The set, released Oct. 13 on Rimas, debuts at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 with 184,000 equivalent album units earned in its opening week, according to Luminate. It’s the fourth mostly- or all-Spanish-language album to top the chart, after Bad Bunny’s own El Último Tour Del Mundo (2020) and Un Verano Sin Ti (2022) and Karol G’s Mañana Será Bonito (February). All 21 songs from the collection also chart on the latest Hot 100. (The only other track billed on the set is “Europa :(,” which runs 11 seconds long.)

Luar La L makes his Hot 100 arrival with “Teléfono Nuevo,” with Bad Bunny. The song debuts at No. 32 with 12.3 million U.S. streams earned in its first week. It concurrently debuts at No. 8 on Hot Latin Songs, where it’s his second top 10. Before this week, the Puerto Rican Latin trap singer-songwriter charted three songs on Billboard’s rankings. His previous Bad Bunny collab, “100 Millones,” hit No. 9 on Hot Latin Songs, as well as No. 143 on the Billboard Global 200 in June 2021; his solo track “Caile” reached No. 43 on Billboard Global Excl. U.S. and No. 67 on the Global 200 in September 2022; and “Wait Deh Man,” with Darell, Nicky Jam and Wisin, reached No. 47 on Latin Airplay earlier this month.

Luar La L has released two solo LPs: L3TRA, in 2020, and sequel L3TRA 2, in 2022. He has also collaborated with Eladio Carrión, Farruko and Jay Wheeler, among others.

Bryant Myers has already tallied multiple Billboard chart hits, but he nets his first Hot 100 entry with “Seda,” with Bad Bunny. The song debuts at No. 38 with 11.4 million U.S. streams. It also starts at No. 10 on Hot Latin Songs, marking his first top 10.

Myers, from Carolina, Puerto Rico, first appeared on a Billboard chart in May 2016, when “Ella Y Yo” (by Pepe Quintana featuring Farruko, Anuel AA, Tempo, Bryant Myers and Almighty) debuted at No. 41, before reaching No. 36. Since then, he’s charted eight additional entries on Hot Latin Songs. Here’s a chronological recap, by peak date.

YOVNGCHIMI is a relative newcomer to Billboard’s charts, but lands his first Hot 100 entry this with “Mercedes Carota,” with Bad Bunny. The song debuts at No. 57 with 9.7 million U.S. streams. It also starts at No. 16 on Hot Latin Songs. The Puerto Rican drill and trap artist charted three tracks previously on Hot Latin Songs, all in 2022: “Diamantes En Mis Dientes” with Anuel AA (No. 41 peak), “Modelito,” with Mora (No. 42), and “La Ruta” with Arcangel (No. 45).

YOVNGCHIMI released his first studio album, Gangsta Grillz: Mvrda Gvng, with DJ Drama, in May.

De La Ghetto has forged a successful career on Billboard’s charts since the mid-2000s, but he’s now officially a Hot 100-charting artist for the first time, thanks to “Acho PR,” with Bad Bunny, Arcangel and Nengo Flow. The song debuts at No. 83 on the Hot 100 with 8 million U.S. streams earned in its first week of release. It also starts at No. 24 on Hot Latin Songs.

De La Ghetto first appeared on a Billboard chart in May 2006, when “Intro” with Naldo, Tommy Viera, Arcangel and Nengo Flow, debuted and peaked at No. 33 on Latin Rhythm Airplay. (Arcangel and De La Ghetto were billed as a duo at the time).

The Rock And Roll Hall of Fame-inducted artists ride the second wave of featured speakers for the 38th annual gathering, announced today (Oct. 24), with AMD Lisa Su chair and CEO confirmed as the first keynote speaker.

For the 2024 edition of SXSW, Chuck D will participate in the daytime session Def Jam Renewed: The Hip-Hop Legend’s Next 40 years, which includes speakers Tunji Balogun (chairman and CEO of Def Jam Recordings), Bryan Biniak (president of Songtradr and GM of Bandcamp) and rapper Lady London, for an exploration of the iconic hip-hop label’s roots, the decisions that have “propelled it to global recognition for its creativity, quality, and authenticity,” and more.

