Chlöe and Halle Bailey were up for some sisterly competition as they went head-to-head on the Monday night episode of the Jimmy Fallon-hosted NBC game show That’s My Jam.

The sister duo was forced to battle each other in a game of Mixtape Medley Showdown, in which they were tasked with putting their own spin on several hit songs to see who could potentially out-sing the other and pull a victory for their team. Breakup songs was the theme of the game, and saw Chlöe and Halle single anthemic heartbreak hits primarily from the 2000s.

Chlöe was first up to the mic, singing a classic track from their mentor Beyoncé’s catalog: Destiny’s Child’s 2001 hit “Survivor.” The tracks seamlessly blended into one another, with Halle following with her rendition of Avril Lavigne’s “Complicated.”

Other hit songs that were featured in the medley included Nelly and Kelly Rowland’s “Dilemma” going up against Carrie Underwood’s “Before He Cheats”; Fleetwood Mac’s “Go Your Own Way” against Taylor Swift’s “We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together”; and Olivia Rodrigo’s “Good 4 U” against Kelly Clarkson’s “Since U Been Gone.”

After putting on an equally impressive vocal showcase for the audience, the score didn’t seem to matter to the competing sisters: The pair hugged it out onstage and soaked up applause from the audience.

Watch Chlöe and Halle play Mixtape Medley Showdown — as well as Slay It, Don’t Spray It — in the videos below.

A Kellyoke first! Kelly Clarkson opened up the Tuesday (April 11) episode of The Kelly Clarkson Show with her signature karaoke segment and gave one of Van Morrison‘s signature tracks a try for the first time, going with the Northern Irish singer’s top 10 Billboard Hot 100 hit “Brown Eyed Girl.”

Backed by her band Y’all, Clarkson kept her vocal delivery for the track relaxed and joyful and wore a breezy purple floral dress for the occasion.

“Hey, where did we go?/ Days when the rains came/ Down in the hollow/ Playin’ a new game/ Laughin’ and a-runnin’, hey, hey/ Skippin’ and a-jumpin’/ In the misty morning fog with/ Our, our hearts a-thumping and you/ My brown-eyed girl/ And you, my brown-eyed girl,” the American Idol alum effortlessly sings on the track.

“Brown Eyed Girl” serves as Morrison’s solo debut track shortly after his band Them broke up in 1966. The track was released in 1967 and later became Morrison’s first track to debut on the Hot 100 that same year, peaking at No. 10. The track marks the singer’s second-highest-charting song on the Hot 100; Morrison’s “Domino” placed one spot higher on the Hot 100 in 1970.

More than a decade after being introduced to the world, Harry Styles‘ career continues to blossom. Since releasing his self-titled debut album in 2017, the singer has played sold-out shows around the world, won his first Grammy and even ventured into acting in feature films.

He’s admired not just for his angelic voice and infectious smile, but also for his heartfelt songwriting and passion for the message TPWK (Treat People With Kindness). Among his fans are major artists from various genres — Lizzo and BTS’ Jung Kook, for example — some of whom have even covered his songs.

Check out our roundup of some of the most notable covers of his tunes below:

Lizzo, “Adore You”

Lizzo surprised a Miami crowd in January 2020 when she brought Styles on stage to sing her feel-good banger “Juice.” A month later, she belted a sultry and soulful twist on his song “Adore You” for her BBC Radio 1 Live Lounge performance. What else did she bring to her cover that the original was missing? A flute solo, of course.

Jung Kook, “Falling”

Jung Kook surprised ARMY when a passionate and piano-driven rendition of “Falling” dropped on BTS’ official YouTube channel in October 2019. This isn’t the first surprise cover drop from the boy band member, but his perfect harmonies on Styles’ emotional ballad had fans swooning.

Sabrina Carpenter, “Late Night Talking”

Sabrina Carpenter took on Styles’ Harry’s House single with her honeyed, soft vocals, backed by drums and keys. She was so natural on the track, it’s like she wrote it herself.

