The Queen of Disco’s voice shines as she delivers the ballad’s powerful message, singing, “You can sit it out, wait until you see your chance/ Try your luck, you can dare to dance/ Dream away your life and never live your dream/ Or breathe every breath you get and run with it.”

Meanwhile, the music video features Gad accompanying Summer’s vocals on the piano as 13-year-old dancer London! performs an emotional lyrical routine over a montage of archival footage of the late “MacArthur Park” dance floor diva, who passed away in 2012 at the age of 63.

Gad and Summer originally worked on the song for the disco legend’s final studio album, 2008’s Crayons, which also earned the pair a No. 1 hit on Billboard’s Dance Club Songs chart with fourth single “Fame (The Game).”

Though “Run” ultimately didn’t make the cut for Crayons‘ final tracklist, Gad is now releasing the ballad as special part of his ongoing Piano Diaries project, reimagining some of the greatest hits in his catalog with new artists.

“Donna was funny, such a warm spirit — we instantly connected,” Gad tells Billboard. “I was a little nervous at first working with such an icon, but unlike Madonna, who enjoyed testing my character for several days before letting me into her world, Donna opened up to me immediately as I showed her my first ideas. She loved to crack jokes and had such an immediate sense of humor. She enjoyed big hugs and on the first day it felt like she had already decided that I was part of her family.”

The songwriter behind hits like John Legend’s “All of Me” and Beyoncé’s “If I Were a Boy” went on to recall, “Donna was not only an amazing singer who was totally in charge of her voice, much like Beyoncé when I worked with her, [she] was also a great songwriter, intuitively finding words that are honest, authentic and have emotion.”

On Thursday (June 12) evening in New York City, The Beach Boys legend Mike Love was inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame.
The massive honor for the veteran singer-songwriter came in the wake of huge loss to fans of the Beach Boys: just one day prior to the induction ceremony, news broke that Brian Wilson, one-time leader of the peerless pop-rock group, had died at 82. Wilson and Love were not just bandmates, but co-writers on some of the biggest Billboard Hot 100 hits of the ‘60s – not to mention cousins.

So when John Stamos – the Full House alum who has been performing with his beloved Beach Boys for four decades now – took the stage to introduce Love, he took a pause to mention the loss. “I’d like to take a moment and acknowledge the heartbreaking loss of Brian Wilson,” said Stamos. “A genius whose melodies shaped millions of dreams, including those in this room.”

Of Love, Stamos noted that the new inductee was the main man behind many of the Beach Boys’ most recognizable hooks, and said his induction was “long overdue.”

Love, wearing a dapper blue blazer and Beach Boys call cap, paid tribute to his departed co-writer and fellow Beach Boy during his acceptance speech, too.

“Gratitude is the main emotion I feel,” Love told the Songwriters Hall of Fame audience. After thanking his wife, children, band and crew, Love added, “I especially want to thank my cousin, Brian Wilson. I believe he’s here with us.

“He’s my first cousin but brother in music together,” Love continued, noting that their partnership “set the stage for some of the most successful collaborations all time.”

“I do feel his presence,” Love said. Sharing “gratitude, love and peace” with the crowd, he added, “I pray that through music, art and kindness, the world heals and love prevails.”

After that, Love sauntered over to the mic to perform (with Stamos on guitar!) a number of his best-loved co-writes, smash hits for the Beach Boys such as “Good Vibrations,” “Kokomo” and “I Get Around.” Needless to say, damn near the entire room was on its feet, singing along.

To honor the life of Beach Boys mastermind Brian Wilson, who died Wednesday (June 11) at age 82, CBS will re-air A Grammy Salute to the Beach Boys on Sunday from 9-11 p.m. ET/PT.
The live concert special was taped at Dolby Theatre in Hollywood on Feb. 8, 2023, three days after the 65th annual Grammy Awards were held in Los Angeles. The special originally aired on April 9, 2023. It was No. 1 in its time period with 5.18 million viewers and was the night’s No. 2 primetime broadcast in viewers. (The night’s champ was its lead-in, the venerable 60 Minutes, with 6.43 million viewers.) The two-hour program had the largest audience for a Grammy Salute special since A Grammy Salute to Prince, which aired on April 21, 2020.

Alex Warren surprised fans by revealing the high-profile guest feature for his upcoming single “On My Mind.”
The TikTok sensation took to the platform that first made him famous to tease the song, writing, “I promise you won’t guess who’s featuring on this…” over a video of himself mouthing along to his own lyrics.

“But right now, I just need you to know/ Maybe the way the clouds are painted/ A perfect shade of yellow, all across the sky,” Warren lip-syncs as none other than ROSÉ hesitantly peeks into the frame, only revealing a sliver of her face to the camera before silently disappearing again. (Fans listening closely can also hear the BLACKPINK idol’s crystalline vocals mixing with Warren’s gruff timbre in the clip.)

ROSÉ slyly hyped up the genre-busting collaboration as well, winkingly deadpanning in the comments section, “can somebody tell me who that is.”

While Warren has yet to publicly set a release date for “On My Mind,” he also revealed in the post’s caption that the single may be arriving sooner than many fans might expect, writing, “would be CRAZY if we drop it this month…”

Whenever the forthcoming duet does arrive, it will follow in the wake of “Bloodline,” Warren’s recent collaboration with Jelly Roll, which debuted at No. 32 on the Billboard Hot 100 last week (chart dated June 7, 2025). The singer’s breakout hit “Ordinary” reached the summit of the all-genre tally the same week “Bloodline” dropped, and currently remains at No. 1 for its second consecutive week.

