It looks like the Los Angeles Lakers are putting father and son on pause. The team has assigned Bronny James to the G League.
As per NBC News the rookie will split his time honing his skills in a developmental division of the NBA. ESPN is reporting that organization will have the son of LeBron James join the South Bay Lakers. Originally launched in 2001, the G League serves as the National Basketball Association’s minor league. According to sources Bronny will still suit up in the purple and gold for Lake Show home games but will not travel with his father and the rest of the team so he can play for the G League.
This should not come to fans as a surprise as head coach JJ Redick made it clear this was the strategy for Bronny all along. “The plan for Bronny to move between the Lakers and South Bay has always been the plan since day one. [General manager] Rob [Pelinka] and I have talked about that. LeBron’s talked about that” he said to sports news network last month. While he made history by being the first NBA talent to play on the same team with his father, Bronny has only averaged about one point per game and a 16% shooting average in four games.
In 2023 he suffered a cardiac arrest during a basketball workout. He was soon admitted to the ICU at the University of South California and was treated by the medical staff. Bronny then underwent a procedure to treat congenital heart defect; months later he was cleared to play.

Are the Los Angeles Lakers father-son duo, LeBron and Bronny James, coming to Call of Duty as playable operator skins?
Like his son, Bronny, LeBron James is a gamer. He has his own PS5 DualSense Controller and has been featured as a playable character in the WB Games Interactive fighter MultiVersus.
Bronny and LeBron also starred in a hilarious television spot for PlayStation’s God of War: Ragnarok.
Now, for their next trick, there seems to be a very good chance the two professional hoopers will join the likes of Snoop Dogg, Nicki Minaj, and 21 Savage by having their own operation skins in Call of Duty.
The buzz all started when LBJ lobbied for his son, who was once a member of FaZe Clan, to have his own operator skin in Call of Duty on X, formerly Twitter, writing in a post, “Bronny just said he want his own “Skin”. @Activision @CallofDuty talk to me.”
When LeBron James calls you out, you have to respond, and the official X account for COD did respond with a GIF of The Replacer, writing, “We know Bronny is a shooter, let’s talk. First father son duo in NBA history. Could be a #CallOfDuty first too.”
The Replacer Has Been Busy
So maybe The Replacer will replace both Bronny and LeBron so they can play some Black Ops 6.
Adding more fuel to the speculation fire, notable Call of Duty news site CharlieIntel also took notice, dropping the “looking eyes emoji.”
This latest development comes after The Replacer stepped in for Angel Reese so she can play some Black Ops 6, speculating the Chicago Sky superstar will be involved in the next installment in the Black Ops franchise.
Bronny also won the Call of Duty two-minute drill at the NBA Summer League, so the young hooper’s involvement in the game could have been in the works for a minute.
We shall see how this plays out. The gallery below shows more reactions to LeBron and Bronny James possibly getting operator skins.

Bronny James’ parents are opening up about his cardiac arrest for the first time ever.
LeBron and Savannah James couldn’t help but get emotional about almost losing one of their most prized possessions, their son, Bronny James.
The emotional moment was captured for Netflix’s new sports docuseries, Starting 5, which follows LeBron James, Jimmy Butler, Domantas Sabonis, Jayson Tatum, and Anthony Edwards throughout the 2023-24 season.
“I think at the end of the day, it was just about us supporting each other and just being super grateful for the outcome,” an emotional Savannah James said in the episode.
The episode also shows LeBron and his mother, Gloria James, meeting with Erin, a USC medical staff member who immediately responded when Bronny collapsed on the court, saving the young hooper’s life.
“Shout out to the man above,” James, 36, said during the confessional segment as footage of Gloria and himself meeting Erin is shown. “And to the whole coaching staff, training staff, members of that program,” LeBron continued, calling Erin a “lifesaver, literally.”
“Erin performed CPR on Bronny when he went down,” LeBron said to his mother during the meeting.
LeBron said the university’s medical staff is “the reason Bronny is alive now and smiling and thriving and doing what any 19-year-old should be doing, and that’s living out their dream.”
What Happened To Bronny James
Bronny, who is now about to make his regular-season debut alongside his dad as a member of the Los Angeles Lakers, was diagnosed with “an anatomically and functionally significant congenital heart defect.”
He underwent successful surgery in August before beginning rehabilitation. He worked his way back on the court to make his collegiate debut, where his dad and grandmother watched and cheered him on.
During the episode, LBJ admitted to being nervous watching Bronny take bumps and run up and down the court, but the best moment for him was watching Bronny walk off the court after the end of the game and not be carried off on a gurney.
Starting 5 is now streaming on Netflix.

Bronny James may be in a self-admitted “slump” on the court at NBA Summer League, but his skills on the sticks are still sharp. Lebron James’ firstborn won the Call Of Duty Two Minute Drill, beating out some notable NBA gamers along the way.

The Los Angeles Lakers draft pick won the Second Annual Call of Duty Two Minute Drill at the NBA Summer League by finessing a last-second 84-83 victory over Charlotte Hornets forward Grant Williams. Reportedly, Bronny was playing Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III he eeked out his win just before the 8pm tournament deadline, defeating Williams and Bobi Klintman of the Detroit Pistons. The latter came in third with 77 points.
With the W, Bronny earned a $10,000 prize and a custom-made Call of Duty Two Minute Drill at the NBA Summer League Championship Belt. Bronny fans shouldn’t be too surprised since he one graced the cover of Sports Illustrated for his e-sports talents as a member of Faze Clan back in 2021.
Held over this past weekend (the first weekend of the NBA Summer League), over 60 NBA players participated in the Call of Duty Two Minute Drill in a winner take all format. Players also got a chance to preview the forthcoming Call of Duty: Black Ops 6. Those NBA ballers and gamers included Paul George, now of the Philadelphia 76ers, Chet Holmgren of the Oklahoma City Thunder, Jalen Williams of the Oklahoma City Thunder, and Trey Murphy (Wahoowa!, #iykyk) of the New Orleans Pelicans.

