In the ninth episode of Billboard Unfiltered, Billboard staffers Carl Lamarre, Trevor Anderson, Damien Scott and Kyle Denis break down the top 10 best rap albums of all time and elaborate on why and how they earned their ranking. Damien Scott:All these callbacks that for someone who is reportedly so offline, he seems to know a lot about what people are doing online.

Kyle Denis:It’s just a fantastic freaking moment, a Nigerian-American country star with a No. 1 single.

Carl Lamarre:We went through 100-11 the last few weeks … the top 10!

There was some fireworks on the Fourth of July, seven o’clock Eastern time, courtesy of Mr. Kendrick Lamar officially dropping the “Not Like Us” video. It has 41 million views in five days on YouTube.

Trevor Anderson:That was only five days ago?

Carl Lamarre:Yep. Yeah.

Kyle Denis:Those numbers are nuts for, like, 2022.

Carl Lamarre:Yeah.

Trevor Anderson:I was trying to … I literally was try to think …

Kyle Denis:2024?

Trevor Anderson:Even better! 2024!

Kyle Denis:These videos don’t get played on YouTube like that anymore.

Carl Lamarre:Yeah. I think the only …

Trevor Anderson:I was trying to think of the last music video that really …

Carl Lamarre:I think “Houdini” because “Houdini” had like 20 (million) in a day.

Trevor Anderson:But I’m trying to think, I guess, like made an impact in a you know …

Carl Lamarre:A cultural …?

Trevor Anderson:I mean, even just ,like, though we’re waiting for this video to drop kind of moment.

Carl Lamarre:Yeah.

Damien Scott:Like, when the stills dropped, people were excited.

Carl Lamarre:Yeah.

Damien Scott:And I’ve never seen … I haven’t seen people that excited over music, video stills in I don’t know how long and that was crazy. Just seeing people being like, “Oh, man!” They were dissecting images of a video that they have no idea about.Watch the full video above!

In the eighth episode of Billboard Unfiltered, Billboard staffers Carl Lamarre, Trevor Anderson & Damien Scott run through Megan Thee Stallion’s new album, Camila Cabello’s C,XOXO and what they thought of Drake’s features. Additionally, the trio breaks down the highlights from the 2024 BET Awards, including Usher’s tribute and Will Smith’s first performance, along with other standout moments.Damien Scott:If this was just a 10-track album, it would have been like a…

Trevor Anderson:It would have been a 10/10? Album of the year?

Damien Scott:Classic record.

Carl Lamarre:It killed me knowing that you got two Drake records and they kind of were somewhat of a dud and then you come with a heater.

Trevor Anderson:I’m hoping we can take this and can continue going forward, build off this year and keep it going back.

Carl Lamarre:It’s been quite some time.

Damien Scott:Hey, hey!

Carl Lamarre:Just a little bit, everybody was doing their thing. Little vacays.

Trevor Anderson:Yeah. It’s that time of year.

Carl Lamarre:Yeah, BET.

Damien Scott:Skin tan, hair long. Smell like a vacation.

Carl Lamarre:I love that. You got a little tan on you, pop.

Damien Scott:A little bit.

Carl Lamarre:Alright!

Trevor Anderson:Oh, yeah. I forgot! Yeah! Well I know you were out in L.A. last week, obviously.

Carl Lamarre:Yeah I was in L.A. for BET.

Trevor Anderson:You can see…. I’m thinking of that Sexyy Red video with the…

Carl Lamarre:Oh she made it rain on me.

Trevor Anderson:Go check this out, if you haven’t seen Carl on the Billboard hip-hop social because what’s was the line?Watch the full video above!

In the seventh episode of Billboard Unfiltered, Billboard staffers Carl Lamarre, Trevor Anderson and Kyle Denis break down Kendrick Lamar’s Pop Out event and how Drake should navigate his next move after the show. They also dive into the new Verzuz and X deal, their favorite albums that have been released in 2024 in hip-hop […]

In the sixth episode of Billboard Unfiltered, Billboard staffers Damien Scott, Trevor Anderson and Kyle Denis dive into whether or not Kendrick Lamar will perform “Not Like Us” live at his one-day event, The Pop Out — Ken and Friends, on Juneteenth. They also talk about Rihanna’s continuous tease of R9, whether she’ll ever release it and why it’s taken so long. They break down Summer Jam’s cultural significance, how younger and older artists need to perform at music festivals and more!

Kyle Dennis:We got to keep the older guys on these stages because by and large, for the male side at least, they’re still better performers.

Damien Scott:I’m excited to see him, but I’m more excited to see him perform “Not Like Us,” and then see, like, a bunch of West Coast artists just go crazy.

