Janet Jackson Claims Kamala Harris Is ‘Not Black,’ Predicts ‘Mayhem’ for 2024 Election

Janet Jackson questioned Kamala Harris’ race in an interview published by The Guardian on Saturday (Sept. 21).

The interview touched upon the singer’s Together Again Tour, how she’s recorded “a lot of music that’s just sitting on the shelf,” and being a parent. It also shifted to the topic of the upcoming U.S. election, with the reporter noting Americans could elect their first Black, female president: democratic nominee Harris.

“Well, you know what they supposedly said?” Jackson chimed in. “She’s not Black — that’s what I heard, that she’s Indian.”

Added Jackson, “Her father’s white, that’s what I was told. I mean, I haven’t watched the news in a few days. I was told that they discovered her father was white.”

She didn’t elaborate on where she’d heard this information, which is false.

Harris is both Black and Indian. Her father, Donald J. Harris, came to the U.S. from Jamaica. Her mother, the late Shyamala Gopalan, came to the U.S. from India. They both moved to the U.S. to study at the University of California, Berkeley, which is where they met in 1962.

The Guardian approached the topic again with Jackson, asking if she thinks America is ready for a president who is a woman of color.

“I don’t know,” Jackson said. “Honestly, I don’t want to answer that because I really truthfully don’t know. I think either way it goes is going to be mayhem.”

The singer’s quotes about Harris trended on social media, where many fans expressed disappointment in one of their idols repeating misinformation.

“You had the chance to stand with a Black woman loud and proud and you didn’t. This is hard for a lifelong fan,” says a top comment on Jackson’s most recent Instagram post, which was taken over with reactions to what Jackson said about Harris.

On X, formerly Twitter, a post read, “Janet Jackson is one of the most influential people in music history. It was simply irresponsible of her to repeat something she ‘heard’ regarding the very thing that they use against Kamala! Her own race. We are less than 50 days away from the election. We gotta talk smarter!”

Over the summer, Donald Trump brought up Harris’ racial identity at the National Association of Black Journalists convention in Chicago, where he claimed, “I didn’t know she was Black until a number of years ago when she happened to turn Black and now she wants to be known as Black. So, I don’t know, is she Indian or is she Black?”

At the Sept. 10 presidential debate, Trump said, “All I can say is I read where she was not Black … And then I read that she was Black, and that’s OK. Either one was OK with me. That’s up to her.”

Harris later responded, “Honestly, I think it’s a tragedy that we have someone who wants to be president, who has consistently, over the course of his career, attempted to use race to divide the American people.”

Jackson, according to the reporter behind the The Guardian article, was not feeling well on the day of the interview. She had a cold.

Madonna Makes Veiled Entrance to Dolce & Gabbana Show Referencing Her ’90s Style at Milan Fashion Week

Celebrities swarmed Milan Fashion Week on the last big day of runway shows on Saturday (Sept. 21), sending crowds of adoring fans from venue to venue. Designers previewed mostly womenswear for next spring and summer.

Madonna sat in a front-row seat at Dolce & Gabbana, along with Naomi Campbell and Victoria De Angelis of Maneskin. Her bandmate, Maneskin frontman Damiano David, showed up at Diesel, one of the season’s hottest tickets, across town.

Madonna, attempting a semi-stealth entrance to Dolce & Gabbana, was draped in a black veil for a runway show referencing her ’90s style and celebrating the cone bra, which she debuted on tour in 1990.

Trending on Billboard

Models in bleach-blonde wigs strutted in Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana’s signature corsets and fitted jackets, each featuring the aggressively feminine cone bra, in a collection that notes said “pays homage to an iconic and powerful female figure.”

Madonna wasn’t cited specifically, but the stars of the Milan designers and pop star have been aligned ever since they made costumes for her 1993 tour The Girlie Show. The tour promoted Madonna’s Erotica album, which launched alongside her taboo-breaking coffee table book Sex.

