Sarah Jessica Parker has been named the 2026 Carol Burnett Award honoree, recognizing her contributions to the television industry both in front of and behind the camera.
As previously announced, Dame Helen Mirren will receive the Cecil B. DeMille Award, the equivalent award recognizing contributions in film. Both awards will be presented on the new annual primetime special Golden Eve, airing on Thursday, Jan. 8, at 8 p.m. ET/PT on CBS and streaming on Paramount+. The special will air three days before the 83rd annual Golden Globes, which is set to air live on Sunday, Jan. 11.
This marks the first time that women have claimed both awards in the six years that both have been presented. The Carol Burnett Award, created in 2019 and initially awarded to its namesake, has since been presented to Ellen DeGeneres, Norman Lear, Ryan Murphy and Ted Danson.
“Sarah Jessica Parker’s career embodies the very spirit of the Carol Burnett Award,” Helen Hoehne, president, Golden Globes, said in a statement. “Her trailblazing impact on television and her dedication to storytelling across stage and screen have left an indelible mark on popular culture. We are honored to celebrate her extraordinary contributions to entertainment.”
Parker, 60, is best known as the star and producer of HBO’s iconic Sex and the City, which ran for six seasons on HBO and spawned two feature films and the TV sequel And Just Like That. The initial series brought Parker six Golden Globes (four as an actor, two as a producer), two Primetime Emmys (one as an actor, one as a producer) and three Screen Actors Guild Awards (two as part of an ensemble, one solo)
Beyond her defining television achievements, Parker’s career spans film, stage and production. Her filmography includes Hocus Pocus and Hocus Pocus 2, The Family Stone, Failure to Launch, The First Wives Club, Ed Wood and Mars Attacks!
Following the success of last year’s inaugural Golden Gala honoring DeMille Award recipient Viola Davis and Burnett Award recipient Ted Danson, the 2026 edition evolves into Golden Eve, which promises “an unprecedented look at the honorees’ legacy while celebrating their body of work with personal stories, unforgettable Golden Globes moments, curated career retrospectives, and special presenters.”
Golden Eve will air as a marquee event during Golden Week, a weeklong Golden Globes-branded experience across Paramount platforms as well as celebratory kick-off events ahead of the 83rd annual Golden Globes, which is set to air live on Sunday, Jan. 11. Comedian Nikki Glaser is set to host the show for the second year in a row.

Actress and producer Dame Helen Mirren has been named the 2026 Cecil B. DeMille Award recipient. The award will be presented on the new annual primetime special Golden Eve, airing Thursday, Jan. 8, at 8 p.m. ET/PT on CBS and streaming on Paramount+.
The special will also honor the recipient of the 2026 Carol Burnett Award, who has yet to be named.
The Golden Eve special will feature curated career retrospectives, never-before-seen footage, and in-depth conversations with the honorees. It will air during what the Golden Globes organization is calling Golden Week, a weeklong experience across Paramount platforms as well as celebratory kick-off events ahead of the 83rd annual Golden Globes. That show, hosted by comedian and actress Nikki Glaser, is set to air live on Sunday, Jan. 11.
“Helen Mirren is a force of nature and her career is nothing short of extraordinary,” Helen Hoehne, president, Golden Globes, said in a statement. “Her transcendent performances and commitment to her craft continue to inspire generations of artists and audiences alike.”
Mirren’s accolades include three Golden Globes, an Academy Award, five Emmy Awards, a Tony Award, a BAFTA Film Award, three BAFTA Television Awards, and a Laurence Olivier Award. She has also received the BAFTA Fellowship, Honorary Golden Bear, and the Screen Actors Guild Life Achievement Award. Mirren was made a Dame Commander of the Order of the British Empire (DBE) by Queen Elizabeth II in 2003.
Mirren will become the first British recipient of the Cecil B. DeMille Award since Anthony Hopkins in 2006. Other recipients who were born in Britain are Alfred Hitchcock (1972), Laurence Olivier (1983), Elizabeth Taylor (1985), Audrey Hepburn (1990) and Sean Connery (1996).
First created in 1952 and honoring the eponymous director, the Cecil B. DeMille Award has been bestowed upon 69 honorees. The Carol Burnett Award, created in 2019 and initially awarded to its namesake, is presented to an honoree who has made outstanding contributions to television on or off screen.

