BTS‘ Jungkook Explores Qatar in ’Dreamers’ Video Featuring Flying Whales

BTS‘ Jungkook dropped the video for his solo track “Dreamers” on Tuesday (Nov. 22), a kind of travelogue in which the singer explores Qatar, the site of the 2022 FIFA World Cup. The dreamy song that is part of the official soundtrack of the global football classic that kicked off this week in the tiny Middle Eastern country features Jungkook singing alongside Qatari artist Fahad Al-Kubaisi.

The clip opens with a stunned-looking Jungkook wandering through a brightly lit corridor before emerging into a space filled with pulsing lasers as dancers in a market join him on a stroll through the city. Meanwhile, Al-Kubaisi sings his bits from the deck of a huge schooner as Jungkook croons from atop a skyscraper amid images of children watching digital whales break free from the bonds of the ocean and soar above skyscrapers.

The visual ends with Junkook singing the song’s hopeful refrain, “Look who we are, we are the dreamers/ We make it happen, cuz we believe it,” surrounded by dancers holding up flags from around the world. Jungkook premiered the song at the opening ceremonies for the quadrennial international tournament over the weekend.

The solo BTS star is one of the few pop artists who’ve participated in the events surrounding this year’s World Cup, which has come under scrutiny for the process of awarding the bid to the tiny religiously conservative Gulf skeikdom, where homosexuality is a crime and where officials banned a rainbow flag armband meant as a show of solidarity and diversity. Qatar has also come under scrutiny for the thousands of deaths among the migrant workers who helped build the stadiums where the games are being held, with reports that the laborers were paid unfair wages and housed in substandard, broiling conditions in the nation where temperatures can rise above 120 degrees in the summer.

“Dreamers” is Jungkook’s second solo song this year amid BTS’ ongoing hiatus, following on the heels of his “Left and Right” collaboration with Charlie Puth.

Offset Posts Touching Tribute to Takeoff: ‘Missing Everything Bout You’

On Thanksgiving Eve eve, Offset counted the things he’s thankful for, but also something he’s missing: his cousin and late Migos bandmate Takeoff. “Missing everything bout you specially that smile,” Offset wrote on Tuesday (Nov. 22) in a post that featured an image of a slyly smiling Takeoff.

The post came as police still have not named a suspect (or suspects) in the early-morning Nov. 1 killing of Takeoff (born Kirsnick Khari Ball), 28, who was shot outside a downtown Houston bowling alley in an as-yet-unsolved attack. The shooting took place at a private party attended by Takeoff and his uncle, third Migos member Quavo, who was not injured in the incident.

Shortly after a public memorial service for Takeoff in the trio’s home town of Atlanta earlier this month, Offset’s wife, Cardi B, shared her own emotional thoughts about the loss. “Takeoff your untimely passing has brought a great deal of pain and sorrow to so many lives. The impact you had in this world was so considerable and we have struggled to grasp this tragedy,” Cardi wrote on Instagram alongside a photo gallery of Takeoff. “I am heartbroken but I am grateful for all the precious memories we got to share while you were here with us. This has truly been a nightmare and the pain is incomparable.”

Tuesday’s post was the second time Offset has shared his grief publicly. Last week he made his first statement about the loss in an Instagram post in which he wrote, “Dear Take, doesn’t feel real posting you like this….This still doesn’t feel like reality. I’ve been searching for the right words to say, but there aren’t any that will suffice. Until we meet again, Rest In Power. I love you.”

The lengthy letter to Takeoff opened with a measure of how difficult the loss has been, with Offset saying, “Dear Take, The pain you have left me with is unbearable. My heart is shattered and I have so many things to say, but I can’t find the words. I’ve been going to sleep and waking up hoping that all of this is a dream, but it’s reality and reality feels like a nightmare. Every time you would see me, you didn’t give me a dap you gave me a hug. I wish I could hug you one last time.”

On the latest edition, Kique performed The Weeknd’s “Earned It,” Devix hit the Killers’ “When You Were Young,” Alyssa Witrado performed Billie Eilish’s “ocean eyes” and Eric Who tackled Miley Cyrus’ “The Climb.”

As the closing credits rolled out, America, we learned, had saved Kique.

Devix, in particular, can feel unlucky. But his journey on the show, along with those of Witrado and Who, is finished.

