After decades of making wholesome family-friendly comedy movies, Eddie Murphy has finally resurrected one of his most iconic and foul-mouthed characters in Detective Axel Foley for Beverly Hills Cop Axel F.
A few weeks ago it was reported that the legendary comedian would be returning with a fourth installment to the ’80s franchise Beverly Hills Cop, and today we’ve gotten our first trailer for the upcoming film that’s been decades in the making. Starring Eddie Murphy as everyone’s favorite detective from Detroit, the new film brings back other familiar faces from the previous films such as Judge Reinhold and John Ashton.
Though the action-packed trailer doesn’t exactly explain why detective Foley has returned to Los Angeles 30 years after his last stint, the synopsis for the film breaks down why the man has dusted off his Detroit Lions varsity jacket and took the first flight back to LAX.

Detective Axel Foley (Murphy) is back on the beat in Beverly Hills. After his daughter Jane’s (Taylour Paige) life is threatened, she and Foley team up with a new partner (Joseph Gordon-Levitt) and old pals Billy Rosewood (Judge Reinhold) and Taggart (John Ashton) to turn up the heat and uncover a conspiracy.
Should be interesting to see how this one turns out as director Mark Molloy told Tudum “Some of the funniest moments in Axel F are when Eddie’s improvising. For me, a big part of my job was to create the right environment, cast the right people around Eddie to allow him to do what he does best,” Molloy said.
We can’t wait to see this one.

You just know Eddie Murphy’s forthcoming holiday film, Candy Cane Lane, is serious if Raphael Saadiq is on the soundtrack. On Friday (Nov. 24) the renowned artist premiered a new song called “Miracle,” featuring British singer Kelli-Leigh, on Amazon Music.
“The song ‘Miracle’ is about, of course, a miracle,” said Saadiq in a statement. “Once you see the film, you see all these amazing things happening – a little bit of beautiful magic between a family and a mother and father ’Miracle’ just comes on and tells that whole story of how a family works.”
Saadiq and Kelli-Leigh’s soulful vocals and lush instrumentation bring the winter season vibes and make for a smooth groove without sounding like another cheesy holiday song. Saadiq has been busy considering he just wrapped the Just Me & You U.S. Tour with his original group Tony! Toni! Toné!
The Reginald Hudlin-directed Candy Cane Lane stars and Tracee Ellis Ross and is out on December 1 via Prime Video.

It’s been ages since Eddie Murphy has blessed his fans with his foul-mouthed, fan-favorite detective. Axel Foley in a Beverly Hills Cop film. But after almost a cool 30 years, the franchise is set to return with a fourth installment and sho’nuff, the iconic comedian will be returning as the hilarious character.
According to Deadline, Beverly Hills Cop 4 has officially gone into production and Netflix has shared the first images from the set of the film and it features Eddie Murphy in Axel Foley’s classic varsity jacket and jeans fit that he sported in the first few films. Debuting as Axel Foley in Beverly Hills Cop in 1984, Eddie Murphy’s movie career skyrocketed after having made a name for himself on Saturday Night Live and his classic stand-up film, Delirious.
The success of the first film led to two more sequels before the character was retired as Eddie moved on to other films. Now that the man has been slowly reintegrating himself on the movie scene, the legendary comedian is set to resurrect the beloved franchise almost 30 years after it kicked off and we’re all here for it.

Mark Molloy directs the sequel, which also stars Kevin Bacon, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Taylour Paige, along with Judge Reinhold, John Ashton, Paul Reiser and Bronson Pinchot reprising their characters from previous installments.
Will Beall penned the script. Murphy also produces, along with Jerry Bruckheimer and Chad Oman of Jerry Bruckheimer Films. Charisse Hewitt-Webster and Ray Angelic will exec produce the new movie. Melissa Reid of Jerry Bruckheimer Films will co-produce.
The franchise moved from Paramount to Netflix in the winter of 2019 and follows the adventures of Detroit cop Foley, who first appeared in the 1984 smash hit that followed him to Beverly Hills to solve the murder of a friend. The film became one of the year’s biggest hits and solidified Murphy’s movie-star status. It was followed by two sequels, in 1987 and 1994. The first film grossed $234 million at the U.S. box office, making it the highest-grossing domestic release of 1984, and received an Oscar nomination for Best Original Screenplay in 1985.

Beverly Hills Cop 4 is set to hit Netflix sometime in 2024 but don’t be surprised if it drops on December 5, 2024 which would be exactly 30 years after the original hit theaters.

