Bad Bunny

Things, for a while, have been unprecedented. Following an 18-month quiet period for concert venues worldwide, doors slowly opened, first in the U.S. and increasingly so around the globe. This made for an excepted review of touring in 2021, but the full return of live music presents a much fuller picture this year. With the 2022 year-end Boxscore recap, precedents continue to fade as Bad Bunny finishes as the yearâs top touring act (No. 1 on Top Tours) with total gross of $373.5 million from 1.8 million tickets across 65 shows.

Bad Bunny is the first Latin act, and first act who doesnât perform in English, to finish atop Billboardâs year-end Top Tours chart. Beyond the historic nature of his win for genre and language, he is the only artist to mount separate $100-million tours in the same year.
Further, while Boxscore charts often favor older acts with deeper histories on the road, like 2020 and 2021 champs Elton John and The Rolling Stones, Bad Bunnyâs win this year is a testament to the growing power of contemporary stadium acts. In fact, the 28-year-old is just the third artist to simultaneously crown the year-end Top Tours and overall Top Artists charts, following Taylor Swift in 2015 and One Direction in 2014.
Bad Bunnyâs year in touring breaks down into several parts. First, he played two hometown stadium shows at San Juanâs Hiram Bithorn Stadium, earning $6.5 million on Dec. 10-11, 2021. That was followed by El Ultimo Tour Del Mundo, an arena run named after his 2020 album that broke ground as the first all-Spanish-language set to top the weekly Billboard 200 chart. On that trek, he earned $116.8 million from 35 shows, enough to set a record for the highest-grossing Latin tour in Boxscore history.
Billboardâs Year-End Boxscore charts are based on figures reported to Billboard Boxscore for engagements that played between Nov. 1, 2021-Oct. 31, 2022.Â
That tour broke local records in Inglewood, Calif., Miami, Houston, Seattle, and more, setting the stage for an even bigger fall in 2022. After releasing Un Verano Sin Ti and spending most the summer at No. 1 on the Billboard 200, Bad Bunny played three Puerto Rico shows for a $4 million gross, and then properly embarked on Worldâs Hottest Tour, living up to its name at each stop.
The trek leveled Bad Bunny to stadiums and took in $232.5 million in North America, plus another $13.8 million from its first four Latin American shows. After setting arena records throughout the U.S. in the spring, he set revenue records in 12 of the 15 domestic markets he played in the fall. While Daddy Yankeeâs La Ultima Vuelta World Tour quickly stole Bunnyâs all-time Latin tour record from earlier this year, Worldâs Hottest Tour re-sets the pace as the first pan-American stadium tour of its size.
All of that combines to $373.5 million during the twelve-month tracking period, amounting to a record-setting, historic No. 1 finish, eclipsing Elton John and Ed Sheeran at Nos. 2-3, each of whom was a previous year-end victor.
These men lead the most eye-popping Top Tours chart ever. Five acts grossed more than $200 million, beating the previous high of four in 2018, and 16 acts generated more than $100 million in ticket sales, nearly doubling the previous high of nine in 2017 and 2018.
2022 was the year of Bad Bunny. The superstar rules Billboardâs year-end Top Artists chart for the first time and his blockbuster release Un Verano Sin Ti is the year-end No. 1 on the Billboard 200 Albums recap. Itâs both the first time that an act that primarily records in Spanish is the yearâs top artist, and a mostly non-English-language set is the biggest album of the year. (Billboard began compiling the year-end Top Artists category in 1981, and albums in 1956.)

The 28-year-old Puerto Rican (born Benito Antonio Martinez Ocasio) crowns the year-end Top Artists tally thanks largely to the extraordinary success of his second No. 1 on the Billboard 200, the all-Spanish-language Un Verano Sin Ti, and its slew of hits on the Billboard Hot 100 songs chart. Un Verano Sin Ti debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 dated May 21 and spent 13 nonconsecutive weeks atop the chart â the most weeks at No. 1 since 2016. The set also never left the top two positions of the weekly list in its first 24 weeks â becoming the first album to spend its first six months in the top two.
Un Verano Sin Ti also marked just the second all-Spanish-language album to reach No. 1 on the weekly Billboard 200, following Bad Bunnyâs own El Ultimo Tour del Mundo in 2020.
Billboardâs year-end music recaps represent aggregated metrics for each artist, title, label and music contributor on the weekly charts dated Nov. 20, 2021 through Nov. 12, 2022. The rankings for Luminate-based recaps reflect equivalent album units, airplay, sales or streaming during the weeks that the titles appeared on a respective chart during the tracking year. Any activity registered before or after a titleâs chart run isnât considered in these rankings. That methodology details, and the November-November time period, account for some of the difference between these lists and the calendar-year recaps that are independently compiled by Luminate. The Top Artists and Top New Artists categories ranks the best-performing overall acts, and new acts, of the year based on activity on the Billboard 200 album and Billboard Hot 100 songs chart, as well as Billboard Boxscore (touring) data, for the 2022 tracking period.

