Taylor Swift took a brief break from her blockbuster The Eras Tour on Monday night (March 27), popping by Los Angelesâ Dolby Theater for the 2023 iHeartRadio Music Awards to accept the Innovator Award.
Phoebe Bridgers presented the award to her âNothing Newâ collaborator, explaining how hearing a young Swift singing her own songs on country radio when she was growing up is what inspired her to become an autobiographical songwriter.
âI was listening to country radio one day with my mom and Taylor came on,â Bridgers said. âI heard a girl not much older than me singing a song she had written about her own life and the song was really good. As I grew up, so did Taylor, and so did her songs.
âTaylor has always told the truth,â Bridgers added. âShe has always written songs about exactly where she is. Iâm grateful to have grown up in a world with Taylor Swift in it. Or âThe World (Taylorâs Version).’â
Before Swift took the stage, a video montage played of her famous friends and fans â including Selena Gomez (âShe can represent what sheâs walking through so wellâ) and Dolly Parton (âWe wanna keep you around foreverâ) â singing Swiftâs praises.
âAnyone who is part of that video, that video really blew my mind,â Swift said, before launching into her speech and marveling at being labeled an âInnovator.â
âI never a single time woke up in the morning and said, âYou know what Iâm gonna do today? Iâm gonna innovate stuff,’â she said. âWhat I did do was make the right decisions for me. People want an example of something working before, but I think the coolest ideas, moves and choices are new ones, ones that set a new precedent. Iâm so thankful because my fans have backed me up on things like switching genres or re-recording all my old music.
âThe thing about these exciting nights and moments and especially this award, theyâre shining a light on the choices I made that worked out, that turned out to be good ideas,â she added. âI want everyone to know â especially young people â that the hundreds and thousands of dumb ideas that I had led me to my good ideas. You have to give yourself permission to fail. I try as hard as I can not to fail because itâs embarrassing, but I give myself permission to.
âMake the right choices that make sense for you and someone one day might thing youâre innovative.â
The Eras Tour continues this weekend at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, where MUNA and GAYLE will open Friday night and beabadoobee and Gracie Adams open Saturday night. Bridgers will join The Eras Tour as a warm-up act starting with the Nashville dates in May.
Ready for the 2023 iHeartRadio Music Awards? The March 27 event will see a whole host of celebrities and musicians at Los Angelesâ Dolby Theatre, attending as performers and making special appearances.
The 2023 iHeartRadio Music Awards will include nine performances across a variety of genres, including a set from Lenny Kravitz â who doubles as the host for the ceremony â Kelly Clarkson, Keith Urban, Pat Benatar & Neil Giraldo, Latto, Muni Long, Cody Johnson and Coldplay, who will appear at the event live from its Music of the Spheres World Tour stop in Brazil.

Taylor Swift is set to receive the 2023 iHeartRadio Innovator Award at the 2023 iHeartRadio Music Awards, which will air live from Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles on Monday, March 27. Previous recipients of the Innovator Award are Pharrell Williams, Justin Timberlake, U2, Bruno Mars, Chance the Rapper and Alicia Keys.
In addition to her musical accomplishments, iHeart notes in a statement that Swift is âan advocate for womenâs rights and the LGBTQ+ community, using her music and platform to inspire young people to use their voting power.â
iHeart also notes that Swiftâs smash âAnti-Hero,â which topped the Billboard Hot 100 for eight weeks from November into January, âis currently the most played song across iHeartRadio.â
P!nk will receive the 2023 iHeartRadio Icon Award, honoring âher impact on pop culture, longevity and continued relevance as a touring and radio force with a loyal fan base worldwide.â Previous recipients are Bon Jovi, Elton John and Jennifer Lopez.
Swift and P!nk, of course, have both received enough awards to fill a warehouse. Both are multiple Grammy winners (12 for Swift, three for P!nk). Both have received Billboardâs Woman of the Year honor (Swift has received it twice). Both have received top honorary awards at the Brit Awards.
P!nk will also perform on the show, as will Kelly Clarkson, Keith Urban, Pat Benatar & Neil Giraldo, Muni Long, Cody Johnson and Coldplay (the latter performing live from Brazil).
These bookings are considered a boon for relative newcomers Long and Johnson as they strive to build on their 2022 breakthroughs. Both landed their first top 20 hits on the Hot 100 last year, with âHrs and Hrsâ and ââTil You Canât,â respectively.
Clarksonâs performance on the iHearts is somewhat surprising, because her focus in the past few years has been on her hugely successful daytime talk show.
