Time is a luxury and when it comes to styling your hair, and spending an hour or more per day on it is not maintainable. Lately, blow dryer brushes have swooped in to create a time-saving alternative. While the Dyson Airwrap is probably the first model you think of when you hear blow dryer brush, there are other, more affordable options out there that will not only leave you with a salon-worthy blowout, but won’t result in your wallet giving you the side-eye.

No matter what your budget is, before you wait for some beauty deals to knock down the price of the Dyson version, Billboard tested out Drybar’s Double-Shot Blow Dryer Brush, which acts as a worthy Dyson Airwrap dupe. The stying brush is only $155 compared to Dyson’s $600 price tag and is available on Amazon, Sephora, Ulta, Nordstrom and Target.

Drybar Double Shot Oval Blow Dryer Brush
$155.00 $154.08

As someone with thick hair, it’s not uncommon for my hair to frizz, making the traditional blow-dry approach unappealing. I also just don’t have the coordination to hold the hair dryer in one hand and brush in the other while attempting to flick and style sections just like at the salon.

Instead, I’d just wait until my bi-annual haircuts where I’d get my hair blown out at the end of the appointment. This continued on until blow drying brushes like the Dyson, Revlon’s One-Step and Shark’s SmoothStyle took over my social feeds. As a shopping writer, I did my due diligence and researched various models on the market that could handle thick, frizz-prone hair yet wouldn’t break the bank — and that’s when I discovered Drybar’s Double Shot Oval Blow Dryer Brush.

While it’s more of a splurge, the styling brush is totally worth it as it comes with a wide brush that can hold and dry more hair. Where I’d normally spend over 30 minutes blow drying my hair, it now only takes me around 20 minutes — so you’re getting your money’s worth. It may sound cliché, but the end result is salon-quality — my hair is smooth, bouncy and has lots of shine to it. That’s likely due to the use of ionic technology, which helps seal the cuticle for less frizz. The brand also strategically placed the vent holes to help speed up drying time, while the brush’s oval shape helps smooth and add volume as you style.

You can also choose between three modes: cool, medium and high, which can be customized to your desired haircare needs. While price tag remains steep at $150, it’s well worth it thanks to the ergonomic design and drastically shorter drying tim,e resulting in shinier, smooth hair that looks as though I’ve just stepped out of the salon.

Does Beyoncé shop at Amazon? Queen Bey teamed with the retail giant to release Renaissance Tour merch, but fans have apparently spotted another item from Amazon after the “Cozy” singer shared photos from her concert in Phoenix over the weekend.

The photo gallery includes a snapshot of Beyoncé backstage sipping water from a tumbler and it looks like they BeyHive may have found the same one online — and an affordable dupe.

Ready for the Renaissance Tour? Where to Buy Beyoncé’s Disco Cowboy Hat

08/29/2023

Although some BeyHive members in her Instagram comments confused the water bottle with a similar version from the same brand, an eagle-eyed fan appears to have tracked down the exact same tumbler that Bey used. The fan shared a photo on X (formerly Twitter).

The Contigo Autoclose Shake & Go Tumbler is sold out at Amazon, but it’s currently available online at Walmart. You can also grab a similar option from the same brand at Amazon for $11.

Walmart

Contigo Autoclose Shake & Go Tumbler 20 oz.
$45.87

The Autoclose Shake & Go Tumbler has a double-wall, shatter-resistant plastic body with a removable straw and “trap door” under lid that’s designed for “clean and easy shaking and mixing,” per the product description. The tumbler is perfect for iced tea, coffee, water and other beverages and promises no leaks or spills. Some of the customer reviews pointed out at the Autoclose Tumbler is “perfect for travel” and fits easily in a cup holder. It’s available in clear/monaco and scuba blue with bubblegum pink.

The Shake & Go Fit Mixer Bottle from Cantigo retails for $11. According to its product description, the plastic bottle features a “unique” rounded-bottom design with a weighted shaker ball engineered to reduce clumps and build up, making it easier to mix up your protein drinks and shakes. It can also be used for water, of course, and other beverages.

