Cher
After more than 60 years in the music industry, Cher has claimed her forthcoming record will “probably” be the last album she releases.
Per U.K. publication The Sun, Cher made her recent comments while at London’s Lyceum Theatre in support of her recently-released biography, Cher: The Memoir, Part One. While discussing the first of her two-volume release, she turned her attention to her forthcoming 28th album.
“This is probably my last album that I’m gonna do,” she admitted. “I’m really excited. They are great songs and I’m just really excited that I’m doing it.”

Though no specific details have been announced as yet, Cher confirmed her intentions to make a new record while speaking to Jimmy Fallon on The Tonight Show. A new record of entirely original material would be her first since 2013’s Closer to the Truth, though some new compositions arrived on 2023’s Christmas, which topped the Top Holiday Albums chart.

“I’m really excited to be doing anything now,” Cher told the English crowd. “I’m older than dirt now, OK? I’m the oldest person I meet in almost every room unless I’m in an old folks’ home.”
Releasing her first album in 1965 as one half of duo Sonny & Cher with then-husband Sonny Bono, Cher launched a solo career that same year, and embarking upon a journey which would eventually see her crowned the ‘Godess of Pop’.
In October, Cher was honored with an induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in a ceremony which also saw Mary J. Blige, A Tribe Called Quest, Peter Frampton, and others inducted.
During her well-received speech at the ceremony, Cher recalled the advice that she had been given by her mother from a young age that guided her career to where it is today. “She said to me, ‘You might not be the prettiest, you might not be the smartest, you might not be the most talented, but you’re special,’” she said. “She kept instilling it into me: ‘If you’re down and you’re out, you get up again.’”
Cher continued her speech by ensuring the women in the audience were paying attention to her words. “The one thing I have never done, is I never give up. And I am talking to the women, okay — you guys are on your own,” she offered. “We have been down and out, but we keep striving, and we keep going and we are somebody. We are special, as my mother would say.”

The audiobook is read in part by Cher and narrated by Tony Award-winning actress Stephanie J. who starred in The Cher Show. Cher and Brooks alternate between chapters creating a “unique audiobook treatment” to immerse listeners into her life story.
“When it came to completing the audiobook, I knew I wouldn’t be able to do it all myself due to my dyslexia. But then I thought of Stephanie, who won the Tony for playing me on Broadway in The Cher Show. I knew she would be the perfect choice to get across to the reader the essence of me,” Cher explained. “I called her and within hours she re-arranged her schedule to start the recording. I felt so safe having her help share my story, and she did a beautiful job.”
Reflecting on life lessons, Palmer goes into teaching mode with Master of Me: The Secret to Controlling Your Narrative. Read in her own words, the actress-singer-host gets candid about her struggles with boundaries, unconditional love, forgiveness and feeling worthy.

Early in May, the New York house music stalwarts at Nervous Records were enjoying two hits in the top 10 on the Beatport chart: A zippy, heavily syncopated reimagining of Kendrick Lamar‘s “Bitch Don’t Kill My Vibe” by Liquid Rose and Trace (UZ), and a thunking version of Diddy and Keyshia Cole’s “Last Night” by Loofy.
In both cases, the older track was outfitted with a fresh vocal and re-tooled for dancefloors, swooping at just under 130 beats per minute. “There’s something special about being able to know all the lyrics and sing along to a brand new song — even though it’s not a brand new song,” says Rida Naser, associate director of music programming for SiriusXM’s BPM and The Pulse.
Many producers have taken note. Ghostbusterz tackled the Doobie Brothers’ “Long Train Running,” while Armonica, Zamna Soundsystem, and ROZYO took on the dance version of Lana Del Rey’s “Summertime Sadness;” both hit the Beatport Top 100. (Beatport, a popular site for DJs and electronic music enthusiasts, ranks songs according to the number of downloads.) Mr. Belt & Wezol’s re-do of Whitney Houston‘s resilient late-’90s classic “It’s Not Right But It’s OK” recently surpassed 65 million streams on Spotify.

