This week, fans can pre-order the book set to hit shelves and online stores on July 15. Filled with life lessons that include healing, grief and confronting bullying, the book âhonors the relationship she had with her mom, finding solace from her grief in their shared love of music by singing to the bees in her abuelitaâs garden and the power to find her voice despite fear and bullying from peers,â according to a press release. The Girl Who Sings to Bees will go on sale in July and will be available for purchase on Amazon, Barnes & Noble, and Target, to name a few. Fans can pre-order here.Â

From Song to Movie
âPatria y Vida,â the liberty anthem that fueled a new Cuban revolution and won two Latin Grammys in 2021, has become a full-length documentary set to hit U.S. theaters on July 11 via Spanglish Movies. Directed by Beatriz Luengo and starring Yotuel, the film features notable musical figures including Emilio and Gloria Estefan, Camila Cabello, Gente de Zona and Billboardâs Leila Cobo. The song â penned by Yotuel (formerly of hip-hop group Orishas), Luengo, Alexander Delgado and Randy Malcom (of Gente de Zona) and Descemer Bueno, and features Cuban voices from within the island, Maykel Osorbo and rapper El Funky â became the anthem of anti-government protests in Cuba. âI felt we needed to show the two realities: those of us who live outside Cuba, and those who are still on the island, who live the streets there,â Yotuel previously told Billboard. Siempre Selena Radio
SiriusXM has launched the Siempre Selena radio channel, where for a limited time, fans will enjoy the Queen of Tejanoâs biggest hits. As part of the channel and ahead of its 30th anniversary, Suzette Quintanilla (sister of the late singer and Los Dinos member), opened up about Selenaâs Dreaming of You album, released posthumously, and which made history as the first predominately Spanish-language album to ever debut at No. 1 on the all-genre Billboard 200 in 1995.
âWhen Dreaming of You came out I didnât care,â Quintanilla expressed on the radio show. âI was too much lost in my grief. I didnât know day or night, I didnât care about anything. And then I learned to love it and to understand what it represents. It hurt for a very long time to be able to listen to this album, but as time went by, I embraced that this is what sister left behind. This was her not completely fulfilling her dream of doing a whole album, but itâs OK because at least we got this.â
The Siempre Selena channel is available through July 3 on the SiriusXM app, and on satellite channel 79 from June 4 to 10.
Rocking a signed Britney Spears shirt, Lil Wayne kicked off his Tha Carter VI Tour in front of a sold-out Madison Square Garden (Wayneâs first time as a solo headliner at MSG) on Friday night (June 6). Weezy took a well-deserved victory lap, with Friday also serving as C6 release day, which called for a […]
CRT FRSH, Hip-Hop Wiredâs playlist where we showcase music that we believe is âCertified Fresh,â is back with an all-new set of heat! With our latest update this week, weâre featuring some future legends and rising stars in the game from all over the map.
I want to explain how I approach curating the CRT FRSH playlist. Most importantly, I donât segregate my Hip-Hop. Every form of music from the main cultural tree deserves a listen and a look. When I construct the playlist, I want to include all regions across the States and, when applicable, across the globe. I also want to entertain every fan of Hip-Hop, not just those who enjoy one segment of it. Now that weâve got that out of the way, letâs get to it.
The CRT FRSH playlist is a labor of love. We donât take payments, nor do we do favors. We only add joints to our playlist that fit the theme and vision weâre going for and donât seek to waste the listenerâs time. Further, we donât stick to one lane of Hip-Hop. We believe that all aspects of the music should get some light, whether itâs young lions in the trenches or those hoping for that one shot to blow up to grizzled veterans puffing out their chests with lots more to say. â D.L. Chandler, Lead Curator, CRT FRSH
Welcome back to CRT FRSH, and Iâm super excited for this weekâs update. We open things up with âWelcome To The Carterâ from Lil Wayneâs new album, Tha Carter VI (peep the review here). Benny The Butcher dropped off a seven-track EP, Excelsior, and the Black Soprano Family boss taps Styles P for the potent âToxicâ track.
We saw The Clipse tear down the stage at this yearâs Roots Picnic, and the Brothers Thorton, Malice, and Pusha T are prepping a new album. Their new single, âAce Trumpets,â is more of their usual lyrical precision. ChĂŠ Noir, who is prepping her latest release, The Color Chocolate 2, taps Detroitâs Elzhi for the booming âWhoâs The Greatest?â
Coyote, the duo of Mexican-American rappers Ladies Love Guapo and Ricky Blanco, first appeared on our radar with their dope âRunninâ All Fadesâ with Ab-Soul. They just dropped off their new album, yoteLAndia, and the track âFace Tattsâ features Lefty Gunplay. The High & Mighty (Mr. Eon and DJ Mighty Mi) have been in the game for over 25 years, and theyâre back with their new album, Sound Of Market. The track âThe Rose Bowlâ features the Yodfather himself, Your Old Droog, with production from The Alchemist.