“Let’s deal with this, guys,” Gwen Stefani commented before the big moment. “Obviously, Kique is going through, America. That was so amazing. I just want to remind everybody this is a 19-year-old boy. He has a man’s voice. He is so gifted. He is so talented. He is so unique. We have to put Kique through.”

She wasn’t wrong.

Earlier in the week, the Team Gwen standout had performed Stevie Wonder’s “Superstition.” And, before that, Robert “Kique” Gomez shone in the three-way Knockout Round with a performance of another funky classic, OutKast’s “Hey Ya!”

The teenage Miami native now advances, along with Justin Aaron (Team Gwen), Bryce Leatherwood (Team Blake), Omar Jose Cardona (Team Legend), bodie (Team Blake), Morgan Myles (Team Camila), Rowan Grace (Team Blake), Kim Cruse (Team Legend), Brayden Lape (Team Blake) and Parijita Bastola (Team Legend).

The Top 10 singers progress to the season 22 finals. The champion will be chosen by viewers.

Burna Boy Breaks New Ground With U.K. Stadium Concert

Burna Boy is cooking in the U.K., where he’s set to become the first African artist to headline a stadium concert.

The Nigeria-born Afrobeats star (real name Damini Ogulu) leads the lineup for the Love, Damini tour date at London Stadium, set for June 3, 2023.

“London Stadium is going to be my fairground,” he comments. “I’ve been told that I couldn’t achieve anything because of where I came from, I hope this can show people that when you have a dream it doesn’t matter where you’ve come from, your dream can come true.”

The history-making show at London Stadium (formerly the Olympic Stadiu) “is going to be legendary, it’s history and I can’t wait for you all to be a part of that.”

Born in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, Burna Boy has a busy touring schedule for the year ahead, with a range of arena, stadium and festival dates locked-in on both sides of the Atlantic.

The massive London date will be bookended by shows next summer at Paris La Defense and Gelredome Arnhem, a soccer stadium in the Netherlands,

With a capacity north of 60,000, the London Stadium show will be Burna Boy’s largest-ever solo audience. “It will be a landmark first for him or any solo African artist here in the U.K.,” comments Graham Gilmore, CEO of London Stadium, “so it promises to be a special night at the Stadium next June”.

Burna Boy is no stranger to the big occasion. He’s landed nine top 40 hits in the U.K., including a No. 1 for 2019’s “Own It,” with Stormzy and Ed Sheeran. His sixth and latest studio album, Love, Damini, peaked at No. 2 on the Official U.K. Chart in July.

Career highlights include a Grammy Award for 2020’s Twice as Tall (best global music album), a headline show at New York’s Madison Square Garden in April, and sold-out dates at London’s Wembley Arena in November 2019 and at The O2 Arena in August 2021.

He’s appeared twice on the Billboard Hot 100, and with three titles on the Billboard 200 chart, including a best of No. 14 for Love, Damini.

Elton John & His Family Ring In the Holidays With Saks Fifth Avenue Window Reveal

Christmas in America is a time for family togetherness and glitzy commercialism, and New Yorkers were treated to both on Tuesday (Nov. 22) night when Elton John, his husband David Furnish and children Zachary (11) and Elijah (9) helped unveil the Saks Fifth Avenue holiday display.

A police barricade stopped traffic on (the rather busy) Fifth Avenue at 49th Street in Manhattan while a grand piano was wheeled into the middle of Fifth Avenue around 7 p.m. E.T. as onlookers – who were expecting a holiday display reveal but not a Rock and Roll Hall of Famer – marveled. After some introductory remarks from Saks CEO Marc J. Metrick, who announced that Saks was giving a $1 million donation to the Elton John AIDS Foundation’s Rocket Fund, Sir Elton took his rightful place behind the ivories.

“It means a great deal to me to have your support,” John said of the donation. “Thank you so much. I’m so thrilled to kick off the holiday season tonight and to be a part of this spectacular and iconic window unveiling and light show.” At that point, Furnish brought the boys up to join Elton for a family countdown to the big reveal.

