Foo Fighters score a chart-topping triple on Billboard’s rock radio charts as “Under You” ascends to No. 1 on the Rock & Alternative Airplay, Alternative Airplay and Mainstream Rock Airplay lists dated Sept. 30. Thanks to the new champ, the Dave Grohl-fronted group extends its record for the most leaders on Rock & Alternative Airplay.

“Under You” climbs from No. 2 to crown Rock & Alternative Airplay following a 13% jump to 7.5 million in audience in the week ending Sept. 21, according to Luminate. With the rise, it ends the 20-week reign of Linkin Park’s “Lost,” which tied the Foo Fighters’ own 2011 hit “Rope” for the second-longest reign in the chart’s history. The pair trails only Imagine Dragons’ “Radioactive,” which dominated for 24 weeks in 2013, as the title with the most weeks at No. 1 since the list began in 2009.

As “Under You” hits the top, it extends the Foos’ record for the most No. 1s by any artist on the Rock & Alternative Airplay chart, which reflects reach on all rock formats. Here’s a look at the current standings:

11, Foo Fighters6, Cage The Elephant6, Green Day6, twenty one pilots5, The Black Keys5, Imagine Dragons

On Alternative Airplay, “Under You” likewise advances from the runner-up rank to lead the list. The coronation comes after a 6% increase in weekly plays that made the single the most-played song on U.S. monitored alternative rock radio stations in the week ending Sept. 21. The new champ secures Foo Fighters their 12th No. 1 on Alternative Airplay, lifting the band into a three-way tie with Green Day and Linkin Park for second place on the overall count. Red Hot Chili Peppers, with 15 leaders, claim top honors.

(Earlier this month, Foo Fighters were revealed as the No. 1 act upon the Alternative Airplay chart’s 35th anniversary.)

Plus, “Under You” jumps 4-1 to capture the top slot on Mainstream Rock Airplay thanks to a 13% surge in weekly plays that translates to the song’s status as the most-played track on U.S. monitored mainstream rock radio stations for the week. The new No. 1 pushes Foo Fighters to their 13th chart-topper on the radio ranking, matching them with Van Halen for a joint share of the fourth-most among all acts since the list launched in 1981. Shinedown heads the leaderboard with 18 No. 1s, with Three Days Grace (17) next up and Five Finger Death Punch (14) third.

“Under You” appears on Foo Fighters’ latest LP, But Here We Are, released in June. The set (the band’s first studio effort since the death of drummer Taylor Hawkins in 2022) topped the Alternative Albums chart for one week, peaked at No. 2 on Top Rock & Alternative Albums and became the band’s 10th top 10 on the all-genre Billboard 200.

Kylie Minogue won’t be beaten in the race to No. 1 in the U.K.
Australia’s “princess of pop” races to the lead on the midweek chart with Tension (via BMG), her 16th studio album, which is currently outselling the rest of the top 20 combined, the Official Charts Company reports.

When the Official U.K. Albums Chart is published late Friday, Sept. 29, Kylie should have her ninth U.K. No. 1, across a career spanning 35 years.

Along the way, Kylie has set several chart records.

Tension is the followup to 2020’s Disco, which debuted at No. 1, making Minogue the first female artist to score a leader on the U.K. albums chart in five consecutive decades, doing so in the 1980s, ‘90s, ‘00s, 2010s and ‘20s.

The first track from her latest album, “Padam Padam,” recently peaked at No. 8 on the Official U.K. Singles Chart, completing a run of top 10 hits that spans five decades –1980s, 1990s, 2000s, 2010s and ‘20s.

The only other female solo artists to land top 10 hits in five consecutive decades are Cher, Diana Ross and Lulu, who each achieved the feat in the 1960s, 1970s, 1980s, 1990s and 2000s.

Meanwhile, Olivia Rodrigo’s sophomore LP Guts (Geffen) will drop to No. 2 following two weeks at the U.K. summit, while Doja Cat’s fourth and latest studio album Scarlet (Ministry of Sound) is set to arrive at No. 3.

Rounding out the top five on the chart blast are Headie One and K-Trap’s new collaborative mixtape Strength To Strength (One Thousand8), at No. 4; and Scottish alternative rock veterans Teenage Fanclub with Nothing Lasts Forever (Pema), new at No. 5. If Teenage Fanclub’s new record holds its spot, it’ll give the band their highest-charting album in 26 years, since 1997’s Songs from Northern Britain reached No. 3. Nothing Lasts Forever should become Teenage Fanclub’s 10th U.K. top 40 album.

