In a new interview, John Boyega talks about his experience in the upcoming Netflix film They Cloned Tyrone as well as the increasing concerns of AI & acting.
The star actor spoke at length in a recent LEVEL cover story about his process of preparing for the lead role of Fontaine for the Netflix film, which also stars Jamie Foxx and Teyonnah Paris: “I was excited at the idea of multiple roles, the idea of playing someone significantly older. I love the idea of different looks because whereas the normality is to play a heightened version of yourself, this gives you a real opportunity to jump into what acting truly is.”
The London native and star of the recent Star Wars trilogy did also touch upon how the film challenges viewers to shed preconceived notions while watching. “When you’re in a modern society where we watch the news and the details of the news are packaged [for] TV, sometimes the nuance is lost,” Bodega said. “In order for us to comprehend the world, it’s easier to generalize.” Referencing Paris’ character of Yo-Yo, who is a sex worker, he elaborated: “Accepting that duality and using our brains to scan people more than just going on generalized stereotypes is a commentary that this film makes. I’m proud that this film does that.”
When asked about the growing usage of AI and the complexities behind it in the film industry and beyond, Boyega replied, “I’m at the stage now where I’m like, Oh crap, I didn’t know you can do that.” He continued: “In filmmaking, it will help us in some way. On the flip side, in terms of individuality, ownership, [and] fairness, that’s going to be a discussion that people are going to have to figure out.”
Of course, the discussion also turned to the idea of conspiracy theories which are interwoven into the plot of They Cloned Tyrone compelling the 31-year-old to state “maybe the truth in certain scenarios is not as extreme or interesting. Some of it is boring truth. But the funny thing about stimulation as a human being, we still love to discuss it” He also joked about his own conspiracy beliefs regarding celebrities: I was like, They probably got to get into some cult to get to a certain level of power. Then I became a celebrity and went, “That didn’t happen.” At least it doesn’t happen to me!”

With the world awaiting Jamie Foxx’s triumphant return to the game following a terrifying health scare just a few weeks ago, the trailer for his latest Netflix film, They Cloned Tyrone has released and it’s looking like it’s going to be a helluva entertaining film.
Starring Jamie Foxx, John Boyega and Teyonah Parris, They Cloned Tyrone centers around three characters named Pimp Slick Charles (Foxx), Fontaine (Boyega), and Yo-Yo (Parris) who stumble upon a government conspiracy which has experiments going down in the Black community unbeknownst to the locals. After witnessing their friend Tyrone (Tyler Antonius) get kidnapped, the three spring into action to retrieve their comrade only to find a secret facility where residents of the neighborhood are being cloned.
With the neighborhood behind them, the three decide to take it to the man and shut down whatever Get Out-ish experiments they got going on in the hood. What ensues is hilarity and we for one can’t wait to indulge in this conspiracy theory.
The Juel Taylor-directed feature is set to release on July 21 on Netflix. Check out the trailer to They Cloned Tyrone below and let us know if you’ll be checking it out when it streams next month.

We know Jamie Foxx is recovering and is actively playing pickleball. We also know he will continue to secure the bag alongside his daughter Corinne Foxx.
Spotted on Deadline, Jamie Foxx will be hosting another game show. The actor/musician is on the mend after suffering what his daughter described as a mystery “medical complication” and will be teaming up with his seed to host the new game show We Are Family on FOX.
Foxx will have plenty of time to get back to 100% health because the show is set to premiere on the network in 2024. Foxx already works alongside his daughter on Beat Shazam. Nick Cannon is currently handling guest hosting duties while he recovers.
“We are thrilled to be developing We Are Family with Jeff Apploff and our friends at Fox Entertainment after so much success with six seasons of Beat Shazam,” Jamie and Corinne Foxx said in a statement. “We hope this show brings as much fun to audiences at home as we’ve had creating it when it premieres next year.”
“Jamie and Corinne are important partners to the Fox family,” Allison Wallach, President of Unscripted Programming of Fox Entertainment, added. “Their boundless energy and charming interplay with contestants are irresistible, which make them the perfect hosts of We Are Family. This series joins Fox’s fast-growing list of premium music-centric competition series.
We Are Family Will Have An Interesting Family Twist
The website reports that We Are Family highlights non-famous relatives of celebrities teaming up with their hidden celebrity family members. At the same time, the contestants try and figure out which celebrity the performer is related to.
Per Deadline:
Showcasing non-famous relatives of celebrities performing duets with their hidden famous family member, We Are Family will feature a studio audience entirely comprised of 100 contestants playing through multiple rounds of clues and gameplay to win up to $100,000 each by correctly guessing which celebrity the performer is related to before they are revealed.
Sounds interesting.
Foxx will also serve as an executive producer on the game show. We can’t wait to see him and his daughter back on our television screens.