Sir Elton – who just played the final North American show of his Farewell Yellow Brick Road Tour on Sunday (Nov. 20) – treated lucky onlookers to a one-and-done performance of his Billboard Hot 100 breakthrough single “Your Song,” a top 10 Billboard Hot 100 hit that began his imposing run on the chart back in 1970 (No hyperbole: We’re talking 29 top 10s, nine No. 1s on the Hot 100).

After reminding audiences why he remains such a treasure with his live prowess and inestimable gifts, Elton joined his family in a seated section of the crowd to watch the lights show. The window extravaganza included a fitting nod to John via a several rocket ships on pistons while seasonally shaded lights tripped the light fantastic on the building’s façade. A medley of Sir Elton’s hits accompanied the display, which found John and Furnish bobbing their heads to “Step Into Christmas” and “Cold Heart (PNAU Remix).”

As fireworks exploded above Saks Fifth Avenue, there was a moment when John reached up to scratch his head – it was almost certainly a biologically motivated move, but it seemed fitting that it occurred when his gentle ballad “Your Song” (playing in its studio version) blasted over speakers to accompany pyro above one of New York City’s most iconic and high-end department stories.

As John detailed in his marvelous memoir Me, he was fortunate enough to happen upon Bernie Taupin’s lyrics to “Your Song” as a struggling artist and was subsequently inspired to compose a melody to match the unabashed sincerity of the words. The idea – heck, the reality – that 50 years later, this gentle ballad would soundtrack an explosive holiday display that temporarily shut down one of the busiest metropolitan areas on earth is remarkably unlikely. But then again, John’s life has been unlikely.

As the fireworks faded and crowd dissipated, John can rest assured one of thing: even as he wraps up, he continues to deliver – and leaves us hungry for more treks down the yellow brick road. No matter how brief.

Rauw Alejandro’s ‘Saturno’ Debuts at No. 2 on Top Latin Albums Chart

Rauw Alejandro claims his fourth straight top 10 on Billboard’s Top Latin Albums chart as Saturno debuts at No. 2 on the Nov. 26-dated ranking.

Saturno, released Nov. 11 via Sony Music Latin, starts with 19,000 equivalent album units earned in the U.S. in the week ending Nov. 17, according to Luminate. Most of the set’s opening sum comprises streaming activity, which equates to 25.63 million on-demand official streams of the album’s songs, while 500 units derive from album sales and track-equivalent album units.

On the multimetric Top Latin Albums chart, each unit equals one album sale, or 10 individual tracks sold from an album, or 3,750 ad-supported or 1,250 paid/subscription on-demand official audio and video streams generated by songs from an album.

The 18-track Saturno is a left turn for Rauw, as the set comprises rhythmic, dance and R&B-peppered tunes, as compared to its Latin trap predecessor, Trap Cake, Vol. 2. The latter reached No. 6 on Top Latin Albums.

In addition to his No. 2 on the Top Latin Albums chart, Saturno also debuts at No. 25 on the all-genre Billboard 200. Previously, Vice Versa took him to a No. 17 high there. Elsewhere, Saturno concurrently launches at No. 2 on Latin Rhythm Albums.

The new album was preceded by two songs on the multimetric Hot Latin Songs chart, starting with “Punto 40,” with Baby Rasta, which peaks at No. 11 on the current ranking as the Greatest Gainer/Streaming track of the week. “Lokera,” with Lyanno and Brray, meanwhile, holds at its No. 12 peak for a second week.

As Saturno arrives, four of the songs of the album debut on the airplay-, streaming data-, and digital sales-blended tally. Plus, “Dime Quién???” re-enters at a No. 36 high.

Here’s the full rundown of Rauw Alejandro’s appearances on Hot Latin Songs this week:

No. 11, “Punto 40,” with Baby Rasta
No. 12, “Lokera,” with Lyanno and Brray
No. 15, “Lejos del Cielo” (debut)
No. 36, “Dime Quién???”
No. 38, “Dejau’,” with DJ Playero
No. 40, “Gatas,” with Chris Palace
No. 44, “Que Rico Chi**gamos”

Further, one of the new seven recruits grants Rauw a sixth visit to the overall Billboard Hot 100 list: “Lokera” at No. 99.

Carey Mulligan Explains How Steven Spielberg Made Debut as Music Video Director With Marcus Mumford Song

Steven Spielberg, one of Hollywood’s most well-known filmmakers and producers, has had a busy year with the release of Jurassic World: Dominion and The Fabelmans, but making his debut as a music video director was probably not initially in the plans.

