PodcastOne President Faces Lawsuit Claiming He Fired Assistant for Refusing to Ship Weed

The president and co-founder of PodcastOne, Chris “Kit” Gray, is facing a lawsuit filed by his former executive assistant, who says she was fired after refusing to ship cannabis products legally purchased in California to his home in Florida where cannabis is illegal. PodcastOne is also named as a defendant in the complaint.
Cherri Bell, an executive assistant with more than 20 years of experience including seven years at PodcastOne — which was purchased by media company LiveOne in 2020 — alleges that she was terminated on Feb. 10 in retaliation for refusing two requests by Gray to ship cannabis vape pens, gummies and other THC products across state lines through FedEx.
The suit, filed by Bell’s attorney Timothy McCaffrey Jr. in Los Angeles Superior Court on Friday (Feb. 24), claims that after relocating his residence from California to Florida “in or around November 2021,” Gray “began planning trips to the Los Angeles area beginning in January 2022” and, following each of those visits, asked Bell “to ship various items to his home in Florida in random boxes that she was instructed to collect from around the office” using the company’s FedEx account.
“On or around” Oct. 18, 2022, the suit continues, Gray sent Bell a text message requesting that she ship some clothing to his family in Florida along with another package he left at the office. “In this text he also thanked her and mentioned again that he did not want to take the contents [of the package] on the plane and that he was nervous keeping it at the office,” the complaint reads. Inside the package, Bell claims she found “smoking paraphernalia from a marijuana dispensary including vape pens and vials” and subsequently decided not to ship the items after determining it was illegal to send drugs and drug paraphernalia across state lines.
Bell was right: While marijuana possession is legal in a number of states, possession and transportation are barred at the federal level under the Controlled Substances Act. Using FedEx as a drug courier to ship more than 50 grams of cannabis can land a person in federal prison for five years.
When Gray allegedly asked about the package weeks later, Bell says she responded via text that she did not feel comfortable sending the envelope. Gray then allegedly responded, “‘Oh I wouldn’t sweat that,’ completely dismissive of Plaintiff’s concern even though he had admitted to Plaintiff that he was nervous about carrying the package and leaving it at the office,” the complaint reads. Gray also allegedly told Bell he wished she would have told him earlier, “since apparently his supply was running low,” and that he had shipped “similar items approximately ten times in the past.”
Two days later, Gray allegedly asked Bell to drop off the package, along with a few bags of “gummy bears,” with another female employee, who would take care of the shipment. Following this incident, Bell claims she “noticed a definite change in her working relationship with Gray and the way he treated her,” according to the complaint.
The lawsuit alleges that Gray began to retaliate against Bell in the days and weeks that followed, including by delaying repayment of her expense report, giving her negative performance reviews and attempting to isolate her from the rest of the staff. While Bell was on medical leave for work-induced stress, it continues, Gray terminated her.
Bell is suing Gray and PodcastOne for illegal retaliation, wrongful termination and failure to pay wages upon termination.
Billboard made multiple attempts to reach Gray and PodcastOne/LiveOne officials but did not receive a response.

Hypebeast is reporting that the upcoming “Hip Hop Royalty Boot” has just hit the digital shelves on Timberland. Senior Footwear Designer Chris Dixon’s creation has the kind of details that sneakerheads and boot lovers would appreciate. Along with the standout colorway, details such as the “Sedgwick Avenue” street sign on the tongue and the tree logo on the heel looking like it was graffiti’d on, make these a must-have for any collection out there. But that’s not all.
In conjunction with the release, Timberland partners with CNSTNT DVLPMNT to curate youth mentorship and community activations to advance the representation of Black, Indigenous, and People of Color designers in the footwear industry.
“Having the opportunity to design in celebration of both boot and Hip Hop culture is a huge honor for me,” said senior footwear designer Chris Dixon. “The Hip Hop Royalty Boot project is Timberland’s way of giving Hip Hop its flowers and showing appreciation for what they have done for the brand. I am really happy to partner with Timberland and give young creatives something I did not have as a kid, which is the empowerment of creativity.”
We love it.

KISS Announces Final Shows Ever: ‘We’re Finishing Up Where We Started’

