Beyoncé Calls on Kendrick Lamar for ‘America Has a Problem’ Remix

You can’t get no higher than this! Beyoncé has reunited with Kendrick Lamar for a sleek remix of her Renaissance hit, “America Has a Problem.”

In the new iteration of the track released on Friday (May 19), Lamar comes in blazing with a powerful, minute-long opening verse. He flows at his characteristic lightning speed, proudly proclaiming himself “honorary Beyhive” as he raps, “My momma told me that the money outgrew you / My horoscope said I’m really out my noodle / I’m troublin’, I’m puzzlin’, it’s sudoku / Say B, yes, America got a problem / Kicked up, choosing love, well, they chose violence.”

It’s hardly the first time the beloved duo have teamed up musically. Lamar was previously featured on the soaring “Freedom,” off Bey’s 2016 Billboard 200 chart-topping album Lemonade, and he took the stage with her at the BET Awards that year to perform the track. The rapper also joined the “Alien Superstar” performer on her closing Formation tour show, surprising the crowd with another performance of “Freedom” at New Jersey’s Metlife Stadium.

For his 2017 Rolling Stone cover, Lamar opened up about what he has learned from working with Beyoncé. “How particular to be about your music,” he shared of her work ethic, adding, “She’s a perfectionist. Think about the BET performance. She was very particular – the lighting, the camera blocking, the transition from the music to the dancing. It was confirmation of something I already knew.”

Dave East has been doing his thing in the rap game for a hot minute now and though many fans didn’t take notice of him until he took on the role of Method Man in Hulu’s Wu-Tang Clan series, the man is still focused on his rapping and not the acting.

Dropping off some new visuals for “Chills,” Dave East heads back to his Harlem stomping grounds to link up with his old school crew and reminisce about the days when he had nothing but lint in his pockets and other struggles in his life before he made it in rap.

Meanwhile the man he portrays in Wu-Tang: An American Saga is still doing his thing himself as Method Man links up with another OG artist, Tamika Scott of Xscape. In their clip to “Tonight,” Johnny Blaze and Tamika Scott get their grown and sexy on and kick it in a penthouse overlooking the Big Apple while they cozy up on a cloudy day and turn up like it was 1999.

Jay-Z & Beyoncé Set California Record With $200 Million Malibu Mansion Purchase

Beyoncé and Jay-Z continue to prove that they’re Hollywood’s most iconic couple. The duo recently purchased a more than 30,000-square-foot home in the Paradise Cove area of Malibu, Calif., and they paid $200 million for the property, according to TMZ.

With that hefty price, the house is now the most expensive home ever sold in California, breaking the previous record of $177 million. The architectural masterpiece of concrete and glass was bought for $14.5 million by art collector William Bell in 2003, before bringing in Japanese architect Tadao Ando to create the minimalist concrete design. The L-shaped home has floor-to-ceiling walls of glass and leads outside to a swimming pool, cabana and a grass lawn perched on a cliff overlooking the Pacific Ocean, according to the Los Angeles Times.

The superstar couple previously purchased a modern mansion in Bel-Air for $88 million in 2017 that had a similarly minimalist design.

In other Bey news, the “Break My Soul” singer is currently in the midst of her long-awaited Renaissance tour, which kicked off with a jaw-dropping showcase of 37 hits in Stockholm, Sweden, last week and will continue throughout Europe until July 9, before heading across the pond to the United States.

The tour is in support of her 2022 album, Renaissance, which topped the Billboard 200 albums chart upon its release and won the Grammy award for best dance/electronic album. Three of the project’s songs also won individual awards, with “Break My Soul” winning best dance/electronic recording, “Plastic Off the Sofa” taking home best traditional R&B performance and “Cuff It” winning best R&B song.

Concert Promotion Stocks Are the Biggest Gainers on This Week’s Billboard Global Music Index

It was a good week for music stocks overall and an even better week for concert promoters, who made the biggest gains on the Billboard Global Music Index ahead of the blockbuster summer touring season.

The index rose 4.4% to 1,256.06 this week, with 15 of the 21 stocks ending in positive territory. It was led by concert promoter Madison Square Garden Entertainment’s (MSGE) 19.4% gain amidst multiple news items that influenced the share price. On Wednesday (May 17), Guggenheim initiated coverage of MSGE with a buy rating, while a report claimed that MSG Entertainment may sell the theater at Madison Square Garden for about $1 billion. On Thursday, the company released first-quarter results that showed a 4% increase in revenue to $201 million, though the company’s executives did not comment on the report during Thursday’s earnings call.

