Young Thug Released From Jail After Pleading Guilty | Billboard News

After pleading guilty to possession of drugs and firearms in his YSL RICO case and being in jail for more than 700 days, Young Thug has been released from jail. Keep watching to see the hip-hop community’s reaction and more about the case.

Tetris Kelly:
After more than 700 days behind bars, Young Thug is going home. And the hip-hop community is celebrating. Travis Scott was among the first of Thug’s peers to welcome the Atlanta rapper home on social media “My brudda on the way home,” as did T.I.: “Welcome Home lil bruddah, It’s been too long… Time to get back to it!!!”

Even Sexyy Red chimed in and wrote “THEY LET TWIN OUT!!!” in reference to their physical resemblance. Judge Paige Reese Whitaker sentenced Thug to 15 years of probation with no time to be served in prison.

Judge Paige Reese Whitaker:
I know you’re talented, and even if you choose to continue to rap, you need to try to use your influence to let kids know that is not the way to go.

Tetris Kelly:
Prior to the court’s ruling, Thugger addressed Judge Whitaker.

Young Thug:
I’m sorry. Through these last two years of my life, you are really, truly, honestly, the best thing that has happened to me. You have made everything fair for me and everybody involved on both sides. I’m sorry to everybody for just having to put extra time in. I know y’all get paid more money, but I’m sorry for y’all having to put the extra time in away from y’alls family, and I just hope, you know, that you find in your heart to allow me to go home.

Tetris Kelly:
Thug was arrested back in May 2022 alongside 27 others in a sprawling 56-count indictment for violations of Georgia’s RICO Act. He remained behind bars in the two-plus years since in what became the state’s longest-ever criminal trial.

BLACKPINK’s Rosé Set Chart Record In Australia

BLACKPINK’s Rosé is crowned on Australia’s singles chart for the first time, a feat that etches her name in the history books.

The New Zealand-born, Australia-raised superstar singer ends Sabrina Carpenter’s reign on the ARIA Single Chart, as “APT.” (via Atlantic/Warner), her collaboration with Bruno Mars, debuts at No. 1.

With that, Rosé becomes the first solo female K-pop star to top the ARIA Chart.

She’s just the second solo artist from South Korea to climb the chart ladder after PSY’s “Gangnam Style” spent six weeks on top back in 2012.

Born in Auckland and raised in Melbourne, Rosé (born Roseanne Park) made the move to South Korea aged 15, when the world of K-pop came calling. At her father’s suggestion, she auditioned for South Korean music company YG Entertainment. It was a shrewd move. The rest is music history.

BLACKPINK – comprising Rosé, Jisoo, Jennie and Lisa — smash records for fun. In 2022, BLACKPINK set the mark for the highest-debuting single by a K-pop group in ARIA Chart History when “Pink Venom” hit No. 1, beating the No. 2 start for BTS’ 2020 hit “Dynamite.”

BLACKPINK’s two studio albums, The Album (from 2020) and Born Pink (2022), both debuted and peaked at No. 2 on the Australian albums survey. In support of Born Pink, the pop group last year embarked on an east coast arena tour of Australia.

“APT.,” a reference to the Korean drinking game aparteu, or apartment in English, is the first single from Rosé’s debut album Rosie, which lands on Dec. 6. The track lands at No. 1 on both the Billboard Global 200 and Billboard Global Excl. U.S. charts, and arrived at No. 4 on the Official U.K. Singles Chart, setting a new record in the process.

In the United States, “APT.” powers to No. 8 on the Billboard Hot 100. That too is a history-making achievement; Rosé becomes the first female solo artist prominent in K-pop (Korean pop) to hit the top 10.

Tetris Kelly:

Megan Thee Stallion has filed a lawsuit against a YouTuber over lies about the Tory Lanez shooting case. Let’s dive in. You may have seen online a high-profile false story about the “Mamushi” rapper’s shooting case circulating on social media. Well, the superstar is taking legal action over a “campaign of harassment and cyberbullying.” In a lawsuit filed Wednesday, attorneys for the rapper accused Milagro Gramz of “carrying out a public campaign to denigrate, belittle, insult, and spread false statements” about her. Thee Stallion claims Gramz is a “mouthpiece and puppet” for Tory Lanez. They are alleging Gramz shared a pornographic “deepfake” of Meg – a move that Megan’s lawyers say violates a Florida statute. In a statement posted to X, Gramz acknowledged the lawsuit, saying she had “been informed that I’m being sued by Alex Spiro on behalf of his client Megan Thee Stallion.”

In a statement to Billboard, Megan has said, “I’ve endured countless attacks on my character based on false narratives from social media bloggers misrepresenting themselves as journalists. It is unacceptable behavior and these individuals need to understand there will be repercussions for recklessly posting lies and defamatory falsehoods.”

In addition to the confusion of their social media reports from fans throughout the U.K. have also pointed toward the band’s logo appearing on the side of Manchester’s Co-op Live arena, possibly suggesting a live return as well.

Trending on Billboard

Currently, the band have made no official statement in regard to a return, instead letting the rumor mill run rife.

Scissor Sisters first formed in 2000, going on to release a total of four records between 2004 and 2012, with 2010’s Night Work becoming their highest-charting record in the United States, reaching No. 18 on the Billboard 200 (its predecessor Ta-Dah hit No. 19 in 2006). In the U.K., however, the group received a far stronger response, with their first two albums reaching the top of the Official U.K. Albums Chart, and Night Work and 2012’s Magic Hour reaching No. 2 and 4, respectively.

In October 2012, the group announced their hiatus while performing in England, with a performance in Italy on Nov. 1, 2012 being their last live appearance to date. In 2017, the group reconvened somewhat, collaborating with MNDR on the track “Swerlk” to honor the one-year anniversary of the Orlando nightclub shooting.

In 2019, frontman Jake Shears reflected on the demise of the group, telling GayCities that the band’s decision to split came following the success of 2012’s “Let’s Have a Kiki”, which became their third song to top the Dance Club Songs chart.

“I didn’t know what the f— to say after that song, quite honestly,” Shears said in 2019. “When that song came out and did what it did … I was just like, ‘Well, there it is, I guess we did it.’

“I thought, we’ve been recording and touring for 10 years, and I felt like it was time,” he added. “This wasn’t what anybody in the band had planned to do. So I thought it would be fun to end on a high note.”

During his interview, Shears did hint at the future of the band, noting that the uncertainty of their hiatus would eventually be ended by an eventual return.

“That’s not to say we’re never going to do anything again,” Shears said. “The Scissor Sisters will be back.”
