Jason Mraz to Kick Off Grammy Museum’s ‘Sunday Brunch With…’ Series

Jason Mraz will kick off The Grammy Museum’s “Sunday Brunch With…” series, a fundraiser for the museum’s Grammy in the Schools education programs.

The inaugural event will be held on Sunday April 2 at VERSE LA, a restaurant in Los Angeles’ Toluca Lake neighborhood. Guests will eat a three-course brunch while listening to music performed by a jazz trio assembled by a Grammy in the Schools education program alumni. Following the meal, Mraz will perform for 45 minutes. The brunch begins at noon, Mraz’s performance begins at 1:30 p.m.

Tickets, priced at $350, include open bar and three-course brunch (vegetarian, vegan, gluten free and dairy free options available) and complimentary valet parking. Tickets are tax deductible.

This inaugural event is presented by Union Bank and supported by VERSE LA, which is owned by long-time Grammy Museum supporter and 11-time Grammy-winning mixer, Manny Marroquin.

Marroquin won a Grammy for record of the year on Feb. 5 for his work on Lizzo’s “About Damn Time.” He won album of the year last year for his work on Jon Batiste’s We Are. He has won two awards each for work with Lizzo and Alicia Keys and one award each for work with Mary Mary, Kanye West, John Legend, John Mayer, Bruno Mars, Rihanna and Batiste.

Mraz is a two-time Grammy winner. He won both awards on the 2010 telecast – best male pop vocal performance for “Make It Mine” and best pop collaboration with vocals for “Lucky,” a collab with Colbie Caillat.

The Grammy Museum’s music education programs annually impact more than 35,000 K-12 students and teachers across the U.S.

Megan Thee Stallion Will Return to Houston For First Concert of 2023

Megan Thee Stallion is returning to the stage. The “Sweetest Pie” rapper will be headlining AT&T Block Party as part of the 2023 NCAA March Madness Music Festival. Slated to take place in Megan’s hometown of Houston, the three-day weekend will begin March 31 during NCAA Men’s Final Four and continue until April 2, with Megan’s headlining performance leading the way.

Held at Houston’s Discovery Green Park, AT&T will use its Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra smartphones to film the concert through multiple camera angles. Fans can register for the show and live-stream the event here. “There’s no place I’d rather be for my first performance of the year than my hometown of Houston,” Megan said in a statement. “The AT&T Block Party Concert is gonna be such a vibe, and I can’t wait to get back on stage in the city where it all began. I’m looking forward to seeing my Hotties and putting on an unforgettable show for them.”

The rest of the weekend will include more superstar performances — day two will feature Lil Nas X and Maggie Rogers while day three will offer Tim McGraw, Keith Urban, Little Big Town and Mickey Guyton.

December 2022 served as the conclusion to the Megan Thee Stallion-Tory Lanez saga, when the Canadian rapper was found guilty on three charges from a July 2020 shooting in Los Angeles. The jury convicted Lanez on the following charges: assault with a semiautomatic firearm, carrying a loaded unregistered firearm in a vehicle and discharge of a firearm with gross negligence.

Ahead of their debut album coming next Friday (March 17) and their performance at Billboard Presents The Stage at SXSW on March 18, the pair sat down for our latest cover story to talk about life as two of EDM’s elder statesmen.

In the piece, deadmau5 shares that “I don’t think I’m going to be f–king donning a mau5head in my 50s,” referring to his signature helmet and his plans to retire it in the next decade. (deadmau5 is 42, while Kaskade is 51.) deadmau5 adds that he’s considering managing acts from his indie label, mau5trap, as he gets older and tours less.

Noting that he and Kaskade broke through “right at the turning point” when EDM was the world’s most lucrative genre, deadmau5 says their respective businesses have developed so that most of their revenue is currently “in ancillary goods — tangible items [like merchandise], appearances, shows, production.”

Kaskade’s manager Ryan Henderson also notes that the pair put major money into Kx5 live performances, with their record-setting show last December at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum costing “almost seven figures to design and over seven figures to execute.”

But while such investments affect the Kx5 bottom line, so too does the pairing feed each artist’s residual revenue streams, with Henderson adding that Kaskade just signed a three-year, eight-figure Las Vegas residency deal. “I’m not saying the Kx5 brand contributed to that,” Henderson notes, “but it definitely didn’t hurt it.”

And with the pair having influenced the next generation of dance artists, the story also reveals that current scene phenom John Summit, who opened for Kx5 at the Coliseum show, will release the first-ever official remix of “I Remember” later this year.

Here’s Why Fans Think Miley Cyrus Accused Liam Hemsworth of Cheating on ‘Muddy Feet’

Some fans think Liam Hemsworth’s fingerprints — or should we say, footprints — are all over Miley Cyrus‘ new album Endless Summer Vacation, which dropped midnight Friday (March 10).