Bronny James’ name has yet to be called during the 2024 NBA Draft, but the chatter around LeBron James’ son, where he will land, and if the Lakers superstar will join the team that takes a chance on his seed is deafening.
Word around the NBA streets was that LeBron James was very gung-ho about playing alongside his son in the league, giving many teams the impression that if they draft Bronny, they could land LBJ in free agency.
According to reports, teams shouldn’t bet on that because Bron Bron has no desire to ditch the Los Angeles Lakers to hoop with his son.
The Athletic’s Shams Charania reports that James is telling teams not named the Lakers who believe their chances to sign him in free agency will increase if they draft Bronny “No, as of right now,” regarding leaving Los Angeles.
Yahoo! Sports reports the “as of right now” in his statement leaves enough wiggle room for teams to continue to continue working on a situation that would pique his interest.
Interest in Bronny James increased following his strong showing at the NBA Draft, and some people believe he could be drafted in the second round.
LeBron James Did Express In The Past He Wanted To Play With Bronny In His Final Season
Regardless of the chatter around Bronny James, the Los Angeles Lakers are still the front runners to resign James, who has a $51.4 million player option for the 2024-25 season, if they land a head coach LeBron James approves of and a third piece to compliment him and Anthony Davis.
LBJ’s new alleged stance on playing alongside his son starkly differs from his past comments.
He made his desire to play his final season as a teammate with Bronny, even saying he would sign with the team that drafts his son.
That changed after the Lakers were bounced out of the playoffs by the Denver Nuggets, with James telling people hooping with Bronny was no longer a priority for him.
As for Bronny James, a conversation is happening now that he doesn’t deserve the attention he is receiving. Some people believe the spotlight is on him because he is the son of arguably the greatest professional hooper not named Michael Jordan.
ESPN NBA analyst Kendrick Perkins has been very loud on the matter.
Now, Bronny knows that carrying the James torch is the main topic of discussion, but the young hooper has made it clear he doesn’t want anything handed to him because he is the son of LeBron James and wants people to judge him on his skills and what he does on the court.
“Everything that follows my dad, people just try to link me with that and all the greatness he’s achieved and I haven’t done anything yet,” Bronny told reporters. “So there needs to be that divide between Bronny and LeBron. I just want to let people know that my name is Bronny James and not being identified as LeBron James’ son.”
We hear you Bronny.

LeBron James is not pleased with the Los Angeles Lakers’ current struggles, stating that his son Bronny James can play for them “right now.”
The Los Angeles Lakers are on a concerning losing streak, and the frustration that their superstar LeBron James is feeling has prompted him to make a bold claim that his son Bronny, a freshman at the University of Southern California, could actually step in and help the team out immediately.
According to Claire De Lune of the Guardian, the 21-year veteran was not in a great mood after the Lakers lost 127-113 to the Memphis Grizzlies Friday (Jan. 5). When asked about the effects of winning the inaugural in-season tournament on the streak by a reporter, James bluntly responded, “I’m not thinking that far back in the past. It was just two games. We suck right now.” When teammate Austin Reaves asked him about Bronny’s game at USC the following day and if he’d be starting, LeBron stated it was time before adding, “he could play for us right now. Easy. EASY.”
Bronny James recently made his collegiate basketball debut over four months after suffering an episode of cardiac arrest last July. While playing limited minutes in seven games, the 19-year-old was averaging 6.7 points, 2.3 rebounds, 1.6 assists and 1.3 steals in 17.1 minutes.
When queried by the press before their most recent game against Stanford University, USC head coach Andy Enfield said of Bronny’s progress: “He’s a freshman, [and] this was his sixth game. He’s developing as a player and it’s nice to see and nice to watch. He’s a typical freshman but he had a little disadvantage over most freshmen where he was out for five months and had to come back in midseason. It’s very hard to do.”
LeBron has expressed wanting to play with Bronny as well as his brother Bryce in the NBA before he retires, even having the idea incorporated into a Beats by Dre commercial. Presently, a mock draft for 2024 conducted by CBS Sports analyst Kyle Boone has Bronny’s teammate, freshman point guard Isaiah Collier as the top pick. The consensus is that Bronny would be a solid player in the league, just not right away. Meanwhile, LeBron is putting up a terrific season at age 39, averaging 25.2 points, 7.3 rebounds and 7.4 assists per game.

Bronny James’ recent cardiac arrest has been diagnosed. The cause is being linked to a congenital heart defect.
As spotted on ESPN the son of LeBron James has been evaluated by medical professionals. According to a family spokesperson he paid a visit to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles and had separate follow-up appointments at the Mayo Clinic and the Atlantic Health-Morristown Medical Center in New Jersey. On Friday, August 25 the representative released a statement revealing their findings. “It is an anatomically and functionally significant Congenital Heart Defect which can and will be treated,” said Stephanie Rosa of the LeBron James Family Foundation. “We are very confident in Bronny’s full recovery and return to basketball in the very near future. We will continue to provide updates to media and respectfully reiterate the family’s request for privacy.”
According to the National Heart, Lung & Blood Institute congenital heart defects are “problems with the heart’s structure that are present at birth. They may change the normal flow of blood through the heart. Congenital heart defects are the most common type of birth defect, occurring in about one percent of live births in the United States.” The 18-year-old USC talent suffered the cardiac arrest on Monday, July 24. He was treated for three days at a local medical facility. The following evening he was spotted enjoying dinner with his family at a restaurant in Santa Monica.
Bronny James did not join his USC teammates during a tour of Europe earlier this month.
