Rapper MoneySign Suede Dies at 22 in California Prison Stabbing

Rapper MoneySign Suede has died after he was stabbed in a shower at a California prison, authorities and his attorney said.

Jaime Brugada Valdez, 22, of Huntington Park was found in the shower area of the Correctional Training Facility in Soledad State Prison shortly before 10 p.m. Tuesday, according to a statement from the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation.

Despite life-saving efforts, he died at a prison medical facility.

The agency didn’t detail his injuries but said his death was being investigated as a homicide.

“They said it was a stabbing to the neck,” Valdez’s attorney, Nicholas Rosenberg, told the Los Angeles Times.

Suede signed to Atlantic Records in 2021 and released his most recent album Parkside Baby in September, the Times said.

The Monterey County prison houses more than 4,000 minimum- and medium-security inmates.

Valdez was sent there after being sentenced in Riverside County in December to serve two years and eight months on two charges of being a convicted felon in possession of a gun, according to state corrections officials.

Fat Joe Fights for Health Care Price Transparency at Capitol Hill

Fat Joe is using his platform for a good cause.

The 52-year-old rapper flew down to Washington D.C. on Wednesday (April 26) as a spokesperson for Power to the Patients, which advocates for health care billing transparency. He spoke to a crowd at Capitol Hill, sharing how his hometown of NYC’s The Bronx has “protected” him throughout his life, and that he’s ready to help out the “voiceless” people in his community in return.

“They know they got somebody here who’s willing to step up and fight for their rights and fight for their families, fight for their health,” Fat Joe is heard saying in a clip shared by TMZ. “This is not a rocket scientist thing. Just show us the prices so we can know whether we want to go to this hospital or if we want to go to the other hospital.”

Fat Joe, a longtime Power to the Patients supporter, is also set to perform at an event sponsored by the organization ahead of the White House Correspondents’ Association on Thursday (April 27), taking the stage alongside fellow rappers Busta Rhymes, French Montana and Rick Ross.

Janet Jackson Concert Moved After Atlanta Hawks’ NBA Playoff Win

The Atlanta Hawks are still alive in the NBA Playoffs, and that will force fans planning to attend Janet Jackson’s concert in the city this week to wait a day to see the music star.

The Hawks rallied to beat the Boston Celtics 119-117 in Game 5 of their playoff matchup on Tuesday night, sending the series back to Atlanta for Game 6.

It means that State Farm Arena was double-booked for Thursday night. The casualty was Jackson’s concert, Live Nation said in a statement following the the team’s victory.

The concert was moved to Friday, and all tickets for Thursday’s show will be honored for Friday night. Refunds will be available at the point of purchase for those who are unable to change their plans.

State Farm Arena’s Twitter account posted this message late Tuesday: “SHOW UPDATE: Due to tonight’s @ATLHawks Game 5 win, we will host Game 6 on Thursday, moving Thursday’s Janet Jackson concert to Friday. If you have tickets to the original show date, they will be honored for Friday’s date.”

Doors for Jackson’s show Friday will open at 6:30 p.m. and the concert will begin at 7:45 p.m.

Soulja Boy Ordered to Pay Ex-Girlfriend $235K in 2019 Assault & Kidnapping Case

Soulja Boy has been ordered to pay his ex-girlfriend $235,900 stemming from an assault and kidnapping lawsuit she filed against the rapper in 2020.

In court documents obtained by Billboard, the rapper, born DeAndre Way, must pay Kayla Myers $1,800 for “mental health expenses,” while the remaining $234,100 is for “physical and mental pain and suffering.”

According to Myers’ original complaint, the alleged assault and kidnapping occurred at the rapper’s Malibu home after a party in February 2019 and reportedly lasted six hours. Myers claimed she tried to leave but that one of Soulja Boy’s assistants prevented her from her doing so. She also alleged that Soulja held a gun to her head, issued numerous threats against her and at one point struck her with the firearm.

“Way held the gun to Ms. Myers’ head and told her she was going to die that night and she would not make it home,” the complaint read. “Way next instructed his assistant to take her in the garage and tie her up with duct tape.” 

Billboard reached out to attorneys for Soulja Boy and Myers for comment but did not hear back by press time.

This isn’t the only legal hot water Soulja Boy has found himself in over the past few years. In March 2019, the rapper was arrested for violating his probation stemming from a 2014 weapons conviction. The following month, he received a sentence of 240 days behind bars and 265 hours of community service.

In March, the “Crank That” star was one of several celebrities charged by the Securities and Exchange Comission for promoting cryptocurrencies “without disclosing that they were compensated for doing so and the amount of their compensation,” according to an SEC announcement.