Also, Oates will discuss Fame, Fortune, and Managing A Hit Music Career, in a Q&A with Alex Heiche, founder and CEO of music finance firm Sound Royalties, which will trace the singer and songwriter’s hitmaking career.

“Every year at SXSW, we’re privileged to host leaders and trailblazers who have risen to the top of their fields through hard work, thought leadership, and passion for their craft,” comments Hugh Forrest, co-president and chief programming officer.

AMD’s Su is “an innovator who continues to pioneer advancements in the chip industry and new ideas that will accommodate the needs of quickly developing AI-related technologies.”

The 2024 SXSW Conference is organized into 24 programming tracks, including advertising & brand experience, artificial intelligence, climate change, creating film & TV, creator economy, culture, design, energy, music & tech, music careers, psychedelics and more.

As previously reported, British indie band Dry Cleaning, New York punk rockers Bodega, and Swedish alternative act Waterbaby lead the first round of showcasing artists tapped for the South by Southwest Music Festival 2024.

SXSW 2024 is sponsored by Porsche, C4 Energy, and The Austin Chronicle. The SXSW Schedule will launch online Oct. 31, providing a complete rundown of 2024 programming.

Established in 1987 in the Lone Star State, SXSW is both a conference and festivals extravaganza that celebrates the convergence of tech, film and television, music, education, and culture.

Today’s announcement closely follows the conclusion of the inaugural SXSW Sydney. Held Oct. 15-22, SXSW Sydney is a collaboration with TEG, the NSW Government and Destination NSW, and is the brand’s official Asia Pacific leg.

SXSW signed a “lifeline” deal with P-MRC, a joint venture between Penske Media Corporation and MRC, the companies announced in April 2021, making P-MRC a stakeholder and long-term partner with the Austin festival. P-MRC is the parent company of Billboard.

Perry hosted the tourney Sunday (Oct. 22) at Montecito Club in her hometown of Santa Barbara, CA, with a slew of high-profile pickleball players including Meghan Trainor, Rob Lowe, Kate Hudson and her partner Orlando Bloom.

“My mom brought (maybe even forced) her love for pickleball upon our family,” she writes on Instagram, “and now we’ve decided to use those pickle powers for good.”

All proceeds benefited Firework Foundation, founded in 2019 by Perry and her sister Angela Lerche, with a mission to empower children from underserved communities by “igniting their inner light through the arts.”

For the record, Eric Geeb and Brett Williams took the championship title, while Perry got her game on for a mic’d exhibition in which she and Federico Staksrud took on Bloom and Maggie Brascia. Team Katy took them out 13-11.

Celsius sponsored the VIP Players Lawn, while Stanley, The Pick, Malk Milk, CRBN and Selkirk were among the sponsoring brands for the debut event, produced by Ngoc Nguyen (Nguyen Strategies).

Money raised will go towards “scholarships, more camps, and programming to bring the arts to kids from underserved communities,” Perry explains.

The pop superstar is currently in her sixth consecutive season as a judge on American Idol and, simultaneously, performing her Las Vegas residency, PLAY.

In 2011, she became the first woman, and second artist overall following Michael Jackson, to land five No. 1s on the Billboard Hot 100 from an album. That album, Teenage Dream, is one of her three leaders on the Billboard 200 chart. All told, she has scored nine leaders on the Billboard Hot 100 and she was the first artist in RIAA history to earn three RIAA Diamond Song Awards – for three of those No. 1s, “Firework,” “Dark Horse” and “Roar.”

Bad Bunny is back with another huge week on Billboard’s charts. On top of scoring his third No. 1 album on the Billboard 200 (dated Oct. 28) with Nadie Sabe Lo Que Va a Pasar Mañana, all 21 songs from the set chart on the Billboard Hot 100, including 10 in the top 40.
The LP launches atop the Billboard 200 with 184,000 equivalent album units earned in its opening week (Oct. 13-19), according to Luminate. As Bad Bunny debuts 19 songs, he ups his career total to 93 career Hot 100-charting entries. That’s the 18th-most among all acts in history, and he extends his record for the most among artists who primarily record music in a language other than English.