“We’ve been doing loads of these since 2018,” says Kevin McKay, a DJ, producer, and founder of the label Glasgow Underground. “A lot of artists were shying away from it because they felt it was uncool, or that they would be looked down on for it. Now almost all the labels are doing them.” For a time, Joe Wiseman, head of Insomniac Music Group, “was getting sent so many dance covers” that he considered issuing a moratorium on signing them.
[embedded content]
Dance music has a long history of referencing the past, often through club-ready remixes and prominent samples. But while most aspiring rockers cut their teeth in a cover band, “in dance music, that part gets skipped,” McKay says, “and people go straight to writing originals.”
Still, as anyone who’s ever attended a wedding knows, many people need to be coaxed onto the dance floor — often by hearing songs they already recognize. Plenty of club-goers need the same enticement.
Dance covers “evoke a sense of nostalgia, reminding [listeners] of the original hits and the memories associated with them,” says Wez Saunders, managing director of the label Defected Records. And those “reworks often serve as a gateway, drawing attention to the genre and leading listeners to discover new music.”
George Hess, a veteran dance radio promoter, believes the lack of shared experiences during the pandemic — when “new memories were difficult to create since people basically weren’t together enjoying each other’s company” — further heightened listeners’ desire for familiarity.
Around this time, mainstream pop saw a spike in “I know that one!” samples and in-your-face interpolations, offering some potential support for Hess’ theory. And two of the biggest singles to come out of the commercial dance world recently, ACRAZE’s “Do It To It” and David Guetta and Bebe Rexha’s “I’m Good (Blue),” borrowed liberally from old hits by Cherish and Eiffel 65, respectively.
[embedded content]
In a world where anyone with a computer can cobble together a dance track, it’s also possible that producers are increasingly incentivized to make covers as a way to lasso listeners overwhelmed with similar-sounding releases. In 2023, Luminate reported that more than 120,000 tracks hit streaming services daily. The flow of new tunes is more controlled at Beatport; still, between 20,000 and 25,000 fresh tracks hit the platform per week.
Nervous Records works with Louie Vega, “who always uses live musicians” to inject different tones and textures into his tracks, says label co-founder Mike Weiss. “With fewer producers doing that, a lot of them are all using the same plugins,” and covers offer a way to stand out.
McKay believes the covers trend may be more about channeling the knock-out top lines and gleaming hooks of the originals: “We have a dearth of songwriting talent, so when you’re on the dance floor, you get this amazing song from the past and it just blows away a lot of the current content.” Glasgow Underground has done well on the Beatport chart with covers of The S.O.S. Band, Kylie Minogue, ABBA and more.
In addition, the complex dynamics of the music business ensure that sampling or interpolating a song is an arduous process, potentially making covers a more attractive proposition. To clear a sample, a producer needs to obtain permission from the owner(s) of both the original composition and the recording. “Independent artists without representation might struggle to even get a response to their request,” explains Tim Kappel, an entertainment attorney and founder of the firm Wells Kappel. Their request might also be denied, he continues, or be granted only if the artist agrees to pay hefty up-front fees for using the material.
In contrast, artists can typically cover songs in the U.S. without the explicit approval of the original songwriters, under the somewhat vague condition that their “arrangement shall not change the basic melody or fundamental character of the work.” The original writers receive all the songwriting royalties from the resulting cover. “For a dance artist that just wants to consistently release music, the obstacles to clear samples and interpolations might outweigh the desire for the artist to have publishing on the underlying composition” and drive them to produce more covers, says Jodie Shihadeh, founder of Shihadeh Law.
[embedded content]
While dance music remakes have increased, they are not an automatic home run. In Wiseman’s view, the most obvious source material is “never the best” — he’s not looking for a house remake of Britney Spear’s “Toxic,” for example. “You want to get that feeling where someone’s like, ‘I know I heard that song years ago, and I loved it back then, but I don’t quite remember it,’” he continues.
And several label executives also emphasized that covers are just one tool they use to hook audiences. “As a label who’s been around for 33 plus years, [covers] can’t be our sole focus,” says Andrew Salsano, vp of Nervous Records.
Nervous Records is hopeful that one more reimagined classic can light up dancefloors this summer: On July 19th, the label will put out a new version of Cher‘s “Believe” from Super Flu. While the original thrums like an overheated racecar engine, the Super Flu release builds slowly, replacing Cher’s Auto-Tune flourishes with a conversational delivery, trading in triumph for something more ambivalent.
DJs are already testing the Super Flu single in their sets. “I’ve been in clubs when it’s been played,” Weiss says. The dancers’ response?
“Very emotional.”

