Malcolm X might be the last historical figure to come to mind as it relates to the politics of Republican Party presidential hopeful, Donald Trump. However, a Black conservative evoked one of Malcolm X’s most famous quotes regarding “House Negroes” and “Field Negroes,” saying that those in the field are “going for Trump.”
Shelly Wynter, who refers to himself as a Traditionalist conservative, was a guest on CNN this week with anchor Sara Sidner and were having a discussion about the upcoming election race between Trump and Vice President Kamala Harris.
Wynter referenced Malcolm X’s famous 1963 speech in which the civil rights leader presented a comparison of two types of so-called Negroes, a widely used term at the time to describe Black people in America. In the speech, X lays out that the house Negro was partial to the slave owner and wanted his favor, while the field Negro held the slave owner in contempt.
Wynter, perhaps misunderstanding or misrepresenting X’s quotes, shocked the CNN panel by saying that the “field African American” to use his words would pull the lever for Trump.
“Let’s be honest here, and let’s really be clear what’s being said,” Wynter began in the now viral c. “If you’re an African American man, look, let me boil this election down in the African American community to a very simple [way]. I’ll reference the great Malcolm X. This race is between house African Americans and field African Americans, and a field African Americans going for Trump.”
Wynter added, “I’m talking about your men who build, your men who put things together, your men who work with their hands, your men who do things, not the men who push paper or the men are connected to power and want to continue to be connected to power, I’m talking about the men in our community who are doing the work.”
Sidner was taken aback by Wynter’s analysis and attempted to offer some pushback but was met with overtalking with Wynter deftly evading her question asking if he was putting down Black men with white-collar professions. Michael Blake, the former DNC Vice Chair and an aide to President Barack Obama, didn’t allow Wynter to own the moment and challenged his assertions.
“Is Shelley the house one or the field one?” Blake said. “I’m just trying to understand that part, I’m just trying to understand the one that’s spitting talking points right now. Are you the house Negro and the field Negro that you’re referring to? I’m just trying to make sure. Your question was about denigrating Black people, that literally was your question. You have a Republican fool who was talking right now. You literally just said Black men, this is an election about house or field. This is the nonsense that we are listening to right now by those that are supporting Donald Trump.”
The clip is still making its rounds across social media with many sharing their thoughts on why Shelly Wynter used Malcolm X’s speech to hammer his point him. We’ve got the clip in question and responses from the X platform below.
This CNN discussion goes completely off the rails when radio host Shelley Wynter says: “This race is between house African-Americans and field African-Americans, and the field African-Americans are going for Donald Trump.”

Celebrated actor LeVar Burton threw some shade at the conservative Moms For Liberty group during a recent speech, causing the group to protest his words online.
On Wednesday (Nov. 15), LeVar Burton began his opening remarks as the host of the 74th National Book Awards & Benefit Dinner, which was held in New York City. “I had the tremendous honor of serving as the Master of Ceremonies for the 70th National Book Awards in 2019 and it genuinely means the world to me to join you all on this stage to celebrate the importance of literature to our shared culture, Burton began. “Before we get going, are there any Moms for Liberty in the house? Moms for Liberty? No? Good! Then hands will not need to be thrown tonight.”
The conservative group, who have made it their mission to advocate against books that have topics such as sexuality, race and gender being in school libraries, decided to take that as a threat by Burton and wrote as much in a post on X, formerly Twitter, soon after word of that part of the speech made the rounds on the Internet.
“American moms weep as a childhood favorite, Reading Rainbow, calls for physical attacks against us because we are protecting the innocence of our children,” the post began before calling Burton out by name asking him “why have you sunk so low? Threatening physical violence against women?” The post has gained traction among the right-wing media establishment and has also caught the attention of a few far-right personalities.
The Star Trek: The Next Generation actor has been highly vocal about supporting literary freedom. He replaced Drew Barrymore as the event host after the National Book Awards retracted their invitation to the television host in the wake of her decision to resume production of her show during the SAG-AFTRA strike. “On the home front, we are fighting for control of truth and how we interpret truth in this country,” LeVar Burton said during his speech. “Books are being banned, words are being silenced, and writers and others who champion books are under attack.”

First, they were mad at M&M’s for making Maya Rudolph its spokesperson. Now, they have set their crosshairs on Hershey’s.
There are a bunch of sour people on the internet now after Hershey’s Canada announced that Fae Johnstone, a trans woman, would be one of five women to be featured in Hershey’s Canada’s International Women’s Day campaign.
Hershey’s Canada rolled out its Her For She campaign on Wednesday, which features limited edition wrappers with the likenesses of five Canadian women, including Johnstone.
Johnstone is an award-winning trans activist and a professional LGBTQ+ advocate. When speaking about her involvement in the campaign, she said, “I hope this campaign helps give more young women and girls role models and possibility models.”
Immediately bitter conservatives lost their collective marbles, and #BoycottHershey began to trend on Elon Musk’s Twitter. “How does it honor women to feature a MAN wearing lipstick? Did you feature a white man in blackface during Black History month?,” one Twitter user stupidly wrote.
“Hershey’s celebrates #InternationalWomansDay featuring a biological male You can’t make this shit up #BoycottHersheys,” another MAGA clown wrote.
These people are genuinely not okay.
But, for every person showing expressing blatant transphobia, there was someone to defend Hershey’s for standing in solidarity with Trans women.
“It’s sad that #BoycottHersheys is trending because of transphobia. I think we’re going to see conservatives start lashing out more at gay marriage as well. This is not OK,” another Twitter user wrote.
The right is dug in deep on identity politics. You don’t have to look further than U.S. Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene, who constantly spews hateful rhetoric daily toward the Trans community.