Kelly Clarkson, “Watermelon Sugar”

“Watermelon Sugar” is just one of dozens of songs Kelly Clarkson has covered on her talk show’s Kellyoke segment. With her classic runs and iconic gritty voice, she effortlessly sang the Billboard Hot 100 chart topper in October 2020, just a couple weeks after performing a different track from Fine Line, “Adore You.”

Kygo and Ellie Goulding, “Sign of the Times”

The duo behind “First Time” traded synth beats for acoustics with their rendition of “Sign of the Times.”  Their BBC Radio 1 Live Lounge performance in May 2017 begins with just Goulding’s recognizable breathy tone, with Kygo on piano. It slowly builds from there, bringing in an acoustic guitar and backup vocals to the bridge before a somber out.

Little Mix, “Falling”

A year before announcing their break, Little Mix gifted fans with an acoustic cover of “Falling” for BBC Radio 1’s Live Lounge in September 2020. Each member showed off their vocal abilities in solos throughout the verses, and came together in harmony for the chorus.

Måneskin, “Kiwi”

Eurovision winners Måneskin go all out during their live rock shows, and since 2018, Styles’ “Kiwi” from his debut album would occasionally find its way into the group’s setlist. Their take on one of Styles’ most classically rock-sounding tracks is high energy, complete with the original song’s electric guitar solo.

There are no official videos or audio recordings of the cover online, but you can check out the band’s July 2019 take on “Kiwi” during their Milan show here.

MUNA is one of the latest musicians to give a Celine Dion cover a try, opting for the ballad vocalist’s signature track, “My Heart Will Go On,” for triple j’s Like a Version cover series on Friday (March 24).

Members Katie Gavin, Josette Maskin and Naomi McPherson turned the iconic into their own, taking up their respective positions at the acoustic guitar and piano to provide the song with an intimate and unique touch.

“Every night in my dreams/ I see you, I feel you/ That is how I know you go on/ Far across the distance/ And spaces between us/ You have come to show you go on,” Gavin delicately sings before launching into the track’s signature chorus. “Near, far, wherever you are/ I believe that the heart does go on/ Once more, you open the door/ And you’re here in my heart/ And my heart will go on and on.”

“My Heart Will Go On” was released as the lead single from the Titanic: Music from the Motion Picture soundtrack in 1997. The track peaked at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 and spent a total of 20 weeks on the chart, and is lauded as one of Dion’s greatest career hits.

“My Heart Will Go On” hit its 25 year milestone last year, while March 23, specifically, marked the 25th anniversary of Dion performing the track at the Oscars. To celebrate, she released a remastered 4K of the song’s respective music video. “To celebrate the 25th anniversary of Celine Dion’s biggest hit of all time, this performance focused music video has been reimagined, featuring remastered footage in stunning clarity,” the video’s caption on YouTube reads.

Kelly Clarkson decided to show off just what her voice is capable of for the Friday (March 17) episode of her namesake talk show, giving her R&B side a chance to shine on Jazmine Sullivan‘s 2021 track “Pick Up Your Feelings” for the program’s Kellyoke segment.

Accompanied by her band Y’all — and a trio of backup singers to provide an assist — the American Idol alum stood before the stage in emotive blue lighting and injected the popular track with her signature belt and stunning vibrato.

“New phone (who is this?)/ Brand new, like the whip/ Rack it up, no assist/ Main bi–h I ain’t average/ Wake up, need a zip/ Hennessy take a sip/ I got my jeans, I’m too thick/ I ain’t got the room for extra baggage,” Clarkson passionately sang on the track’s pre-chorus, before launching into the catchy refrain. “Don’t forget to come and pick up your, ooh, feelings/ Don’t leave no pieces (oh, oh)/ You need to hurry and pick up your, ooh-ooh, feelings/ While I’m up cleaning.”

“Pick Up Your Feelings” was released as the second single from Sullivan’s Heaux Tales EP. The track peaked at No. 75 on the all-genre Billboard Hot 100 chart, while the EP reached the top five of the Billboard 200 following its release, peaking at No. 4.

Clarkson’s cover of the Sullivan track comes amid recent covers of songs by Billy Joel, Death Cab for Cutie, Smashing Pumpkins and more.