“Monaco” becomes Bad Bunny’s 12th career Hot 100 top 10, also padding his mark for the most among acts core to the Latin genre.

Meanwhile, thanks to their credits on the album, Luar La L, Bryant Myers, YOVNGCHIMI and De La Ghetto all score their first appearances on the Hot 100.

Kenya Grace is no stranger to the U.K. chart summit.
The South Africa-born, U.K.-based artist enters a second week at No. 1 with “Strangers” (via FFRR), her breakthrough, drum ‘n’ bass-backed tune and first through a major label.

“Strangers” is, once again, the most-streamed track in the U.K. with 4.8 million plays, the Official Charts Company reports, as it holds off the challenge of Cassö’s “Prada” (Ministry of Sound) featuring RAYE and D-Block Europe.

The leader at the midweek point, “Prada” finishes the week at No. 2, less than 800 chart units adrift.

As previously reported, Grace is just the second U.K. female artist ever to write, produce and record a No. 1 single entirely by herself, following Kate Bush whose “Running Up That Hill” completed a mission impossible last year, hitting the top some 37 years after its initial release.

Tate McRae’s “Greedy” (Ministry of Sound) rounds off an unchanged top 3.

Meanwhile, another South African artist is making her move on the Official U.K. Singles Chart — Tyla. Born and raised in Johannesburg, Tyla (full name: Tyla Laura Seethal) enjoys a new peak with her breakthrough “Water” (RCA), rising 7-4.

Close behind is Chase & Status, Bou, Flowdan, IRAH, Trigga and Takura’s “Baddadan” (EMI), up 11-5 for its peak position, while Sonny Fodera, MK and Clementine Douglas’ “Asking” (Solotoko) is up 10-7, a new high.

U.S. alternative pop artist Mitski enjoys her first U.K. top 10 single with “My Love Mine All Mine” (Dead Oceans), improving 13-8. Prior to her latest, viral number, Mitski had never even nudged the singles tally, though two of her seven studio albums have impacted the top 10.

Fred Again snags a second top 20 solo sentry with “Ten” (Atlantic), featuring U.S. artist and songwriter Jozzy. It’s new at No. 16, for the highest debut on the latest tally, published Friday, Oct. 20. That’s the fifth top 40 entry for the hot producer and artist, and the first appearance on the chart for Jozzy.

Finally, Troye Sivan enjoys a hattrick of top 40 appearance on the latest chart, led by “One Of Your Girls,” new at No. 17, followed by lead single “Rush” (34-28) and “Got Me Started” (reentering at No. 36), lifting his career tally to seven U.K. top 40 singles.

All three tracks appear on Sivan’s third and latest LP Something To Give Each Other (via Polydor), which debuts at No. 4 on the national albums tally, for a new career high.

Ren scores his first U.K. No. 1 as Sick Boi, his independently released sophomore album, starts at No. 1.
The Welsh hip-hop artist (full name: Ren Erin Gill) times his chart race to perfection, overcoming a midweek deficit to Rick Astley’s ninth studio album Are We There Yet? (BMG), before putting on the afterburners to roar home in first place.

In the end, it wasn’t even close. Sick Boi had opened-up a 6,000-unit advantage when the Official U.K. Albums Chart was published Oct. 20, thanks in part to a “spectacular push” in the final 24 hours of the cycle, the Official Charts Company reports.

Sick Boi is released through The Other Songs, founded five years ago by brothers Alastair and Billy Webber, formerly of Island Records and Warner Records, respectively, according to the OCC. It’s the indie entertainment company’s first ever U.K. top 10.

Ren’s crown “sees him join a long list of Welsh album chart-toppers,” notes OCC CEO Martin Talbot, “from Tom Jones, Bonnie Tyler and Shakin’ Stevens to Manic Street Preachers, Stereophonics and Duffy, among many others – should not be under-estimated, especially given that it’s been achieved as a wholly-independent artist.”