It’s official: KISS shared the news on Wednesday (March 1) that they’ll be hitting the road for their last run of concerts ever.
The veteran glam rockers made the announcement during a sit-down on The Howard Stern Show, telling the host, “Dec. 1 and 2 is Madison Square Garden. Those are the last two shows of the band. We’re finishing up where we started.”
Ahead of the back-to-back nights at the iconic New York City venue, KISS will play 17 other shows across the U.S. and Canada as part of its End of the Road World Tour, including stops in Los Angeles, Seattle, Calgary, Montreal, Toronto and Baltimore.
“Look, some people have kind of snickered and said, ‘Oh this End of the Road tour’s gone on for years,’” Paul Stanley continued. “Yeah, we lost two and a half years to COVID. We would’ve been done already! So, yes, this is the end.”
Prompted by Stern, Gene Simmons said he’s almost certain he’ll be emotional once the band reaches its final performances. “I kid around a lot about, ‘Men don’t do that,’” he added. “I’m sure I’m gonna cry like a 9-year-old girl whose foot’s being stepped on. KISS was born on 23rd Street. It’s only taken us 50 years to go play the final shows 10 blocks away on 33rd Street, which is Madison Square Garden.”
Last month, Stanley starred in Workday’s Super Bowl commercial along with fellow rockers Joan Jett, Billy Idol, Ozzy Osbourne and Gary Clark Jr.

Justin Bieber Appears to Cancel All Remaining Justice Tour Dates

After Frontier Touring announced on Tuesday (Feb. 28) that Justin Bieber‘s planned six-date, five-city Australasian leg of his Justice World Tour was canceled, the rest of the singer’s scheduled 2023 dates appear to also been called off.
No reason was given for the cancellation of the stadium gigs in Australia and New Zealand, and at press time, spokespeople for Bieber and the tour had not returned Billboard‘s requests for comment.
The Ticketmaster site listed all the 2023 Justice dates as canceled on Wednesday (March 1); the tour was scheduled to pick up in Dublin at the 3Arena on Thursday (March 2), followed by a four-night stand in Paris and a gig in Poland.
Bieber’s official website has no tour dates listed and, according to the Ticketmaster site, his handful of 2024 U.S. arena shows have also been canceled. CNN reported that fans in London — where Bieber was originally slated to perform in February — got an email from event company AXS on Tuesday night that read, “We regret to inform you that the Justin Bieber shows planned to take place at The O2 arena have been cancelled.” A note on the site for the Utilita Arena in Sheffield also confirmed that the Feb. 25 gig there had been canceled.
In June, Bieber told fans that he would take a break from the road after one month of dates because of the effects of the neurological disorder Ramsay-Hunt Syndrome, which left his face partially paralyzed. “As a result of this illness, I was not able to complete the North American leg of the Justice Tour,” he wrote in a message to fans at the time. Bieber went on to explain that after taking some time to rest and consult with his family and doctors, he went ahead with the European leg of his tour.
“After getting off stage, the exhaustion overtook me and I realized that I need to make my health the priority right now,” he explained about how he felt after completing his Rock in Rio set in September. “So I’m going to take a break from touring for the time being. I’m going to be ok, but I need time to rest and get better.”
He got back on the stage a month later, but after just six shows he said he need to take a break again. The AEG Presents-promoted Justice tour was Bieber’s first global outing since the 2016-2017 Purpose World Tour.
The outing was originally supposed to launch in 2020 as the Changes Tour, but was postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic and delayed until 2021, then to February 2022. But after playing gigs across North America through June 2022 as well as a series of overseas dates, he came off the road to heal from the effects of Ramsay-Hunt, pulling the plug on all remaining 2022 dates through December.

Keke Palmer and her boo, Darius Jackson, celebrated the birth of their son on Monday and revealed that his name is Leodis Andrellton Jackson, who has the baby-naming brigade sharing their thoughts.
Okay, we can’t front. Celebrities are doing too damn much when naming their children, to the point their pets have better names.
This is not one of those cases here.
Palmer is understandably ecstatic to welcome her son into the world and introduce him to her fans in an Instagram gallery featuring videos and, of course, a photo of baby Leodis. In the caption, she begins, “Hey Son!!!!,” before writing “Born during Black History Month, with a name to match. LEODIS ANDRELLTON JACKSON, welcome to the world, baby Leo.”
No kidding that is a very STRONG, Black name.
As with any celebrity baby name reveal, social media always has thoughts. One Twitter user wrote, “That name sound like it led a civil rights March.”
Palmer, easily one of the wittiest celebs on Twitter, responded, “It’s giving I marched with Martin, purrrr.”
Ha, gotta love Keke Palmer.
Still, plenty of other people have some thoughts about the child’s name like Britni Danielle, the senior culture editor at ESPN’s Andscape, wrote, “Who granddaddy Keke’s baby named after??”
Another Twitter user wrote, “Keke Palmer said she bringing back the strong BLACK names. The great granddaddy names! She said her son gone know how to chop wood, start fires & build houses with his bare hands.”
Keke Palmer Told Us Her Son’s Name Was Going To Be Black ASF
To her credit, the actress put us on notice ahead of time about her son’s name, stating, “It gives Black American storyline,” and “We’re not going for anything too unique. It’s not about to be Stone and Sand. It’s just like a nice natural [name].”
Mission accomplished.
You can peep more reactions to Keke Palmer’s son’s name in the gallery below.