After bursting onto the rap scene with “Thotiana,” Blueface’s rap career has taken a backseat to his very public toxic relationship with his boo, Chrisean Rock. Now it seems like Blue is ready to get back into his rap gig and, of course, is bringing along the ol’ spiked ball on a chain with him.

In his latest visuals to “Hello,” Blueface rolls around the hood in a few different whips accompanied by Chrisean who proceeds to twerk while hanging onto the sunroof, before ultimately making his way to a room filled with women who done cut on the red light special. We lowkey feel like one or more of those women felt the wrath of Chrisean Rock at some point behind the scenes. Just sayin’.

Speaking of twerking, NLE Choppa filled a dance studio with women who did just that in his Lil Wayne assisted clip to “Ain’t Gonna Answer.” But unfortunately, Weezy wasn’t able to participate in the festivities as Choppa had to enjoy all that jiggling junk by his lonesome. We’re sure he wasn’t complaining, though.

The star took to Instagram on Wednesday (April 26) to share a stunning mirror selfie, in which she’s seen rocking a neon green bikini from Kim Kardashian’s SKIMS swim collection. To put together the look, Simpson paired the swimsuit with a pair of hot pink platforms from her own shoe line.

In April 2021, the star’s mom, Tina Simpson, appeared on TODAY, where she discussed the hardest part about her daughter living in the spotlight. “I have to be honest: To me, the hardest thing with Jessica has been the weight. Because the way people judge her, it’s unbelievable. Body shaming is a terrible thing, and no girl should have to go through that — or guy. Period,” she told TODAY‘s Sheinelle Jones. “Because of that, it catapulted all kinds of different emotions and different things in her life, too, you know? And then it made her want to be a recluse, in a lot of ways, and to hide out and not want to get our of her house.”

Chance the Rapper Announces ‘Acid Rap’ 10th Anniversary Show

It’s officially been 10 years since Chance the Rapper burst on the scene with his record-breaking, Billboard-charting mixtape Acid Rap. Over the next few months, Chance will honor the project through a series of can’t-miss live events, pop-ups, merch drops, and special music releases. 

Chance will also headline an Acid Rap Ten Year Anniversary Show on August 19, produced by Live Nation  Chicago’s United Center. Rapper and record producer Saba will be the show opener. 

Tickets and VIP packages will be available starting with an Artist presale beginning today, Wednesday, April 26. Additional presales will run throughout the week ahead of the general onsale beginning Friday, April 28 at 10am local time at livenation.com.

Tickets for the show are selling fast. 

In the first event to mark the occasion, Chance is returning his single, “Juice” to its original glory and format, available worldwide for the first time ever across streaming services this Sunday, April 30.

The Chicago native is also releasing new merch to celebrate the occasion available on his website starting this weekend. 

When it dropped on April 30, 2013, Acid Rap was heralded as “Best New Music” by Pitchfork and Rolling Stone called it one of the “Best Mixtapes of 2013.” Across fourteen dynamic tracks, Chance’s lyrical prowess shines bright as he spits heavyweight bars over psychedelic, soulful, juke-filled beats, encapsulating the sound and feel of Chicago. Top Chicago-based and national artists including Vic Mensa, Childish Gambino, Twista, Action Bronson, BJ The Chicago Kid, Ab-Soul, and Noname lend their talents to the project. In 2019, Acid Rap hit DSPs and catapulted to #5 on the Billboard Hot 200, cementing Chance the Rapper’s role as a voice of a generation.

The anniversary is just part of an exciting year for Chance as he prepares to release his next body of work, Star Line Gallery. The project sees Chance intertwine the worlds of art, music, and cinematography through a series of interdisciplinary works in collaboration with fine artists from The Continent and The Diaspora. The resulting pieces redefine the notion of ‘album art’ and are compelling conversations and meditations on Black life.

‘The Kelly Clarkson Show’ Leads All Talk Shows in 2023 Daytime Emmy Nods

Daytime Emmy voters are obviously fans of Kellyoke — and the rest of the show that surrounds that popular segment. The Kelly Clarkson Show leads all talk series with 11 2023 Daytime Emmy nominations.

The show, which has won daytime talk series the last two years running, is nominated in that category again this year, where it faces returning nominees The Drew Barrymore Show, Live With Kelly and Ryan and Today With Hoda and Jenna as well as first-time nominee The Jennifer Hudson Show.

