Watch HARDY Get in Music City Street Fight on ‘Monday Night RAW,’ Smash Silo Sikoa With Guitar

With numerous chart-topping Country Airplay songs under his belt as an artist and songwriter, HARDY has proven his acumen at using a guitar to craft hits — but it turns out he’s also adept at wielding a guitar in a fight, too.

WWE’s Monday Night RAW on Jan. 2 was held at Nashville’s Bridgestone Arena, and HARDY was there as a special guest, as the Music City Street Fight featured a brawl between wrestler-musician Elias and Solo Sikoa. During the fight, HARDY worked his way up from the audience and into the ring in an attempt to aid Elias, who is known for using musical instruments during his fights. HARDY grabbed an acoustic guitar from the edge of the ring and smashed the instrument across Sikoa’s back.

Anger flashed across Sikoa’s face as he turned toward HARDY. The announcers advised the singer-songwriter to exit the ring, saying, “Run as fast as your little legs will take you. Go to Memphis! Maybe try Texas. You’re not safe here.” HARDY quickly (and safely) exited the ring.

The WWE tweeted a video of the incident, sharing, “HARDY gets in on the action at #WWERaw! @HardyMusic just blasted @WWESoloSikoa with a guitar and, well…take a look!”

HARDY later said during a WWE interview, “It had to be done. Elias, I have a soft spot for musicians. My fellow musician needed some help up there and I felt the need to take it into my own hands.”

HARDY, the 2022 ACM songwriter of the year, is set to release his upcoming album, The Mockingbird and the Crow, on Jan. 20. The album will feature 17 songs traversing country and rock, and will include duets with Lainey Wilson (their current collaboration “Wait in the Truck”), as well as collaborations with Morgan Wallen and A Day to Remember’s Jeremy McKinnon.

Meek Mill Says He’s Dropping an ‘Album Every Quarter’ of 2023

Meek Mill is planning to have an ambitious 2023 when it comes to his music. To ring in the new year, the “All Eyes on You” rapper took to Twitter and Instagram on Sunday (Jan. 1) to share what fans can expect of his creative endeavors this year.

“It’s not even albums nomore [sic] we really making full docuseries music!!!! Scientist!!!!” Mill tweeted, sharing a link to an Instagram post with video previews of several new tracks in a highly produced, cinematic format.

The 35-year-old captioned the video post, “‘Dream catching’ the movie … date soon come #2023 first quarter,” with a series of sparkle emojis. “Leave a comment! I been loading up for a reason let’s ball!”

But that’s not all. Mill told fans on Twitter Jan. 2 that music will be regularly arriving throughout the year, writing, “this year a [sic] album every quarter!!!!!!”

Mill’s fifth studio album, Expensive Pain, was released on Oct. 1, 2021. The set — which features singles “Flamerz Flow,” “Sharing Locations” and “Blue Notes 2,” and guest spots from Lil Baby, Kehlani, Young Thug and more — charted at No. 3 on the all-genre Billboard 200, where it would spent a total of 19 weeks on the chart.

More recently, Mill released the Flamers 5 mixtape on Nov. 22. At the time, he used the release to tease “My album coming in the next 8 weeks.”

Ever since he and Drake traded barbs a few years back, Meek Mill’s rap career has kind of struggled to regain the popularity it once experienced in its heyday. But the Philadelphia rapper is looking to make 2023 his year and has quite an ambitious plan to do just that.

Months after stating that he’d be dropping 10 new mixtapes to keep the streets hot, Meek Mill kicked off 2023 by taking to Twitter and surprisingly announcing that he plans on dropping a new album every quarter of the new year. Posting a link to his Instagram page which features video snippets of what’s to come in ’23, Meek wrote “this year a album every quarter!!!!!!” to let his fans know that he’s going to keep that work coming to keep their heads boppin’ and necks sore.

After years of taking L’s in every aspect of life including his career, personal life, social media, and even on the basketball court, Meek really needs some dubs in 2023. The universe needs to give that man a break. Just sayin.’

No word on when exactly these projects will be dropping but we’re sure his fans can’t wait to get their fill of Mill throughout the next 365 days.

Miley Cyrus Is Dropping Her New Song on Liam Hemsworth’s Birthday … and Fans Have Thoughts

Miley Cyrus is releasing her first solo single in two years on ex-husband Liam Hemsworth’s birthday. Coincidence? Fans don’t think so.