All three songs are expected to be included on Warren’s recently announced LP You’ll Be Alright, Kid. The LP, which will add 10 new tracks to his 2024 project You’ll Be Alright, Kid (Chapter 1), is set to be released July 18 via Atlantic Records.

Meanwhile, ROSÉ just commemorated the six-month anniversary of her debut studio album, Rosie, which set the record as the highest-charting album by a female K-pop artist in Billboard history upon its December 2024 release and featured global smash “APT.” with Bruno Mars and follow-up singles “Number One Girl” and “Toxic Till the End.”

The controversial cover of Sabrina Carpenter‘s new album Man’s Best Friend has gotten people talking, including the women on The View.
On Thursday (June 12), the ladies shared their takes on whether the artwork — which features the pop star down on all fours, pawing at a man who holds a fistful of her hair — is subversively feminist or just plain sexist. For Alyssa Farah Griffin, it’s the former.

“Oh, boo-hoo,” she began of the criticism surrounding Carpenter’s visual. “If you listen to her music, she’s a feminist. It’s all about women’s empowerment. Her newest single, ‘Manchild,’ is literally just about men who are useless who refuse to grow up.

“It reminds me of Britney Spears in the ’90s … are we still doing that?” Griffin added.

Sunny Hostin, on the other hand, isn’t convinced. “I’ll admit, I don’t know who she is,” she said of Carpenter. “I had never heard of her music. I don’t know anything about her, but I don’t know. I think imagery is important, and even if her lyrics are strong and she’s a feminist, I think about young girls seeing that who may not understand.”

The women’s conversation echoes a much broader discussion happening online about the Man’s Best Friend cover, which Carpenter unveiled Wednesday while announcing that the new LP would drop Aug. 29. The two-time Grammy winner has long had a reputation for being cheeky and a little risqué in her lyrics and performances, from her NSFW “Nonsense” outros to the striking of various sex positions while performing the explicit track “Juno” on her Short n’ Sweet Tour.

But while the Internet is torn over whether Carpenter’s submissive position on the Man’s Best Friend cover is funny or degrading, Whoopi Goldberg was more concerned with something else. “I would’ve bit him,” the actress said of the singer’s pose on The View. “If you’re down there, you bite.”

As for the Girl Meets World alum, Carpenter has her own thoughts on leaning into her sexuality through her pop persona. “It’s always so funny to me when people complain,” she told Rolling Stone in a recent cover story. “They’re like, ‘All she does is sing about this.’ But those are the songs that you’ve made popular. Clearly you love sex. You’re obsessed with it.”

Real recognizes real. According to Hayley Williams of Paramore, rising rap star Doechii is as real as it gets.
In a touching tribute penned for Them, the “Ain’t It Fun” singer offered plenty of praise for the “Denial Is a River” rapper, sharing that she’s been closely watching her career since her performance at the 2022 BET Awards. “Watching her on that stage, I had the same feeling I did the first time I saw Missy Elliott on MTV as a kid,” Williams said. “It was raw, bold, unmistakable talent — the kind that doesn’t wait for permission. She came out swinging, and I remember thinking, Oh, she’s taking it. This is hers.“

Prior to Williams’ discovery of Doechii, the rapper had already paid tribute to Paramore through a sample of the band’s hit ballad “The Only Exception” on her 2020 single “Yucky Blucky Fruitcake.” Williams pointed out in her tribute that she “hadn’t even caught” the interpolation when she first saw Doechii’s performance.

The singer went on to praise Doechii’s self-assured artistry, and even added that she still aspires to that level of confidence more than 20 years into her career as a performer. “People sometimes assume because of how I am onstage, that I carry that same confidence. But the truth is, that kind of boldness is something I still have to work to access,” she said. “With Doechii, though, that energy feels inherent. When I listen to her, I feel it — like it transfers through the speakers. And I think a lot of her listeners feel the same way.”

Williams added that the rapper’s openness about her sexuality is just another example of how Doechii is doing music stardom on her own terms. “It’s powerful to watch an artist like her speak openly about identity in the public eye,” she said. “We need that. We need women who are unapologetic about who they are, who they love, what they believe.”

Closing her tribute, Williams thanked Doechii for giving performers everywhere — including herself — something to aspire to. “Watching someone emerge with that kind of confidence, that kind of clarity, is a gift,” she said. “She reminds me — and probably a lot of people — that moving through the world with certainty doesn’t mean you stop learning or growing. It just means you know your worth as you go. And that, to me, is something to look up to.”

Doechii is coming off yet another big win, this time at the 2025 BET Awards, where she took home the trophy for best female hip hop artist. During her speech at the ceremony, Doechii called out President Donald Trump activating the National Guard in response to the ongoing Los Angeles protests around ICE raids in the city.

“I want y’all to consider what kind of government it appears to be when every time we exercise our democratic right to protest, the military is deployed against us. What type of government is that?” she asked the crowd. “People are being swept up and torn from their families, and I feel it’s my responsibility as an artist to use this moment to speak up for all oppressed people.”
