Travis Scott Reflects on His Relationship With Ye: ‘He Taught Me a Lot About Music’

Travis Scott’s first major break in music came thanks to Ye (formerly Kanye West). Thirteen years after appearing on Cruel Summer‘s “Sin City” and working on Yeezus, Scott still has an appreciation for West giving him a chance.

La Flame’s Complex cover story, which was published on Tuesday (April 8), sees him tackle quite a few topics, including his stance when it comes to his relationship with Ye.

“S–t, man. That’s my kid’s uncle,” he said in the interview, which appears to have taken place in February. “That guy took me in when I was young, when I was like 19. He taught me a lot about music. And not even just ‘taught’ me, but he allowed me to experience the creation of music.”

Trending on Billboard

Scott continued to reflect. “To create music with him, it’s what helped me grow, making a lot of beats,” he shared. “Whether it’s writing and collabing on music and film or clothes or whatever the f–k it is, just constantly learning.”

While Ye was raising issues with many of his peers during a series of explosive X rants in March, he took aim at Scott during an interview with DJ Akademiks. West — who has been facing backlash since 2022 for his hate speech — explained that why he felt disrespected by the “Sicko Mode” rapper.

“Trav left me off his album,” he said. “Took four of my songs from the ranch in Wyoming. My choruses, my exact singing lines — replace me with him, or put Future, SZA on the joints. With no explanation, the s–t just comes out.”

In August 2023, following Utopia‘s arrival, Scott performed in Rome and brought out West and gave his idol his flowers. “There is no Utopia without Kanye West. There is no Travis Scott without Kanye West. There is no Rome without Kanye West. Make some noise for Ye,” Scott told the crowd.

As for Scott’s next move, he’ll be headlining Saturday night (April 12) at Coachella. He also provided some context into his upcoming projects with another Jackboys label compilation and his solo album on the way.

“And for this next album, I just want to have the most ultimate fun with being creative,” he told Complex. “The most ultimate fun, taking all the things I learned and packing it in the CD and making it enjoyable to go crazy in the stadium. That’s the idea.”

Dwayne Johnson Pays Heartfelt Tribute to Young Fan, Who Died Shortly After Make-A-Wish Call

Dwayne Johnson helped a young fan named Kane’s wish come true shortly before his death.

The Moana actor took to Instagram on Monday (April 7) to share a sweet Make-A-Wish America video call he had with the boy on March 11, and the star is seen chatting with Kane, who is laying in his hospital bed surrounded by his mom Christine, dad Charlie and twin brother Dennis.

Johnson chatted with the boys about their love for Moana — the actor plays Maui in the popular Disney film — and he noticed the Hei Hei and Moana dolls in the hospital bed. He also showed the friendship bracelet his daughter Tiana made him, which looks a lot like the one Kane was wearing. While Kane couldn’t speak, the sweet boy was seen giving an adorable smile throughout the video call.

The video call ended with Johnson singing Maui’s “You’re Welcome” from Moana, switching up the lyrics to include Kane and Dennis.

“My heart always skips a beat whenever I get the call from my friends at @makeawishamerica letting me know we have a ‘Rush Wish’ that needs to happen right away,” Johnson wrote in the caption of the heartfelt emotion. “On March 11th, I had the privilege of making Kane’s wish come true – and despite not being able to speak when we met, I FELT this little boy’s SMILE, and felt this little boy’s MANA. His mana was beautiful. His mana was strong.”

Johnson revealed that a week after their video call, on March 18, “brave Kane” sadly died, with the Instagram clip showing beautiful moments from the boy’s life. “Kane LOVED MAUI and loved bringing his Maui hook ? everywhere he went,” he wrote. “He also wanted to sing ‘You’re Welcome’ ? ? and that’s exactly what we did. He may have been quiet, but in his heart, Kane was just singing away…. To his parents, Charles and Christine, I’m so deeply sorry for your loss. Sending all my love, light and aloha. Stay strong. And lastly, to his twin brother, Dennis.. Man you’re an AWESOME brother and I can’t wait to shake your hand one day ??‍?? ps… Dennis – thanks dude for helping me sing You’re Welcome… you made it sound good!!!”

Baka Not Nice Says Drake Talked Him Out of Responding to ‘Not Like Us’

Baka Not Nice recently sat down with Hot Freestyle’s Mic Check podcast and talked about being mentioned in Kendrick Lamar‘s “Not Like Us.”

