Ariana Grande can not only say she’s a Billboard Hot 100 chart-topping singer, but also a founder of a PETA-approved beauty brand.

When it comes to makeup and skincare, it goes without saying that Grande is a trendsetter. As we become more aware of what goes into our products (and on our skin), making sure our beauty products are clean has been a trend that isn’t going away anytime soon.

The Best Tarot Cards: Ariana Grande Doesn’t Leave Home Without This Magical Deck

05/30/2023

Grande, though, has made it clear that her brand R.E.M Beauty is not just something she does on the side of filming Wicked and recording music. In fact, she takes pride in her beauty brand and even uses the products herself, as she showed in a recent TikTok debuting her tarot cards.

Soon, her products will be featuring PETA’s logo and be listed among PETA’s Beauty Without Bunnies list of products not tested on animals. This marks a major milestone, as the brand becomes one of more than 6,000 around the world to have banned all animal tests on their products, according to PETA. While R.E.M. beauty joins the growing list, there are still beauty brands that continue to test on animals, which PETA emphasized in a statement.

“Every cosmetics brand needs to break free from useless tests on animals, and thanks to Ariana’s fabulous cruelty-free line, R.E.M. beauty is now PETA-approved and leading the way,” PETA Senior Vice President Lisa Lange said.

For those new to the brand or if you just want to stock up on your favorites, Grande’s makeup products are available at Ulta Beauty or on the R.E.M. beauty website.

Here are just some of the bestselling R.E.M. beauty products that you can add to your cruelty-free makeup collection.

National Sunscreen Day is Saturday (May 27) but even outside of SPF’s special day, it’s important to lather on sunscreen — especially if you plan on attending outdoor festivals and tours. It may feel good soaking up that vitamin D, but too much exposure will turn that summer tan into a red hot sunburn.

No matter if it’s rain, shine, overcast or even partly cloudy, wearing a solid sunscreen will help keep your skin looking smooth and healthy. The last thing you want to deal with is sped up signs of aging or, in worst cases, skin cancer. That’s why Billboard spoke with with Dr. Angela J. Lamb, a board-certified dermatologist and associate professor of Dermatology to discover the best sunscreens (and even added a few of ours and celebrity favorites in there, too).

Before you go and stock your cart, Lamb gave some tips to keep in mind including how to know if the one you’re using is truly “the best.”

“I recommend something that will go on easily, feel good on people’s skin and permit them to wear make up on top if desired,” she said. Lamb added that you should also look for ingredients like oxide and titanium dioxide as “those ingredients are going to help the sunscreen work immediately when applied to your skin.”

And in terms of how often you should reapply sunscreen, that’ll depend on what you’re doing.

“If you are outside sweating or doing any sports, your sunscreen really needs to be reapplied approximately every 80 to 90 minutes,” she said. “If you really only spend a little bit of time outside — maybe to or from work during your commute — you can put on sunscreen in the morning, and maybe, if the sun is still out when you leave to go home, reapply or use [a] powder [sunscreen] to touch it up.”

Memorial Day beauty deals are already happening meaning you can score quality formulas at discounted prices. To help you upgrade your beauty routine and pack up essential festival gear, check below for the best sunscreens, according to a dermatologist as well as ours and celebrity favorites.

Amazon

Neutrogena Purescreen+ Tinted Sunscreen for Face with SPF 30

Amazon

Supergoop! Unseen Sunscreen SPF 40

For another Lamb pick, this Unseen Sunscreen from Supergoop is a lightweight formula that’ both water- and sweat-resistant for up to 40 minutes once applied. The texture is also clear allowing you to put it on without worry of leaving behind white streaks.

Black Girl Sunscreen

Black Girl Sunscreen Moisturizing Lotion SPF 30

Black Girl Sunscreen has garnered much earned attention for creating a quality SPF that’s fragrance free and long-lasting (like up to 80 minutes!). It’s even water resistant, allowing you to take a dip or sweat without needing to constantly reapply.

From Revlon to ConAir and Dyson, the world of blow dryers has expanded substantially in the last few years and having so many choices can actually make it easier to find the best option for your hair.

How do you find the best hair dryer? That usually depends on how much you can afford to spend, but finding the perfect blow dryer for your hair type can make a huge difference.

Take It From TikTok: You Can Get a Dyson Airwrap Dupe Right Now for Just $39

05/04/2023

Whether you have straight, kinky, coily, curly and even frizzy hair, you should expect to spend at least a couple hundred bucks for a high-quality hair dryer (think of it as more of an investment than a splurge).

RevAir‘s reverse hair dryer is designed different hair types and it’s built to last. The hair dryer uses patented reverse-air technology that dries, stretches and smooths your hair “3x faster than traditional methods by sending air in the natural direction of the cuticle.”