Astley, meanwhile, misses out on collecting a third leader with Are We There Yet?, which arrives at No. 2. It’s the Brit’s seventh top 10 appearance on the national albums tally.

The previous week’s leader, Drake’s For All The Dogs (OVO/Republic Records), slips 1-3.

Also new to the Official Chart this week is Troye Sivan’s Something To Give Each Other (Polydor), bowing at No. 4. That’s a U.K. career high for the Aussie pop artist, eclipsing 2015’s EP Wild (No. 5 peak) and 2018 LP Bloom (No. 8), for his third top tier slot. Something To Give Each Other is the week’s best-seller on wax in the U.K.

Completing the top 5 is 2022 BRITs Rising Star winner Holly Humberstone with Paint My Bedroom Black, her first full length effort. It’s new at No. 5.

Mike Skinner’s The Streets lands its seventh U.K. top 10 album with The Darker the Shadow (Rhino), new at No. 7, while British blues act When Rivers Meet, the husband-and-wife duo of Grace and Aaron Bond, snag a first top 10 album appearance with Aces Are High (One Road), new at No. 9.

Further down the list, new releases from Scouting for Girls (A Place We Used to Meet at No. 17 via Sony Music CG), CMAT (Crazymad, for Me at No. 25 via Cmatbaby), Creeper (Sanguivore at No. 29 via Spinefarm) and Death of Guitar Pop (Be Lucky at No. 30 via Ska Club Essex) make an impression.

SYDNEY, Australia — Veteran Sounds Australia executive producer Millie Millgate will lead Music Australia as its founding director.
Following a months-long recruitment process, Millgate joins Music Australia, which is established to support and promote the Australian contemporary music industry, with a remit to increase discoverability and develop markets and audiences.

With Millgate at the helm, Music Australia will be expected to invest in and stimulate a vibrant and sustainable music industry ecosystem.

The Music Australia gig is a “once in a generation opportunity,” admits Millgate in a statement, “and I am truly honored, excited, and ready to embrace the challenges and lead the change required to shape and grow a flourishing and sustainable industry.”

Music Australia sits under Creative Australia – formerly the Australia Council for the Arts – and was established under the Creative Australia Act 2023, which was enshrined into law in June.

Through her tireless work leading Sounds Australia, and the countless airmiles clocked up in its mission to build bridges for Australian artists globally, Millgate “is a well-known and highly respected figure in the Australian contemporary music industry,” comments Adrian Collette, CEO of Creative Australia.

Together with the “exceptional skills and experience of the Music Australia Council,” he continues, “we will create a bright future for artists and the music industry in Australia.”

During her nearly-15 years with Sounds Australia, Millgate managed the presentation of over 2,200 Australian artists on global show stages since 2009, covering 86 different international events, in 75 cities, across 26 countries.

Prior to taking the reins at Sounds Australia, Millgate held executive posts with the Association of Artists Managers and as creative director for MusicNSW, and she has served on several boards and committees, and including a current position as director on the board of music industry charity Support Act.

Australia’s music industry warmly welcomed Millgate’s appointment.

We will rally behind Millie in any way we can, and I urge everyone with a vested interest in Australian music to do the same. Her success will be the industry’s success.”

Adds Dean Ormston, CEO of APRA AMCOS: “I’m so excited for Millie, and for the industry, that she’ll be heading up Music Australia. Millie has big ideas, a big heart, the respect of the industry, and the drive and determination to make big things happen. Millie’s appointment as the inaugural head of the agency is a testament to her dedication and vision over many years.”

Music Australia is an Australian Government initiative of the National Cultural Policy: Revive, launched in January of this year by the prime minister Anthony Albanese.

The Music Australia Council, effectively the Music Australia board, which includes legendary concert promoter Michael Chugg and Future Classics founder and CEO Nathan McLay, gathered Sept. 20 for its first meeting.

The Sounds Australia team salutes its outgoing leader. “It’s been an honor and privilege to work with her, and she’s inspired us every day with her passion, leadership and unwavering belief that Australian artists are truly some of the best in the world,” the industry organization comments. “The future of our industry is bright and we are so excited to see what she will do with Music Australia.”
