The Little Mermaid is back! Disney announced Wednesday (May 7) that its animated musical series Disney Jr.’s Ariel — inspired by the Halle Berry live-action Little Mermaid movie — will arrive on the platform at 9 a.m. ET/PT on June 27 and the next day on Disney+.
Additionally, Billboard can exclusively reveal the fun-loving, adventure-filled theme song for the series below. Set in the Caribbean-inspired fairytale kingdom of Atlantica, the series follows mermaid princess Ariel (Mykal-Michelle Harris) as she embarks on underwater fun with her family and friends, including King Triton (Taye Diggs), Ursula (Amber Riley), Flounder (Gracen Newton) and mermaid friends Fernie (Cruz Flateau) and Lucia (Elizabeth Phoenix Caro).

In addition to the TV show, Walt Disney Records will release a digital soundtrack on June 28. Music is in integral part of the series, with Anthony M. Jones (Tone), Sofia Quinn, Olivia Waithe, Chantry Johnson, Michelle Zarlenga and Rosemarie Tan all part of the songwriting team; Emmy winner Christopher Willis as composer; and Sean Skeete, a dean at Berklee College of Music, the Caribbean music consultant. Plus, show-inspired items including dolls, playsets, role-play, costumes, apparel, books and more from Disney Consumer Products will be available for purchase this summer.

‘Disney Jr.’s Ariel’

Disney Junior

In addition to the premiere episode airing June 27 on Disney Junior and later on Disney Channel, an initial batch of eight episodes will be available on Disney+ the following day (Friday, June 28). Plus, a new series of two-minute shorts, called Disney Jr.’s Ariel: Mermaid Tales, will be featured across Disney+, Disney Channel and Disney Jr. beginning Wednesday, June 5, to build excitement around the new show.

The new series comes about a year after Bailey starred as the classic Disney princess in the 2023 Little Mermaid live-action film. In the movie musical, the spirited mermaid swims to shore (against her father’s wishes) and saves a prince from drowning, ultimately making a deal with sea witch Ursula to become human. Jonah Hauer-King played Ariel’s love interest, Prince Eric. Melissa McCarthy starred as Ursula and Javier Bardem played King Triton, Ariel’s father and Ursula’s estranged brother. Daveed Diggs, Awkwafina and Jacob Tremblay rounded out the cast as Ariel’s friends Sebastian, Flounder and Scuttle.

Ariel is executive produced by Lynne Southerland and is produced by Wild Canary in association with Disney Jr. Watch the opening credits and hear the theme song exclusively via Billboard below.

Three years after he blew Fab Four fans’ minds with his The Beatles: Get Back series, director Peter Jackson is dipping back into his Beatle bag on May 8 with the re-release of Michael Lindsay-Hogg’s legendary 1970 documentary Let It Be.
The film chronicling the final days of John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison and Ringo Starr will be available for the first time in more than 50 years when it airs exclusively on Disney+ on May 8.

According to a release, the film recorded during the midst of the group’s breakup “now takes its rightful place in the band’s history. Once viewed through a darker lens, the film is now brought to light through its restoration and in the context of revelations brought forth” in Jackson’s Emmy-winning 2021 docuseries.

“Let It Be was ready to go in October/November 1969, but it didn’t come out until April 1970. One month before its release, The Beatles officially broke up. And so the people went to see Let It Be with sadness in their hearts, thinking, ‘I’ll never see The Beatles together again. I will never have that joy again,’” director Lindsay-Hogg said in a statement. “And it very much darkened the perception of the film. But, in fact, how often do you get to see artists of this stature working together to make what they hear in their heads into songs. And then you get to the roof and you see their excitement, camaraderie and sheer joy in playing together again as a group and know, as we do now, that it was the final time, and we view it with full understanding of who they were and still are and a little poignancy. I was knocked out by what Peter was able to do with Get Back, using all the footage I’d shot 50 years previously.”

In fact, the restored Let It Be features footage that appeared Get Back, taking viewers into the studio and onto the Apple Corps London rooftop in Jan. 1969 for what would be the quartet’s final live performance. It also features the band in the studio writing and recording their Let It Be album. In the wake of the rapturous appreciation for Jackson’s series, and with Lindsay-Hogg’s support, Apple Corps asked Jackson’s Park Road Post Production team to restore Let It Be from the original 16mm negative, a process that also included the remastering of the film’s sound using the same MAL de-mix technology that was employed on Get Back.