Benatar and Giraldo are 2022 inductees into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, which John Sykes also oversees. (Sykes, the president of entertainment enterprises for iHeartMedia, is also the chairman of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Foundation.)
Now in its 10th year, the iHeartRadio Music Awards will celebrate the most-played artists and songs on iHeartRadio stations and the iHeartRadio app throughout 2022,
Fan voting will determine this yearâs best lyrics, best music video, best fan army, the social star award, favorite tour photographer, TikTok bop of the year, favorite documentary, favorite tour style, favorite residency and favorite use of a sample.
Social voting will close on March 20 at 11:59 p.m. PT for all categories. Fans can vote on Twitter using the appropriate category and nominee hashtags or by visiting iHeartRadio.com/awards.
Additional categories include label of the year and individual winners for album of the year in various genres, including pop, country, alternative, rock, dance, hip-hop, R&B, Latin and regional Mexican formats.
Executive producers for the iHeartRadio Music Awards are Joel Gallen, for Tenth Planet; and Sykes, Tom Poleman and Bart Peters, for iHeartMedia.
Ahead of the event, fans can tune in to the live red carpet pre-show. For breaking news and exclusive iHeartRadio Music Awards content, visit iHeartRadio.com/awards.
The event will air live from Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles, Monday, March 27 (8:00-10:00 p.m. ET live / PT tape-delayed) on FOX. The event also will be heard on iHeartMedia radio stations nationwide and on the iHeartRadio app.
Jack Harlow is the only artist with two nominations for song of the year at the 2023 iHeartRadio Music Awards. Harlow is nominated for his solo smash âFirst Classâ and for âIndustry Baby,â his smash collab with Lil Nas X.
Lizzo, who won the 2020 iHeart Award for song of the year for âTruth Hurts,â is nominated in that category again this year for âAbout Damn Time.â Taylor Swift, who won the 2015 iHeart in that category for âShake It Off,â is also nominated for âAnti-Hero.â The other nominees in the category are Harry Stylesâ âAs It Was,â Lattoâs âBig Energy,â Imagine Dragonsâ âEnemy,â Justin Bieberâs âGhost,â Glass Animalsâ âHeat Wavesâ and Doja Catâs âWoman.â
The iHearts are joining the growing trend of doing away with gendered categories. Instead of presenting female and male artist of the year, as they have since they began in 2014, this year the iHearts will present one gender-neutral top category â artist of the year. There are five female and five male nominees: BeyoncĂ©, Doja Cat, Drake, Dua Lipa, Styles, Harlow, Bieber, Lizzo, Swift and The Weeknd.
Silk Sonic, who won best duo/group of the year last year, are back to defend their title. The other nominees are AJR, Black Eyed Peas, Blackpink, Glass Animals, Imagine Dragon, MÄneskin, OneRepublic, Parmalee and Red Hot Chili Peppers.
The 2023 iHeartRadio Music Awards will air live from Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles on Monday, March 27 (8-10 p.m. ET live / PT tape-delayed) on Fox. The event, now in its 10th year, also will be heard on iHeartMedia radio stations nationwide and on the iHeartRadio app.
âThis is the one awards show that shares the hard-earned journeys to the top of the biggest artists and songs of the year with fans,â John Sykes, president of entertainment enterprises for iHeartMedia, said in a statement. âItâs not a competition, rather a celebration of âbest in classâ and viewers across America can watch it live on FOX.â
âItâs been a great year for music with so many inspiring hits, we canât wait to celebrate these artists and songs at the 2023 iHeartRadio Music Awards,â Tom Poleman, president and chief programming officer for iHeartMedia said in a statement. âOur annual awards show is one of the best in the industry at celebrating the power of music. This yearâs show will once again entertain fans with incredible performances and special collaborations, it will be the yearâs must-see event.â
The 2023 iHeartRadio Music Awards will again give iHeartRadio listeners the opportunity to decide winners in several categories. Fan voting will determine this yearâs best lyrics, best music video, best fan army, the social star award, favorite tour photographer, tiktok bop of the year, favorite documentary, favorite tour style, favorite residency and favorite use of a sample.
Social voting begins Wednesday (Jan. 11) and will close March 20 at 11:59 p.m. PT for all categories. Fans can vote on Twitter using the appropriate category and nominee hashtags or by visiting iHeartRadio.com/awards.
Producer of the year and songwriter of the year nominees will be announced at a later date. Additional categories include label of the year and individual winners for album of the year in musicâs biggest genres, including pop, country, alternative, rock, dance, hip-hop, R&B, Latin and regional Mexican formats.
Tickets go on sale to the general public on Wednesday, Feb. 15, at noon ET on Ticketmaster.com.Â