Eligibility rules include the newly added best podcast award outlining how the top 25 podcasts will qualify with a total of six final nominations for the category. Luminate will determine qualifying podcasts.

Despite her success at celebrity roasts and comedy specials, comedian Nikki Glaser revealed at the TIME100 Summit on Wednesday (April 23) that there was one joke she told during the 2025 Golden Globes on Jan. 5 that she worried went too far.
“I didn’t say anything that was like, calling anyone ugly or fat,” she told TIME deputy editor Kelly Conniff in New York City. “I think I get a reputation of being mean because of the roasts. I’m hired to be mean for those. [At] the Golden Globes, it’s not my job to ruin their night.”
However, she conceded she was initially concerned enough about a quip aimed at Selena Gomez’s fiancé, producer Benny Blanco, that she ended up texting Blanco to get his permission to go ahead with the line.

“I said that ‘Selena Gomez is here because of Emilia Pérez and Benny Blanco is here because of the genie who granted him that wish.’ And looking back, I’m like, that could [seem] mean, because everyone’s like, ‘He’s not attractive enough for her,’” she said. “For me, I’ve never looked at them and actually thought that. I feel like she won too. I think he’s really cool. So, because that joke didn’t actually come from a mean place, I felt like it was OK for me to say.”
Still, she was concerned enough about it that she texted him. “I got his number. I said ‘You don’t know me, but I’m hosting this thing, and I hear you’re going to be there. Can I say that you’re there because a genie granted you a wish?’ He was like, ‘That’s hilarious; let me run it by Selena.’ We were all just waiting in the writers’ room. He said ‘Selena thinks it’s great.’ So they gave me permission. It was actually Jimmy Kimmel who told me if you’re worried about a joke and how it’s going to go over, just ask them.”
The fact that Glaser reached out to Blanco to get his permission to tell a borderline-mean joke shows her character. And the fact that Blanco gave her the go-ahead to tell a joke at his expense shows his.
Gomez was nominated for three awards at this year’s Golden Globes: best supporting actress, motion picture for Emilia Pérez as well as two awards (acting and executive producing) for Only Murders in the Building. She didn’t go home with a Globe, but she went home with something better – a partner who is secure in himself and has a good sense of humor.
Glaser was the first woman to host the Globes solo and has already been hired to lead the awards show again in 2026.
At the TIME event, she said that she sensed that the audience this year was unsure of how hard she was going to go in her humor. “When I first walked out, I knew the energy was like ‘We don’t know what she’s going to do. We’ve seen her do the Tom Brady roast most recently’ – that’s kind of where I popped for most people. In retrospect, I looked back at how terrified they all looked because they were like, ‘She’s going to roast us! She’s going to be just as mean as she was to Tom Brady.’ So, I heard from a lot of them that they were really, really scared. I wish I would have known that. I would have done something to defuse that a little bit.
“Next time is going to be a lot more fun because I think they know the tone that I have now. I go [for jokes], but I’m not going to embarrass you. And if you laugh, I’m only going to make you look good because you’re going to look so relatable laughing. It’s one of the best ways for an untouchable kind of celebrity on a pedestal to look normal.”

The wildfires that have been devouring multiple neighborhoods in the greater Los Angeles area for the last five days have caused so much misery and heartbreak for so many that it may seem trifling to point out the impact they have had on awards season. But it’s not. Awards shows aren’t just about privileged celebrities, but also about the thousands of everyday people who make their livings in support roles — caterers, bartenders, limo drivers, hairstylists, make-up artists and many more.
The latest show to be affected by the fires is the Producers Guild of America Awards. The nominations were set to be announced on Sunday (Jan. 12) at noon PT, but have been pushed to next week. “Out of care and concern for those being affected by the fires, we will be holding the announcement of the PGA award nominees until next week,” the guild said in a statement on Sunday.
The big question is whether the Grammys will go forward on Feb. 2, which is just three weeks away. Billboard has reached out to the Recording Academy; an answer is expected this week.