Available at Amazon and RevAir.com, the viral hair dryer was out of stock for several months last year but it’s back in time for Mother’s Day, Memorial Day and other shopping holidays. RevAir emits less heat than flat irons and traditional blow dryers, making it healthier for your hair, and it promises not to change your natural curl pattern.

RevAir

RevAir Reverse Air Dryer
$360 (with code: MOM10) $399 -8925% off% OFF

The $400 sticker price might be a bit shocking at first, but if you’re the type to get blow outs regularly, RevAir will save you money in the long run — and it’s on sale for Mother’s Day.

As we all should know by now, heat can have negative and positive effects on your hair. We use heat to straighten and dry our hair but it can also damage your follicles and cuticles.

Hair science can be complicated, but one thing to note is that hair has negative and positive ions, which is where ionic and ceramic hair dryers come into play. What’s the difference? Ionic hair dryers use lower temperatures and positive ions to break through water molecules, thus drying your hair faster.

Although ceramic dryers heat up quickly and evenly, they tend to be pricier than your average blow dryer. Ceramic hair dryers are recommended for fine hair or fragile hair, while ionic is recommended for thicker hair.

RevAir falls in its own category as it combines a vacuum suction method with a motor that “gently draws” moisture out of your hair without the excessive heat. The hair dryer features three heat settings, seven tension settings, and uniquely designed wands to protect your hair from breakage and cut down on drying time.

As usual, Rihanna looked stunning at a recent event for Fenty Beauty. While promoting new products and celebrating her brand’s partnership with Ulta, the 35-year-old Grammy winner stepped out wearing all white from head to toe, complete with a snug undershirt that showed off her baby bump.

The “Umbrella” singer, who’s currently expecting baby No. 2 with A$AP Rocky, took her monochrome moment very seriously, pairing her white denim jacket and skirt with matching heels, earrings and eyeshadow. Known for rocking looks that challenge the norms of maternity clothing, Ri chose a low-waisted skirt that proudly put her bump on display.

Photos and videos from the event were posted on Fenty Beauty’s official account Wednesday (April 12), along with clips of the mogul making a surprise onstage appearance to present her Glass Slipper gloss at the Ulta Beauty: Be Your Own Kind of Beautiful conference. “I had to see you guys in person,” she told screaming fans, later blowing a kiss to the crowd.

“You guys have been so supportive of the Fenty brand,” she continued. “Ever since we launched at Ulta Beauty, I wanted to show up in person and thank you.”

The outing comes just one day after RiRi gave fans a glimpse into her first Easter with her first child, an 11-month-old son she shares with Rocky. The musician posted photos of the little boy adorably petting baby bunnies and gnawing on colorful eggs, gushing, “Look at heeeeee!!!!”

Ulta’s 21 Days of Beaty sale is available online and in stores, although certain deals are only online and individual sales last for a single day. The 21 Days of Beaty sale ends on April 1.

Tula’s whipped face cream is designed to hydrate and nourish leaving the skin revived with improved firmness and locked in moisture to promote skin balance. A 1.5-ounce container of Tula face cream usually retails for $54 but you can buy it for just $27 at Ulta, if you act fast.

One of the many beauty essentials that TikTokers can’t seem to stop talking about is a drugstore powder foundation that you can buy on sale for less than $12.

L’Oréal Infallible Fresh Wear Powder Foundation has been going viral on TikTok for the last two years. Videos on the cult-favorite powder foundation have racked up 175.7 million views on TikTok alone — and we’re not even counting the number of Reddit threads, YouTube videos and posts on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.

This low-cost body makeup offers up to 24 hours of longwear foundation in pressed powder form. As the brand’s “most lightweight, breathable, longwear foundation” L’Oreal Infallible Fresh Wear Powder Foundation mattifies without the cakey residue.

It’s also waterproof, heatproof, sweatproof, suitable for every skin type — even acne-prone skin and oily skin — and available in 20 different shades including sienna, ebony and deep amber in addition to lighter shades like pearl, porcelain and ivory.

Walmart

L’Oreal Paris Infallible Up to 24H Fresh Wear Powder Foundation
$11.99

The powder foundation retails for $15 on L’Oreal’s website but you can save a few bucks by ordering it at Walmart for $11.99 and $12.79 at Ulta and Amazon.

L’Oréal Paris is no stranger to going viral. In January, the beauty giant’s Telescopic Lift Mascara became the talk of TikTok after a beauty influencer’s post about the mascara sparked controversy.

In other L’Oréal news, the brand has retooled its best-selling True Match Foundation. The new and improved L’Oréal True Match Super Blendable Foundation is made from a vegan, alcohol-free, oil-free, fragrance-free and non-comedogenic formula and available in more than 24 shades.

Grammy, Emmy and Oscar-winning singer H.E.R stars in a new commercial for True Match Super Blendable Foundation. The Bay Area native signed on as a global ambassador for L’Oréal Paris last year.