“I’m absolutely thrilled that Michael’s movie, Let It Be, has been restored and is finally being re-released after being unavailable for decades,” said Jackson in a statement. “I was so lucky to have access to Michael’s outtakes for Get Back, and I’ve always thought that Let It Be is needed to complete the Get Back story. Over three parts, we showed Michael and The Beatles filming a groundbreaking new documentary, and Let It Be is that documentary – the movie they released in 1970. I now think of it all as one epic story, finally completed after five decades. The two projects support and enhance each other: Let It Be is the climax of Get Back, while Get Back provides a vital missing context for Let It Be. Michael Lindsay-Hogg was unfailingly helpful and gracious while I made Get Back, and it’s only right that his original movie has the last word…looking and sounding far better than it did in 1970.”

On Monday, prior to the announcement — and six months after the Fabs dropped what was billed as their final song, the melancholy “Now and Then” — the Beatles site teased “There will be an answer,” a lyric from 1970’s “Let It Be.” The post was accompanied by four blank frames positioned to resemble the Let It Be album artwork, as well as what seemed like a cryptic clue, “At last…” and the Disney+ and Apple Corps logos.

Though Let It Be premiered in movie theaters in 1970 and was released on home video formats in the early 1980s, it has never been officially issued on DVD, blu-ray or streaming.

The Marvel Cinematic Universe might be struggling in popularity at the moment (Deadpool & Wolverine has the potential to change that come this summer). But Disney sure does have comic book fans in a frenzy over their upcoming series and shows and had the internet buzzing when they dropped the first trailer to the highly anticipated X-Men ’97.

Decades after FOX’s X-Men went off the air, Disney+ is bringing back the beloved animated series and picking up where it left off in 1997 when Professor X bid farewell to his mutant family in the series finale. With Cyclops at the helm of the team, the OG X-Men team of Wolverine, Storm, Gambit, Rogue, Beast, Jean Grey and Jubilee will continue to take the fight to any and everyone who poses a threat to the world. Though no villains other than the Sentinel’s were shown, you can bet your bottom dollar that some of your favorite mutant baddies such as Apocalypse, Sabretooth, and Mr. Sinister will pop up throughout the series.

Featuring old school animation and the original score that 80’s babies grew to love on Saturday mornings, the new trailer promises to take us back to a time when a dollar could fetch you a bag of chips, a quarter juice and a Phillies blunt. We. Can’t. Wait.
X-Men ’97 is set to hit Disney+ on March 20. Will you be tuning in? Let us know in the comments section below.

Elon Musk is once again showing his a** on his X platform. The Tesla chief is pushing conspiracy theories in response to a video of immigrants assaulting a New York City police officer.

The X owner is back on his bullsh*t. Spotted on Crooks and Liars, Musk decided to add his unwanted two cents into the “migrant crisis” after a video of migrants beating an NYPD officer went viral.

Dipping into the white supremacist bag, Musk used the great replacement theory, describing it as a tool the Biden Administration is using to influence the 2024 presidential election.
“This explains why there are so few deportations, as every deportation is a lost vote. As happened this week, you can literally assault police officers in broad daylight in New York, be released with no bail, give everyone the finger and *still* not be deported!! Outrageous,” Musk wrote in a quote post on X, formerly Twitter.

Elon Musk Is Also Helping MAGA Lover Gina Carano
Musk wasn’t done showing his a**. Actor and former professional MMA fighter Gina Carano, who got canned from The Mandalorian for her MAGA-influenced political views, announced she is suing Disney and that Musk and X will be backing her.
Per NBC News:
“A short time ago in a galaxy not so far away, Defendants made it clear that only one orthodoxy in thought, speech, or action was acceptable in their empire, and that those who dared to question or failed to fully comply would not be tolerated,” the lawsuit says. “And so it was with Carano.”
X is helping cover the costs of the lawsuit, Carano confirmed Tuesday in a post to the social media platform.
“I would like to express my deepest gratitude & thank you to @ElonMusk & @X for giving me an opportunity to bring my case to light,” she wrote.
Carano also claims that she was the victim of a “bullying smear campaign” and that Disney wanted to “make an example” out of her.
Okay girl.
Elon Musk continues to prove he has an allegiance to losers.