Shares of German promoter CTS Eventim also made big gains, rising 9.2% to 64.30 euros ($68.61). On Thursday, the company’s first-quarter earnings showed a 163% revenue jump to 366.2 million euros ($396 million) — beating pre-pandemic levels from the first quarter of 2019 by 29.5%. Year-to-date, CTS Eventim has sold 18 million tickets online, a 58% increase from the prior-year period. Meanwhile, Live Nation, the world’s largest concert promoter, improved 8.4% to $84.73 and is now up 21.5% year to date. Sphere Entertainment Co., which spun off MSG Entertainment in April, improved 6.1% to $23.61.

The S&P 500 improved 1.6% to 4,191.98 and the Nasdaq composite rose 3% to 12,657.90. The U.K.’s FTSE 100 index was unchanged at 7,756.87, while South Korea’s KOSPI composite index rose 2.5% to 2,537.79.

K-pop companies continued their hot streak this week. Two companies not in the Billboard Global Music Index, JYP Entertainment and YG Entertainment, gained 22.7% and 17.8%, respectively. Year-to-date, shares of JYP Entertainment, home to Stray Kids and Twice, have gained 70.6%. Shares of YG Entertainment, whose roster includes recent Coachella headliner Blackpink, are up 109.8% in 2023. Shares of HYBE dropped slightly by 0.4% but have gained 62% year to date. Likewise, shares of SM Entertainment gained only 1.1% this week but have grown 40% this year.

The Dream Setlist for Luis Miguel’s 2023 Tour

In April, Luis Miguel surprised fans with the announcement of his 2023 tour, which will make stops in North and South America this summer and fall.

The 43-date stint, produced by Cárdenas Marketing Network (CMN Events) and Fenix Entertainment, kicks off Aug. 3 in Buenos Aires, Argentina, and will visit major cities in the U.S. such as Chicago, Las Vegas, Miami and Los Angeles before wrapping up Dec. 17 in Guadalajara, Mexico.

This marks El Sol de Mexico’s (The Mexican Sun) first trek in years, following his México Por Siempre tour that ran from 2018 to 2019, grossing $101.4 million and selling 965,000 tickets across 116 shows, according to Billboard Boxscore. The México Por Siempre tour, which supported his Latin Grammy-winning album of the same name, was the highest-grossing Latin tour in Boxscore history until last year, when Bad Bunny‘s El Último Tour del Mundo and World’s Hottest Tour surpassed it.

While fans count down the days to see Luismi — one of Latin music’s biggest stars and one of the top vocalists of his generation — in concert, the Billboard Latin team curated a dream tour setlist featuring 16 of his biggest Billboard hits. Each of the songs on the list hit No. 1 on the coveted Hot Latin Songs chart, dating back to 1987, a year after the chart launched.

The list includes his first No. 1 hit on the chart, “Ahora Te Puedes Marchar” (1987); plus “La Incondicional,” which spent seven weeks at No. 1 in 1989; and “Tengo Todo Excepto a Ti,” which spent eight weeks at No. 1 in 1990, to name a few.

The actors revealed on a new episode of Ushowitz and Kevin McHale’s podcast And That’s What You REALLY Missed that they would purposely eat the “worst” food to make their “awkward” make out sessions more fun.

“Making out is so awkward, especially when you have to do it over and over again and then try and make it interesting,” Shum Jr. shared. “Remember me and you used to eat the worst s— that we could think of to just make it just a little more interesting?”

“Sour Cream and onion chips,” Ushowitz replied, to which Shum Jr. added that he would opt for “peanut and butter” sandwiches. “Yeah that combination existed for sure,” he said. Listen to the full episode here.

Ushowitz and McHale previously addressed the idea of a Glee reboot to Insider, with Ushowitz noting that she’d only take part in a reboot if co-creator Ryan Murphy was involved. “I look to the leader. Ryan Murphy said something on our podcast about it, so you’ll have to listen,” she said. “I think if it could be done in the right way, he would do it. The stars have to align in order for something to make sense to do it, or he’s not gonna do it. Like, the integrity has to be there.”

“If Ryan was involved, I mean, that’s when you consider it,” she added. “That’s when you talk about actually the possibility of doing it. Otherwise, you can count me out.”

