Demi Lovato Recruits JoJo Siwa, Raven-Symoné & More for ‘Child Star’ Documentary

Demi Lovato is making her directorial debut on Hulu’s upcoming documentary, Child Star, and she has recruited an all-star lineup of fellow child stars for the project.

Drew Barrymore, Kenan Thompson, Christina Ricci, Raven-Symoné, JoJo Siwa and Lovato’s Camp Rock co-star Alyson Stoner are all set to take part in the documentary, which chronicles the highs and lows of skyrocketed fame at a young age, per The Hollywood Reporter.

Along with Nicola Marsh, Lovato will co-direct Child Star, a Hulu Original documentary film that promises to “deconstruct the highs and lows of growing up in the spotlight through the lens of some of the world’s most famous former child stars,” according to a release.

“There is no better film or topic for my directorial debut than this story, which is close to home,” the Disney Channel alum previously said in a press statement about the film. “Our project sheds light on important messages about growing up in the public eye, learning to protect our boundaries, and becoming active advocates of our own destinies. I’m humbled to be able to learn from the individuals who have lived the unique experience of child stardom and share their stories in our film.”

Child Star is produced by OBB Media’s Michael D. Ratner, who directed and produced Lovato’s 2021 documentary, Demi Lovato: Dancing with the Devil, along with Scott Ratner, Miranda Sherman, Kfir Goldberg and Lovato. It’s executive produced by Marsh, Scooter Braun, Scott Manson, Jen McDaniels, Glenn Stickley and James Shin.

In a new clip shared exclusively with Billboard on Wednesday (July 31), fans get a behind-the-scenes look at the coaches’ playful banter and connection as they gear up for the performance.

“Out of all the people you thought would become a superband, this wasn’t it,” Michael Bublé said of himself, Snoop Dogg, Reba McEntire and Gwen Stefani. He added, “If you were wondering, ‘Can Snoop Dogg sing?’ Yeah, he can sing.”

It was announced back in May that Snoop will be sliding into one of the signature spinning chairs on the singing competition show alongside fellow newcomerBublé. The panel for this fall’s season 26 will be rounded out by returning coaches McEntire and Stefani, with the former notching her third consecutive season on the series and No Doubt singer and solo star Stefani adding yet another notch with her eighth go-round.

Bublé isn’t a total stranger to the Voice stage, as the Canadian singer previously appeared as an advisor to Team Blake in season 3. Snoop also has Voice bona fides, thanks to his gig as a Mega Mentor in season 20.

Joaquin Phoenix Talks Lady Gaga ‘Spitting Up Coffee’ the First Time She Heard Him Sing on ‘Joker: Folie à Deux’ Set

Sure, Joaquin Phoenix won an Oscar for his portrayal of Arthur Fleck (aka the Joker) in 2020. But even an award-winning actor gets nervous on set when he has to sing in front of one of the biggest pop stars on the planet. Luckily for Phoenix, when it came to giving the greasepaint goon a voice voice, his partner in crime, Lady Gaga, was totally there for him.

“I do seem to remember her spitting up coffee the first time I sang, so that felt good, that was exciting, and made me feel confident,” Phoenix told Empire magazine about the Grammy-winning singer’s reaction on the set of the upcoming Joker sequel, Joker: Folie à Deux. “Gaga was always very encouraging of just, ‘Go with what you feel, it’s fine.’ For somebody who’s not a performer in that way, it can be… uncomfortable to do that, but also very exciting.”

It was important that they bond that way because director Todd Phillips wanted to bring the music out of the Joker, who at his core is a mercurial, failed comedian whose violent acts land him in Arkham Asylum, where he strikes up a lyrical love story with Gaga’s Harley “Lee” Quinzel, aka Harley Quinn.

“Arthur has become this symbol to people,” Phillips told the magazine. “This unwilling, unwitting symbol now paying for the crimes of the first film, but at the same time finding the only thing he ever wanted, which was love. That’s always what he’s been about, even though he’s been pushed and pulled in all these directions. So we tried to just make the most pure version of that.”

That expression of love comes through in musical numbers in the film, because, as Phillips said, Fleck has “music in him,” which explains why the latest trailer has Gaga singing the classic tune “Get Happy” and Phoenix tackling “When You’re Smiling (The Whole World Smiles With You)” in Fleck’s raspy croon.

“It was important to protect that with poor phrasing and occasional bum notes,” Phoenix said in an echo of a recent interview with Gaga where she admitted to purposely tanking her award-winning voice to get into character. “Arthur grew up hearing his mother play these songs on the radio. He’s not a singer, and he shouldn’t sound like a professional singer. He should sound like somebody that’s taking a shower and just bursts out into song.”

Joker: Folie à Deux will open in theaters on Oct. 4.

“The Sea in Me” by Cody Simpson

Simpson’s children’s book isn’t just the first time the singer has published a story for kids, but it’s the first story he’s ever written. There are 32 pages total with illustrations done by Amandine Thomas, while the storyline dives into how Simpson uses swimming to escape the chaos of life outside the water.

While there are many music books to choose from, the pop singer’s children’s book looks to inspire the younger generation while focusing on an activity other than singing or playing an instrument. While it’s not a musician memoir, it does give a more in-depth look into another of the artist’s passions, allowing fans to gain insight into how special swimming is to Simpson, even after he was unable to make it to the 2024 Olympics.

Amber Rose Says Ex-Husband Wiz Khalifa Urged Her to Go Public With Her Donald Trump Support

During an appearance on Candace Owens’ podcast, Amber Rose claimed that her ex-husband Wiz Khalifa encouraged her to endorse former president Donald Trump.

Around the 28:55 mark, the subject of Rose’s infamous photo with Trump and his wife Melania came up, and Owens asked when the model decided to make her political affiliation public. “My ex-husband actually told me to do it — Wiz,” Amber responded. “He told me to do it, yeah. Although, he’s not political at all and he’s not voting — he doesn’t want to be in that world whatsoever. He’s really one of my best friends, I love him so much, still to this day. He’s just such a great person.”

She continued, “But I went to him and I was just like, ‘I feel like I’m living a lie.’ And it’s so much more than Trump, but just me as a person. I was just like, ‘I’m so unhappy. I’m starting to hate everyone,’ and I was never like that. I was always full of love. I just wanna be me and I don’t know how to be me.”

Rose added: “I told him I wanted to post the picture. He’s like, ‘Amber, post that sh–.’ … I’m like, ‘For real? I should?’ He’s like, ‘Do it. Who cares? You’re voting for Trump, is that what you wanna do?’ And I was like, ‘Yeah, I’m kind of really into it.’ … He put a battery in my back and I was like, ‘All right, I’m gonna do it.’”

Since posting that picture on her Instagram back in May, Rose has become an ardent supporter of Trump’s campaign. She gave a speech at the Republican National Convention earlier this month, where she claimed that the media lied about Trump and his supporters being racists and bigots.

“[I] care about the truth, and the truth is that the media has lied to us about Donald Trump. I know this because for a long time I believed those lies,” she said, later adding, “I realized Donald Trump and his supporters don’t care if you’re Black, white, gay or straight. It’s all love. And that’s when it hit me: These are my people. This is where I belong.”