Cher is standing by her man no matter what. She has broken her silence after footage of AE fighting at Cannes leaked online.
As reported by TMZ, the pop music icon is holding her head high even though her significant other is being dragged through the mud in the media and on social media. Last week, footage showed a brawl break out at a party hosted by promoter Rich Akiva during the Cannes Film Festival. It appears that the crews of Tyga and Travis Scott started brawling. During the melee AE, born Alexander Edwards, got into it with 808 Mafia producer Southside. Video taken by onlookers show that Cher’s boyfriend held his own and landed several clean punches on him before Cactus Jack pulled him off Southside. Tyga’s camp and AE stayed at the party after the fight was broken up and lived their best life like nothing occurred
Given that this was such a high profile incident, it wasn’t long before the Moonstruck actress spoke on the matter. On Saturday, June 1, she took to X, formerly Twitter, to defend AE. “I’m Proud of Alexander. He Didn’t Start The fight Against 2 Men,… He finished it, Gotta Love Him,” she wrote.
Cher and AE originally went public with their relationship back in November 2022. She is 40 years his senior. During a visit to The Kelly Clarkson Show, she acknowledged the age difference. “On paper, it’s kind of ridiculous,” she explained. “But in real life, we get along great. He’s fabulous. And I don’t give men qualities that they don’t deserve.”
You can see AE discuss the brawl below.

Protect young Black men.
Yes, I am going there, because for some reason women have been way too comfortable with championing other women doing deplorable things to young men that we have been crucifying our male counterparts for.
Let me explain. When Diddy, 54, confirmed he was dating Yung Miami, 29, the world was up in arms calling for the City Girl to be protected while pointing out that Diddy was even older than her parents, who were both satisfied with the relationship at the time. Even when it was announced that Cher, 77, was dating music producer and Amber Rose’s ex, Alexander “AE” Edwards,38, many women had words for Edwards dubbing him a “gold digger” despite Cher publicly stating the “two just get each other.”
Regardless of both of the relationships above being significant in age difference, another important fact that everyone missed in their outrage is both of the younger partners are at least 30 (or approaching) while Jalen Green is not. Let’s talk about why that is important. Under most laws, young people are recognized as adults at age 18. However, according to the National Library of Medicine, brain development is not complete until near the age of 25. This refers specifically to the development of the prefrontal cortex–the part of your brain responsible for making “executive decisions,” such as thinking and problem-solving–confirming that most people don’t reach full maturity until their mid-20s.
So the truth is, Draya Michele isn’t “goals,” she’s a predator who knowingly took advantage of a young man who doesn’t neither understand the true trap that he was being placed in, allegedly, nor did he have any wisdom from his male colleagues to protect him.
Of course with the number of men spilling the tea about their time with her growing daily, Draya took to her Instagram Story to share her feelings nearly a week after she announced she was allegedly expecting a baby with the 22-year-old Houston Rockets player, writing:
“I feel like I am at the bottom of a pile of heavy humans. Most hours of the day I feel like I am struggling to breathe.”
For the record, it’s unclear if the post was the Mint Swim CEO expressing discomfort due to symptoms of being seven months pregnant or a reaction to the internet dragging her for the 17-year age gap between her and her daughter’s rumored father. But the post resulted in women expressing sympathy and calling for the backlash from men to stop. Although the truth is, she should be shamed for her predatory behavior. The fact that her latest child’s father is one year older than her eldest son, Kniko Howard, born in 2002, should be a red flag for most and is extremely problematic.
For those who still want to argue that they are two equally consenting adults, despite science proving otherwise, let’s discuss the age gap rule of thumb.
If you subscribe to the “rule of seven,” the question of where the boundaries of a socially acceptable relationship lie isn’t a matter of opinion—they’re clearly defined. According to the rule, the age of the younger partner (regardless of gender) should be no less than seven more than half the older partner’s age. Summarizing the point that based on Draya’s age, she shouldn’t date anyone younger than 27, once again proving the relationship borders the line of predatorial.
It’s important to call out this type of behavior because outside of her being an influencer with a massive platform, publicly championing her inappropriate relationship not only sets an unhealthy trend in age-gap relationships but also excuses the abuse against young men as being part of “manhood,” which not only creates trauma for the individual but also further perpetuates the pattern of men feeling unheard when it comes to various forms of abuse.
Sexual abuse for underdeveloped men and boys has been on the rise with many teachers manipulating young men and having children with little to no consequences. According to a study funded by the U.S. Justice Department, about 10% of all students experience sexual misconduct by a school employee sometime between kindergarten and the time they graduate from high school. Male abusers outnumber females, the study said. But the number of reports of female educators charged with sexual abuse of students is rising — not necessarily because there are more women abusing children, but because they’re getting caught.
Sexual abuse also has long-term effects on male victims, making it difficult to understand the magnitude of its impact. For male survivors, the long-term effects can be devastating, leading to depression, low self-esteem and post-traumatic stress disorder; along with difficulties forming healthy relationships and engaging in healthy sexual behavior; then, we wonder why all of these broken men are grabbing a podcast mic.
The truth is we can’t “Me Too” and call for an end to toxic masculinity and patriarchy while trying to co-opt it. It’s time to stop championing toxic and predatory behavior knowing that it creates victims–regardless of gender, even if the behavior is legal.

