On Monday (May 5), City Parks SummerStage announced that its planned benefit concert featuring R&B star Kehlani was being canceled under advisement from the Mayor’s Office. “We have been notified by the Mayor’s Office that they have concerns for security and safety issues,” their statement on Instagram began. “Those concerns are due to the controversy surrounding Cornell University’s decision to cancel Kehlani’s concert at the University, as well as security demands in Central Park and throughout the City for other Pride events during that same period.”
The post continued, “We strongly and emphatically believe in artistic expression of all kinds. However, the safety and security of our guests and artists is of the utmost importance … While artists may choose to express their opinions, their views may not necessarily be representative of the festival.” To date, the event is still listed on SummerStage’s main website. Kehlani reposted the statement in their Instagram Stories with the caption “lol.” In another story, they shared a selfie, writing: “I just found that one out on instagram by the way.”The SummerStage cancellation comes a week after a show with Kehlani as the headliner was canceled at Cornell University, where their chancellor wrote in a statement that the “Nights Like This” artist “espoused antisemitic, anti-Israel sentiments in performances, videos and on social media.” Kehlani has been staunchly supportive of the Palestinian people since the beginning of Israel’s war with the Hamas terror organization on Oct. 7, 2023 after the group kidnapped over 250 people and killed 1,200 at the Nova Music Festival near Gaza. Since then, an estimated 52,000 Palestinian people have been killed in Gaza, according to CNN, which cites reports from the Palestinian Ministry of Health.
“It is deeply unsettling to see elected officials using their offices to dictate the bounds of acceptable expression and muscling private entities to fall into line,” PEN America said in a statement. “No one wins when politicians meddle to suppress artistic expression.” PEN America is a group that supports and advocates for artist freedom and expression, and has lent its voice to fighting back against the misuse of antisemitism charges as the Trump administration has used antisemitism claims against college campuses.
The Blues Brothers are back — this time, in graphic novel form.
Dan Aykroyd’s family and the estate of the late Judy Belushi-Pisano have announced The Blues Brothers: The Escape of Joliet Jake, the first official Blues Brothers graphic novel. The project marks the first step in a broader plan to expand the Blues Brothers universe through new TV shows, films, live events and music.
The book is being written by Stella Aykroyd, Luke Pisano and James Werner, with illustrations by Brazilian artist Felipe Sobreiro. It is described as a “love letter and a sequel to the original Blues Brothers film.” Z2, the graphic novel publisher known for musical collaborations, will publish the title.

Dan Aykroyd, who created the Blues Brothers alongside the late John Belushi, has editorial oversight and will provide a foreword.
“Elwood and Jake are precious to me. In fact, one of them is actually my dad,” said Stella Aykroyd, as told to Deadline. “I’ve helped him sharpie ‘ELWOOD’ onto his knuckles before Blues Brothers shows with ‘Brother Zee,’ I’ve walked behind him as he’s made his way through a sea of fans dressed as Elwood and Jake all over the world and I’ve been his co-pilot on the road, where he’s explained to me the proper way to T-bone a car.”

The novel will also honor Judy Belushi-Pisano, who passed away in July 2024. She was instrumental in preserving and expanding the Blues Brothers legacy for more than 40 years. Luke Pisano and the creative team said the project draws on real-life experiences and stories from Judy, John and Dan.
Josh Bernstein, president of Z2, called the Blues Brothers “comedy, pop culture and musical royalty,” adding that fans can expect “the epic return of Jake and Elwood Blues.”
The Blues Brothers: The Escape of Joliet Jake will be available for pre-order through Amazon, Barnes & Noble and independent bookstores, comic shops and record stores.

For most of the world, the extent to which we get to see what goes on at the annual Met Gala starts and ends with the red carpet. There, the biggest stars of music, television, film and sports walk the red carpet in avant-garde looks designed by some of fashion’s biggest visionaries and legacy brands, all coinciding with a different theme. This year, the dress code was “Tailored for You” in honor of the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s new costume institute exhibit, “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style,” focusing on “the role of sartorial style in forming Black identities” and “the emergence, significance and proliferation of the Black dandy.” Under those guidelines, co-chairs A$AP Rocky, Pharrell Williams, Lewis Hamilton and Colman Domingo, plus superstar guests Rihanna, Nicki Minaj, Cardi B, Doja Cat, Megan Thee Stallion, Doechii, Sabrina Carpenter, ROSÉ, LISA, JENNIE and many more, showed up and showed out in elaborate looks marked by structured jackets, neutral colors and poignant head- and neckpieces.
But what happens after all those stars brave the camera flashes and red-carpet interviews and head inside? That’s the part we don’t get to see as much of, not to mention the various afterparties that go down once the dining and mingling of the actual gala conclude.
Luckily, anyone wanting a peek at the most exclusive parts of fashion’s biggest night needn’t look any further. Below, Billboard has rounded up all of the best photos of everything that happened after the carpet, both from inside the Met and amongst parties held by the likes of Pharrell, Public’s, Boom at the Standard, the Brooklyn Chop House and more.