Bad Bunny also profited from the continued success of four of his other albums â YHLQMDLG, El Ultimo Tour del Mundo, X 100PRE and the boxed set Anniversary Trilogy â all of which charted on the Billboard 200 during the 2022 tracking year. In total, Bad Bunny places four albums on the year-end Billboard 200 Albums chart â Un Verano Sin Ti (No. 1), YHLQMDLG (No. 36), El Ultimo Tour del Mundo (No. 69) and X 100PRE (No. 165).
Un Verano Sin Ti saw 22 of its 23 songs debut on the Hot 100 concurrent with the albumâs release (the one album track that didnât debut had already hit the list in 2019). On the year-end Hot 100 Songs recap, Bad Bunny places seven titles, led by âMe Porto Bonito,â with Chencho Corleone, at No. 20. Fueled by the success of the 24 songs he placed on the Hot 100 during the chart year, Bunny is No. 1 on Hot 100 Artists recap for 2022.
Bad Bunny is additionally 2022âs top male artist for the first time, while Taylor Swift is the top female (No. 2 on the overall list), Glass Animals is the top duo/group (No. 18 overall) and Latto leads the 2022 Top New Artists chart (No. 34 overall).
Itâs Bad Bunnyâs first time as the yearâs top male, while for Swift, itâs her sixth time as the lead female (she was also tops in 2020, 2018, 2015, 2013 and 2009). She notched a pair of new No. 1s on the Billboard 200 during the chart year â Red (Taylorâs Version) and Midnights â which finish at Nos. 5 and 4, respectively, on the year-end Billboard 200 Albums chart. Itâs the first time one act has two of the top five year-end biggest albums since 1975, when John Denver was Nos. 3 and 4 with John Denverâs Greatest Hits and Back Home Again.
Glass Animals also triumph as the yearâs top/duo group for the first time, largely powered by the actâs smash single âHeat Wavesâ â the British bandâs first No. 1 on the weekly Hot 100. It also broke the record for the longest-charting Hot 100 hit (91 weeks) and wraps 2022 at No. 1 on the Hot 100 Songs year-end recap.
Glass Animalsâ âHeat Wavesâ reigns as the No. 1 hit on Billboardâs 2022 year-end Hot 100 Songs chart, following its sizzling, record-breaking run on the weekly ranking, which blends streaming, radio airplay and sales data.

Meanwhile, Bad Bunny tops Billboardâs 2022 year-end Hot 100 Artists recap. He charted all 22 newly released tracks on his album Un Verano Sin Ti on the Hot 100 in the albumâs explosive first chart week in May, including four in the top 10.

âHeat Wavesâ tops Billboardâs 2022 year-end Hot 100 Songs chart after it completed the longest climb to the weekly Hot 100âs summit in the chartâs history: 59 weeks.
The first Hot 100 leader (and entry) for British quartet Glass Animals â Dave Bayley, Edmund Irwin-Singer, Drew MacFarlane and Joe Seaward â debuted on the Jan. 16, 2021-dated chart and spent five weeks at No. 1 this March-April. Released in June 2020, the track subsequently topped weekly alternative, pop and adult radio airplay tallies, and, helping spark its multi-format crossover, connected prominently on TikTok.