More specifically, many have speculated that track nine on the album, “Muddy Feet,” calls out Hemsworth for being unfaithful during their relationship. “You smell like perfume that I didn’t purchase,” Cyrus sings on the record, a collaboration with Sia. “Now I know why you’ve been closing the curtains/ Get the f–k out of my house.”

Later on the song, she sings, “Always questioning my questioning/ Get thе f–k out of my head with that s–t.”

Of course, Cyrus doesn’t mention the Hunger Games actor by name; however, her former romance with Hemsworth is objectively the musician’s longest and most well-known public relationship. The two first met in 2009 on set of The Last Song, and dated on and off for the better part of a decade. In 2018, they got married before promptly splitting a few months later in 2019.

The length and rockiness of the former couple’s relationship has led fans to connect much of Cyrus’ new music to Hemsworth, including her Billboard Hot 100 No. 1 Endless Summer Vacation lead single. On “Flowers,” the Hannah Montana star confidently sings about her ability to love herself better than her former partner, believed by many to be Hemsworth, ever could.

There’s also the not-so-subtle fact that Cyrus literally released “Flowers” on Jan. 13 this year, aka Hemsworth’s 33rd birthday. So, there’s that.

Sneaker Company Allbirds Files For IPO

Is it going to be “Grand opening, Grand Closing” for sneaker brand Allbirds Inc.? It kind of looks that way if stock prices are any indication.

According to Bloomberg the sneaker brand took a major hit on the stock exchange after going public just 18 months ago as share tanked as if they had a celebrity spokesperson spitting antisemitic rhetoric on social media. Things have gotten so bad that Allbirds will be hitting the pause button on opening new stores and have even replace their Chief Financial Officer Mike Bufano with former Adidas AG, Annie Mitchell.

Revenue in the three months through December sank 13% to $84.2 million, trailing the average analyst of $96.7 million. Joey Zwillinger, the company’s co-chief executive officer and co-founder, said Allbirds, which makes shoes from wool and eucalyptus, tried to win over more younger consumers and runners, but those products missed expectations.

“We just didn’t see the sell-through on those franchises that we would’ve hoped for, and that came at the expense of that core franchise,” Zwillinger said in an interview. “We took our eye off the ball a little bit.”

Though Allbirds took a net loss of $101.4 million last year, it still pales in comparison to adidas $540 million loss after cutting ties with Kanye West. Still, adidas is a monster in the game and can take that kind of loss and keep things moving. The same cannot be said about Allbirds which is looking to get stabilize their business before they can fly high again.

“We know we disappointed in 2022,” the company said to begin an investor presentation. “Decisive action” is being taken in what Allbirds described as a “transition” year.

Anytime you take a loss in the business game the best you can do is say it’s a “learning lesson” or it’s just a “transition” into a new direction. Still, it’s L’s regardless. Just sayin.’

The Weeknd Matches Michael Jackson for Hot 100 History

The Weeknd is correct! With “Die for You” soaring to No. 1 on the latest, March 11-dated Billboard Hot 100, he joins Jackson as the only male soloists with multiple leaders on the chart from three albums.

(The feat is based on counting “Die for You” from Starboy, on which it was originally released in 2016, six-plus years before its new remix, with Ariana Grande, sparked its coronation. For Billboard’s charts, all versions of the song roll up into one chart listing.)

Overall, the club of acts with multiple Hot 100 No. 1s originally released on three, or more, albums, is exclusive – just seven members, with The Weeknd its newest since 2001. Two of those acts have notched multiple leaders from more than three albums each: Mariah Carey, the leader with six, and The Beatles, with four.

Meanwhile, here are a few star collaborators that have nearly each pulled off a pair of Hot 100 chart-toppers, each missing by just one position:

An ’80s Hit That ‘Ties’ Into This Week

With “Die for You” hitting No. 1 on the Hot 100 after a six-year-plus wait, the second-longest from a debut on the chart, I thought of a song that should be noted among those that took long routes to the top: “At This Moment” by Billy Vera & The Beaters. The ballad peaked at No. 79 its first time out, as a live version, in 1981 and, thanks to a newer studio recording, hit No. 1 over five years and four months later, in January 1987.

Thanks, Ron. Great observation. The song hit No. 1 at last sparked by its synch in NBC’s Family Ties. “I am grateful to have written a standard that will live long after I’m gone,” Vera said in an in-depth 2021 interview that chronicles the song’s comeback.

The only reason that it isn’t considered among the songs with the longest climbs to No. 1 on the Hot 100 from a debut is that when it returned to the chart, it was treated as a debut, not a re-entry, as it was, as you point out, an entirely new recording, as opposed to a remix, and on a different label (Rhino Records, marking its first leader) than when it was first released.

The song also wasn’t the only one to return in a new form, and as a debut on the Hot 100, during that era. The Righteous Brothers’ “Unchained Melody” likewise charted as a new entry, thanks to a re-recording, on Curb Records (as a cassette single), and hit No. 19 in November 1990.