Contigo Shake & Go Fit Shaker Bottle, 28 oz., Carolina Blue, Snap Lid
$11.00 $11.99 8% OFF

The leak-proof, dishwasher-safe bottle, which is available in 20 ounce and 28-ounce designs, has volume markings on the side for easy measurement and a convenient, carry-and-go handle. The lid is available in black and Carolina blue and customer reviews point out that the bottle is “sturdy” with “no leaks” and “great for protein shakes.”

Beyoncé hasn’t officially endorsed or confirmed the Contigo connection, but a co-sign from Queen Bey goes a long way. Makeup artist Patrick Starr cant certainly attest to that fact — his One/Size On ‘Til Dawn Matte Waterproof Setting Spray sold out after she used it on tour earlier this month (it’s now back in stock at Sephora).

Speaking of which, the Renaissance Tour makes its way to Levi Stadium in Santa Clara, Calif. on Wednesday (Aug. 30) followed by three nights at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, Calif. starting on Sept. 1. Click here for tickets.

The R-rated movie has been a moviegoing constant since 1968, when the Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA) created the modern rating system.

R of course stands for “Restricted,” which initially meant “Persons under 16 not admitted, unless accompanied by parent or adult guardian.” That age threshold was upped to 17 in 1970.

We’ve had movies rated R (and G, for general audiences) in every iteration of the rating system. The two other ratings during the first two years of the system (1968-70) were M (“Suggested for mature audiences – parental discretion advised”) and X (“Persons under 16 not admitted”).

The three other ratings under the current system are PG (Parental Guidance Suggested), PG-13 (Parents strongly cautioned) and NC-17 (adults only).

The modern ratings system was created in 1968 to replace the Motion Picture Production Code, also known as the “Hays Code” – which had been in place since 1930. Such ground-breaking films as Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf? and Blow-Up (both 1966) made the old code seem archaic. Jack Valenti, who had become president of the MPAA in May 1966, took the lead in creating a new system. On Nov. 1, 1968, the voluntary MPAA film rating system took effect. (The MPAA became the MPA in 2019 when they dropped the word America from their name.)

Let’s take a look at the 10 highest-grossing R-rated films of all time, according to boxofficemojo.com. All of the films in the top 10 are from this century, which makes sense, owing to higher ticket prices. To give you an idea of the popular R-rated films from the 1970s, ’80s and ’90s, we looked deeper on the boxofficemojo.com list. Here are the top three R-rated films, in descending order, from each of those decades.

1970s: The Exorcist (1973), National Lampoon’s Animal House (1978), The Godfather (1972)

1980s: Beverly Hills Cop (1984), Rain Man (1988), Fatal Attraction (1987)

1990s: Saving Private Ryan (1998), Terminator 2: Judgment Day (1991), Pretty Woman (1990)

A current hit, Oppenheimer, has already made this list. It also surpassed Bad Boys for Life to become the top-grossing R-rated film of the 2020s. (No. 3 for the decade: John Wick: Chapter 4.)

Todd Phillips directed three of 10 highest-grossing R-rated films of all-time – the first two films in The Hangover trilogy and Joker. Bradley Cooper starred in three of the 10 highest-grossing R-rated films of all time – the first two Hangover films and American Sniper. (Movie buffs should check out our lists of the top 10 box-office hits of 2023 and the 30 highest-grossing films directed or co-directed by women. Spoiler alert: Barbie heads both lists.)

Jay-Z is back on Instagram, again. The hip-hop mogul who has long been one of the most prominent A-list holdouts on the service uploaded his first — and so far only — post on Tuesday morning (Aug. 29): the trailer for the Biblical epic The Book of Clarence.
The drama executive produced by Jay stars Atlanta‘s LaKeith Stanfield as Clarence, described as a Jerusalem native who is a “streetwise but down-on-his-luck” man struggling to make a better life for his family while trying to emerge from debt. “Captivated by the power and glory of the rising Messiah and His apostles, [Clarence] risks everything to carve his own path to a divine life, and ultimately discovers that the redemptive power of belief may be his only way out.”