During her NBC New Year’s Eve special over the weekend, the 30-year-old pop star announced that she’d be kicking off her next era with the release of new single “Flowers” on Jan. 13, which is next Friday. It didn’t take long for some fans to figure out why that date in particular rang a bell: Hemsworth, who was married to Cyrus from 2018 to 2020, was born 33 years ago on that exact date.

“Miley releasing her new music on the same day as liam hemsworth’s birthday, january 13. karma is a b—h,” tweeted one delighted fan.

What’s even more eyebrow-raising are the lyrics from “Flowers” that Cyrus has already shared through teaser videos on her YouTube channel. “I can love me better than you can,” she sings on the track in one of the videos, the audio playing over a clip of her strutting through a yard sprinkler in a black bikini.

“NEW YEAR, NEW MILEY, NEW SINGLE,” reads a message at the end.

“Miley’s telling the world she can love herself better ON LIAM’S BIRTHDAY?!” wrote another fan before referencing one of Cyrus’ Hannah Montana era songs, “I Got Nerve.” “She definitely didn’t lie when she said she’s got nerve.”

The “Wrecking Ball” singer first started dating Hemsworth in 2009 while the two were co-starring in The Last Song. They were together on and off for several years, even getting engaged in 2012 before later splitting up. By 2016, the pair were seeing each other again, and at the end of 2018, they were married.

Eight months later, however, Cyrus and the Hunger Games actor had split once and for all. Hemsworth released a statement wishing his ex “health and happiness,” meanwhile Cyrus tweeted shortly after their divorce was finalized in 2020: “I love Liam and always will.”

Two years later, she would call her marriage to him a “f–king disaster” onstage at Lollapalooza Brazil.

Skip Bayless is not afraid to give his awful opinion on matters and offend people, but this time he definitely played himself.

Monday night, the sports world came to a standstill when Buffalo Bills safety Darmin Hamlin passed out after suffering a cardiac arrest following a tackle on Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver Tee Higgins, the team said in a statement.

The unprecedented moment saw an ambulance make its way onto Paycor Stadium field. First responders performed CPR on Hamlin as his teammates and opponents tearfully watched and made a shield around him to keep fans from seeing what was happening.

While that traumatic scene was going on, Skip Bayless was on his Twitter account and let off what many believe was the most horrible take and insensitive tweet ever, which is surprisingly still on his timeline.

“No doubt the NFL is considering postponing the rest of this game – but how? This late in the season, a game of this magnitude is crucial to the regular-season outcome … which suddenly seems so irrelevant,” the sports journalist tweeted.

Bayless’ Undisputed co-host, retired Hall of Famer Shannon Sharpe, took a different tone on his account.

“Please keep Demar Hamlin and his family in your thoughts and prayers. NFL doesn’t have a manual on how to proceed after an incident like this.”

Immediately Bayless’ Tweet caught the ire of Twitter, with many people calling for him to lose his job. “I hope they fire you bro!!! For You to even THINK of the game is very sad,” NBA player Isaiah Thomas said in a tweet.

“On brand! This dude is trash!” retired NFL wide receiver Torrey Smith said in a tweet.

Is Shannon Sharpe Done With Skip Bayless?

Unfortunately, Bayless is still employed by Fox Sports and did show up to work, but his co-host Shannon Sharper was noticeably absent for today’s taping.

Bayless gave what he felt was an apology for his tweet, despite many rolling their eyes and trying to carry on the show himself.

Ciara, Snoop Dogg, Kirk Franklin Offer Prayers For Bills Safety Damar Hamlin After Horrifying ‘MNF’ Injury

The sports world held its collective breath on Monday night (Jan. 2) after Buffalo Bills safety Damar Hamlin fell to the field and was carted off in an ambulance during the team’s anticipated Monday Night match-up with the Cincinnati Bengals. A game that was hyped as potentially being the greatest MNF showdown of all time lasted less than 10 minutes before Hamlin collapsed on the field after suffering what the Bills said was cardiac arrest following a blow to the chest.

The game was suspended and then indefinitely postposed as the nation watched the anguished faces of players on both sides huddled in prayer while awaiting word on Hamlin’s condition; the 24-year-old who joined the Bills in 2021 as a sixth round draft pick was given CPR on the field and then taken to a local Cincinnati hospital, where he is listed in critical condition.