During a Monday interview on Jimmy Kimmel Live!, actress Carey Mulligan explained how her husband, Marcus Mumford, and Spielberg teamed up to create the music video for his song “Cannibal.” As it turned out, the lead singer of Mumford & Sons needed help with the song’s video before the release of his solo album Self-Titled.

Earlier this year, Mulligan was working on Maestro with Bradley Cooper at the time, with Spielberg executive producing the film. The actress said she previously learned Spielberg’s wife, Kate Capshaw, is a Mumford & Sons fan and sent her Mumford’s latest album.

“Not long after that, we got a video of Steven and Kate dancing in their kitchen to one of the songs,” Mulligan says. ”And it was so lovely and they were so supportive and so sweet.”

Months later, the Great Gatsby actress told Kimmel she was on set, in a makeup bus, when her husband — frantic about getting the music video done — called with an interesting idea.

“He says, ‘We really need a video, and I just had this idea, and would it be mad if like … would it be really rude if we asked Steven?’ And I was like, ‘Steven — sorry, sorry, Steven Spielberg?’” Mulligan explains.

She ended up asking the filmmaker in July, who agreed to direct the video, saying, “They [Mumford and Spielberg] got on the phone and then the next day, they were scouting locations.”

During the interview, Kimmel held up a photo of Spielberg making the video with Mumford. The director can be seen holding an iPhone while on a rolling office chair, filming the singer.

“The message is, if you have a crazy thought, express it…. Follow through with that,” the late-night talk show host responded.

Mulligan’s latest film, She Said, is currently in theaters.

Here Are the Groups or Duos With the Most 2023 Grammy Nominations

When the 65th annual Grammy nominations were announced last week, 12 groups or duos received two or more nods. They include some of the biggest bands in the world — but the group that received the most nods may surprise you.

The groups represented on this list hail from a wide range of genres – alternative music, dance/electronic, R&B, rock and metal, Americana, contemporary Christian and gospel and contemporary instrumental.

There are three duos on the list (Wet Leg, Nova Wav and DOMi & JD Beck). The largest ensembles on the list are the nine-member Maverick City Music and the seven-member BTS.

Two of these acts – Wet Leg and DOMi & JD Beck – are nominated for best new artist. Two more – Idles and Turnstile – vied for nominations in that category but fell short.

Some of these groups were boosted by their involvement with other artists. Lucius received all three of their nominations for work with Brandi Carlile. Nova Wav received both of theirs for work with Beyoncé.

Want to know the groups or duos that have won the most Grammys? U2 is the top group with 22 Grammys, followed by Foo Fighters (15), Alison Krauss & Union Station (14), The Chicks (12), Pat Metheny Group (10) and Emerson String Quartet (nine).

Coldplay has won seven Grammys. They are nominated for three more this year. If they win them all, they’ll tie Pat Metheny Group for fifth place on the leaderboard.

Without further ado, here are the groups or duos that received two or more Grammy nominations this year.

The event, which was curated by Benji B and produced by Virgil Abloh Securities, will be held during Art Basel on Dec. 3 FPL Solar Amphitheater at Bayfront Park in Miami. All profits from the event will benefit the Virgil Abloh Foundation, set to launch next year.

Yves Tumor, Pedro, Venus X, BAMBII, Rampa and Acyde are also set to perform at the festival.

Abloh, who served as men’s artistic director of Louis Vuitton, died in November 2021 at age 41 after a private battle with cancer. He founded the streetwear-focused luxury label Off-White and served as Kanye West’s longtime creative director, later ascending to the prestigious role at Louis Vuitton in 2018, becoming the label’s first African-American artistic director.

“Virgil had the ability to bring everyone together to create magic,” said Abloh’s widow Shannon Abloh — who is also the CEO and managing director of Virgil Abloh Securities — in a press statement to Spin. “With his close collaborators, we wanted to bring everyone together to celebrate Virgil — his legacy, his passion, and his care for others. He believed his real work was championing others and we will continue his work supporting youth in the arts with the launch of the Virgil Abloh Foundation in 2023.”

Tickets go on sale for Mirror Mirror Music festival on Wednesday (Nov. 23) at 10 a.m. ET here.