When the subject came up, Baka revealed that he initially planned on immediately responding to Kendrick after the Compton MC rapped that he had a “weird case” and asked why Drake chose to continue to have him around. “My first initial thing was to respond and respond quickly, very efficiently and very to the point,” he said. “It started brewing in me because where I come from, that s—t doesn’t happen. You can’t just call out a man and not have paperwork to back up your talks. It’s ludicrous.”

He added that he couldn’t believe how big the song had gotten. “And then to see a whole nation behind it and celebrating it like it’s a true story is unbelievable,” he said. “Everybody has to understand: I have a kid, Drake has a kid, so, like, making accusations like that are ridiculous and out of this world.”

He then revealed that he didn’t respond because Drake talked him out of it and asked him to ignore it. “I was building up a lot of anger but then I got a call,” he said. “And [Drake’s] like, ‘Yo, I know what you’re feeling, I know you as an individual, I know how you get down but I’m just letting you know, don’t listen to the noise ’cause it’s noise.’ If you go back and look at all these people that are saying things, they’re not even real people, they’re bots. Don’t let that s—t bother you, bro. And you know what? I mean, it’s not a good thing but they’re calling your name.”

Baka then asked fans to do their due diligence and look up the case Lamar was referring to because he felt like he was being accused of pedophilia. “And at the end of the day, they’re gonna get over this crap because they’re gonna realize that it’s crap, and then they’re gonna do their own research,” he said. “And when you do you’re own research, you’re gonna be like, ‘Wow, this guy made up a whole story about something that isn’t even true.’ It makes you look weird to me. I don’t know.”

He finally concluded his answer with a message to fans. “I wanna say one thing to America,” he began. Y’all need to get yourself together because, yo, making serious accusations like that, you need to have paperwork. That is the No. 1 rule.”

The “weird case” Kendrick mentioned stems from a 2014 incident when Baka — born Travis Savoury — was charged with procuring prostitution and human trafficking. Those charges were dropped after he pleaded guilty to assaulting a 22-year-old Toronto woman and was sentenced to six months in jail, according to the Toronto Sun.

Drake is currently embroiled in a high profile defamation lawsuit with his parent label, UMG, alleging it defamed him by promoting Lamar’s Drizzy diss track “Not Like Us,” which includes the lyric “certified pedophile.” UMG denied the allegations and later filed to dismiss the case.

Scott Jennings Scolded By CNN Panel For Defending Losing Elon Musk

A Republican strategist was scolded for his attempts to defend tech billionaire Elon Musk during his appearance on a CNN news program. Scott Jennings, a conservative who once worked in the administration of former President George H.W. Bush, was part of the panel on the Table For Five program on Saturday (April 5) when the topic of Musk becoming “political poison” came up after his candidate lost in the Wisconsin Supreme Court election last week.

Jennings downplayed the host’s and other panelists’ reaction as “dramatically over-reading the results in Wisconsin,” going on to add: “He’s a great entrepreneur. I think his companies and he personally are getting all sorts of negative attention and even vandalism and all these violent attacks, and it’s terrible. I know personally that he’s been getting death threats, all for the sin, all for the sin, of having been a liberal who decided to support Donald Trump and then go serve in his government for a short period of time.”

Higher Learning podcast host Van Lathan immediately pushed back. “It’s actually not true,” he said, adding: “I just want to say something real quick. I understand it, a lot of people want to frame this as people started to hate Elon Musk or not like Elon Musk once Elon Musk decided to support Donald Trump –– it’s just not true.” Jennings retorted, “I definitely think it’s true.” Lathan fired back, “It started long before then when Elon Musk bought Twitter. Hate speech just erupted on Twitter. Elon Musk’s flirting with Nazism and far-right type of stuff for a couple of years before this, has made –– has gotten people off the Elon Musk bandwagon.” Host Abby Phillip interjected to agree with Lathan. “I think chronologically that is accurate,” she said.

“I don’t think it’s solely about Donald Trump,” Phillip continued after quelling the crosstalk. “I think it is, to Van’s point that he has been, even before he owned Twitter, actually before he bought it, before he wanted to buy it, he was turning his personal platform into a place where conspiracy theories, harassment. He accused a random person of pedophilia and was sued for it. I mean, like, this was happening years ago before all of this.”

For Artists, Having Their Own SiriusXM Channel Is About More Than Boosting Streaming Numbers

Back before satellite radio launched at the turn of the millennium, the best an artist could hope for was that their label’s radio team could help get their songs on playlists at as many terrestrial stations as possible, as often as possible.

But following the launch of the XM and Sirius satellite radio services in 2001 and 2002, respectively, a new paradigm emerged that allowed artists the possibility of hosting their own bespoke channels — on which they could play their hits and deep cuts, as well as songs by their influences, while chatting up their latest releases.