Amber Rose is sharing her thoughts regarding her ex, Alexander “AE” Edwards, dating pop icon, Cher.
During her recent interview with Jason Lee for the Jason Lee Show, Rose opened up about where her relationship with AE stands and how she feels about his current romance with a partner 39 years his senior. The two, who broke up in 2021, share a son Slash, 4.
“I’m very happy that he’s with Cher because it creates stability for when [our] son goes over there,” Amber Rose said. “That it’s not all mayhem and stuff.”
The former College Hill star expounded, adding that she has no problems with their son spending time with the couple because she “doesn’t want” her ex romantically.
“He goes to Cher’s house?” Jason Less questioned. “So you’re definitely not the mom that’s like ‘You’re not going over there.’”
“Absolutely not, why would I do that?” the reality star responded. “Let’s be very clear — why would I ever be mad at her? I don’t want him. Somebody gotta tolerate him and it ain’t gonna be me, right? So I’m very happy that he’s over there with her because it’s stability for my son. The only thing that I ask is that you’re present, is that you’re a present father, you help me get him through private school.”
Edwards and Cher were first spotted together holding hands in November 2022 during Paris Fashion Week. In the wake of the photographs from that day, the two went public with their relationship, receiving heavy criticism for their 40-year age gap. Despite the backlash from some, the two have been spotted out on several date nights as the “I Got You Babe” songstress previously admitted they “just get each other.”
Amid their romance, Cher has advised all women to “go out with a younger man” at least once in their lifetime.

Cher joins the Rolling Stones with at least one new No. 1 on a Billboard songs chart in each of the seven decades from the 1960s through the 2020s (excluding any Bubbling Under rankings).
Cher scored her first No. 1 as half of Sonny & Cher, when “I Got You Babe” topped the Billboard Hot 100 dated Aug. 14, 1965.
In the 1970s, she logged a trio of Hot 100 No. 1s of her own: “Gypsys, Tramps & Thieves” in 1971, “Half-Breed” in 1973 and “Dark Lady” in 1974. She also claimed another No. 1 with Sonny, “All I Ever Need Is You,” on the Adult Contemporary airplay chart in 1971.
In the 1980s, Cher landed a pair of No. 1s on the Adult Contemporary chart in 1989 with “After All,” with Peter Cetera, and “If I Could Turn Back Time.” In the next decade, Cher returned to No. 1 on the Hot 100 with “Believe” in 1999, and it also crowned the Dance Club Songs tally. She notched two more No. 1s on the Dance Club Songs list that decade: “Strong Enough” and “All or Nothing.” (Cher additionally topped other Billboard rankings that decade, such as the now-defunct Hot Singles Sales and Dance Singles Sales charts.)
In the 2000s, Cher achieved three more No. 1s on the Dance Club Songs chart with “Song for the Lonely” (it also topped the Dance Singles Sales list) and “A Different Kind of Love Song” in 2002, and “When the Money’s Gone” in 2003. The following decade, she racked up further No. 1s on Dance Club Songs with “You Haven’t Seen the Last of Me” in 2011 and “Woman’s World” in 2013.
The Rolling Stones, meanwhile, began their streak of No. 1 songs in seven straight decades just a month before Cher, when “(I Can’t Get No) Satisfaction” hit No. 1 on the Hot 100 dated July 10, 1965. They most recently led a songs survey with “Living in a Ghost Town,” which ruled the Rock Digital Song Sales chart dated May 9, 2020.
Billboard’s Top Holiday Albums chart returns for the 2023 holiday season, with Cher’s Christmas album debuting atop the tally (dated Nov. 4). It’s the pop superstar’s first holiday collection. The 13-song set has a blend of classic tunes and newly written tracks, and boasts a starry lineup of guests in Michael Bublé, Cyndi Lauper, Darlene Love, Tyga and Stevie Wonder.