Finally, North London experimental artist Baker (real name: Abubakar Baker Shariff-Farr) is cooking up a first-ever top 10 with Halo (Black Butter), predicted to bow at No. 8. Baker’s previous best was No. 31 for 2022’s Nobody’s Home.

Doja Cat is still top cat on the U.K. singles chart, but she’s facing stiff competition.
The U.S. singer, rapper and producer’s hit “Paint the Town Red” (via Ministry of Sound) leads the midweek chart, and is on track for a fourth consecutive week at No. 1.

Victory is not guaranteed.

Based on sales and streaming data published by the Official Charts Company, Kenya Grace’s “Stranger” (FFRR) is close behind, lifting 3-2, ahead of Olivia Rodrigo’s “Vampire” (Geffen), down 2-3.

Born in South Africa, based in Britain, Grace’s breakthrough drum ‘n’ bass leaning number is her first through a major label. And she’s posing a real challenge to the leadership, blasting 20-2 in less than a month.

Further down the chart blast, another track from Doja Cat’s fourth and latest album, Scarlet, is set to enter the top 40; “Agora Hills” is forecast to arrive at No. 35.

English singer and songwriter Tom Odell could have the week’s highest new entry with “Black Friday” (Urok). It’s new at No. 17 on the Official Chart Update, for what should be his fourth U.K. top 40 (Odell has a U.K. No. 1 album to his name, with his 2013 debut Long Way Down).

U.S. pop-punk heroes Blink-182 are back, and they’re heading for a highest-charting single in two decades. The title track from the trio’s forthcoming ninth studio album is set to start at No. 21 on the chart, based on midweek data. ONE MORE TIME (via Columbia) is due out on Oct. 20 via Columbia Records, and sees the classic lineup reunite with singer/guitarist Tom DeLonge for the first time since 2011.

“One More Time” should be the trio’s 12th U.K. top 40 single, and best performer since “I Miss You” hit No. 8 back in 2004.

Also, new singles from Nines (“Daily Duppy” featuring GRM Daily at No. 25 via Zino) and a hip-hop team-up of Headie One, K-Trap and Clavish (“Triple Threat” at No. 31 via One Thousand8) are eyeing top frame berths.

All will be revealed when the Official U.K. Singles Chart is published late Friday, Sept. 29.

Doja Cat is unmoved from the U.K. singles chart crest, where “Paint the Town Red” (via Ministry of Sound) enters a third week at No. 1.
Lifted from the U.S. singer, rapper and producer’s fourth studio album Scarlet, which dropped last Friday, Sept. 22, “Paint the Town Red” was the U.K.’s most-streamed song during the latest cycle, with 6.2 million plays, the Official Charts Company reports.

The leader at the midweek stage, “Paint the Town Red” holds off Olivia Rodrigo’s former leader “Vampire” (Geffen), which is unchanged at No. 2.

Meanwhile, South Africa-born, U.K.-raised singer, songwriter and producer Kenya Grace is rising fast with “Strangers,” up 12-3 in its third week on the tally, published late Friday. “Strangers” is Grace’s major label debut, via Warner Music sublabel FFRR, and first single to impact the Official U.K. Singles Chart.

Tate McRae has the highest debut this week with her viral number “Greedy” (Ministry of Sound). It’s new at No. 8, for the Canadian artist’s third U.K. top 10 single. Previously, McRae landed at No. 3 with 2020’s “You Broke Me First” and at No. 8 with 2022 Tiësto collaboration “10:35”.

Also completing a top 10 start is Drake and SZA’s collab “Slime You Out” (OVO/Republic/RCA), new at No. 10. Taken from Drake’s forthcoming eight studio album For All the Dogs, “Slime You Out” is Drake’s 41st U.K. top 10 single, and SZA’s fourth. It’s one of two SZA songs in the top 40; “Snooze” (RCA/Top Dawg) leaps 48-18, a new peak, following the release of a new acoustic cut with Justin Bieber.

Johannesburg, South Africa-born Afrobeats artist Tyla makes a splash on the U.K. top 40 for the first time with “Water” (Epic/Fax), rising 55-24.

Finally, drum ‘n’ bass veterans Chase & Status bag a new top 40 entry with “Liquor & Cigarettes” (EMI), a team-up with English producer Hedex and rapper ArrDee. It’s new at No. 31 for Hedex’s first-ever top 40 placing, ArrDee’s ninth, and Chase & Status’s 11th.