Trevor Anderson:She said she’s coming back with R9. Are we foolish enough to hope that it’s coming anytime soon? Welcome back to a new episode of Billboard Unfiltered. Of course, I’m Trevor Anderson. Got a new face over here. Want to introduce Kyle Denis to y’all.

Damien Scott:Young shooter out here.

Trevor Anderson:He is one of the great wonder kids of his generation.

Trevor Anderson:Of course we got the goat, Damien Scott, here as well.

Damien Scott: D–n. Wonder kid. That’s a lot. Wow.

Trevor Anderson:Yo, yo, yo, Kyle’s got a name here. I’m telling you. He’s, you know, he’s got following. We know he’s got plenty of opinions, thoughts.

Kyle Denis:The price going up a little bit.

Trevor Anderson: I’m telling you, I’m telling you. So obviously a big week for us. Let’s dive right into it. Firstly, want to talk about something that happened a couple of days ago. Method Man out here talking after the Summer Jam performance, had a little bit to say on Instagram after that, saying that it wasn’t really his crowd at all.

In the fifth episode of Billboard Unfiltered, Billboard staffers Damien Scott, Trevor Anderson and Carl Lamarre break down Cardi B & Bia’s beef from verses to allegations made. They also discuss Eminem’s return to rap with “Houdini,” the backlash he’s receiving with the Megan Thee Stallion reference, and how his career has evolved with age. The trio also dives into Drake’s music post Kendrick feud and more!

Damien Scott:Cardi is so big. To me, her going on live and doing all this is like, it’s, like, so messy.

Carl Lamarre:Are you guys checking for an Eminem album 2024?

Damien Scott:Yeah. I listen to every Eminem album.

Carl Lamarre:Wow!

Trevor Anderson:Drake jumped that thing into the top 10.

Carl Lamarre:It slid pretty …

Trevor Anderson:We’re not talking about slides.

Carl Lamarre:We are back with a fresh episode of Billboard Unfiltered. We have Mr. Trevor Anderson back with us.

Damien Scott:Welcome back, Trev.

Trevor Anderson:Yo, what’s up? It’s pretty good to be back.

Carl Lamarre:How was Paris?

Damien Scott:Was it a vacation?

Trevor Anderson:Yeah, it was.

Damien Scott:Passport on pivot?

Trevor Anderson:Yeah, you know.

Damien Scott:As they used to say.

Trevor Anderson:

Yeah, but it was nice. It was a good time. I appreciate y’all. Yeah.

Carl Lamarre:This week, pretty formidable. You know, in terms of what we got going on. First off, Cardi B versus Bia. Cardi B last week, she jumped on GloRilla’s and Megan Thee Stallions remix for “Wanna Be,” had, you know, some things to say about Bia, which she threw a little bit of shots.

Damien Scott:Can you break down this beef? Do you understand how this beef started?

Carl Lamarre: So, I think, this is just like, guilt by association type s–t, because, you know, Bia’s team Minaj right? Team Nicki. So you know.

In the first episode of ‘Billboard Unfiltered,’ Billboard staffers Damien Scott, Carl Lamarre and Trevor Anderson discuss the Drake and Kendrick Lamar feud that has taken the hip-hop world by storm, J. Cole’s exit from the drama, Tommy Richman’s debut on the Hot 100 and more!

Carl Lamarre:Hey, hey! What’s going on, guys? Welcome to a fresh episode of ‘Billboard Unfiltered.’ Guys, we have a jam-packed episode as we’re gonna dive into arguably one of the greatest hip-hop battles we have seen of all time. Drake vs. Kendrick Lamar. Guys, I mean, I have not seen anything like this.

Damien Scott:It’s definitely the busiest battle ever.

Trevor Anderson:Yeah, just the drop, drop, drop, drop, drop, drop, drop, drop…

Carl Lamarre:I mean, they got us working overtime.

Damien Scott:Drake called it. He said drop, drop, drop, drop. That’s what n—as did.

Carl Lamarre:I’m curious to get your takeaways from the battle. I mean, obviously, we have not seen anything like this. Seven disses in a week, double digits in a month.

Damien Scott:That’s crazy.

Carl Lamarre:What are some of your biggest takeaways from this battle? I’ll start with you, Dame.

Damien Scott:My biggest takeaway is that these are two of our best hitmakers working today. I think people already knew Drake was a hitmaker. He’s our genre’s premiere hitmaker. I think people underestimated how good of a hitmaker Kendrick was just because Kendrick doesn’t drop that often. And when he does drop, you never know what you’re going to get with Kendrick. He can be going in a different, more personal direction, where he’s not really focused on the charts, or he can make an album like ‘DAMN.’ where it’s much more accessible. I think this shows that these two guys, I would say, are the best we got.Watch the full video above!
