Bed Bath & Beyond is back – but with a few changes.

After being acquired by Overstock in June, the retailer returned on Tuesday (Aug. 1), this time as an online-only store. As part of the acquisition, Overstock refreshed and relaunched Bed Bath & Beyond’s website, mobile app and loyalty program in the U.S.

“The acquisition is a significant and transformative step for us,” Overstock CEO, Jonathan Johnson in a news release. “Bed Bath & Beyond is an iconic consumer brand, well-known in the home retail marketplace. The combination of our winning asset-light business model and the high awareness and loyalty of the Bed Bath & Beyond brand will improve the customer experience and position the Company for accelerated market share growth.”

Janet Yang Re-Elected President of Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences

Producer Janet Yang was re-elected president of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences by the organization’s board of governors, the Academy announced on Tuesday (Aug. 1).

Yang is the fourth woman to serve as president of the Academy. Oscar-winning actress Bette Davis was the first in 1941, though she resigned after just two months in the post. Fay Kanin served from 1979-83; Cheryl Boone Isaacs reigned from 2013-17.

Yang is beginning her second term as president and her fifth year as a governor-at-large, a position for which she was nominated by sitting Academy president David Rubin in 2019 and elected by the board of governors in 2022.

Yang’s film producing credits include The Joy Luck Club, The People vs. Larry Flynt, Zero Effect, High Crimes, Dark Matter, Shanghai Calling and the Oscar-nominated animated feature Over the Moon.  She won a Primetime Emmy in 1995 for the HBO film Indictment: The McMartin Trial, which was voted outstanding made for television movie. A member of the Academy’s producers branch since 2002, Yang previously served on the board as vp and chair of the membership committee and, prior to that, the membership and governance committee.

Also elected to officer positions by the board:

  • Bonnie Arnold, vice president (chair, membership committee)
  • Howard Berger, vice president (chair, museum committee)
  • Brooke Breton, vice president (chair, education and outreach committee)
  • Tom Duffield, vice president/treasurer (chair, finance committee)
  • DeVon Franklin, vice president (chair, equity and inclusion committee)
  • Lynette Howell Taylor, vice president (chair, awards committee)
  • Howard A. Rodman, vice president/secretary (chair, governance committee)
  • Kim Taylor-Coleman, vice president (chair, history and preservation committee)

Howell Taylor and Taylor-Coleman were re-elected as officers.  It will be the first officer stint for Berger, Breton, Duffield and Rodman. Arnold previously served as an officer in 2019-20 and Franklin in 2021-22.

“I am thrilled to welcome this year’s board officers,” Academy CEO Bill Kramer said in a statement. “Under Janet’s esteemed leadership, these dedicated governors will guide the Academy’s ongoing efforts to elevate the work of our global membership and film community, highlight our industry’s rich history, foster meaningful dialogue and continue to build equity and inclusion in every aspect of our organization.”

The board of governors sets the Academy’s strategic vision, preserves the organization’s financial health and assures the fulfillment of its mission.

Board members may serve up to two three-year terms (consecutive or non-consecutive), followed by a two-year hiatus, after which eligibility renews for up to two additional three-year terms for a lifetime maximum of 12 years.  Officers serve one-year terms, with a maximum of four consecutive years in any one office.

Before streaming and radio, artists and listeners had to rely on two things to hear new music: mixtapes and live performances. While that may seem like decades in the past, for hip-hop it wasn’t that long ago.

Throughout the hour and a half presentation, you’ll get to see intimate interviews with artists including Lil Wayne, Jadakiss, KRS-One, DJ Khaled, 2 Chainz, DJ Clue, N.O.R.E. and more. Each sit down discussion will aim to travel back in time to explore hip-hop’s underground origin and the trials and tribulations that were overcome to reach its cultural overtake today.

Keep reading to learn how to watch the new documentary below.

How to Watch Mixtape Online for Free

The documentary is considered a Paramount+ Original, which means it’s being streamed exclusively through the platform. If you’re already subscribed to Paramount+, then you can tune into the film for no additional cost. Those without a subscription will have to subscribe in order to explore hip-hop’s origins.

Not subscribed? Paramount+ is currently offering a 7-day free trial when you sign up for either of its plans: Paramount+ Essential and Paramount+ with Showtime, which means you can watch Mixtape for free. The plan with the best value would be Paramount+ with Showtime (especially if you’re looking for affordable streaming options) as it comes not only with access to the entire Paramount+ library of shows, movies and more, but you’ll also be able to stream all of Showtime’s library for just $11.99/month once the free trial ends.

Zendaya Posts Heartfelt Tribute to Angus Cloud: ‘I’m So Grateful I Got the Chance to Know Him’

News broke on Monday (July 31) that ‘Euphoria’ star Angus Cloud has sadly passed away. The rising star played the fan-favorite character Fez, an old friend, drug dealer and confidant to Rue, portrayed by two-time Emmy winner Zendaya. On Tuesday (Aug. 1), Zendaya took to Instagram to post an emotional heartfelt tribute to her late friend.

