‘Wanna Party With Cardi?’: Inside Cardi B’s Revolve + Fwrd-Assisted 2024 Met Gala After Party

Almost seven years after she first rapped the proposition in her 2017 Billboard Hot 100 hit “Bartier Cardi” (No. 14, with 21 Savage), Billboard has the inside on scoop on what it’s really like to party with Cardi B.

Hours after stunning the Met Gala‘s green carpet with a massive black ball gown — accented with emerald jewelry and a gagged of tuxedo-clad red carpet assistants, no less — Cardi B headed downtown to Silencio to host her own afterparty, in partnership with Revolve + Fwrd. Led by creative director Kendall Jenner, Fwrd is an online luxury fashion destination that operates under Revolve Group, an e-commerce fashion retailer.

Known for her dramatic trains, Cardi’s Met Gala green carpet look played smartly on the dark undertones of the event’s “Garden of Time” dress code. This year, the Costume Institute celebrated their spring exhibition, “Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion” with a charity ball co-hosted by Emmy winner Zendaya, Billboard 200 chart-toppers Bad Bunny and Jennifer Lopez and BAFTA nominee Chris Hemsworth. For her afterparty ensemble, Cardi opted for a red, body-sculpting number that evoked the classic sensuality of Jessica Rabbit, billowing retro curls and all.

The “WAP” rapper’s red-hot corset dress paired well with the décor for the night; red lights illuminated the room with simple decals announcing her presence adorning the otherwise bare walls. While the dancefloor remained packed thanks to the efforts of DJ Nicky Rizz and DJ SpinKing, the night’s biggest stars remained in various sections around the venue. Among those in attendance were Grammy winner Leon Thomas III, celebrity hairstylist Chris Appleton, Hennessy Carolina, Kamari Bonds from Netflix’s Twentysomethings: Austin and, of course, hip-hop power couple Offset and Cardi B.

Fresh off wrapping his first headlining U.S. tour — which he launched in support of 2023’s Set It Off LP — Offset donned distressed denim and a bead-embellished gray shirt, opting for a more casual vibe to complement his wife’s exuberant glamour. Hennessy Carolina, Cardi’s sister, wore a stunning hooded black gown that featured perhaps the night’s most daring neckline.

With an open bar and hors d’oeuvres ranging from caviar-topped potato chips to crispy french fries, Cardi definitely threw quite the function. Although she did not treat the crowd to her trademark quips or any remarks at all — in fairness, the intense camera flash whenever she emerged was certainly overwhelming — the DJs kept the energy high with sets that centered on the rich R&B and hip-hop legacies of New York City, Cardi B’s hometown. Of course, several of her Hot 100 hits got spun, including 2017’s “No Limit” (No. 4, with G-Eazy & A$AP Rocky), 2019’s Grammy-nominated “Clout” (No. 39, with Offset), 2022’s “Shake It” (No. 51, with Kay Flock, Dougie B & Bory300), and 2023’s “Put It On Da Floor Again” (No. 13, with Latto) and “Bongos” (No. 14, with Megan Thee Stallion).

Surprisingly, both DJs appeared to have shied away from the Kendrick Lamar and Drake diss tracks that have dominated both streaming and cultural conversations for the past few weeks. For what it’s worth, the songs that really got Cardi moving weren’t a part of that battle or even her own catalog; her favorite tracks of the night included Master KG, Nomcebo Zikode & Burna Boy‘s “Jerusalema,” A$AP Ferg‘s “Work,” Bobby Shmurda‘s “Hot N—a,” and Fivio Foreign‘s “Big Drip.” You can take the girl out of NYC, but you can’t take NYC out of the girl!

Monday night’s flashy bash continues a busy year for Cardi B. She’s released several singles in anticipation for the launch of her sophomore album campaign, including her Missy Elliott-nodding “Like What (Freestyle)” (No. 38), “Enough (Miami)” (No. 9) and “Puntería” (No. 72, with Shakira).

The verdict is in: ain’t no party like a Cardi B party!

Doja Cat Hits 2024 Met Gala in Dripping-Wet Dress

Doja Cat was dripping in style on the 2024 Met Gala red carpet, as she hit fashion‘s biggest night in a drenched floor-length T-shirt dress.

The Billboard Hot 100 chart-topper kept the wet look going with her makeup, with sparkly black mascara dripping artfully down her cheeks as if she’d soaked the dress in her own tears. Doja posed on the sprawling Met red carpet with one arm across her chest and one arm strategically pulling up the skirt of her dress, as the water rendered the dress transparent.

Before Doja Cat was photographed on the red carpet, she was spotted exiting the Mark Hotel wearing a towel wrapped around her head and body with strappy heels and a diamond necklace. But when she arrived at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, her wet look was fully realized, including her tear-soaked makeup. (You can see makeup artist Pat McGrath’s magic come to life here.)

The T-shirt dress was designed by VETEMENTS creative director Guram Gvasalia, with whom Doja walked the red carpet on Monday.

In an interview with Entertainment Tonight on the red carpet, Doja explained how her look fit into the night’s “The Garden of Time” theme.