Salute to Joyner Lucas, Boldy James, Nicholas Craven, GloRilla, T.F, Khrysis, SiR, GELO, 2 Eleven, Jay Rock, Ray Vaughn, KIIIA, Ab-Soul, Python P, Meek Mill, G Herbo, Planet Asia, Cozz, Flee Lord, ETO, Vel Nine, Smoke DZA, Dave East, Mike & Keys, and Jahzae Rose.
Weâll be updating this joint in two weeks. For now, rock with these records and let us know what you think in the comments or on our social media pages. The playlist can be found below.

Sony claims in a new lawsuit that streaming platform LiveOne and its subsidiary Slacker Radio owe $2.6 million in unpaid licensing fees yet are refusing to stop playing the labelâs music, including tracks by BeyoncĂŠ, Miley Cyrus and Tate McRae.
The allegations come in a federal lawsuit Sony filed Friday (June 6) against LiveOne and Slacker, which LiveOne acquired in 2017 and has since folded into the LiveOne streaming app. Â
Sony and Slacker have been doing business with each other since 2007 through a content distribution deal, according to the lawsuit. But Sonyâs lawyers say LiveOne and Slacker stopped making regular monthly licensing payments in August 2024 and now owe a total outstanding balance of $2.6 million.
Trending on Billboard
âIn the past several months alone, Slacker claims to have seen increasing commercial success, touting a surge in usage of the LiveOne app and a year-over-year surge in content views,â write Sonyâs attorneys. âDespite this self-proclaimed growth, Slackerâtrue to its nameâhas failed to make license payments to Sony Music as and when required under the agreement, and its parent, LiveOne, has likewise failed to live up to its guarantee.â
According to the lawsuit, Sony notified LiveOne and Slacker in March that it was terminating the content distribution deal in light of this contract breach. Sony says it âexpressly informedâ them that further use of its music would constitute copyright infringement, according to the lawsuit.
But Sonyâs lawyers claim the LiveOne app is still streaming more than 200 of the labelâs songs â also including tracks by Doja Cat, Harry Styles, Justin Timberlake and Khalid.
âSlackerâs conduct has caused and continues to cause substantial and irreparable harm to Sony Music and its artists, while enriching defendants at the expense of Sony Music and its artists,â write Sonyâs lawyers. âBy this lawsuit, Sony Music seeks damages for Slacker and LiveOneâs breach of the agreement and for defendantsâ willful infringement of Sony Musicâs copyrights since the March 15, 2025, termination of the agreement.â
Representatives for Slacker did not immediately return Billboardâs request for comment on the claims.
The lawsuit comes three years after Slacker and LiveOne faced a different lawsuit over unpaid fees from SoundExchange, the nonprofit that collects and distributes royalties to record labels and artists. A federal judge ultimately ordered the streaming companies to pay SoundExchange nearly $10 million in past-due royalties.
The first time Broadway director and choreographer Sergio Trujillo heard about Real Women Have Curves, he didnât pay much attention. His husband, producer Jack Noseworthy â with whom he runs Truworthy Productions, focused on finding Latino stories to empower the community through musical theater â had watched the America Ferrera-starring 2002 movie and asked him to see it, thinking it would make âa really interesting musical.â
âMostly because heâs been growing up with my family â my mother, my sisters, all of them â and he said he saw something in it,â Trujillo, who was born in Colombia, tells Billboard EspaĂąol. âI was so absorbed with so many other projects, that I sort of saw it but I didnât pay attention.â
One night, he decided to give it another shot, learning that it was originally a play by Josefina LĂłpez â which he read immediately. âI was like, âOh, my God, this is a musical! Mostly because the characters were bigger than life. The language was so buoyant, it was like music. The story was beautiful,â he recalls joyfully. âAnd there is a phrase that [the protagonist] Ana says in the play â âWomen are most powerful when they work togetherâ â that resonated with me deeply, more than anything else.â

Set in the Boyle Heights section of Los Angeles in 1987, Real Women Have Curves follows Ana GarcĂa, a cutely chubby, uber-smart daughter of immigrant parents who struggles between her ambitions of going to college and the desires of her mother for her to get married, have children and oversee the small, rundown family-owned textile factory. The show deals with gender politics and the Latina immigrant experience, with immigration agents messing with their husbands, judgment from other characters, and dreams that for many undocumented seem simply impossible to achieve.