“Words are not enough to describe the infinite beauty that is Angus (Conor). I’m so grateful I got the chance to know him in this life, to call him a brother, to see his warm kind eyes and bright smile, or hear his infectious cackle of a laugh (I’m smiling now just thinking of it),” she wrote in an Instagram caption. “I know people use this expression often when talking about folks they love…“they could light up any room they entered” but boy let me tell you, he was the best at it.”

Zendaya opted for a loving black-and-white photograph of the late actor sporting a wide grin for her tribute. “I’d like to remember him that way,” she continued. “For all of the boundless light, love and joy he always managed to give us. I’ll cherish every moment.” Zendaya and Angus Cloud worked together on the first two seasons of HBO’s hit drama series Euphoria. “My heart is with his mother and family at this time and please be kind and patient as grief looks different for everyone,” she concluded. Fellow Euphoria stars Sydney Sweeney and Storm Reid left messages of support in Zendaya’s comment section by way of heart emojis.

Cloud passed at the age of 25. Read Zendaya’s full tribute to the late Angus Cloud here:

Teddy Geiger Prepares to Embrace ‘the Truest Version’ of Herself on ‘Teresa’: Exclusive

Back in 2019, a little over a year into her transition, singer-songwriter Teddy Geiger decided to spend three months in Madrid reconnecting with herself. Visiting friends and family, Geiger wanted an escape from her life in Los Angeles and a chance to reflect on all the change the last year of her life had brought.

It didn’t take long for that period of reflection to fuel Geiger’s inspiration, leading to a series of songwriting sessions while on vacation. “I had a little makeshift setup at the kitchen table for recording with a guitar and a bandurria,” Geiger tells Billboard. “I was stepping into being seen as female in the world, and this allowed me to take the time to express that.”

The result of that three-month Spanish sojourn is Teresa, Geiger’s upcoming sophomore LP under her solo moniker teddy<3>

Where Geiger’s debut album as teddy<3>LillyAnna, widened its scope to encompass myriad ideas and genres, Teresa thrives in its cohesion. Soaked in luscious dream-pop soundscapes that smoothly transition from one track to the next, the forthcoming album soundtracks an artist fully immersing herself in a distinct persona.

As Geiger tells it, that was largely the point; every part of Teresa, from its production to its title, lends itself to a specific vision of herself. “Teresa became the truest version of myself,” Geiger says. “I started writing the name on the shower wall and using that as a reminder to say, ‘Okay, there’s this essential person in me that I want to feel connected to and be able to express fully.’”

The name itself came from an innocuous interaction with a stranger on the streets of Spain in 2019 — when Geiger told them that her name was Teddy, they immediately mistook her name for “Terri,” thinking it was short for Teresa. “We went back and forth for a minute, and eventually I was just like, ‘You know what? Yeah. I like that,’” she says.

A clear-cut example of the existentialist songwriting Geiger explores throughout Teresa is “Never Enough,” the project’s second single debuting exclusively on Billboard. Over a relentless guitar line that slowly devolves into a hypnotic pop beat, Geiger’s faded voice ponders at what point she’ll finally reach satisfaction with what she has.

“I remember being really fixated on the idea of wondering when enough is actually enough,” Geiger says of the new song. “Once you have a little bit of something, it’s never quite enough; when the show has been binged, you want more of it. You’re always left feeling like there’s something lacking, unless you can come to peace with the feeling itself.”

Much like the rest of the songs written on Teresa, “Never Enough” comes from a place within Geiger that she doesn’t often get to access. For the last decade, Geiger largely made her living as a sought-after songwriter in the industry, known primarily for her close collaboration with pop star Shawn Mendes; her work on the singer’s 2019 hit “In My Blood” earned a Grammy nomination for song of the year.

To this day, Geiger says she “loves” songwriting with and for various artists — in the last two years, she’s written for artists ranging from P!nk to Meghan Trainor to Machine Gun Kelly. But she also points out that the skill set required as a songwriting partner is significantly different from what’s needed to write for herself.

“When I work with other artists, I always want the ideas to come from them — I will very rarely pitch whole ideas to artists, but rather just be there to support whatever their vision is,” she says. “So, to try and turn that process back on myself and relearn how to do it felt like a challenge.”

Despite the difficulty, Geiger says she is immensely proud of the work she put in on Teresa. For the first time in a long time, she says she finally feels like she has a grasp on her identity as well as her career as an artist. “It’s been really nice to focus on what it feels like, what it sounds like and what it looks like for me as an artist at this point,” she says. “It took some time, but I’m now feeling really focused on myself and my artistry.”