The collection, dubbed “Italian Beauty,” perfectly captured that moment in time. Cone bras peeked out of cropped jackets with a pencil skirt, garters swung from corsets and coats sculpted the body. Floral prints returned in a color scheme of black, nude, red and white. Oversized cross earrings accented the looks. Heels were unapologetically high.

After taking their bows, the designers walked down the runway to greet their guest of honor. Madonna, still covered by the Chantilly long lace veil fastened by a gold and crystal crown, stood to embrace them both.

Born Olive Kathryn Grandstaff on Nov. 25, 1933, in West Columbia, Texas, she graduated from the University of Texas with a degree in fine arts. She came to Hollywood and began her movie career in 1953.

She met Bing Crosby while doing interviews for a column she wrote about Hollywood for her hometown newspaper. They were married in 1957, when she was 23 and he was 54.

She curtailed her acting career after the wedding, although she appeared often with Crosby and their three children on his Christmas television specials and in Minute Maid orange juice commercials. She became a registered nurse in 1963.

An alleged Kim Porter memoir, comprised of reported diary entries, has landed on Amazon amid Sean “Diddy” Combs’ arrest. Kim’s Lost Words: A Journey for Justice from the Other Side… was released on the retail site on Sept. 6, around a week before Combs was indicted on sex trafficking and racketeering charges.

According to Daily Mail, the 60-page book was published by Chris Todd, a Los Angeles producer who alleges that the book contains details Porter saved on a flash drive and gave to friends prior to her sudden death almost six years ago. Todd released the unauthorized memoir under the name “Jamal T. Millwood,” per Daily Mail. He’s listed as co-writer along with Porter.

The book is currently No. 1 on Amazon’s bestsellers list in the category of Western U.S. Biographies.

Todd provided no evidence to prove disturbing allegations in the book, which includes multiple claims of physical abuse.

“I was lucky enough to meet someone that purported to have Kim Porter’s flash drive,” he told the media outlet. “I know the celebrity source pretty well. I know how close they were to Kim and Diddy, and all the people in the hip-hop community. This was supposedly for Kim Porter from the grave, to come forward and tell her story.”

Todd added, “This is a dangerous situation, and I didn’t want to claim ownership of Kim’s words. But now I’m willing to come forward because of the recent arrest of Sean Combs. Now [that] the federal government has finally acted, I feel safer to come forward.”

Federal authorities arrested Combs in New York City on Monday. The next day, authorities released a 14-page indictment stating in part, “For decades, Sean Combs … abused, threatened and coerced women and others around him to fulfill his sexual desires, protect his reputation and conceal his conduct.”

The 54-year-old rap mogul, who pleaded not guilty to all charges, was twice denied bail and currently remains at Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn. His release date is listed as unknown.

As previously reported, Combs has been placed on suicide watch as a procedural measure for high-profile inmates. In a statement to Billboard, Combs’ spokesperson noted, “Mr. Combs is strong, healthy and focused on his defense. He is committed to fighting this case and has full confidence in both his legal team and the truth.”

Porter, a mother of four who shared three children with Combs — son Christian and twin daughters Jessie and D’Lilah – and an elder son, Quincy, with R&B singer Al B. Sure, died from pneumonia in November 2018.

Besides “Nasty,” the mini-concert included her 2014 hit, “2 On,” and a dance session with fans. “It’s really fun to be a part of this series because you get the chance to touch the fans, talk to the people, get really up close and that’s always great,” Tinashe told Billboard ahead of her performance to a packed house at the Urban Outfitters University of Arizona campus store in Tucson.

“I love Urban Outfitters because I feel like they just really support my individuality, and I love the fact that I can continuously evolve who I am with Urban Outfitters. They have just so many different aesthetics that you can lean into and different things that you can play with, and I just love that.”

From wide-leg jeans to oversized jackets, belly-baring crop tops, tiny shorts, thigh-high boots and plunging necklines, when it comes to style, Tinashe doesn’t mind mixing it up. “I feel like [my style is] constantly changing in the same way that I’m changing as a person and as an artist. My fashion is always reflective of an era that I’m in currently, and I love to be able to constantly evolve and explore that. Urban Outfitters is a great place to be able to find so many different [clothes] and it inspires you to try [something new].”