âThe song is about nostalgia and the past, and remembering and missing people,â Bayley mused upon the singleâs Hot 100 coronation. âI think through the last couple years, and still now, people have been missing their loved ones, and not everyoneâs been able to just go visit their parents, or their best friend. Itâs been quite difficult ⊠thatâs my hunch as to why people have gravitated towards this song.
âI almost feel like it gives us a little bit of breathing room,â Bayley added of the songâs success. âI think thereâs often a lot of pressure to keep putting things out. But because this has kept going, itâs given us the confidence to just keep doing what we were doing.â
âHeat Waves,â released on Wolf Tone/Polydor/Republic Records, went on to spend a record 91 weeks on the Hot 100 overall.
âWhen I wrote this song, I was writing about missing someone I loved very dearly,â Bayley further shared when âHeat Wavesâ rewrote the Hot 100âs new longevity mark. âNever in my wildest dreams did I think that it would lead to so much love and connection across the globe.â
âHeat Wavesâ is the first year-end Hot 100 No. 1 by a group (of more than two members) since The Black Eyed Peasâ âBoom Boom Powâ in 2009. Plus, until this year, no British group had led the year-end list since The Police with âEvery Breath You Takeâ in 1983. (Among duos, U.S.-based Macklemore & Ryan Lewis topped the 2013 tally with âThrift Shop,â featuring Wanz; among non-solo British acts, in between Glass Animals and The Police, Wham! wrapped at No. 1 for 1985 with âCareless Whisper.â)
âHeat Wavesâ is also the No. 1 title on the 2022 year-end Streaming Songs chart.
Harry Stylesâ âAs It Wasâ places at No. 2 on the 2022 year-end Hot 100 Songs chart, after it ruled the weekly Hot 100 for 15 weeks, the fourth-longest command in the chartâs history. The single also tops the year-end Billboard Global 200, Billboard Global Excl. U.S. and Pop Airplay Songs charts.
The Kid LAROI and Justin Bieberâs âStayâ ranks at No. 3 on the 2022 year-end Hot 100 Songs chart and leads the year-end Radio Songs and Adult Pop Airplay Song tallies; Adeleâs âEasy on Meâ finishes at No. 4 on the year-end Hot 100 Songs survey and is the No. 1 title of the year on Adult Contemporary Songs; and Ed Sheeranâs âShiversâ places at No. 5 on the year-end Hot 100 Songs ranking.
Rounding out the top 10 of the year-end Hot 100 Songs chart: Jack Harlowâs âFirst Classâ (No. 6); Lattoâs âBig Energyâ (No. 7); Bieberâs âGhostâ (No. 8); Kodak Blackâs âSuper Gremlinâ (No. 9); and Elton John and Dua Lipaâs âCold Heart (Pnau Remix)â (No. 10), also the top title on the year-end Digital Song Sales chart.
While Lipa landed the No. 1 spot on the 2021 year-end Hot 100 Songs chart with âLevitating,â John scores his highest yearly placement since âCandle in the Wind 1997âł/âSomething About the Way You Look Tonightâ was No. 8 in 1998 (after finishing at No. 1 in 1997).
Bad Bunny crowns Billboardâs 2022 year-end Hot 100 Artists chart. He sent all 22 newly-released tracks on his album Un Verano Sin Ti, released on Rimas Entertainment, onto the Hot 100 in the albumâs first chart week in May, including four in the top 10. Among those four, âMe Porto Bonito,â with Chencho Corleone, finishes highest on the year-end Hot 100 Songs recap, at No. 20.
Bad Bunny also rules the yearâs overall Top Artists chart, while Un Verano Sin Ti is 2022âs No. 1 title on the Billboard 200 Albums year-end retrospective.
Doja Cat places second on Billboardâs 2022 year-end Hot 100 Artists chart, having notched three new top 10s on the weekly Hot 100 during the year, followed in the top 10 by Styles (No. 3); Sheeran (No. 4); Morgan Wallen (No. 5); Taylor Swift (No. 6); Bieber (No. 7); Drake (No. 8); Future (No. 9); and Lil Baby (No. 10).
Meanwhile, Republic Records tops Billboardâs 2022 year-end Hot 100 Labels chart. The label defends its 2021 title, after it also led during the last decade in 2019, 2018, 2017, 2016, 2015 and 2014.
Bad Bunnyâs Un Verano Sin Ti is 2022âs year-end No. 1 on the Billboard 200 Albums chart.
The blockbuster album was released on May 6, 2022 and debuted at No. 1 on the weekly Billboard 200 chart (dated May 21). It marked just the second all-Spanish-language album to reach No. 1 on the weekly Billboard 200, following Bad Bunnyâs own El Ultimo Tour del Mundo in 2020.
Un Verano Sin Ti spent 13 nonconsecutive weeks atop the list in 2022 â the most weeks at No. 1 for any album since 2016, when Drakeâs Views also notched 13 weeks in the lead. Un Verano Sin Ti was so popular, it never left the top two positions on the weekly Billboard 200 for its first 24 weeks on the chart â the first time any album had spent its first six months in the top two.

