Elton John Announces ‘Farewell Yellow Brick Road’ Book Chronicling Life on the Road, Final Tour

Elton John isn’t quite ready to take his final bow. The singer who retired from touring last year when he wrapped his epic Farewell Yellow Brick Road outing on July 8 announced on Wednesday (Jan. 24) that he will chronicle his half-century on the road in a book entitled Farewell Yellow Brick Road: Memories of My Life on Tour.

“I am incredibly excited to announce my new book, Farewell Yellow Brick Road: Memories of My Life On Tour, which goes behind the scenes on my final tour, from Allentown, PA, to Stockholm, Sweden and everywhere in between,” John wrote in an Instagram post revealing the technicolor cover, which finds him standing next to a psychedelic piano in a trippy forest.

“It’s been a beautiful journey creating this book and remembering the people and places that shaped an incredible chapter in my life,” he added. “As well as the stories and memories, not just from this tour but from throughout my career, I’ve included unreleased photography and memorabilia that I hope give you never-before-seen insights of my life on the road.” The 256-page book also includes behind-the-scenes pictures of the show’s stage design, John’s bespoke Gucci-designed wardrobe, snaps of celebrity guests and official tour photography.

A description promises that, “Readers will go on an epic visual journey through the Farewell Yellow Brick Road Tour while Elton reaches back in time to reflect on key moments in his astounding touring history and reminisces about the beginning of his career. Fans also get a rare glimpse at Elton’s personal archive of posters, sketches, and never-before-seen photographs and postcards.” The poignant forward was written by John’s husband and manager, David Furnish, CEO of the singer’s Rocket Entertainment and the creative director of the tour.

The book from Disney publishing imprint Hyperion Avenue is out on Sept. 24, with Rocket Club fan club members and anyone ordering the book through John’s official store slated to receive it two week early; click here to pre-order.

John’s farewell tour wrapped five years after launching — and being delayed several times due to the COVID-19 pandemic, illness and injury — with grosses of $939.1 million and 6 million tickets sold over 330 shows, according to Billboard Boxscore. The 76-year-old singer has said that he does not want to tour again, but noted he might play sporadic shows in the future.

The final North American show at L.A.’s Dodger Stadium was live streamed on Disney+ and featured guests Dua Lipa, Brandie Carlile and Kiki Dee and released as a concert film, Elton John Live: Farewell From Dodger Stadium. The movie recently earned John an Emmy for outstanding variety special (live), which earned the singer the coveted EGOT.

Britney Spears Thanks Fans for Crowning ‘The Woman in Me’ the Best Memoir of 2023 on Goodreads: ‘This Makes Me So Happy’

Britney Spears is finishing off 2023 with one more achievement on her resumé. On Thursday (Dec. 7), the “…Baby One More Time” singer took to Twitter to reveal that her memoir, The Woman In Me, received the fan-voted honor of best memoir and autobiography by the 2023 Goodreads Choice Awards.

“Thank you for naming my memoir, THE WOMAN IN ME, the 2023 Goodreads Choice Award winner for Best Memoir & Autobiography!!! This makes me so happy!!!” she shared. For those who still have yet to complete their reading list for the year, Spears added information on how fans can get their hands on a copy, digitally or otherwise: “If you haven’t yet … grab your copy in stores or at http://britneybook.com and listen to the audio book narrated by Michelle Williams wherever audiobooks are available !!!”

Spears’ memoir, released earlier this year on Oct. 24, quickly became a best seller. In the day following its arrival, Spears stated the book was “the highest selling celebrity memoir in history” within its first day on shelves. “And it’s only day 1 !!!” she added. “Thank you to the fans who have been so supportive !!! Love you all ? !!!” At the time of Spears’ comments, the memoir was No. 1 on Amazon.com’s list of most read and sold non-fiction books, and currently maintains the top spot as of publishing time.

The memoir detailed Spears’ relationship with Justin Timberlake — she wrote that the couple had an abortion amid claims he wasn’t ready to ready for fatherhood, and said that she cheated on him after he allegedly had affairs with other women. Following the pair’s breakup — which occurred over text — the “Gimme More” singer said in the book that Timberlake sent her a framed letter.

Other bombshells from the book included insight into her 55-hour marriage to Jason Alexander (according to Spears, she was “just honestly very drunk”), her fling with Colin Farrell (“We were all over each other, grappling so passionately it was like we were in a street fight”) and some of her most iconic pop culture moments, namely the star being the mastermind behind her “…Baby One More Time” schoolgirl outfit.

Quavo Releases Free ‘Huncho Farms Cookbook’ Just in Time for Thanksgiving

Quavo is ready to give back to families in need this Thanksgiving through the power of home-cooked meals. On Monday (Nov. 20), the Migos rapper released his new Huncho Farms Cookbook, and provided groceries to families in need.

The 32-year-old’s cookbook — which includes Thanksgiving-themed recipes for turkey, dressing, apple crisp and more — comes as an initiative between Urban Recipe, Atlanta Community Food Bank and Quavo’s own non-profit, Quavo Cares Foundation. The “Greatness” rapper appeared at Urban Recipe in Atlanta, Ga. on Monday for a special pre-Thanksgiving farmers market, in which 300 families received turkeys, groceries and other fresh produce ahead of Thanksgiving, in addition to hygiene products and a hard copy of his new book.

The event’s attendees also received a demonstration of the cookbook’s recipes being made onsite, to make replicating them at home that much easier. Photos from the event were posted to Quavo’s Instagram Stories on Tuesday (Nov. 21).

Speaking with the Atlanta Journal-Constitution at the farmers market, Quavo expressed the importance of giving back during this time of year and noted that it’s a special cause to him, given his own family history.

“It’s very important to give back,” he said. “We came from nothing, so it’s only right that we give back to the people that have nothing or have less. We just try to help the best way we can. This is just a small portion to the big things that we’re doing.”

LeVar Burton Has Smoke For Moms For Liberty Over Book Banning

Celebrated actor LeVar Burton threw some shade at the conservative Moms For Liberty group during a recent speech, causing the group to protest his words online.

On Wednesday (Nov. 15), LeVar Burton began his opening remarks as the host of the 74th National Book Awards & Benefit Dinner, which was held in New York City. “I had the tremendous honor of serving as the Master of Ceremonies for the 70th National Book Awards in 2019 and it genuinely means the world to me to join you all on this stage to celebrate the importance of literature to our shared culture, Burton began. “Before we get going, are there any Moms for Liberty in the house? Moms for Liberty? No? Good! Then hands will not need to be thrown tonight.”

The conservative group, who have made it their mission to advocate against books that have topics such as sexuality, race and gender being in school libraries, decided to take that as a threat by Burton and wrote as much in a post on X, formerly Twitter, soon after word of that part of the speech made the rounds on the Internet.

“American moms weep as a childhood favorite, Reading Rainbow, calls for physical attacks against us because we are protecting the innocence of our children,” the post began before calling Burton out by name asking him “why have you sunk so low? Threatening physical violence against women?” The post has gained traction among the right-wing media establishment and has also caught the attention of a few far-right personalities.

The Star Trek: The Next Generation actor has been highly vocal about supporting literary freedom. He replaced Drew Barrymore as the event host after the National Book Awards retracted their invitation to the television host in the wake of her decision to resume production of her show during the SAG-AFTRA strike. “On the home front, we are fighting for control of truth and how we interpret truth in this country,” LeVar Burton said during his speech. “Books are being banned, words are being silenced, and writers and others who champion books are under attack.”
