From Kaytranada’s surprising new singles to Dove Cameron’s long-awaited debut album, check out just a few of our favorite new releases from this week here:

KAYTRANADA feat. Rochelle Jordan & Channel Tres, “Lover/Friend” & “Stuntin”

Leave it to Kaytranada to give us a breath of fresh air right before 2023 comes to a close. On his pair of new singles “Lover/Friend” and “Stuntin,” the taste-making producer/DJ continues his hot streak of creating airy, grooving house jams to keep your party going. Throughout “Lover/Friend,” Kay and Rochelle Jones enrapture their audience with a scintillating melody, while “Stuntin” sees him team up with Channel Tres for a perfectly in-the-pocket jam session.

Dove Cameron, Alchemical: Volume 1

Taking one thing and transmuting it into something brand new is virtually impossible — but as Dove Cameron proves on Alchemical: Volume 1, it’s a worthy endeavor. With her debut album, the fast-rising alt-pop singer adds trauma, heartbreak, pain and self-doubt into a bubbling cauldron of brooding melodies and top-shelf songwriting, mixing them together until they morph into A+ pop songs rife with life lessons and self-actualization. Alchemical isn’t quite magic, but with Cameron at the helm, it sure feels like it.

Holly Humberstone feat. MUNA, “Into Your Room”

Did you really like Holly Humberstone’s “Into Your Room” but just wished it had a touch more flair? Enter MUNA. On the band’s remixed version of Humberstone’s already-excellent single, the sounds slightly shift to an electro-pop groove, as the trio jump into the second verse to add their own interpretation of the track’s hopeless romantic aesthetic. It’s a match made in heaven, and one you ought to hear ASAP.

carpetgarden, “Cheerleader”

Gimme a Y! Gimme an E! Gimme an S! What’s that spell? YES. With their latest release, rising indie rock singer Carpetgarden is ready to take on the role of the titular cheerleader in this fuzzy new jam. Throughout the punk-adjacent, angst-fueled new jam, Carpetgarden takes on a voyeuristic point of view when looking at the “popular girls” of the world, wishing that they could know what it feels like to have that kind of power — and with more music to come, it’s a near-certainty that they’ll get to feel that mass adoration soon enough.

RAEGAN, “Coins”

Looking for a quick confidence boost as you head into the weekend? Rising alt-pop artist Raegan has got you covered. On “Coins,” the singer-songwriter celebrates the pay off to a long-fought journey. Instead of wallowing in the could’ve-been, Raegan instead focuses on the here and now, counting her dollars and reaping the benefits of her hard work. Add in a slick beat and grinding bass line, and you’ll feel that infectious energy start to pay you in dividends.

GLAAD Praises ‘Renaissance’ Film for Spotlighting Beyoncé’s LGBTQ+ Allyship

Beyoncé‘s latest project, Renaissance: A Film by Beyoncé, is already on track to be a smash hit at the box office — and if a recent statement by GLAAD is any indication, then the film is destined for rave critical reviews as well.

In a statement released on Friday (Dec. 1), the non-profit LGBTQ+ advocacy organization shared its thoughts on the new film following Beyoncé’s record-breaking Renaissance World Tour, praising the project for giving much-needed space for LGBTQ+ representation.

Renaissance: A Film by Beyoncé further exemplifies Beyoncé’s commitment to use her global platform to spotlight, uplift and pay tribute to the Black LGBTQ community,” said Anthony Allen Ramos, GLAAD’s vice president of communications & talent. “The Renaissance tour was deeply inspired by the LGBTQ community in ballroom culture and disco music. In the film, Beyoncé memorializes these people who were often victims of violence and lost to AIDS by spotlighting the many LGBTQ creatives of today who have influenced her, yet have previously not received the praise and recognition that they deserve.”

Throughout the new film, Beyoncé regularly shares the spotlight with queer creatives who helped make her tour possible, including collaborator and ballroom legend Kevin Jz Prodigy and backup dancers Carlos Basquiat, Honey Balenciaga, Jonte’ Moaning and Darius Hickman.

Ramos also praised Beyoncé for using her platform to highlight the story of her late uncle Johnny, to whom she dedicated her Renaissance album. Throughout the new film, Bey shares stories of her uncle, recalling how the pair used to dancing together to house music throughout her childhood.