“I know that people are going to do flowers, but my flower of choice is the most-used flower — and it’s cotton,” she said. “I wanted to do a white T-shirt, also because a white T-shirt is timeless. And it felt very poetic to choose this. I knew it wasn’t going to blend in too much, and I don’t really like to blend in.”

Lizzo Is a Flower in Bloom on the 2024 Met Gala Red Carpet

Lizzo walked through the “Garden of Time” upon stepping onto the Met Gala red carpet on Monday night (May 6).

The “Good as Hell” star wore a skin-toned corseted gown designed by Paris-based label Weinsanto, complete with a headpiece that surrounded her face and extended out in a flower shape. The outfit perfectly fits the event’s dress code, “The Garden of Time,” which is inspired by a 1962 J.G. Ballard short story of the same name.

It’s been a tumultuous year for Lizzo, who shared a message to Instagram signed, in all-caps, “I QUIT,” in March. “I’m getting tired of putting up with being dragged by everyone in my life and on the Internet,” read the note. “All I want is to make music and make people happy and help the world be a little better than how I found it. But I’m starting to feel like the world doesn’t want me in it.”

Though the Grammy winner never specified which instances of “being dragged” she was referring to, it’s true that she’s been the subject of much scrutiny in recent months. In August last year, three of her former tour dancers filed a harassment lawsuit against her, alleging sexual misconduct and hostile work conditions.

A few days later, Lizzo cleared things up for good. “I just need to clarify — when I say I quit, I mean, I quit giving any negative energy attention,” she said. “What I’m not gonna quit is the joy of my life, which is making music, which is connecting with people.”

Shakira Is a Vision in Red at 2024 Met Gala

Shakira dazzled at her Met Gala debut in a simple-yet-stunning red column dress with a slit that turned heads. For the wow factor: A dramatic long cape made with almost 100 meters of fabric that resembled a rose.

The sleek outfit with geometric cutouts was created by Carolina Herrera’s creative director Wes Gordon, who spent the past few months working with the Colombian superstar on the look, according to Vogue.

“It’s really about making Shakira feel like the best version of Shakira,” the designer told the fashion magazine. “She was incredibly focused on the tiny details of the cutouts — where things are hitting, as well as the neckline,” he added. “It’s amazing to work and do fittings with someone who’s a physical performer, because her sensitivity to movement and body awareness is really extraordinary.”

Shakira’s Monday (May 6) debut at the Met Gala comes less than three weeks after she announced the first leg of her Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran World Tour. Named after her latest album, the trek — her first since 2018’s El Dorado — will start Nov. 2 in Palm Desert, California, and include stops in Los Angeles, Miami, New York and Chicago, among other North American cities.

This year’s gala exhibit theme, Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion, is set to feature 250 items from the Costume Institute’s permanent collection. The works will be displayed at New York City’s Metropolitan Museum of Art in new ways, including elements such as video animation, CGI, AI and more.

The 2024 Met Gala was co-hosted by Bad Bunny, Jennifer Lopez, Zendaya and Chris Hemsworth. Other Latin Music stars in attendance were Rosalía, Omar Apollo, Rauw Alejandro, Cardi B and Camila Cabello.

The “Young and Beautiful” star walked the red carpet in a custom beige gown Alexander McQueen’s Seán McGirr, and the one-shoulder dress was lined with what appears to be branches down the entire bodice. The branches stretched into a headpiece with a beige mesh veil draped across her face. She accessorized the outfit by holding a single red rose.

The event’s dress code is “The Garden of Time,” inspired by a 1962 J.G. Ballard short story of the same name.

This year’s theme, Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion, is set to feature 250 items from the Costume Institute’s permanent collection, according to an Instagram post announcing the theme back in November. “From a 17th century English Elizabethan-era bodice and Christian Dior’s famous Junon and Venus ballgowns, to 21st century acquisitions by designers including Phillip Lim, Stella McCartney, and Conner Ives, the core exhibit will span 400 years of history,” the caption reads. LDR hung around the Indio Valley after Coachella to make two unannounced appearances at the Stagecoach Festival, last weekend. While there, she joined Paul Cauthen on stage for a moving rendition of “Unchained Melody,” the classic ballad that became an iconic hit for the Righteous Brothers in 1965.

Del Rey, who is prepping a country album called Lassosang “Unchained Melody” last year for NBC holiday special celebrating the legacy of Elvis Presley, Christmas at Graceland and Cauthen previously covered the song with masked country crooner Orville Peck, with the pair calling themselves The Unrighteous Brothers.

BLACKPINK’s Jennie Kim Is a Vision in Blue on 2024 Met Gala Red Carpet

Jennie Kim is no stranger to a standout red carpet look, and the BLACKPINK superstar continued the trend at the 2024 Met Gala on Monday night (May 6).

The 28-year-old superstar wore a custom-made Alaïa blue mini-dress with an asymmetrical cut-out across the midriff. The dress also featured a high-neck neckline and long train, which Kim paired with a matching pair of strappy heels. She accessorized the look with a sleek ponytail, a gold belly chain and pearl earrings, which matches the elemental feel of the “Garden of Time” dress code.

