The FBI is doubling its reward for tips leading to the arrest of a handful of escaped prisoners from a New Orleans prison. Last week, 10 prisoners made a brazen nighttime escape from the Orleans Justice Center, and authorities are combing New Orleans and beyond as they look to apprehend the remaining seven escapees.

The FBI’s New Orleans office issued a media alert regarding the 10 escapees from the Orleans Justice Center on May 16.

From the FBI New Orleans website:

At the request of the New Orleans Police Department, FBI New Orleans has surged resources to assist with apprehending inmates who escaped from the Orleans Parish Jail on May 16, 2025. The FBI routinely offers assistance to our law enforcement partners, to provide additional manpower and specialized resources.

In addition, the FBI is offering a reward of up to $5,000 for tips leading to the arrest of any of the inmates.

As reported by local outlet WDSU, Orleans Parish Sheriff Susan Hutson, who is up for reelection, is facing heavy criticism from residents and others regarding the escape. During a press conference, Sheriff Hutson suggested that the inmates may have been helped by someone who works for the Orleans Parish Police Department.

The outlet adds that three employees of the Orleans Justice Center were placed on suspension as an investigation takes place.

Taxstone might be facing additional time. The currently jailed media personality has been charged with smuggling contraband into a Brooklyn jail.

As per HipHopDX, several inmates at Brooklyn’s Metropolitan Detention Center are accused of either smuggling or being in possession of contraband. According to the United States Attorney’s Office, Taxstone used an elaborate scheme to sneak in different prohibited items including marijuana, cigarettes, lighters, a scalpel and more. Back in June of 2024, he is said to have conspired with Ian Diez, Jonathan Guerrero, Abel Mora and Mayovanex Rodriguez to bring in the contraband by throwing out a piece of line outside of a window. An individual located outside of the correctional facility would then “hook” and attach the package so it can be pulled back up and into the jail. Taxstone is alleged to have used a mobile phone to coordinate the plan with external parties who have yet to be identified.

“The safety and security of our federal detention facilities is paramount,” said United States Attorney Durham via a press release. “These actions undermine the order and security of MDC-Brooklyn and endanger everyone within its walls. My Office is working tirelessly to hold accountable those who commit violent acts or introduce contraband into the prison, whether they are inmates or staff.  These charges serve as a warning to those who would engage in criminal conduct behind bars, and anyone else who facilitates those crimes: your conduct will be uncovered, and you will be held accountable.”
If found guilty of smuggling, he could face an additional 10 years in prison. In June 2023, he was sentenced to 30 years for fatally shooting Troy Ave’s bodyguard at a nightclub. He was also sentenced to 10 years on federal gun charges in November 2023 for being a felon in possession of a firearm.

The man who has been convicted of the senseless murder of Rap pioneer Jam Master Jay was recently stabbed in a jail fight.

Karl “Little D” Jordan Jr. was recently involved in an altercation that led to him being stabbed at Metropolitan Detention Center (MDC) in Brooklyn, New York. According to The Daily News, the rumble stemmed from a dispute between two gangs. After the melee he was hospitalized and treated for his injuries, all which were non life-threatening. NBC News reports that a spokesman for the Bureau of Prisons confirmed that brawl happened around 1 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 22, between “multiple incarcerated individuals.” They also confirmed another unidentified individual also needed medical attention.

After many years of rumor and speculation the Jam Master Jay murder trial finally commenced in February 2024. Karl Jordan Jr. and Ronald Washington were both found guilty on counts of murder and trafficking. The United States Attorney’s Office allege that Jam Master Jay was financing drug buys. In August 2002, he is said to have purchased 10 kilograms of cocaine on consignment from a distributor out of California. The drugs were intended to be split up amongst Jam Master Jay and Karl Jordan, but a dispute led to the Rap pioneer cutting him out of the deal. Jam Master Jay was shot at his studio in Queens, New York, on Oct. 30, 2002.
Karl Jordan Jr. is currently awaiting sentencing.