The new Nov. 4-dated chart will be posted in full on Billboard‘s website on Oct. 31.
The Top Holiday Albums chart will continue to be published on a weekly basis through early January of 2024, when it will dash away until the next holiday season. (The chart generally returns to Billboard’s weekly chart menu every October.)
The Top Holiday Albums chart ranks the 50 most popular seasonal albums of the week in the U.S. based on multi-metric consumption as measured in equivalent album units. Units comprise album sales, track equivalent albums (TEA) and streaming equivalent albums (SEA). Each units equals one album sales, or 10 individual tracks sold from an album, or 3,750 ad-supported or 1,250 paid/subscription on-demand official audio and video streams generated by songs from an album. For all chart news, follow @billboard and @billboardcharts on both Twitter and Instagram.
Cher’s Christmas earned 21,000 equivalent album units in the U.S. in the week ending Oct. 26, according to Luminate. Of that sum, album sales comprised 20,000, SEA units comprised a little under 1,000 and TEA units comprised the remaining negligible sum. The album was available to purchase as a digital download album and in four different CD variants (each with alternative cover art). A vinyl LP, on ruby red-colored vinyl, is scheduled for release on Nov. 17.
Cher also makes waves on the all-genre Billboard 200 chart, where Christmas bows at No. 32, marking her 14th solo top 40-charting album on the tally. Further, she becomes only the second woman, and third soloist, with a new top 40-charting albums in the 1960s, ‘70s, ‘80s, ‘90s, 2000s, ’10s and ‘20s. The only other acts to have achieved this feat are Bob Dylan, Barbra Streisand and The Rolling Stones.
The top 10 of the Nov. 4-dated Top Holiday Albums chart is dotted with familiar favorites, as the soundtrack to the Halloween-meets-Christmas film Tim Burton’s The Nightmare Before Christmas is No. 2, Pentatonix’s new The Greatest Christmas Hits debuts at No. 3, Bublé’s Christmas is No. 4 and Vince Guaraldi Trio’s TV soundtrack for A Charlie Brown Christmas is No. 5. The top 10 is rounded out by *NSYNC’s Home for Christmas (No. 6), Mariah Carey’s Merry Christmas (No. 7), Frank Sinatra’s Ultimate Christmas (No. 8), Nat King Cole’s The Christmas Song (No. 9) and Bing Crosby’s Christmas Classics (No. 10).
Among the artists that have new holiday albums dropping later this holiday season (or have recently released a new holiday set in the past month or so): Michael Bolton, Brandy, Jim Brickman, Ally Brooke, Bing Crosby, Jessie James Decker, Seth MacFarlane and Liz Gillies, Samara Joy, Johnny Mathis, My Morning Jacket, Oak Ridge Boys, Jon Pardi, Gregory Porter, Matt Rogers, Michael W. Smith, Straight No Chaser and The Tenors.

It’s better to have loved and lost than never to have loved at all.
Word on the street is that Cher, 76, and Alexander “AE” Edwards, 37, have ended their May-December romance. According to TMZ, they were also never even engaged despite multiple reports to the contrary.
Sources close to the former couple tell TMZ they ended things a few weeks ago, though it’s currently unclear what led to the relationship’s collapse or who first decided to end it.

The musical icon fueled rumors that the couple was engaged when she shared a photo of a massive engagement ring on social media around Christmas. She also later told the paparazzi that they were engaged, but it seems they were just having fun.
According to People, the couple met last September during Paris Fashion Week. Edwards has reportedly helped her with new music and supported her last year when she lost her 96-year-old mother.
Cher is considered the “Goddess of Pop” with a phenomenal career that spans five decades. The “Believe” singer is one Tony away from being an EGOT winner–considered the grand slam of the entertainment industry. She was formerly married to the late Sonny Bono and Greg Allman; she has a son with each.
Edwards is an executive at Universal Music Group and was previously linked to Amber Rose with whom he shares a son, Slash.
They couple was spotted on the red carpet together earlier this year.
Page Six reported:
Cher and the music producer looked smitten as they wrapped their arms around each other for photos. They both flashed cheerful smiles and flaunted their love for all to see.
Both wore head-to-toe Versace for the occasion, of course, with Edwards looking cool in all black; he paired a button-front jacket with a knit polo and dress pants, while the Goddess of Pop went glam in a metallic blue leather jacket embellished with studs and crystals layered atop a matching bondage-style catsuit and platform boots.
The couple’s loved-up outing marked the first time they walked a red carpet together, hinting that they are more serious than ever.

Cher is clearly living her best life. The renowned singer, 76, was spotted kissing her boyfriend, Alexander “AE” Edwards, 36, during their red carpet debut at the Versace show at Pacific Design Center in Los Angeles on Thursday, March 9.
Yeah, this is the same AE who was dating Amber Rose, and infamously cheated on her with multiple women. Back in late 2021, he even took to Instagram to plead for his family back.
Well obviously, Rose held fast and now AE is entangled with the famed singer who is over twice his age. You can’t make this stuff up.