Un Verano Sin Ti is also the first Latin album to finish as the year-end No. 1 Billboard 200 Album. (Latin titles are defined as those that have charted on Billboardâs Top Latin Albums chart.)
In addition, Un Verano Sin Ti also places at No. 1 on the year-end Independent Albums, Top Latin Albums and Latin Rhythm Albums charts.
That methodology details, and the November-November time period, account for some of the difference between these lists and the calendar-year recaps that are independently compiled by Luminate.
At No. 2 on the 2022 year-end Billboard 200 Albums ranking is Adeleâs 30, which spent six weeks at No. 1 on the weekly Billboard 200 during the 2022 chart year. The third-biggest album on the year-end chart is 2021âs top album, Morgan Wallenâs Dangerous: The Double Album.
Taylor Swift doubles up in the 2022 year-end top five, as her most recent release, Midnights, is No. 4, while her 2021 release Red (Taylorâs Version), is No. 5. Itâs the first time one act has two of the top five year-end biggest albums since 1975, when John Denver was Nos. 3 and 4 with John Denverâs Greatest Hits and Back Home Again.
Both Midnights and Red (Taylorâs Version) debuted at No. 1 on the weekly Billboard 200, with the former charting just two weeks on the list during the 2022 chart year. Midnights charts so high on the year-end ranking from only two weeks of charting activity thanks to its incredibly large first two weeks, in terms of overall equivalent album units earned.
Notably, in the last 15 years (2008-22), Swift has placed at least one album in the year-end Billboard 200 Albums recap in all but two years. Sheâs only missed a top 10 year-end roundup in that span of time in 2016 and 2017. (The absence in those years was owed mostly to her not releasing any new albums for three years between the bows of 1989 In October of 2014 and Reputation in November of 2017.) In 2016, her highest-ranking album was 1989, at No. 17, while in 2017, her top-performing set was also 1989, at No. 101.
The Encanto soundtrack is No. 6 on the 2022 Billboard 200 Albums recap, followed by Harry Stylesâ Harryâs House, Olivia Rodrigoâs Sour, Drakeâs Certified Lover Boy and The Weekndâs The Highlights. Three albums in the 2022 year-end top 10 are repeats from 2021âs recap: Dangerous (No. 1 in 2021), Sour (No. 2 in 2021) and Certified Lover Boy (No. 5 in 2021).
Of 2022âs top 10 Billboard 200 Albums, the only title that didnât reach No. 1 on the weekly chart is The Weekndâs 18-track greatest hits set The Highlights, which has so-far peaked at No. 2. Itâs the first hits compilation from a single artist to finish in the year-end top 10 since 2014, when Garth Brooksâ 77-track covers/retrospective boxed set Blame It All on My Roots: Five Decades of Influences was No. 9. The last conventional greatest hits album to rank among the yearâs top 10 albums was another Brooks effort, the 34-track The Ultimate Hits, which closed 2008 as the No. 10 title of the year.
2022 was a big year for music and music videos, and YouTube officially unveiled on Thursday (Dec. 1) its top 10 songs of the year.
Leading the U.S.-based list is âWe Donât Talk About Brunoâ from the Encanto soundtrack, which also rocked the Billboard charts as it ruled the Billboard Hot 100 songs chart for five weeks back in February.
Following the Disney hit is Kodak Blackâs âSuper Gremlinâ and Jessica Darrowâs âSurface Pressureâ in second and third place, respectively.

The songs that appear on the annual YouTube include streams from the official music video, lyric videos and user-generated content that uses the full official song, and cover the period from Jan. 1, 2022 to Nov. 15, 2022. Its lists are restricted to two songs for each artist or album.
It was a big year for Latin music on YouTube, as both Bad Bunny and Karol G had two songs each on YouTubeâs top 10 list. Bad Bunnyâs âTitĂ Me PreguntĂłâ launched in at No. 4 while his Chencho Corleone collaboration âMe Porto Bonitoâ was No. 6. Karol Gâs Becky G duet âMamiiiâ came in at No. 7 while her sultry âProvenzaâ hit No. 9. Lil Babyâs âIn a Minuteâ completes the top 10.
Bad Bunny has enjoyed another massive year across all platforms. The Puerto Rican rapper was, separately, named the top artist in Spotifyâs year-end list, and his LP Un Verano Sin Ti was its most-streamed album.

Yes, the rumors are true: Bad Bunny and ArcĂĄngel are releasing a new song together, and youâll be able to hear it much sooner than you think. âLa Jumpa,â the pairâs latest collaboration, will be out on Wednesday (Nov. 30) at 5 p.m. ET.