Last year, Jennie made her red carpet debut, where she revealed to Vogue the advice her BLACKPINK bandmate Rosé gave her after attending the gala in 2022. “Rosie, she was here last year. She told me just have fun, so that’s the plan for today,” the “SOLO” rapper said.

It’s been an exciting new year for Jennie, who revealed at the end of 2023 that she is launching a new label and company called OA. “Hi, this is Jennie. This year was filled with many accomplishments, and I’m so thankful for all the love I’ve received,” the K-pop singer wrote on her Instagram Story. “I’m also about what’s to come, as I start my solo journey in 2024 with a company that I have established called OA. Please show lots of love for my new start with OA and of course BLACKPINK. Thank you.”

In early December, YG Entertainment announced that the agency renewed its exclusive contract with all four members of BLACKPINK, sending the company’s stock soaring on news that its most successful act would remain with the agency.

Ariana Grande Dazzles in Pearly White Gown at 2024 Met Gala

Ariana Grande has already been in a fairytale mind-set while filming her role as Glinda the Good Witch in the upcoming Wicked films, and on Monday (May 6), she was able to channel that fantastical vibe on the 2024 Met Gala red carpet.

The pop superstar wore a custom gown on the carpet, designed by Loewe creative director Jonathan Anderson, with a sculpted bodice made entirely of mother of pearl and a flowing white skirt, accented with floral eye decorations.

During an interview with La La Anthony on the Vogue livestream, Grande explained the inspiration behind the look and said that mother of pearl happens to be her birthstone, while also relating to her Wicked role.

Trending on Billboard

“I loved the tie-in of the opalescence and little hues of pink and green for Glinda’s bubble and for Wicked,” she said. “Pearls are just made in the most unexpected of ways. You never know what beautiful things you will find in unexpected places.”

When Anthony asked about Wicked — based on the beloved Broadway musical — Grande couldn’t reveal too much ahead of the first part hitting theaters in November, but she did gush about her co-star Cynthia Erivo and her experience on set.

“It was just the most extraordinary, transformative and beautiful experience I’ve ever had in my life,” Grande told Anthony. “I love the project so much more now, and I’ve loved it since i was 10 years old. Just to be able to be a part of its world and find new truths with Cynthia in these women.”

Grande and Erivo were reunited on the Met Gala carpet, where they embodied their two characters, with Grande’s pure-white look contrasting Erivo’s black floral look.

Lea Michele Cradles Baby Bump in Turquoise Gown at 2024 Met Gala

Lea Michele was all smiles at the 2024 Met Gala on Monday (May 6) — especially because she has a baby on board!

The pregnant Glee actress walked onto the green-splashed white carpet at the Metropolitan Museum of Art dressed in a flowing, turquoise Rodarte gown, complete with a white floral strap and a tulle shawl, perfectly capturing the “Garden of Time” dress code. The whimsical dress code is inspired by a 1962 J.G. Ballard short story of the same name. In the photos, she’s seen smiling wide as she cradled her baby bump.

The 37-year-old Broadway star, who is married to businessman Zandy Reich, revealed that she’s pregnant with her second baby back in March. In the pictures, Michele — who is already Mom to 3-year-old son Ever Leo — poses with a silky white shawl draped over her shoulders, cradling her baby bump as it peeks through the fabric. “Mommy, Daddy and Ever are overjoyed,” she captioned the post.

Doja Cat Goes Jewelry Shopping Wearing Only a Loose Bedsheet & Thong in New York City

They say dress for the job you want, not the job you have — and based on that logic, Doja Cat wants to take a nap. The star recently stepped out in New York City for a luxury shopping trip wearing nothing but what appears to be a white bedsheet on her body, save for a teensy black thong underneath.

In photos posted to Doja’s Instagram Sunday (May 5), the musician clutches her remarkably unstained sheet to her bare chest as the fabric trails on the NYC sidewalk behind her, her black thong peeking out to match her pair of dark Louboutin stilettos. Surrounded by umbrella-wielding bodyguards, she enters the Cartier shop on 5th Avenue in Manhattan alongside VETEMENTS creative director Guram Gvasalia.

Gvasalia also posted photos and video from the outing, showing Doja trying on rings, snacking on a lollipop and adjusting her non-dress — onto which a VETEMENTS tag was sewn — to cover her rear-end inside the store. “my ? @dojacat,” the fashion executive wrote in his caption.

Trending on Billboard

The fashion statement might just top Doja’s previous VETEMENTS partnership from last week, for which she wore a crop top and miniskirt made out of clear plastic wrap while grabbing McDonald’s and shopping for sneakers with Gvasalia.

The “Paint the Town Red” artist — who in April month became the first female rapper to headline Coachella — is currently gearing up to embark on the European leg of her Scarlet tour, which she celebrated by stopping by The Tonight Show May 1. While there, she let host Jimmy Fallon try on one of the hair suits her backup dancers will wear on the trek.

“I wanted it to be modeled after hair, that’s the theme,” she explained of the tour. “So it’s going to be a very hairy show.”
