Hip-Hop has lost yet another MC this month. Broadway of Strickly Roots and of Boogie Down Productions fame has passed away.
As spotted on HipHopDX, one half of the Bronx duo is no longer with us. On Saturday, September 7 DJ Premier broke the bad news via his Instagram Story when he shared a video that featured the MC. Media personality Desus also acknowledged the performer on X, formerly known as Twitter. “rip broadway from strickly roots. bx mc, valley legend” he wrote.
Born Dion Barnes, Strickly Roots gained a buzz with their single “Beg No Friends” featuring Grand Puba and Fat Joe. The song would be played on local radio and the very influential Video Music Box show. Later in 1996, Broadway would go solo and release his single “Must Stay Paid” which was produced by KRS-ONE. Broadway was the son of Reggae singer Sugar Minott. At this time Broadway’s cause of death is unknown.

As well all know Lebron James is avid fan of Rap. Recently he made it clear that we should all watch out for Connie Diiamond.
As spotted on Vibe Magazine the Bronx talent has impressed one of the National Basketball League’s most prominent figure. This week the Los Angeles Lakers superstar co-signed her freestyle on Ludacris’ iconic “Move Bi***”. He reposted the effort to his Instagram Story saying “Man she bodied that sh*t!!! WHOA”. As expected the mention landed on her radar and she reposted the shout out. “THE KING SAID WHAT HE SAID” her caption read.
And LeBron James was the right, the Drill MC in fact did her thing lyrically. “Thinkin’ I owe ’em respect / Well, you better move, bi**h/ Tellin’ you now, I ain’t one to fool with / When they hit the corner, we get to duckin’ / And they airin’ the news clip / Disturbin’ the peace while we get to dumpin’ the heat / They softer than cool whip, I the elite.” Currently Connie Diamond is signed to Def Jam Records. Ludacris has yet to comment on the homage.

Nas EBK’s legal woes just took a turn for the worse. The rapper was recently arrested for second-degree murder in New York City.
As spotted on Complex the South Bronx native has been booked on some serious charges. Last week he was picked up for his alleged involvement in a shooting that occurred on Thursday, February 9 in the Times Square district of midtown Manhattan. Police say the artist, born Nasir Valenzuela, shot Idrissa Siby in the chest after a supposed argument. He was picked up by police Friday, March 10.
This is the second time this year the rapper has been in trouble with the law. Back in February EBK was arrested by U.S. Marshalls for making terrorist threats during a YouTube skit with fellow prankster Bubba100x; the same jokester who tried to get too familiar with Maino. In the video, Nas EBK was seen approaching Shoprite shoppers and asking weird questions and responding back by screaming. The goof got intense when he pulled a hat off an employee and eventually pulled out a knife and said “walk toward me again and I’ll violate you”.
Nas EBK has denied committing the murder via an Instagram post. “INNOCENT!! ONLY GOD CAN JUDGE ME !!! BE HOME SOON !! FREE DA GUYS !!” the caption read. He is currently being held at Bergen County Jail.