Here’s Why Paula Abdul Turned Down ‘The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills’

Don’t expect to see Paula Abdul holding a giant diamond anytime soon. On Thursday night, the singer revealed she turned down an offer to join The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills.

“I’ve been humbled,” the OG American Idol judge told Entertainment Tonight from the red carpet of the Vanderpump Dogs gala, which just so happened to be organized by former RHOBH star Lisa Vanderpump. “I got a kick out of it that I was ever even asked. However, I like to be the one on the couch with the popcorn, watching with my dogs.”

Of course, Abdul has plenty of history on reality TV, between her stint in between Simon Cowell and Randy Jackson for eight seasons on the original American Idol panel and also Hey Paula, an early Bravo series following her life that ran for a single season of just seven episodes in 2007.

Since then, the “Straight Up” pop star has also served as a judge on the first season of The X Factor, seasons 12 and 13 of So You Think You Can Dance, and on The Masked Dancer, among one-off appearances on RuPaul’s Drag Race, Dancing With the Stars, Lip Sync Battle and more.

“I feel like I’ve been on reality television for a long, long time,” she reminisced. “Being part of history, making shows and being able to be a mentor, it’s been joyful.”

Earlier this spring, Abdul took a trip down Idol‘s memory lane with Jennifer Hudson, stopping by the alum-turned-EGOT winner’s daytime talk show to reflect on her shocking and controversial elimination in season 3.

In the late ’80s and early ’90s, Abdul dominated the Billboard Hot 100, scoring six No. 1s on the chart among 15 overall appearances.

How to Watch EDC Las Vegas 2023 Livestream

EDC Las Vegas is thumping to life starting Friday (May 19) at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway, with more than 400,000 attendees expected for the three-day bacchanal.

But if you can’t make it, you can still kind of be there via the festival’s official livestream, which begins tonight at 6:45 p.m. PT via the InsomniacTV YouTube channel.

While the festival hasn’t announced a livestream schedule, it has nine major stages to choose from and in years past has streamed from multiple locations throughout the 1,000-acre site. The lineup includes more than 230 genre-spanning artists playing across more than 10 stages and art cars.

Today on Twitter, Alison Wonderland confirmed her set tonight is being livestreamed, and certainly it will be one for the history books given that Wonderland is performing while nine months pregnant. The producer spoke to the topic on her socials earlier this week, writing, “Hey everyone asking … I am not playing another secret set at edc. Rn I am almost 9 mth pregnant. I have 2 doctors and an ambulance waiting at the stage for after I play to check I’m not about to f—in give birth lol.” (The producer recently spoke to Billboard about debuting her Whyte Fang project last month at Coachella, during the tail end of her pregnancy.)

The festival grounds open tonight at 5 p.m. PT, with the all-nighter going until dawn for each of its three days. Earlier this week Pasquale Rotella — the Founder and CEO of EDC producer Insomniac Events — released a statement advising EDC attendees to arrive early to the fest to best avoid potential travel delays, given that a stretch of the interstate connecting the Vegas Strip to the Speedway is currently under construction.

Auli’i Cravalho Won’t Return as Moana in Disney’s Live-Action Remake

Auli’i Cravalho shared the news Friday (May 19) that she won’t return as the title character in Disney’s upcoming live-action remake of 2016’s Moana.

“I’m sure you’ve heard by now, live-action Moana is in the works and you all have been waiting very patiently for updates. So I’ve written a few things down,” she said in a video posted to her Instagram on Friday. “When I was cast as Moana at 14, it wonderfully changed my life and started my career. In this live-action retelling, I will not be reprising the role.

“I believe it is absolutely vital that casting accurately represents the characters and stories we want to tell,” the actress continued. “So, as an executive producer on the film, I cannot wait to help find the next actress to portray Moana’s courageous spirit, undeniable wit and emotional strength. I am truly honored to pass this baton to the next young woman of Pacific Island descent to honor our incredible Pacific peoples, cultures and communities that help inspire her story. And I look forward to all the beautiful Pacific representation to come.”

Voicing Moana was Cravalho’s breakout role, as the then-unknown teen brought to life the story of tradition and discovery through now-classic songs like “How Far I’ll Go,” “I Am Moana (Song of the Ancestors)” and “Where You Are.”

Disappointed fans will se at least one familiar face when the movie hits theaters, though. Dwayne Johnson, who announced the live-action remake from the beaches of Hawaii back in early April, will once again wield his magical fish hook as the demigod Maui.