ArcĂĄngel revealed that âLa Jumpaâ was recorded remotely in recent days, and will be included on his forthcoming album Señor Santos, which will arrive on Thursday (Dec. 1) at 8 p.m. under Rimas Entertainment.
âItâs a song that he sent me about a week ago. I already had the album finished and we were waiting for it,â ArcĂĄngel told Billboard Español in an exclusive interview.
âLa Jumpaâ joins a list of collaborations between ArcĂĄngel and Bad Bunny, including hits âMe AcostumbrĂ©â (2017), âOriginalâ (2018) and âPor Tiâ (2021), as well as 2016âs âDilesâ with Ozuna, Farruko and Ăengo Flow and 2017âs âSoy Peor Remixâ with J Balvin and Ozuna.
On Tuesday, Bad Bunny caused a stir by posting a series of photos of the two of them together over the years in his Instagram stories. Hours later, rumors of a possible new collab were trending in countries like Argentina.
Bunny, who is currently touring Latin America with his Worldâs Hottest Tour, âalready had some ideas for the next song that we would record togetherâ and managed to do it in Peru, ArcĂĄngel said. âRemember that heâs on tour and itâs very difficult for him to go to a music studio, so he had to send someone to look for a studio.â
âHe sent me the song, we recorded the same day, and three, four days passed in which we sent back and he listened,â he continued. âYou know, we havenât seen each other in a few months, and we recorded the last track for my album this week. Yesterday we were able to deliver it and all the parties were happy with the mastering of the song, we are all in agreement, so we finished it yesterday and the album is out in two daysâ.
âLa Jumpaâ is one of the 18 tracks in Señor Santos, a trap album which ArcĂĄngel dedicates to the memory of his brother Justin, who died last year in a car accident. A video for âLa Ruta,â a song by ArcĂĄngel with YOVNGCHIMI that talks about the current times in Puerto Rico, will also arrive with the album on Dec. 1.
Señor Santos additionally features collaborations with Duki and Bizarrap (âVaterri Botasâ), Myke Towers (âDĂgitosâ), Eladio CarriĂłn (âSanta Clausâ), Bryant Myers (âSpicy Crabâ), Diem (âDe negroâ), De La Ghetto (âThenâ), Almighty (âFendaceâ), and Young Flow, Jim Jones, Chucky 73 and Douba Montana (âSon Scottiâ).
It was a battle of icons and superstars, with Bad Bunny and veteran singer/songwriter Jorge Drexler leading the list of winners in the pre-Latin Grammys telecast Thursday (Nov. 17) in Las Vegas.

Drexler, the beloved Uruguayan singer/songwriter known for his complex, often cerebral fare, led the fray with four wins, for best pop song (âLa Guerrilla de la Concordiaâ), best alternative song (âEl dĂa que Estrenaste el Mundoâ), best singer/songwriter album (for Tinta y Tiempo) and best Portuguese language song (alongside Marisa Monte in âVento Sardoâ). A fifth Latin Grammy went to arranger Fernando Velazquez for best arrangement in Drexlerâs âEl plan maestro.â
Bad Bunny also took home four awards, for Best urban fusion performance and Best urban song with âTiti Me PreguntĂłâ; best reggaetĂłn performance with âLo siento BB:/â alongside Tainy and Julieta Venegas; and best rap/hip-hop song with âDe Museo.â
Another iconic Latin star, Argentinaâs Fito PĂĄez, won three awards, while RosalĂa took home Best alternative album and Best engineered album for her Motomami.
âIf Iâm getting this award, certainly itâs because of Fito, but also, because of my love for Argentine rock,â said Carlos Vives, who won best pop/rock song for âBabel,â alongside PĂĄez. âI was never a fan of The Beatles. I didnât even learn English at home. But I always listened to Argentine rock.â Â
Icons Juan Luis Guerra and Residente also won awards: Guerra in best merengue/bachata album for Entre Mar y Palmeras and Residente in best short-form video for his incendiary âThis Is Not America.â Latin Grammy fave Natalia LaFourcade won best long-form video for her Hasta La RaĂz: El Documental.
When a visibly emotional Tainy picked up the award for âLo Siento BB:/,â he said: âWorking with Julieta, it wasnât my genre. I feel blessed.â It was one of many emotional speeches, but perhaps the most rousing was by Brazilâs Liniker, who won the Latin Grammy for best MPB (Musica Popular Brasileira) album with Indigo Borboleta Anil. âThere is history being made in my country, Brazil, tonight. This is the first time a transgender artist wins a Grammy,â said Liniker, putting the audience on their feet.
The winner of the coveted producer of the year award went to acclaimed Colombian producer Julio Reyes-Copello, winning that prize for the first time after multiple nominations through the years. âIâm not Julio Reyes-Copello; Iâm his manager AndrĂ©s Recio,â said Recio, picking up the award for Reyes-Copello. âIâve been his manager for 22 years, and weâve dreamt about this award for 22 years.â
The pre-telecast was the precursor to the Latin Grammy Awards, which will air at 8 p.m. ET Thursday night on the Univision network from the Michelob Ultra Arena at the Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino in Las Vegas.
The full list of winners below, with winners in bold, will be updated during the evening.