Jay’s posting of the film’s first trailer is significant because it, technically, marks his first Instagram post. But back in 2021, Hov briefly went Instagram official to promote another film he executive produced, the revenge Western The Harder They Fall, before shutting down his page a day later. At the time he accumulated nearly 800,000 followers in just a few hours. At press time the new account hyping Clarence had racked up around 775 followers in its first hour.

The Sony/TriStar Pictures/Legendary Pictures production was directed by Jeymes Samuel, who was also behind the camera for The Harder They Fall, his directorial debut that featured Stanfield. Clarence, due in theaters on Jan. 12, also stars Omar Sy, RJ Cyler, Benedict Cumberbatch, James McAvoy, Anna Diop, David Oyelowo, Alfre Woodard and Teyana Taylor.

“I wanted to tell a Bible story about an everyman,” Samuel told Vanity Fair of his effort to put Black characters at the center of a genre drama in the same way he did with Harder. “I always wanted to explore the Bible stories, but from the angle of the person that sells Jesus his sandals, the woman or man that owns the hair salon.”

Producer Hov told the magazine that he worried that people who heard the the premise might “immediately just focus on the religious aspect of it and not the human story,” with the piece noting that the film doesn’t make fun o religion or Biblical stories, but “rather attempts to expand that world.” The trailer features a reimagined version of Prince’s Purple Rain classic “I Would Die 4 U” over scenes from Clarence’s spiritual awakening, including one in which a Roman soldier asks Clarence to prove his Messianic powers by walking on water. “Damn,” Clarence says before taking the first step.

“This story is about a young man who finds his faith through love and through wanting to become somebody in the world, which is the story of everybody,” Jay said. “Everyone wants to find love and everyone wants to leave this place having accomplished something, having left their mark that they’ve been here and hopefully affected the world in a positive way.”

Check out Jay’s post below.

Darius Rucker doesn’t just want fans singing his latest single “Have a Good Time” this summer, he’s also sharing his love of sports in the form of an expanded collaboration with Fanatics and BCL Entertainment. Except this time, instead of solely focusing on NFL merchandise, they’ve dipped into MLB and select NCAA team merch. And yes, this collection also includes teams besides the 57-year-old singer’s personal favorites.

Starting Tuesday (Aug. 29), you can show off your favorite MLB team and love for the “Wagon Wheel” singer just in time to watch the latest baseball games. This also marks the third year that Rucker has teamed up with Fanatics to create an exclusive collaboration that combines music and sports, which, for the singer, has felt like a major achievement.

“To do it for a third year and expanding into other things besides the NFL — college and baseball and all that stuff — I love it,” Rucker tells Billboard. “I got my own clothing line — that’s unbelievable.”

What can fans expect this time around? The collection includes everything from T-shirts, jerseys, flannel and more that are available in all MLB teams and select NCAA teams. To check out the full collection, click here, or check out the MLB collaboration here, and get ready to show up to your next baseball game in style.

Billboard chatted with Rucker to learn more about what to expect from the collaboration, as well as his upcoming album Carolyn’s Boy (due out Oct. 6) and more.

Billboard: Is there anything you thought should absolutely be in the MLB and NCAA line?

Rucker: The warmer stuff for the fall and the winter I thought was really important because that’s where you wear them. You wear them to the football games and in the class, so I thought the warmer stuff was really important for football and then the other way for baseball. Baseball is usually in the summer, so you need the short sleeves and stuff like that.

Darius Rucker x Fanatics

Cindy Ros

What’s it like expanding into college football?

I went to the University of South Carolina and I’m a huge supporter of South Carolina. Getting into colleges is just amazing because there’s so many great universities out there. The fans are rabid about them and getting into that market, I think is just awesome and I can’t wait to have Darius Rucker shirts for UCLA and all that stuff — it’s going to be really cool.

Is there a specific piece from the line you’re most looking forward to?

The thing that I always wear a lot of is the hoodies — they make such cool hoodies. Like, last year, we had this great zip-up hoodie that I still wear. I never take off the stuff that they’ve been sending me. The hoodies are great, the sweatshirts are great — I wear pretty much everything we put out.

Outside of the collaboration, how do you feel about your upcoming album?