Yes, we’re over the Will Smith slap, but dammit, we can’t be mad at a well-timed joke about it from the GOAT, Eddie Murphy.
Only Eddie Murphy could mention the infamous slap seen worldwide into 2023, and it not be a cringeworthy moment. The legendary stand-up comedian /actor made a joke about the moment Will Smith slapped Chris Rock while delivering his speech after accepting the Cecil B. DeMille Award during Wednesday night’s Golden Globe Awards.
Murphy, the elder statesman in his craft, gave the Hollywood newbies in the building some sound advice to close out his speech.
“I want to let you know that there is a definitive blueprint that you can follow to achieve success, prosperity, longevity, and piece of mind,” Murphy began. “It’s a blueprint, and I’ve followed it my whole career. It’s very simple. There’s three things: Pay your taxes, mind your business, and keep Will Smith’s wife’s name out your f–cking mouth.”

The joke became an instant viral moment on Twitter, with viewers praising Murphy for his knack of knowing when to drop a well-timed joke that no one was expecting.
“Eddie Murphy would be the only person to make a Will Smith joke that was actually funny LOL,” journalist Sylvia Obell wrote in a tweet.
But if you think that was some shade towards Will Smith or his wife, Jada Pinkett-Smith, pump your breaks. He loves the couple, noting he did work with Pinkett speaking with Entertainment Tonight in an interview following the awards show.

Eddie Murphy is going to the Golden Globes.
The legendary comedian, 61, has been confirmed to receive one of the night’s highest honors, the Cecil B. DeMille Award, given as a way to honor “outstanding contributions to the world of entertainment,” per the Hollywood Foreign Press Association. The selection is made by the HFPA’s board of directors.
Murphy, a six-time Golden Globe nominee, picked up one trophy in 2007 for his critically acclaimed turn in the movie musical Dreamgirls. He snagged noms for 48 Hrs., Trading Places, Beverly Hills Cop, The Nutty Professor and, more recently, for Dolemite Is My Name.
The award is among two of the night’s highest honors, with the other being the Carol Burnett Award. News on that recipient is expected this week, per HFPA president Helen Hoehne. In accepting the Cecil B. DeMille prize, Murphy will join a list of recipients that includes Oprah Winfrey, Steven Spielberg, George Clooney, Denzel Washington, Tom Hanks, Jane Fonda, Morgan Freeman, Robert De Niro, Audrey Hepburn, Harrison Ford, Jodie Foster, Sophia Loren, Robin Williams and more.
“We’re honored to present this year’s Cecil B.DeMille Award to the iconic and highly esteemed Mr. Eddie Murphy,” said Hoehne. “We’re thrilled to be celebrating the lasting impact on film and television that his career — in front of and behind the camera — has had through the decades.”
Murphy has received several career achievement honors in recent years. In 2020, he accepted a lifetime achievement award from the Critics Choice Association, and last year, he was inducted into the NAACP’s hall of fame during the org’s Image Awards. “To make your living making people laugh is the highest blessing on Earth,” he said at the CCA ceremony.
The performer most recently starred in Amazon’s Coming 2 America, the long-awaited sequel to his 1988 box-office hit. In 2020, he received an Emmy for guest actor for his return to NBC’s Saturday Night Live. In a career that spans five decades, Murphy’s resume includes the Shrek franchise, Dr. Dolittle, Life, Bowfinger, Daddy Day Care, Norbit and Mr. Church, among many more. Murphy’s upcoming projects include the romantic comedy You People as well as producing and starring in Beverly Hills Cop 4. In 2015, Murphy received the Mark Twain Prize for American Humor Award from the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts.
The Golden Globes ceremony will return live after one year off the air amid a scandal with the Globes’ parent organization. As a result, HFPA underwent an overhaul, a new voting class was added, and its previous PR firm, Sunshine Sachs, parted ways with the organization.
The ceremony, hosted by comedian Jerrod Carmichael, will be held on Tuesday, Jan. 10. The broadcast will air live across the nation at 5 p.m. PT/8 p.m. ET on NBC and its streaming service Peacock from the Beverly Hilton Hotel. Nominations were announced on Monday.
The Hollywood Foreign Press Association, which presents the Golden Globes, is owned by Eldridge Industries. The Hollywood Reporter is owned by PME Holdings, LLC, a joint venture between Penske Media Corporation and Eldridge.