The new format kicked off, naturally, with Elvis Radio in 2004 on Sirius. That was followed by Sirius’ first artist pop-up channel, the Bruce Springsteen-focused E Street Radio, in November 2005, which ultimately went full-time in 2007 and continues to this day.

Trending on Billboard

The trend continued following the 2008 merger of the Sirius and XM satellite services. Since then, SiriusXM has hosted full-time channels by big-name artists including Kenny Chesney, Willie Nelson, Kelly Clarkson, Taylor Swift, Pitbull, Eminem, Bob Marley, Diplo, The Beatles, Jimmy Buffett, Grateful Dead, Phish, Frank Sinatra and dozens of others. The service has also collaborated with artists including Green Day, Beastie Boys, Jonas Brothers, Metallica, Linkin Park, Luke Bryan, Coldplay, Usher and Billie Eilish on shorter-run pop-up stations.

So why have artists flocked to the service to claim their own spots on the satellite dial?

For some, having their own SiriusXM channel can serve as a valuable promotional vehicle for a forthcoming release. Lady Gaga, who had a short-run “Gaga Radio” channel in February ahead of her blockbuster Mayhem album, tells Billboard it was “a reflection of the sounds that shaped Mayhem, the artists who move and inspire me, and the emotional connection I share with my fans,” adding that “every song you hear was handpicked — not by an algorithm, but by me.”

Marcus Mumford — whose band Mumford & Sons is the newest act to have a short-run channel, tied to the release of its new album Rushmere — says his group “leapt” at the chance to celebrate their music and look back at their catalog, live performances and collaborations over the years. “As artists now we can’t show up expecting to get people’s attention… there’s less gatekeeping, which is a good thing, so you really have to put in the work,” he tells Billboard. While taking extra time to sit with SiriusXM staffers to record the stories behind the band’s songs and curate the channel during the rush of Rushmere promotional duties, was, in his words, “not ideal,” he says the group was up for the hard work it takes. “We love going where people are,” he says.

“The feedback we get labels or artists when they do these pop-up channels has been really outstanding, so I think there are other aspects beyond increasing consumption numbers,” says SiriusXM head of music Steve Blatter when asked if there’s specific market data he can point to that illustrates a Colbert-like “SiriusXM bump” for either the long-running or time-limited channels (he notes that the company does not share any details on the financial arrangements for its artist channels).

For other artists, particularly those who have year-round stations on the satellite service, it’s less about promoting a project than about promoting a catalog, or even a culture. When LL Cool J launched his year-round Rock the Bells Radio channel in 2018, he wasn’t interested in just putting his name on a channel — he wanted to preserve and elevate timeless hip-hop. “[I] personally went through thousands of tracks to shape something real for the culture,” he says. “Every song, every interview, every moment you hear is chosen with intention.”

Tom Petty‘s daughter, Adria Petty, says that when her dad heard Bob Dylan doing his “Theme Time Radio Hour” shows on SiriusXM’s Deep Tracks channel from 2006 to 2009 — on which the rock bard told rambling stories and played songs around a particular theme — it led him to approach SiriusXM about starting his own channel, realizing the free format would allow him to do something other than talk about his music and lyrics, which “he found to be a hassle,” she says.

While Petty was alive, the channel also gave Petty’s fellow Heartbreakers band members the chance to come on and do their own shows and play deep cuts, live tracks and rarities. “It was that idea that DJs are people who create and curate culture and have fun in communion with people,” says Adria, adding that before her father died in 2017 at age 66, he told her the channel was a crucial part of his legacy.

Today, Adria says the channel not only heightens her dad’s catalog consumption but functions as the “heart and soul” of the estate. The 24-hour channel’s constant presence on the virtual dial impacts the catalog “in a big way,” she says, because there’s a whole team dedicated to programming it, which can help promote re-issues and archival releases.

“When you have an artist produce their channel in the manner we do, it’s not just about spinning their music, but about shaping a culture and cultivating the artist’s fan community and really presenting their legacy in a way that’s very authentic and credible to that artist,” says Blatter. Since Carrie Underwood’s year-round Carrie’s Country channel launched in 2023, it’s been an “amazing avenue” for the country star to connect with her fans, says her manager, The HQ’s Ann Edelblute, who adds that connection “is extremely important to her and the reason she signed on.” Since the launch of Carrie’s Country, the superstar has launched two additional streaming-only channels: Carr-dio by Carrie, featuring the country star’s workout picks; and Savior Sunday Daily, which has a mix of uplifting faith-based country and gospel.