I’m ready for this record. It’s been five or six years since I’ve had a record out in country music, so I’m really excited to get Carolyn’s Boy out. Putting records out is always exciting because you work so hard on them and they’re such a big part of your life, and all you want to do is get it out to the people.

Is there a particular song you’re excited for people to hear?

There’s a song called “Never Been Over” that’s a little different than anything I’ve ever done that I’m really looking forward to people hear. But for me, that’s why I don’t pick singles — I love every song on the record. I’m ready for everybody to hear all of it.

And you’re also getting ready for a second year of the Riverfront Festival. How does that feel?

Oh, very excited. I’ve been wanting to bring a festival to Charleston for years, and finally we did it last year and it was a big success. We’re doing it again this year and have got some really great acts. Lainey Wilson and Turnpike Troubadours are just great bands, and so I’m really excited. Charleston seems to be excited, ticket sales are awesome and I’m looking forward to this big time.

What’s it like bringing something like this to your hometown?

Oh, great. Anytime I do something like this with Charleston, it just feels awesome because I’m bringing great things to the city I was born in and still live in. And to see everybody excited about it makes it even better.

What’s the best part about running your own festival?

Just going to see the bands. I love going there and just watching everybody play because usually you don’t get to see these bands because they’re traveling and you’re traveling in different places. But at a festival like that, you get to see everybody one right after the other and that’s great.

And looking at your tour so far, what’s been your favorite memory?

Meeting Bono with Willie Nelson in Dublin, that was just surreal. The fact that I actually could actually say that happened is surreal. Meeting Paul McCartney, meeting Al Green — those are moments that I’ll just never forget. I mean, those are the guys that made me want to be a musician, and here I am friends with them. That’s pretty unbelievable.

Millie Bobby Brown has ascended to global stardom as a character who has telepathic powers on Stranger Things. In real life she also seems to have a special sixth sense when it comes to love.
The 19-year-old actress told the Sunday Times that she was intrigued by future fiancé Jake Bongiovi, so she did what anyone her age would: she bombed through his Instagram. “I was interested in him and wanted to know more. As soon as we spoke I knew he was going to be a huge part of my life,” she said. “After we met we knew we never wanted to leave each other’s side.”

Brown and Bongiovi, 21 — the youngest of Bon Jovi singer Jon Bon Jovi‘s four children — appeared to confirm their engagement in April with a black and white post on Brown’s Insta that featured a clever Taylor Swift reference. “I’ve loved you for three summers now, honey, I want ’em all,” Millie wrote alongside the image of Jake hugging her from behind on a beach while she modeled what appeared to be a diamond ring on her ring finger. Jake’s version of the post featured the word “Forever” followed by a heart emoji; Brown and Bongiovi were first linked after they posted a selfie together in June 2021.

The actress told the paper that she quickly knew Jake was her forever person. “I ran to my mum and said, ‘I really, really like him!’ After we met we knew we never wanted to leave each other’s side,” she recalled. “You can’t pinpoint why, it’s just the feeling of knowing that that’s the person you want to spend the rest of your time with. I think so much of life is overthinking. The one thing that made clear sense to me was him.”

Speaking of that bling, Brown said Bongiovi used her mother’s ring in his proposal. “I’ve always loved that ring, it’s always stuck out to me, so she gave it to Jake,” she revealed. “They were in cahoots about the whole proposal. I love that I can always keep a piece of my mum with me.” Brown said her parents “adore” Jake, noting that they both come from families where their parents have been together for a long time; Jon Bon Jovi and wife Dorothea Hurley are high school sweethearts.

“My parents were young when they got together, so I always had amazing role models for relationships,” she said. “His family are wonderful people who welcomed me with open arms. I’m really grateful to be a part of their world.”

Brown said there is no set wedding date yet, but several designers have contacted her about making her a dress, though she insisted it’s “not about what I wear.” As of now, Brown said she’s not sure whether she’ll change her name to something like Millie Bobby Brown Bongiovi, or Brownovi, joking, “I definitely don’t think that’s it. We are having those conversations [though] and they are important to me.”