Meanwhile, the duo’s original version, on Verve/Polydor (on vinyl), re-entered, after reaching No. 4 in 1965, and rose to No. 13 in October 1990.

So, two versions of the classic charted on the Hot 100 simultaneously. Or, put another way, and to reference a movie from the early ’90s this time, ditto.

Jonas Brothers Say ‘The Album’ Will Be Inspired By ’70s Influences’

Jonas Brothers opened up about the sound of their upcoming album, The Album, in a new interview on Wednesday (March 8).

“We’re taking the roots of what our sound is, but also going back to our roots and pulling from those ‘70s influences we grew up listening to,” Nick Jonas teased at Spotify’s Stream On event to E! News.

Joe Jonas jumped in to add: “A lot of things happened obviously in the last couple of years, so we never got the time to just connect, stay in one room and work on new music. To be able to do that and have that outcome that we had, we are so thrilled.”

Among the references the siblings point to on The Album include sounds from the 1970s like the Bee Gees, Boston and Stevie Wonder.

Kevin Jonas also teased the Brothers’ plans to hit the road later this year to promote the studio set. “We haven’t announced the tour, but it will be coming very soon,” he said. “We are going to be doing a bunch of shows leading up to the album release as well. A lot of exciting things this year and the years to come.”

Prior to The Album‘s May 12 release, Joe, Kevin and Nick will also be taking over the Marquis Theater in New York City for a five-night residency on Broadway. Each night starting next Tuesday (March 14), they’ll highlight one of of their past albums — from 2007’s Jonas Brothers to 2019’s Happiness Begins — before performing their new album live for the first time. This week, they also announced a one-night-only show at London’s Royal Albert Hall set for April 14.

Animated Series ‘Batman: Caped Crusader’ Coming To Amazon

HBO Max might’ve had no use for a Batman: Caped Crusader series, but Amazon Prime certainly feels like they can work wiith a new animated Batman series and truth be told, we agree.

According to Deadline, Amazon will be picking up the J.J. Abrams, Matt Reeves and Bruce Timm animated Batman series a few years after HBO Max passed on the project, which was supposed to hit their streaming service back in 2021. Unfortunately for Abrams and company, the Caped Crusader series was one of six animated projects that was axed by Warner Bros. Discovery streamer due to its cost-cutting maneuvers.

Surprisingly with the success of Matt Reeves’ The Batman, you’d think Warner Bros. would circle back to the animated series, especially since they decided to give The Penguin his own spinoff saga. But ultimately Amazon swooped in looking for another dub to it’s already successful streaming platform.

From Deadline:

Batman: Caped Crusader is a “reimagining” of the Batman mythology, based on the characters from DC.

It is produced by Warner Bros. Animation, Bad Robot Productions and 6th & Idaho with Timm,  Abrams, Reeves, Sam Register, Ed Brubaker exec producing.

Timm is behind the classic Batman: The Animated Series, which ran for over 100 episodes in the mid-90s.

’80s babies remember just how next level Batman: The Animated Series was so y’all know we’re looking forward to what he has in store for a new Batman mythology. HBO Max might’ve dropped the ball on this one. Just saying.

No word on when we can expect Amazon to premier Batman: Caped Crusader, but we wouldn’t be surprised if it happens around the same time that the sequel to Matt Reeves’ The Batman drops, which should be some time in 2025.

RoboCop issues out his brand of justice in a new gameplay trailer.

Teyon Games aims to deliver the superior experience as the law enforcement cyborg in its RoboCop: Rogue City video game.

The gameplay overview trailer was dropped during publisher, Nacon’s, Nacon Connect showcase showing not only show RoboCop taking out thugs with his trusty auto-9, and knocking them clear across the room, but also handing out parking tickets. We are very serious about that last part.

We also learned the game will be coming out later than expected with its new release date.

Take Out Criminals & Hand Out Parking Tickets In RoboCop: Rogue City

The trailer shows the popular late 80s early 90s action film character patroling the crime infested streets of Old Detroit. Using his computer programmed detective skills we see Alex Murphy root out a drug den in the basement of an arcade.

Once he finds the perps, he whips out his auto-9, and even switches to a machine gun to vicisouly take out the criminals stupid enough to think they can stop RoboCop. The trailer also showcase exactly how bloody this game will be, which should be a welcome sign to fans of the RoboCop film franchise.

Blowing away crooks is not the only thing RoboCop will do in Rogue City. As mentioned above we see him the cyborg cop handing out a ticket to a car parked too close to a fire hydrant.

Another big deal is the fact Peter Weller, the actoer who played Alex Murphy/RoboCop in the first two films lends his voice for the game. He doesn’t sound exactly like he does in the films, but we’re gonna chop that it up to the fact he is 75-years-old now.

Still, this one of the games we are very curious about and are looking forward to playing RoboCop: Rogue City when it drops in September on on PlayStation 5, Windows PC, and Xbox Series X.

No word if this game will be on the Nintendo Switch.