Bad Bunny leads the nominations for the 2022 American Music Awards with eight nods, including his first for artist of the year. If the Puerto Rican superstar wins in all eight categories, he would tie Michael Jackson and Whitney Houston for the most AMAs in a single year.
BeyoncĂ©, Drake and Taylor Swift are close behind with six nods each. That makes Bey and Swift the yearâs top female nominees. The two powerhouses are facing off in three categories â artist of the year, favorite female pop artist and favorite pop album.
Adele, Harry Styles, The Weeknd and Future each received five nods. Imagine Dragons and MĂ„neskin are tied as the group with the most nods â four. Jack Harlow and Tems also received four nods.
The American Music Awards are set to air live from Microsoft Theater at L.A. Live in Los Angeles on Sunday, Nov. 20, at 8 p.m. ET, and via tape delay at 8 p.m. PT, on ABC. A host has not yet been announced. Cardi B hosted last yearâs show.
There are seven nominees for artist of the year, up from five nominees in each of the last five years. Swift received her record-extending ninth nomination in the category; Drake, his sixth; The Weeknd, his fifth. Adele, BeyoncĂ© and Styles each received their third â counting Stylesâ two previous nods with One Direction. As noted, this was Bad Bunnyâs first nod in the category.
Swift holds the record for the most wins in the artist of the year category (six). She also holds the record for most AMA wins overall (34).
The AMAs added or revived six categories this year â favorite K-pop artist, favorite Afrobeats artist, favorite rock song, favorite rock album, favorite touring artist and favorite soundtrack. This is a breakthrough for K-pop and Afrobeats, which have not previously had AMAs categories dedicated to them. Favorite touring artist was dropped the last two years because of the pandemic, when relatively few people went to concerts. Favorite soundtrack was dropped last year when moviegoing was down for the same reason.
The AMAs dropped one category this year â favorite trending song, won last year by Megan Thee Stallionâs âBody.â
With two nods (collaboration of the year and favorite touring artist), Elton John makes history as the longest-recognized artist in AMA history. He was nominated for favorite pop/rock male artist in 1974 at the inaugural American Music Awards. He lost to singer/songwriter Jim Croce, whose death in a September 1973 plane crash triggered a tremendous sales surge.
More than 40 artists received their first-ever nominations this year, including the aforementioned Harlow and Tems (four nods each), Latto (three), Blackpink (one), Anitta (one), and Swedish House Mafia (one).
The nominations announcement kicked off ABCâs Good Morning America with a reveal of the 2022 new artist of the year nominees â Dove Cameron, Gayle, Latto, MĂ„neskin and Steve Lacy. The segment featured a video of two-time AMA winner Becky G surprising this yearâs nominees with the news. Additional nominees were announced via the AMAsâ Twitter account.
The AMAs bill themselves as âthe worldâs largest fan-voted awards show.â They further tout that last yearâs show was the most social telecast of 2021 with 46.5 million interactions.
Nominees are based on key fan interactions â as reflected on the Billboard charts â including streaming, album and song sales, radio airplay, and tour grosses. These measurements are tracked by Billboard and its data partner Luminate, and cover the eligibility period of Sept. 24, 2021, through Sept. 22, 2022 (representing Billboard chart dates of Oct. 9, 2021, through Oct. 1, 2022).
The 2022 American Music Awards are produced by dick clark productions and Jesse Collins Entertainment. Collins, founder and CEO of the company that bears his name, returns as showrunner and executive producer. Dionne Harmon and Jeannae Rouzan-Clay, two of the top executives in Collinsâ company, and Larry Klein, a longtime member of the AMAs production inner circle, are also executive producers.
This is the 50th edition of the show, which was created by TV music/variety OG Dick Clark in 1973. The show has aired on ABC continuously since 1974, marking one of the longest continuous network relationships for any awards show.