“Praying for Hamlin. Jesus please let everything be ok,” tweeted Ciara along with heart and prayer hands emoji; the singer is married to Denver Broncos QB Russell Wilson, who tweeted, “Wow. I am praying for you @HamlinIsland. Praying for health and safety.” The-Dream also weighed in, writing, “Sending Damar @HamlinIsland Our Thoughts & Prayers RN Let’s go #3!”

Gospel singer Kirk Franklin offered up his own prayer, writing, “Lord, please be with Damar Hamlin, his team, and his family… my heart hurts in this moment for him,” while Snoop Dogg posted an image of a pumped-up Hamlin along with fist bump and prayer hands emoji. In a testament to the seriousness of the incident and the unprecedented nature of such a grave injury resulting in the postponement of a pivotal game in the penultimate week of the season, the Cincinnati Enquirer reported that Bengals and Bills fans set their rivalry aside as they gathered for prayer vigils outside Hamlin’s hospital on Monday night.

Country singer Mickey Guyton also sent her well wishes, as did MC Hammer and distraught Bills QB Josh Allen, who wrote, “Please pray for our brother.” At press time the NFL had not announced when, or if, the game will be completed and there was no update on Hamlin’s treatment or condition.

De La Soul Catalog To Hit Streaming Services In March, At Last

Some good Hip-Hop news at the top of 2023. De La Soul’s catalog of classic music, most of which has been missing from streaming services for years, will finally be available in March.

The group—Dave (fka Trugoy The Dove), Posdnous and Mase—announced on Tuesday (Jan. 3), that their music would be on streamers starting March 2. The date happens to coincide with the anniversary the Long Island Hip-Hop group’s landmark debut album 3 Feet High and Rising.

“The Reservoir and Chrysalis teams have worked with De La Soul, and their record label, AOI, to bring their music to digital streaming services,” said De La in a statement, as reported by Variety. “Reservoir is pleased to share that De La Soul’s first six albums, ‘3 Feet High and Rising’ (1989), ‘De La Soul Is Dead’ (1991), ‘Buhloone Mindstate’ (1993), ‘Stakes Is High’ (1996), ‘Art Official Intelligence: Mosaic Thump’ (2000), and ‘AOI: Bionix’ (2001), will be available to fans everywhere March 3rd, 2023, on the 34th anniversary of the release of their debut album, ‘3 Feet High and Rising.’”

De La Soul’s catalog was largely absent from streaming services due to sample clearance issues. However, in 2021, their catalog on Tommy Boy Records was acquired by Reservoir Media, which has been at work to finally make De La’s music available on services like Spotify and Amazon Music. But that took longer than expected with initial reports saying the music would land back in November 2021.

Mariah Carey’s ‘All I Want for Christmas Is You’ Adds 12th Week Atop Hot 100, Nat King Cole Hits Top 10

Even with the latest data tracking week reflecting four days after Christmas Day (Dec. 23-29), Mariah Carey’s “All I Want for Christmas Is You” holds at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 songs chart, reigning for a 12th total week. It leads for a fourth week this holiday season – the most over any Yuletide season since it began topping the tally annually over the holidays in December 2019.

The song also becomes the second holiday hit to reign for four consecutive weeks, and the first in 64 years, after “The Chipmunk Song,” by David Seville & the Chipmunks, spent four frames at No. 1 beginning in December 1958.

Carey’s “Christmas” leads eight festive favorites in the Hot 100’s top 10 – with carols infusing the top seven spots for the first time. One makes its initial appearance in the tier: Nat King Cole‘s classic “The Christmas Song (Merry Christmas to You),” up from No. 11 to No. 9, as the late legend ranks in the top 10 after an unprecedented break of 59 years, six months and a week. As the song debuted on the chart in 1960, it additionally completes the longest journey to the top 10: over 62 years and three weeks.

The Hot 100 blends all-genre U.S. streaming (official audio and official video), radio airplay and sales data. All charts (dated Jan. 7, 2023) will update on Billboard.com tomorrow (Jan. 4, a day later than usual due to the New Year’s Day holiday). Carey’s “Christmas,” on Columbia Records/Legacy Recordings, was first released on her album Merry Christmas in 1994. As streaming has grown and holiday music has become more prominent on streaming services’ playlists, the song first reached the Hot 100’s top 10 in December 2017 and first hit the top five in the 2018 holiday season, before leading over the holidays in 2019 (for three weeks), 2020 (two), 2021 (three) and this season (a single-season-best four).

Streams, airplay & sales: Carey’s “Christmas” drew 46.9 million streams (down 4%) and 24.6 million radio airplay audience impressions (down 38%) and sold 6,000 downloads (down 47%) in the U.S. Dec. 23-29, according to Luminate.