Australians just love Olivia Rodrigo‘s Guts.
The U.S. pop phenomenon’s sophomore album starts a second consecutive week at No. 1 on the ARIA Chart, holding off LPs by The Weeknd (The Highlights unchanged at No. 2 via Universal) and Taylor Swift (1989 up 9-3 via Big Machine/Universal).

Rodrigo just misses out on a chart double, again, as Guts (via Geffen/Universal) track “Vampire” holds at No. 2 on the ARIA Singles Chart, behind Doja Cat’s “Paint The Town Red.”

The top new entry on the albums tally belongs to Teddy Swims (real name: Jaten Dimsdale), whose debut I’ve Tried Everything But Therapy (Part 1) (via Warner) bows at No. 4. The Atlanta, GA vocalist completed a national headline tour last month, produced by Frontier Touring.

The current ARIA top five is completed by Travis Scott’s former leader Utopia (Epic/Sony), down 3-5.

Also new to the top frame is Jared Leto’s Thirty Seconds To Mars with It’s The End Of The World But It’s A Beautiful Day (Concord/Universal), new at No. 9. The U.S. alternative rock outfit’s career-best chart position in Australia is a No. 4 peak for 2013’s Love, Lust, Faith And Dreams.

Further down the list, Mitski lands her second title on the ARIA Chart with The Land Is Inhospitable And So Are We (Dead Oceans/Inertia), new at No. 13. The Japanese-American artist previously cracked the top 10 with 2022’s Laurel Hell, peaking at No. 7.

U.S. rapper Sleepy Hallow, meanwhile, bags his first appearance on the ARIA Chart with Boy Meets World (RCA/Sony), his second studio LP. It’s new at No. 32.

Over on the national singles tally, published Friday, Sept. 22, Doja Cat’s “Paint The Town Red” (via RCA/Sony) enters a fifth week at the summit. “Paint The Town Red” is lifted from the U.S. artist and producer’s fourth solo studio album Scarlet, which arrived earlier today.

The top five is completed by Swift’s “Cruel Summer” (up 4-3), Morgan Wallen’s “Last Night” (up 5-4 via Republic/Universal) and Tate McRae’s “Greedy” (RCA/Sony), new at No. 5 for the week’s top debut. That’s a career high for the Canadian artist, whose previous best was No. 7 in 2020 for “You Broke Me First.”

Kenya Grace’s “Strangers” (Warner) is making a strong connection with Australian audiences. The South Africa-born, U.K.-based artist’s major label debut bounces 30-6 in its third week on the survey.

Finally, Drake and SZA’s “Slime You Out” (Universal) slides to No. 12 on debut.

Move over Olivia Rodrigo, Busted wants its chart crown.
The British pop punk act leads the midweek U.K. chart with Greatest Hits 2.0, a 20th anniversary collection of the trio’s works, which includes a “Guest Features Edition” with cuts reworked by the likes of Jonas Brothers, All Time Low, Simple Plan, Dashboard Confessional, Hanson and You Me At Six.

With Greatest Hits 2.0, Busted, comprising Charlie Simpson, Matt Willis and James Bourne, should nab a fourth U.K. top 10 appearance, a list that includes three No. 2 peaks (Busted from 2002, A Present for Everyone from 2003 and Half Way There from 2019). The band has landed four U.K. No. 1 singles, but, until now, never topped the albums survey.

Rodrigo’s Guts powered to No. 1 last Friday, Sept. 15 with the year’s healthiest first-week numbers, for her second leader. Guts dips to No. 2 on the chart blast.

Mitski is on track for a career-best chart spot with The Land is Inhospitable and So Are We, the American singer and songwriter’s seventh studio album. It’s set to drop in at No. 3, for what would be Mitski’s second top 10 appearance, after 2022’s Laurel Hell peaked at No. 6.

Meanwhile, Slipknot frontman Corey Taylor could bag his first solo U.K. top 10 with CMF2, new at No. 4 on the chart blast. It’s the followup to 2020’s CMFT, which reached No. 11. As a member of Slipknot, Taylor has three No. 1 albums: 2001’s Iowa, 2019’s We Are Not Your Kind and 2022’s The End So Far.

Jared Leto’s Thirty Seconds to Mars is flying to a third top 10 with It’s the End of the World, the U.S. alternative rock band’s sixth studio release. It’s new at No. 5 on the Official Chart Update, and could equal or better 2013’s Love, Lust, Faith and Dreams (No. 5 peak) and 2018’s America (No. 4).