This isn’t the first time Beyoncé has spoken up about her beloved uncle. In accepting GLAAD’s Vanguard Award for her ongoing LGBTQ+ allyship in 2019, Bey dedicated the trophy to Johnny. “He lived his truth and he was brave and unapologetic at a time when this country wasn’t as accepting,” she said at the time. “Witnessing his battle with HIV was one of the most painful experiences I’ve ever lived.  I’m hopeful that his struggle served to open pathways for other young people to live more freely. LGBTQI rights are human rights.”

Noah Kahan’s Name Is Ripe for Puns in Emma Stone ‘Saturday Night Live’ Promos

In case you still don’t know how to pronounce Noah Kahan‘s last name, the new Saturday Night Live promos are here to help you out — in the punniest way possible.

Kahan will make his SNL debut this weekend as musical guest alongside fifth-time host Emma Stone. In the promos released Thursday (Nov. 30), Kahan and Stone star alongside castmember Sarah Sherman, who has a little fun with the Vermont-born singer/songwriter’s name.

“Hi, I’m Emma Stone, and I’m hosting SNL this week with musical guest Noah Kahan,” Stone says in her intro.

“And I Kahan’t wait for the show!” Sherman chimes in, to confused looks from Kahan and Stone.

“What?” Stone responds. “Noah Kahan’t wait? Get it?” Sherman asks. “No,” Kahan simply responds.

In case Sherman’s quip isn’t helping, Kahan’s surname is pronounced with just one syllable — like Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan or late Godfather actor James Caan. The Stick Season musician is nominated for best new artist at the 2024 Grammy Awards, so it might be time to remember his name.

In the other promos, Sherman — wearing a multicolor-striped oversize sweater with a comically large patchwork collar and a loud patterned tie over the top — notes that Stone is her “style inspiration,” as she stands next to the actress dressed in all black. In another, Sherman points out that it will be Stone’s fifth time hosting the show, meaning she’ll join the vaunted Five Timers Club this weekend alongside repeat MCs such as Justin Timberlake, Drew Barrymore, Paul Simon and all-time leader Alec Baldwin (17-time host).

Following Saturday’s show, there will be two more Saturday Night Live episodes this year: Dec. 9 with host Adam Driver and musical guest Olivia Rodrigo and Dec. 16 with host (and SNL alum) Kate McKinnon and musical guest Billie Eilish.

Watch the new promos below, and tune in to NBC on Saturday at 11:30 p.m. ET/8:30 p.m. PT and streaming on Peacock for the new episode.

Here’s Every ‘Christmas at Graceland’ Performance: Watch Lana Del Rey, Post Malone & More

Elvis Presley was honored Wednesday night (Nov. 29) with NBC’s inaugural Christmas at Graceland special, executive produced by the late legend’s granddaughter, Daisy Jones & The Six star Riley Keough.

The live televised concert marked the first of its kind to ever be filmed from inside the Elvis’ famous Memphis estate, and featured performances from several A-list artists. Most of them put their own spin on one of Elvis’ many hits, although a couple sang some classic non-Elvis Christmas tunes. All of them, however, ushered in the holiday season by singing in front of various festive backdrops set up on the grounds of Graceland.

The production comes at an interesting time in Elvis’ legacy, following in the footsteps of two nearly back-to-back major motion pictures about The King’s life. Earlier this year, Sofia Coppola’s film Priscilla — executive produced by the musician’s ex-wife Priscilla Presley, whose memoir Elvis and Me inspired the screenplay — portrayed Elvis in a much less reverent light than Baz Luhrmann’s rosy 2022 Elvis biopic.

Christmas at Graceland is also marked by the January death of Lisa Marie Presley, Elvis’ only child and the mother of Riley and Benjamin Keough, and twins Harper and Finley Lockwood. A distinguished singer-songwriter in her own right, she passed away at 54 years old due to complications from a bariatric surgery she’d received years prior, according to the autopsy report.

With that in mind, it makes sense that Graceland may have needed a bit of extra cheer this year. Up to the task were Lana Del Rey, Post Malone, Kacey Musgraves, Kane Brown, Lainey Wilson, War and Treaty, Alanis Morissette and John Legend, with Riley herself appearing onscreen occasionally.

If you missed the special as it aired live, don’t worry: The full event is now streaming on Peacock. Or, see below for videos of all the Christmas at Graceland performances.