The song drops to No. 2 on the Streaming Songs chart after 18 cumulative weeks at the summit; to No. 3 on Digital Song Sales following four total frames on top; and to No. 24 from its No. 11 high on Radio Songs.

On the fourth week of ‘Christmas’ … : Up to 12 total weeks, Carey’s “Christmas” expands its record for the most time atop the Hot 100 for a holiday song. The only other seasonal single to lead, “The Chipmunk Song,” by David Seville & the Chipmunks, spent, as noted above, four weeks at No. 1 beginning in December 1958.

The two songs now share the mark for the most consecutive frames atop the Hot 100 – four each – for a Yuletide title, as well as the most in any singular holiday season.

In the fifth year of ‘Christmas’ … : With this week’s Hot 100 dated Jan. 7, 2023, Carey’s “Christmas” is the first song to lead Hot 100 charts dated in five distinct years (2019, 2020, 2021, 2022 and now 2023). No other song has reigned in more than two individual years.

Happy new year: Carey has now placed at No. 1 on the Hot 100 in a record-extending 19 distinct years (per Hot 100 chart dates): 1990-2000, 2005-06, 2008 and, thanks to “Christmas,” 2019-23.

Next up are three acts that have each spent time atop the Hot 100 in 10 individual years: Paul McCartney/Wings (1971, 1973-76, 1978, 1980, 1982-84; additionally, The Beatles, with him as a member, led in seven years: 1964-70); Michael Jackson (1972, 1979-80, 1983-84, 1987-88, 1991-92, 1995; additionally, The Jackson 5, with him in the group, led in 1970); and Madonna (1984-87, 1989-92, 1995, 2000).

Carey’s third No. 1 of 12 weeks or more: Carey becomes the second artist, and first woman, with three songs that have topped the Hot 100 for 12 or more weeks each. She joins Boyz II Men for the honor – with Carey and the group having teamed for one song contributing to the feat:

Longest span atop the Hot 100: Carey’s “Christmas” extends the longest span from a song’s first week at No. 1 on the Hot 100 to its latest, to over three years and two weeks (Dec. 21, 2019-Jan. 7, 2023).

Plus, the latest week atop the Hot 100 for “Christmas” stretches Carey’s record for the longest span of an artist ranking at No. 1 on the chart to 32 years and five months, dating to her first week atop the list dated Aug. 4, 1990, with her debut single “Vision of Love.”

Carey’s record 91st week atop Hot 100: With “Christmas,” Carey adds her record-extending 91st week at No. 1 on the Hot 100, dating to the chart’s Aug. 4, 1958, inception.

“Christmas” became Carey’s 19th Hot 100 No. 1, the most among soloists and one away from The Beatles’ overall record 20. It also made Carey the first artist to have ranked at No. 1 on the chart in four distinct decades, dating to her first week on top with “Vision of Love.” “Christmas” is additionally the only title to have led in four separate runs on the survey.

No. 1 on Holiday 100: Carey’s “Christmas” concurrently crowns the multi-metric Holiday 100 chart for a 57th week, of the chart’s 62 total weeks since the list originated in 2011. It has led the list for 42 consecutive weeks, dating to the start of the 2015-16 holiday season, and rules as the top title on the Greatest of All Time Holiday 100 Songs chart.

Brenda Lee’s “Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree,” originally released in 1958, keeps at its No. 2 Hot 100 high (for a ninth total week since it first reached the rank in December 2019) and tops the Streaming Songs chart, dancing merrily from No. 2, for the first time. (Its total of raw streams is the week’s second-highest – 46.87 million, just below the 46.895 million logged by Carey’s “Christmas” – but Lee’s hit leads Streaming Songs due to the application of weighting to all titles’ paid/subscription and ad-supported on-demand streams and programmed/radio streams.) “Tree” also drew 20.9 million in airplay audience (down 29%) and sold 2,000 (down 58%).

The late Bobby Helms’ “Jingle Bell Rock,” originally released in 1957, holds at its No. 3 Hot 100 high, reached in each of the last four holiday seasons; Wham!’s “Last Christmas,” from 1984, rises to a new No. 4 best, from No. 5, after it hit the top five for the first time a week earlier; and the late Burl Ives’ “A Holly Jolly Christmas,” from 1964, retreats to No. 5 from its No. 4 peak, achieved over each of the last four Yuletide seasons.