Rock And Roll Hall of Fame-inducted group the Pretenders should scoop a seventh U.K. top 10 album with Relentless, new at No. 7 on the chart blast. If it stays on target, it’ll give Chrissie Hynde and Co. their highest-charting album since 1994’s Last of the Independents, which peaked at No. 8.

Also eyeing a top 10 berth is Ash, the Northern Irish independent band whose eighth studio album Race the Night is set to start at No. 8. Race The Night could become the rockers’ sixth U.K. top 10 collection and highest-charting LP since 2004’s Meltdown went to No. 5.

Steve Hackett’s Foxtrot at Fifty + Hackett Highlights: Live in Brighton could become the guitar hero’s best U.K. chart appearance in more than 40 years. It’s on course for a top 10 debut, at No. 10, for what would be Hackett’s first top tier solo effort since 1980’s Defector peaked at No. 9.

Also impacting the midweek top 40 are LPs by Madison Beer (Silence Between Songs at No. 12), Demi Lovato (Revamped at No. 20), Sleepy Hallow (Boy Meets World at No. 29), The Bites (Squeeze at No. 30) and Sugababes (The Lost Tapes at No. 39).

All will be revealed when the Official U.K. Albums Chart is published late Friday, Sept. 22.

Kenya Grace’s viral track “Strangers” is taking the elevator on the U.K. chart.
Based on sales and streaming data gathered from the first 48 hours in the chart week, “Strangers” is set for a podium finish; should it hold its early position when the chart proper is presented, “Strangers” would finish at No. 3.

It’s been a strange month for the British artist as her breakthrough hit opened at No. 20 on the Official U.K. Singles Chart, for her first appearance on the national tally. Last Friday, Sept. 15, the single rocketed to No. 12.

Olivia Rodrigo is crowned on the U.K. albums chart as Guts (Geffen) flies to No. 1.
At the midweek point, Guts had what appeared to be an unassailable lead, capturing 33,000 combined sales. That proved to be the case when the Official U.K. Albums Chart was published late Friday, Sept. 15, with Guts cruising to the top with 60,300 chart units, the Official Charts Company reports. Not only was Guts the best-selling and most-streamed album of the latest chart cycle, it outsold the rest of the top 10 combined for the biggest first-week tally for any LP in 2023.

Rodrigo is now a perfect two-from-two. Her debut from 2021, Sour, spent five weeks at the summit and racked up a handful of U.K. chart records. When Sour and “Good 4 U” reached No. 1 in the same week in May 2021, Rodrigo became the youngest solo artist in history to nab the chart double, aged 18 years and 3 months. Also, Sour set a benchmark for the most first-week streams for a debut album in the U.K. Then, in June 2021, the U.S. pop singer became the first female solo artist to claim three simultaneous U.K. top 5 singles with “Good 4 U,” “Déjà vu” and “Traitor.” With three No. 1s, she’s the female solo artist with the most U.K. No. 1 singles this decade. As Guts completes its sprint to the top, Sour enjoys a return to the top 10. Rodrigo’s debut effort rises 18-8 in its 121st week on the tally. Guts separately reigns over the Billboard 200, and the ARIA Albums Chart.Unchanged at No. 2 on the latest U.K. survey is Travis Scott’s former leader Utopia (RCA), while English indie rockers the Coral enter at No. 3 with Sea of Mirrors (Modern Sky/Run On), for their seventh top 10 appearance. The Wirral indie band also appears further down the list with accompanying album Holy Joe’s Coral Island Medicine Show, new at No. 36.Former Moloko singer Roisin Murphy enjoys her first solo top 10 appearance with Hit Parade (Ninja Tune), new at No. 5; veteran electronic pair the Chemical Brothers land a tenth U.K. top 10 with For That Beautiful Feeling (EMI), new at No. 6; and M Huncho’s My Neighbours Don’t Know (MYB) starts at No. 9, for the masked U.K. rapper’s fourth top 10.Outside the top tier are new releases from the xx vocalist Romy (Mid Air at No. 15 via Young), Public Service Broadcasting (This New Noise at No. 28 via Test Card), Fleetwood Mac (Rumours Live at No. 34 via Rhino) and Yussef Dayes (Black Classical Music at No. 37 via Brownswood Recordings).

Easy peaked out at No. 4 in 1999, while New Detention hit No. 2 in 2002, two of the group’s eight top 10 albums in their homeland.