Trujillo, both as an immigrant and as one of the few men in his family, felt a profound connection. âI thought, âWhat a great way to,â first of all, in the mission to empower our community, âto empower women, but also celebrate all of my mother and my sister and my aunts, all of the women that have made so many sacrifices so that I could have the life that I have.’â And that is what he did.
Formally opening on April 27 at the James Earl Jones Theatre, Real Women Have Curves: The Musical is now nominated for two Tony Awards at Sundayâs show: best original score, by Latin music star Joy Huerta (half of the Mexican pop duo Jesse & Joy) and Benjamin Velez, and best performance by an actress in a featured role for Justina Machado â who in a full-circle moment plays Carmen GarcĂa, the mother of Ana, more than 30 years after playing Ana herself at the Victory Gardens Theater in Chicago.
The fact that both Huerta and Machado received nominations this year is remarkable. The former is a Grammy-winning singer who had never done theater before. The latter â whom Trujillo worked with more than two decades ago and was completely convinced she was his Carmen â was initially reluctant to accept the role because she couldnât see herself in it.
âWhen I did the play when I was 20 years old, it was just a different kind of role. And when I saw the movie, you know, with the wonderful, iconic Lupe Ontiveros [as Carmen], I just didnât think that was something that I would want to do or that I would fit with,â Machado explains to Billboard. âI had to be talked into coming and doing a 29-hour reading â one of the first things you do when youâre developing a new musical or a new play.â
So the actress, known for TV series like Six Feet Under and One Day at a Time â and whose only previous Broadway credit was as a replacement for In The Heightsâ Daniela for a couple of months in 2009 â flew from Los Angeles to New York.
Once there, she not only found a less serious, less judgmental Carmen, but also a set of inspiring songs â from the soaring coming-of-age tune âFlying Awayâ to the humorous âAdiĂłs Andes,â sort of a funny ode to menopause which she performs brilliantly during the show. (You can listen to the full album of Real Women Have Curves: The Musical here.)
âReally, what made me fall in love with the role was the music,â Machado admits. âI was like, âOh my God, I love this music.â But I had to be convinced that I was the person to play this role.â
And as much as she loved the music, the music creators loved her. Huerta, who was recruited early on as a songwriter and was there during that first reading of the show, recalls how the actress made her feel. âJustina was the first person I remember saying, âThis is a non-negotiable for me,’â she tells Billboard. âI had never felt â I mean, I had felt it with music, but seeing a person perform that really made me forget about the world? I was like, âPlease, please make sure to get her. ⌠What do you have to do to make this happen?’â
âSergio really was the one, he really kept on,â Machado says of what convinced her. âThey were very persistent, and Iâm so very happy that they were. ⌠I never thought that I would be revisiting this play again in another form, and it really works as a musical. Itâs almost like it should have always been a musical. Itâs just so beautiful.â
Although it did not receive a Tony nomination for best musical or best actress, despite widespread acclaim for the show and for Tatiana CĂłrdoba, who plays Ana in her Broadway debut, the cast of Real Women Have Curves will be performing at the awards ceremony on Sunday night.
Trujillo hopes the effort heâs put into representing Latinos on Broadway doesnât go unnoticed by his target audience. âIâm on this mission to empower our community, to try to create content and stories in which they can see themselves,â he says. âBut I need them to come to the theater. I need Latinos to do their part and support us.â
Spotifyâs share price surpassed $700 for the first time this week and reached a new all-time high of $717.87 on Thursday (June 5). The Swedish-based, New York-listed company ended the week up 6.9% to $712.26.Â
Through Friday (June 6), Spotifyâs share price has increased 52.6% year to date, and its market capitalization has gained $54 billion to $145.8 billion. In an up-and-down year for most stocks, Spotify has rewarded investors with consistent subscriber growth and improved margins resulting from layoffs in 2023. The company finished the first quarter with 268 million subscribers, up 12% year over year, and total revenue of $4.54 billion was up 15%.Â
Spotify wasnât the biggest gainer of the week, but its immense size was a major factor behind the 4.6% gain by the 20-company Billboard Global Music Index (BGMI) for the week ended June 6. The BGMI has gone nine consecutive weeks without a decline after a two-week decline in late March and early April. Behind 14 gainers and only six losers, the index reached a new high of 2,928.46 and brought its year-to-date gain to 37.8%.Â

The consortium that took the Paris-based company private in 2024 currently owns 96.7% of share capital.Â
The two standalone major music companies had mixed results. Warner Music Group rose 0.2% to $26.37, bringing its year-to-date decline to 15.0%. Universal Music Group fell 2.8% to 27.36 euros ($31.20), lowering its year-to-date gain to 14.4%.Â

The fourth week of Sean âDiddyâ Combsâ sex-trafficking trial featured dramatic testimony about the rap mogul dangling a woman from a 17th-floor balcony and buying damning surveillance footage with $100,000 in cash in a paper bag, while a former girlfriend using the pseudonym âJaneâ got emotional on the witness stand as she described being forced to participate in marathon âfreak-offs.â
Combs is accused of using violence, money and blackmail to force women to participate in elaborate, drug-fueled sex shows called âfreak-offsâ â charges that Combs denies, saying his sex parties were consensual. Federal prosecutors have been presenting the case to a jury in New York since early May.