Andy Williams’ “It’s the Most Wonderful Time of the Year,” from 1963, keeps at No. 6 on the Hot 100; it hit a No. 5 high during the 2020 holidays. The song’s latest week in the top 10 extends the late singer’s record for the longest span of an act appearing in the tier to nearly 63 years and three months, dating to his first week in the top 10 with “Lonely Street” in October 1959.

José Feliciano’s “Feliz Navidad,” from 1970, rises 8-7 on the Hot 100; it reached a No. 6 best over the 2020 holidays.

Notably, holiday hits shine like ornaments in the Hot 100’s top seven spots for the first time in the chart’s history.

Taylor Swift’s “Anti-Hero” rebounds 9-8 on the Hot 100 after spending its first six weeks on the chart at No. 1, starting in November. It concurrently leads Radio Songs for a second week, with 80.3 million in audience (up 1%).

Nat King Cole’s “The Christmas Song (Merry Christmas to You)” climbs from its prior No. 11 Hot 100 high (first reached over the 2018 holidays) to No. 9, with 27.4 million streams (down 4%), 15.5 million in airplay audience (down 30%) and 1,000 sold (down 41%).

The song, which Cole first recorded while fronting the King Cole Trio in 1946, becomes his third Hot 100 top 10, following “Ramblin’ Rose” (No. 2, 1962) and (opposite in theme from “Christmas”) “Those Lazy-Hazy-Crazy Days of Summer” (No. 6, 1963). Cole, who passed away in 1965, places in the top 10 for the first time in 59 years, six months and a week, rewriting the record for the longest break between hits in the region set last holiday season by The Ronettes, whose “Sleigh Ride” led the group back to the top 10 after a wait of 58 years and two months.

Before this week, Cole last ranked in the top 10 of the Hot 100 dated June 29, 1963. That week, Kyu Sakamoto’s “Sukiyaki” spent its third and last week at No. 1 and other enduring top 10s included Lesley Gore’s “It’s My Party” (No. 2), The Chiffons’ “One Fine Day” (No. 7) and Jan & Dean’s “Surf City” (No. 10).

(After August 1966, Cole was not credited on a Hot 100 hit until “Christmas” returned over the 2013 holidays. He was, however, heard on daughter Natalie Cole’s virtual duet with him, “Unforgettable,” which reached No. 14 in 1991 and won, among other Grammy Awards, record of the year in 1992.)

Plus, Cole’s “Christmas” wraps the longest ascent to the Hot 100’s top 10, dating to its debut on the Dec. 12, 1960, chart. Its odyssey of 62 years and 26 days narrowly surpasses that of Chuck Berry’s “Run Rudolph Run” (62 years and 18 days) for the most time a song has taken to hit the top 10 from its debut; “Rudolph” arrived in 1958 and lit up the top 10 at last over the 2020 holidays.

Rounding out the latest Hot 100’s top 10, Sam Smith and Kim Petras’ “Unholy” repeats at No. 10, after it led the Oct. 29-dated chart.

Billy Porter, Niecy Nash & More Set to Present on 2023 Golden Globes

Billy Porter, Niecy Nash, Quentin Tarantino, Jamie Lee Curtis and Tracy Morgan are among the presenters for the 2023 Golden Globe Awards. 

Ana De Armas, Ana Gasteyer, Colman Domingo, Michaela Jaé Rodriguez, Natasha Lyonne and Nicole Byer will also present on the show, which is set to air live coast-to-coast on Jan. 10 from 5-8 p.m. PT/8-11 p.m. ET on NBC and streaming on Peacock.

As previously announced, Jerrod Carmichael will host the ceremony, which will held at the Globes’ usual home, the Grand Ballroom of the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Beverly Hills. Calif. Eddie Murphy will be the recipient of the 2023 Cecil B. DeMille Award. Ryan Murphy will receive the Carol Burnett Award.

Pianist Chloe Flower is set to perform. Flower’s eponymous debut album, released on Sony Music Masterworks, reached the top five on Billboard‘s Classical Crossover Albums chart in March 2022. Flower performed at the Kennedy Center Honors, which aired Dec. 28 on CBS, on behalf of honoree Tania Leon. Flower plans to release a new song, “Golden Hour,” inspired by her Globes appearance.

The Banshees of Inisherin is this year’s most-nominated film, with eight nods, followed by Everything Everywhere All at Once, with six nods. Abbott Elementary is the most-nominated TV show, with five nods.