If the show is postponed, this will be the third time in the past five years that Music’s Biggest Night has been pushed back due to outside events. The 2021 and 2022 shows were both postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The 2021 show was bumped from Jan. 31 to March 14. The 2022 ceremony was pushed all the way from Jan. 31 to April 3.
The Oscars are set for March 2, which gives the Motion Picture Academy and the show’s producers more breathing room. The fires have already impacted the Oscars voting schedule. Academy CEO Bill Kramer wrote a letter to all Academy members on Wednesday (Jan. 8), one day after the first fires exploded.
“Given the fire situation, we want to share some updates regarding an extension to the Oscars nominations voting window… Nominations voting for the 97th Oscars opened this morning at 9 a.m. PT. We will be extending the voting window by two days to give members more time to cast their ballots. Voting will now close on Tuesday, January 14 at 5 p.m. PT. As such, our Oscars Nominations Announcement will move from Friday, January 17 to Sunday, January 19.”
Other shows have also been impacted. The Critics Choice Awards, which were set to air live on E! tonight, were postponed to Jan. 26. (It is unknown if they will be able to proceed on that date.) The show was to be held at Barker Hangar in Santa Monica, Calif., which is located just a few miles from Pacific Palisades, where the fires originated.
In retrospect, the Golden Globes, held one week ago at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Beverly Hills, California, were extremely lucky. The show concluded just 38 hours before L.A.’s wind and fire nightmare began.
The 2025 Golden Globe Awards on CBS on Sunday (Jan. 5) averaged 10.1 million viewers, based on VideoAmp overnight data, despite strong competition on NBC – an NFL game between the Minnesota Vikings and the Detroit Lions. The Golden Globes, hosted for the first time by Nikki Glaser, were held at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Beverly Hills, Calif.
The live-streaming audience was up 9% from last year on Paramount+ and the CBS App, according to CBS.
The 2025 Golden Globes was the most social Golden Globes show ever, up +124% year-over-year according to Social Content Ratings and Quid Monitor. The program drove 40 million social interactions on show night.
This was the show’s second year on CBS, with streaming on Paramount+. The show aired on NBC for all but two years from 1996 to 2023. The show didn’t air in 2008 due to a strike by the Writers Guild of America or in 2022, when the organization was regrouping following heavy criticism of its voting body and ethics.
Emilia Pérez was the biggest winner on the film side, with four awards: best motion picture, musical or comedy; best motion picture – non-English language; best original song – motion picture for “El Mal” (co-written by Clément Ducol, Camille and Jacques Audiard); and best performance by a female actor in a supporting role in any motion picture for Zoe Saldaña.
Shōgun was the biggest winner on the TV side, with four awards: best television series – drama, plus acting awards for Anna Sawai, Hiroyuki Sanada and Tadanobu Asano.
Anora was the night’s biggest shutout on the film side; it went 0-5 for the night. Only Murders in the Building was the biggest shutout on the TV side; it went 0-4 for the night.
Wicked won the Golden Globe for cinematic and box office achievement.
All of the winners were present to receive their awards except Jeremy Allen White, the star of The Bear, who won for best performance by a male actor in a television series – musical or comedy.
At a ceremony on Friday, EGOT recipient Viola Davis received the Cecil B. DeMille Award, a career honor for film work. Ted Danson won the Carol Burnett Award, the equivalent award for work in television. The awards were briefly mentioned on the telecast, but were not given the extended airtime they were afforded in the past.
Multi-Emmy-winning producing duo Glenn Weiss and Ricky Kirshner of White Cherry Entertainment served as executive producers and showrunners for the 82nd Golden Globes.