Kelly Clarkson has won daytime talk series host the last three years in a row. She’s nominated in that category again this year, where she faces returning nominees Drew Barrymore; Kelly Ripa and Ryan Seacrest; Tamron Hall, a two-time winner for informative talk show host for her syndicated Tamron Hall before the categories were realigned this year; and Sherri Shepard, for the syndicated Sherri!

Ripa, like Clarkson, has won three times in this category. She and Seacrest took the award four years ago. She won in 2015 and 2016 while co-hosting Live with Michael Strahan. Seacrest recently departed Live after a six-year run. Hudson became an EGOT at the 2022 Tony Awards.

The National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences announced the nominees for the 50th annual Daytime Emmy Awards on Wednesday (April 26). ABC’s General Hospital led all programs with 19 nominations.

Zac Efron is nominated for daytime program host for Down to Earth With Zac Efron, while his Netflix show of the same name is nominated for travel, adventure and nature program.

Selena + Chef, starring Selena Gomez, was nominated for culinary series, though Gomez was not nominated for culinary host.

Variety received two nominations in the arts and popular culture program category, for the Lifetime special Variety Power of Women: Changemakers and the PBS series Variety Studio: Actors on Actors. The other nominees in that category are Kings of Leon @ O2 (YouTube), American Anthems (PBS), My Bluegrass Story (RFD-TV) and Working in the Theatre (AmericanTheatreWing).

“Today we not only honor this year’s outstanding programs and individuals, we mark a milestone in television history,” NATAS president & CEO Adam Sharp said in a statement. “Our golden anniversary celebrates the talented creators who have made the last 50 years of daytime television so unforgettable.”

The Daytime Emmys will air live on CBS and stream live on Paramount + on June 16. This will mark the 17th time CBS has broadcast the show.

In a highly unusual scheduling move, The Daytime Creative Arts and Lifestyle Emmy ceremony will stream live the day after the main telecast – on June 17 – at Watch.TheEmmys.TV and via The Emmys apps for iOS, tvOS, Android, FireTV and Roku. Both ceremonies will be held at the Westin Bonaventure in Los Angeles.

The Daytime Emmys are produced by NATAS and Associated Television International. Adam Sharp and Lisa Armstrong are executive producers from NATAS, while David McKenzie is executive producer from ATI.

Tones and I’s ‘Dance Monkey’ Video Dances All the Way to 2 Billion Views on YouTube

Tones and I just keeps dancing. On Wednesday (April 26), the music video for the Australian indie sensation’s smash single “Dance Monkey” officially hit 2 billion views and counting on YouTube.

The amusing clip finds the artist otherwise known as Toni Elizabeth Watson donning old-age makeup and a gray beard to play an old man who escapes from a nursing home with his gaggle of buddies for a wild day out on the golf course.

“They say dance for me, dance for me, dance for me, oh-oh-oh/ I’ve never seen anybody do the things you do before/ They say, move for me, move for me, move for me, ay-ay-ay/ And when you’re done, I’ll make you do it all again,” she sings as the group goes joyriding in golf carts, throws back beers at the clubhouse and boogies on the putting green.

The grooving single was an instantly viral hit when Tones and I unleashed it back in 2019 as the second single from her debut EP The Kids Are Coming. While it charted at No. 4 on the Billboard Hot 100, the song hit No. 1 in more than 30 countries around the world and also earned the pop singer her first top 10 hit on Billboard‘s Pop Airplay, Hot Rock & Alternative Songs and Dance/Mix Show Airplay charts.

Since then, Tones and I released her debut studio album Welcome to the Madhouse, collaborated with Macklemore on “Chant,” and contributed “I Made It” to the soundtrack of the 2023 biographical drama True Spirit.

“And then there were #fouryearsofBenji!” the official account wrote on Thursday (April 26) alongside a series of photos in which the 12-time Grammy winning superstar is seen cuddling with the fluffy feline.

“He’s a good boy,” the account wrote in another post, and soon enough, the hashtag #fouryearsofBenji began trending on Twitter.

In a clip titled “ME! Behind The Scenes: The Story of Benjamin Button,” shared following the release of her colorful music video starring Panic At The Disco’s Brendon Urie, Swift took fans into the process of meeting and subsequently adopting her third cat.

“Hi honey, you’re beautiful,” she coos in the clip, holding a baby Benji. An exchange is then had with the kitty’s handler, and Swift asks if she can have him — and the rest is history. “Whenever I watch the video, I’ll be like, ‘That’s the first time I saw him,’” Swift later says to Urie.

Of course, the Swifties flooded Twitter with celebratory messages in honor of Benjamin Button’s big day. See below.