“Both [of the additional channels] allow her to go deeper into areas that she and the fans love,” says Edelblute. “The three channels are a great creative outlet for her as well, as she regularly curates new playlists and loves being able to create new content and special programming year-round.”

Not everyone can have a year-round channel, however. Satellite-distributed services such as SiriusXM have a limited bandwidth to work with, says Blatter, so there’s a fixed number of channels they can offer; any time they add a new channel, they have to drop something else. “I’d love to offer a lot more artists their own year-round channels, but it’s challenging to do so…so the bar to get your own year-round channel becomes fairly high,” he says. Another key factor in who gets a spot is whether an artist’s body of work can hold up to being a year-round draw, according to Blatter. This can include legacy acts like the Dave Matthews Band, Pearl Jam, Springsteen, Grateful Dead and Phish as well as contemporary artists such as Eilish and Lizzo.

As for audience size, Blatter says even the artist channels with the smallest audiences are well-trafficked, though he declined to provide any hard numbers. (A spokesperson for SiriusXM says the company does not publicly share listenership data.)

At this point, SiriusXM has 46 year-round artist partner channels, though a few legendary acts with deep catalogs such as Michael Jackson, Prince, Dolly Parton and Beyoncé are noticeably absent from the permanent lineup (though all except Beyoncé have had limited-run channels in the past). Blatter says he’d love to expand the company’s relationship with any of those artists (or artist estates) into something bigger, noting that sometimes it’s the talent’s choice to only commit to a short-run channel to promote an album release or documentary.

Sometimes it comes down to resources and the artist only wanting to have a presence during a specific promotional window. Or, in the case of a somewhat niche act like Trans-Siberian Orchestra, realizing that interest will peak during the Christmas holiday and then likely drop off shortly after, making a quick hit channel more realistic.

For Mumford, having a SiriusXM channel is a way to engage with fans on a deeper level amid a surge in short-form content that perhaps underestimates audiences’ attention spans. “A lot of your publicity has to be shortened into snippets… yet people’s capacity and attention is greater than ever — they’ll sit and watch 10 hours of a Netflix show,” he says. “I think people want to hear stories in whatever form they come… it felt like a wider palette to paint with.”

Bad Bunny, Selena Gomez & Benny Blanco Lead Billboard’s Inaugural Latin Genre Song Charts

Billboard’s Hot Latin Songs sub-genre charts (dated April 12, 2025) have arrived, spotlighting a variety of format stars across the four new rankings.

The surveys — Hot Regional Mexican Songs, Hot Latin Pop Songs, Hot Latin Rhythm Songs and Hot Tropical Songs — celebrate the accomplishments of Latin artists based on the same multimetric methodology (official U.S. audio and video streaming, radio airplay and sales) used for the pan-genre Hot Latin Songs chart and the all-genre Billboard Hot 100, with data provided by Luminate.

Bad Bunny doubles up, dominating Hot Latin Rhythm Songs with “DTMF” and Hot Tropical Songs with “Baile Inolvidable.” Selena Gomez, Benny Blanco and The Marías join forces to rule Hot Latin Pop Songs with “Ojos Tristes,” and Fuerza Regida and Grupo Frontera claim the top spot on Hot Regional Mexican Songs with “Me Jalo.”

Trending on Billboard

Here’s a deeper look at the four charts’ first leaders, which, notably, take the top four spots on Hot Latin Songs.

Bad Bunny Best on Latin Rhythm, Tropical

Bad Bunny’s “DTMF” is No. 1 on the Hot Latin Rhythm Songs chart with 9.6 million official U.S. streams from March 28 to April 3. On the radio front, the song drew 5.4 million audience impressions — up 18% week-over-week.

“DTMF” also tops the Hot Latin Songs chart for a 12th week, having become the superstar’s sweet 16th No. 1. It’s his sixth song to reign for at least a dozen weeks.

Benito’s “Baile Inolvidable,” meanwhile, tops the first Hot Tropical Songs chart, with 8.3 million streams and 6.1 million in radio reach. The track ranks at No. 4 on Hot Latin Songs, after previously reaching No. 2 on the chart.

Gomez, Blanco & Marías Top Latin Pop

Selena Gomez, Benny Blanco and The Marías’ “Ojos Tristes” crowns Hot Latin Pop Songs fueled by strong streaming and airplay gains. The track, a modern reinterpretation of Jeanette’s British-Spanish classic “El Muchacho De Los Ojos Tristes,” drew 8.7 million U.S. official streams, up 5%. It’s also beginning on radio, with 506,000 in audience.