Urban Outfitters

And if there’s one song dominating Tinashe’s current era, it’s “Nasty.” The hit single off her Quantum Baby LP, has earned over 400 million streams and jumped to No. 69 on Billboard’s Hot 100 before peaking at No. 61. The track also peaked at No. 4 on Billboard’s Hot R&B Songs and No. 2 on the Top 50 TikTok Charts.

“I feel like it’s an empowering sentiment with that song, because to me, someone matching your freak is just meeting you where you’re at, matching your energy, accepting you for who you are and being able to be yourself. That’s the energy [of] ‘Nasty,’ owning who you are and being about that.”

The UO LIVE On Campus tour made stops in four cities including Athens, Ga., Washington D.C., New York City and Tucson. “UO is a platform for fandom — a place where artists can connect with their fans in a really unique way due to our stores and our ability to bring unique product to market,” Dimitri Siegel, Urban Outfitters’ chief creative officer said in a statement to Billboard.

Next month, Tinashe will hit the road for the Match My Freak World Tour. Following the viral success of “Nasty,” Tinashe wanted to give DJs a chance to join her on stage, so she teamed with SoundCloud to launch a contest to find guest DJs for the tour. Contestants can visit her SoundCloud page and complete a submission form for a chance to open one of the dates of the tour.

“When ‘Nasty’ came out, there were a lot of people remixing it and making it their own. Making their own mashups and putting their own spin on it, so I felt like [I wanted to do that] in that same energy of allowing the people who are really out there mixing it — playing it at clubs, parties, wherever — to be able to give them a spotlight. To go to every city and maybe shine the light on someone else locally who’s been doing cool shit and [is] a cool DJ. I think that’s a fun thing to do.”

The 23-date tour, making stops in Los Angeles, Brooklyn, Atlanta and Nashville, launches in Anaheim, Calif. on Oct. 14. Tickets are available at Ticketmaster, Live Nation, StubHub and Seat Geek.

Kamala Harris ‘Proud’ to Have Taylor Swift’s Support Despite Being ‘On Different Sides of the Super Bowl’

Taylor Swift is the celebrity endorsement of Kamala Harris‘ wildest dreams.

In a WIRED video posted 10 days after the pop star broke her silence on the 2024 presidential election, emphatically backing the Democratic politician’s campaign against Donald Trump, Harris reacted to Swift’s endorsement. “I am very proud to have the support of Taylor Swift,” she said in the autocomplete interview.

“She’s an incredible artist,” the VP continued. “I really respect the courage that she has had in her career to stand up for what she believes is right.”

There is, however, one cause on which Harris says she disagrees with the 14-time Grammy winner. “We were on different sides of the Super Bowl last year,” she said with a smile, referring to Swift’s support of boyfriend Travis Kelce’s team, the Kansas City Chiefs, who won against Harris’ home team, the San Francisco 49ers, in February. “But who’s mad at anyone for being loyal to their team?”

Swift is one of many musicians who has given Harris their seal of approval this election, with Ariana Grande, Billie Eilish, Cardi B, Megan Thee Stallion and more speaking out in support of the Democratic ticket over the past few months. The “Anti-Hero” singer’s endorsement, however, has objectively been the most talked about, with her Sept. 10 post calling the former prosecutor a “steady-handed, gifted leader” earning praise from Hillary Clinton, Stevie Nicks, George Clooney and more while sparking backlash from conservatives such as Trump’s running mate JD Vance, Megyn Kelly and Lil Pump.

Trump himself weighed in shortly after Swift said her piece, telling Fox & Friends that the singer would “probably pay a price for it in the marketplace.” Later, he posted on Truth Social, “I HATE TAYLOR SWIFT.”

Watch Harris react to Swift’s endorsement above.
