around five or six months pregnant. When they said that they were fine with it, I was like, ‘Okay, well maybe this is the opportunity, and this will be the moment.”Joey Bada$$ also shared how prior to meeting Serayah, he was comfortable being polyamorous. “That was where I was at in my life at the time,” he said. “I was very much living a lifestyle of a bachelor and it just aligned with what I was doing. But I met Ray, I bought a home, and it just changed my perspective. It definitely shifted, and the dynamic that I wanted changed. So I’m very much monogamous now, and I don’t discourage or disagree with anybody going after polyamory or whatever if that’s what you want to do. But this is where I’m at now and this is where I feel secure.”

The Pro Era rapper already has a daughter from a previous relationship, who he said was reluctant about having a sibling at first. “I think she’s like, ‘I got to share my daddy now?’ But I already know she’s going to come around,” he added. “She’s going to be super hands-on.”The interview’s publication comes at a principal time for Joey Bada$$, as he’s currently engrossed in a torrid rap battle with MCs repping the West Coast in Ray Vaughn, Daylyt and AZ Chike. He’s also confirmed that there will be a new album on the way, with an expected release date of Aug. 30.

Rapper and actor, Joey Bada$$ is letting it be known that he’s not just an entertainer, he’s an advocate for young Black men and men of color who wants to see them gain all the tools they need to succeed in a world that often counts them out. That’s why the Brooklyn MC announced a new mentorship program that won’t cost them a dime but might offer invaluable knowledge and experience.

“I’m excited to announce that I’ve been silently working on a free mentorship program for men of color in the US & Puerto Rico called @impactmentorship,” the “Paper Trail$” rapper wrote on Instagram. “Inspired by my friend @sophchangnyc & @unlockherpotential. I recruited an impressive network of incredible mentors in the areas of ART, CULINARY, FASHION, FILM/TV, MEDIA, MUSIC, SPORTS.”

From Blavity:

The core objective of the mentorship program is “to commit to a man of color’s professional development and growth by sharing expertise, experience, wisdom, insights, guidance, and constructive criticism,” according to its website.
Impact Mentorship will offer mentees one hour a month to connect with experts in various industries for a year.
According to the Brookings Institute, “Black men have the highest unemployment rates of any race/gender group, and the lowest labor force participation and employment rates among men.” Impact Mentorship seeks to dismantle this narrative.
To expand access and bolster professional opportunities for young professionals, Impact Mentorship will strive to “provide a path” to freedom for its members: “We believe wholeheartedly that mentorship can help provide a path to professional and financial independence. In addition to career guidance, one of the most critical gifts the mentees receive is confidence.”

But like many programs like this, especially one you don’t have to come out of pocket for, space is limited, which is why Bada$$ warned his followers: “Due to the high profile of our mentors we anticipate significant demand for the program.”
“To increase your chances of matching with your chosen mentor, we strongly encourage all applicants to carefully research the program and mentors, prepare your application in advance and submit early,” he continued. “Good luck!”
Shout out to Joe Bada$$ for using his position and success to pay it forward. Impact Mentorship will begin accepting applications on October 15 through the 29th.

Amazon Music kicked off its 50 & Forever City Sessions summer concert series in New York City on Thursday night (July 20), and it was a vibe. On a relatively cool night for this hot summer, Curren$y and Joey Badass heated the stage for headliner Wale to close out with an energetic set.

It went down at the The Rooftop at Pier 17 in lower Manhattan and the crowd got their money’s worth. Curren$y reps New Orleans but came through fresh in a Lawrence Taylor throwback jersey while Joey Bada$$ was cool and collected in a Yankees jersey with a matching fitted. The opening acts enjoyed dedicated fans who arrived early to hear them run through some of their classic cuts.

Wale was the headliner, and you knew he didn’t come to play since he was rocking a pair of black Tiffany Air Force 1’s. With the New York City skyline as a backdrop (sort of), the DC native made sure to hit records like “Slight Work” and “On Chill” to the delight of a packed-out crowd that paid about $10 per ticket to get in. Good deal.
Also, DJ Clue kept the crowd engaged between sets, hitting modern and classic cuts. The only beef was that Wale was relegated to only about 45 minutes on stage.
Up next is Clipse and Rick Ross on Friday, July 28. Check out some photos from last night’s festivities in the gallery.