“Ojos Tristes” ascends from No. 4 to No. 3 in its second week on Hot Latin Songs.

Fuerza Regida, Grupo Frontera Rule Regional Mexican

Fuerza Regida and Grupo Frontera’s “Me Jalo” starts atop the Hot Regional Mexican Songs chart, just one week after simultaneously leading both the Latin Airplay and Regional Mexican Airplay charts. The collab collected 8.1 million streams and 7.5 million in radio audience over the last week. It rises 3-2 for a new high on Hot Latin Songs.

Elon Musk didn’t help convince people he’s good at Path of Exile 2.

Musk, who is reportedly on his way out of the White House, didn’t do much to repair his credibility as a gamer after he admitted to “fraudmaxing” in Path of Exile 2, which is basically paying someone to play the game and level up his character for him.

The billionaire decided to stream himself playing the game while on his private jet during an “airborne continuity test” of his Starlink internet service.

During the stream, Musk was mercilessly trolled by viewers, who attacked the Tesla chief for his “work” with DOGE, laying off government workers in the name of “efficiency” and his wild personal life, making babies, he’s currently at 13 kids.

The stream, which is still on his X profile, lasted about an hour and 45 minutes. Musk rarely said a word, instead staring into the camera while playing the game’s early parts.

Musk died a few times, and he had to create a new character because he played on hardcore (i.e., perma-death) difficulty.

The Trolls Showed Elon Musk No Mercy

It didn’t take long for the trolling to begin. One message said to Musk was, “make it clap for daddy.” Another person claiming to be Ashley St. Clair, one of Musk’s many former partners, and is currently locked into a custody battle over their five-month-old.

Another comment read, “Elon, deep down you will always be cringe no matter how much money or power you have.”

Danny Hayes Exits Danny Wimmer Presents

Danny Hayes is leaving Danny Wimmer Presents, where he has served as chief executive and partner for more than a decade.

“When I first started my career as an entertainment lawyer, I never imagined I’d become a festival promoter,” Hayes wrote in email to friends on April 5. “But then I met Danny Wimmer, and I jumped in headfirst. What started as a partnership quickly became a brotherhood, and over the years, our families grew up alongside the festivals we built. DWP wasn’t just a business—it was our passion, our heart, and our way of life.”

Hayes added that recently, “I have made the difficult decision to move on to my next adventure. After much discussion, Wimmer has reluctantly agreed to let me go and he will continue leading DWP into the future. I have nothing but love, respect, and appreciation for him, and I know he will continue to do great things.”

With Hayes’ help, DWP has grown into one of the largest rock festival promoters in the country with a staple of events that include Aftershock Festival in Sacramento, Bourbon and Beyond and Louder than Life in Louisville, Inkcarceration in Ohio, Sonic Temple in Columbus, Ohio and Welcome to Rockville in Daytona Beach, Florida.

“I’ll always be a fan of DWP,” Hayes writes. “The DWP staff, the fans, the bands, the vendors, the partners, and every single person who has been part of this journey—past and present—have made this an experience I will cherish forever.”

Mexico Says Fyre Fest 2 Jig Isn’t Happening, Billy McFarland Responds

Billy McFarland might need to find a new location for Fyre Fest 2. Mexican officials have said the event is not happening.

As per Complex, the controversial entrepreneur is trying his best to resurrect the biggest music festival that never happened. Since being released from prison in 2022, Billy McFarland has publicized his aspirations to bring the Fyre Fest back to life. On March 25, the brand announced that the Fyre Fest 2 would be hosted in Playa Del Carmen, Mexico, from May 30 to June 2. While the news was met with much skepticism online, Billy continued his promotional efforts with daily posts expressing his excitement.

On April 3, Mexican officials posted an announcement to X, formerly known as Twitter, saying that the event will not be hosted there. “The municipal government of Playa del Carmen informs that no event of that name will be held in our city,” a statement read, shared by Playa del Carmen’s city hall on social media this week. “After a responsible review of the situation, it is confirmed that there are no records, plans, or conditions that indicate the holding of such an event in the municipality.”

As expected, Billy McFarland has commented on the matter and tried to dispel what Mexican authorities shared on social media. “FYRE has been working directly with the government of Playa del Carmen (PDC) and their officials since March 5, 2025 to ensure a safe and successful event. All media reports suggesting our team has not been working with the government of PDC are simply inaccurate and based on misinformation.”

According to TMZ, Fyre Fest event producer Nick Botero says that the Mexican government is “lying completely” and added “we’re not doing any event there and we plan on making it very public and showing all of the evidence.”

The government of Playa Del Carmen has yet to respond.