The trialâs fourth week began on Monday (June 2) with the cross-examination of Combsâ former assistant, whoâs using the pseudonym âMiaâ in the trial. Mia testified that Combs sexually assaulted her numerous times during her employment, according to reporting from the New York Times.
On Tuesday (June 3), a security officer at the InterContinental Hotel in Los Angeles told the jury that Combs gave him a brown paper bag full of $100,000 in cash in exchange for now-infamous surveillance footage of the rapper violently beating his then-girlfriend Cassie Ventura. That video is a centerpiece of the prosecutionâs case against Combs.
âHe said not to make any big purchases,â testified the security officer, Eddy Garcia, according to the Times.
Prosecutors will likely point to Garciaâs testimony to back their claim that Combs used money and the power of his businesses to obstruct justice, a central piece of their racketeering conspiracy charge, while Team Combs has said he was merely trying to prevent bad publicity in buying the footage.
Wednesday (June 4) brought more dramatic testimony, this time from Venturaâs friend Bryana Bongolan. Bongolan alleged that Combs dangled her from the 17th-floor balcony of Venturaâs apartment in 2016, an incident that Ventura previously chronicled in her civil lawsuit that sparked Combsâ downfall.
âI have night terrors and paranoia and scream in my sleep at times,â Bongolan testified about the lasting psychological impact of that night, according to CNN.
Bongolan also told the jury that she once witnessed Combs throwing a knife at Ventura, who gave lengthy testimony at the beginning of the trial about years of alleged abuse. Another time, Bongolan said, Combs threatened her life at a photoshoot.
âHe came up really close to my face and said something around the lines of, âIâm the devil and I could kill you,ââ Bongolan said.
Jurors spent the bulk of both Thursday and Friday (June 5 and June 6) hearing from an anonymous former girlfriend of Combs using the pseudonym âJane,â the Washington Post reports. In emotional and at times tear-filled testimony, Jane said she felt obligated to participate in Combsâ freak-offs because he paid her rent and other bills.
The jury also watched videos of the freak-offs, in which Jane said Combs forced her to have sex with multiple male escorts over the course of more than 24 hours at a time. She said Combs rejected her requests to use condoms and wouldnât let her take breaks when she was in pain.
Janeâs testimony often mirrored that of Ventura; notably, both women claimed that Combs coerced them into performing sex acts that the rapperâs defense lawyers insist were consensual. This came through in text messages between Jane and Combs that were entered into evidence.
âI donât want to play this role in your life anymore. Itâs dark, sleazy and makes me feel disgusted with myself,â wrote Jane in one message. âI donât want to feel obligated to perform these nights with you in fear of losing the roof over my head.â
âGirl stop,â Combs replied.
Jane is set to return to court on Monday (June 9) for more testimony. The trial is scheduled to continue for up to another month.
Twenty years after earning his first Billboard Hot 100 No. 1 hit, Chris Brown is still racking up the accolades.
Hard work continues to pay off for Breezy, who earned another 21 certifications from the RIAA on Friday (June 6), adding to his loaded trophy case. CB picked up the plaques for âLoyalâ and âForeverâ (both 8x platinum), âKiss Kissâ and âGo Crazyâ (both 6x platinum), and âNew Flameâ and âDeuces,â both of which reached 4x-platinum status.
Other cuts notching certifications include âBack to Sleep,â âDonât Wake Me Up,â âGrass Ainât Greener,â âDonât Judge Me,â âNext to You,â âResiduals,â âNo BS,â âDrunk Texting,â âHope You Do,â âBeg for It,â âWhoâs Gonna,â âTill I Die,â â2012,â âShouldâve Kissed Youâ and âCity Girls.â
The boatload of plaques on the way comes a month after Chris Brown picked up his third diamond plaque for âLook at Me Nowâ featuring Lil Wayne and Busta Rhymes; the good news coincidentally came on his 36th birthday (May 5).
