Nicki Minaj Announces New Album ‘Pink Friday 2’ Will Arrive In November

Nicki Minaj has given the Barbz something to look forward to this year. She announced that Pink Friday 2 is coming at the end of the year.

As spotted on Hip Hop N More the Queens, New York talent had a big announcement this week and her fans are here for it. On Thursday, June 29 she took to social media to make the big reveal. Dear Barbz, I’ve been trying to find the right time to tell you this for a few days. Due to some really exciting news that I’ll share with you guys @ a later time, I’ve shifted the album date just a tad bit. Trust me, it’ll be WELL WORTH THE WAIT…”.

She went on to give more detail. “but since I AM shifting the date just a tad, I’d like to give you guys a tiny SIP of some more album tea so that I don’t have to get cussed out ? so…here it goes: ?

MY NEW ALBUM WILL BE RELEASED ON 11.17.23- ? and she shall be called: Pink Friday 2 ?” she wrote. Nicki Minaj also took the time to acknowledge her fans for having her back throughout her career. ” I love you guys so much. I am so grateful for the years of support & love you guys have given me. At times maybe I didn’t even deserve all that you have poured into me” she added. “Nonetheless, you. will. love. this. album. I will give tour deets closer to that time, but obviously the tour will start around the first quarter of 2024. I’ll also share the REAL album cover at a later date.”

Her last Queen was released in 2018 and featured songs like “Chun Li” and “Barbie Tingz”. The project has sold over 1,000,000 million copies in the United States since release.

Young Thug Denies Police Testimony Naming Him A Snitch

Young Thug is calling out a police officer’s claim that he’s a snitch, as his lawyers try to get the testimony thrown out before his trial.

Attorneys for the “Metro Spider” rapper filed two motions Thursday (June 29) and Friday (June 23) with the former arguing that a witness in the case who is a police detective is falsely claiming that Jeffrey Williams, aka Young Thug, confessed details of an unrelated homicide case to that detective.

In the motion, lead attorney Brian Steel argues that Judge Ural Glanville should throw out the testimony of Detective Quinn stating that it is “not accurate, places Mr. Williams’ character at issue, and is irrelevant to the trial of the above-referenced case.” Steel also states that Young Thug’s “right to a fair trial” needs to be preserved by the court and that Judge Glanville should also toss out any records of 911 calls allegedly made by the rapper in relation to this unrelated homicide.

Steel’s previous motion June 23, asked Judge Glanville to dismiss the RICO charges brought against Young Thug and his YSL co-defendants, citing the statute of limitations for the state in RICO cases has been exceeded. “In order to satisfy the crime of RICO conspiracy, the prosecution must prove, beyond a reasonable doubt, that at least one (1) overt act was committed in furtherance of the conspiracy within the Statute of Limitations,” the motion says. “To satisfy the Statute of Limitations, the overt act must have occurred within five (5) years of the filing of the Bill of Indictment with the Clerk of Court.”

That motion continues: “Approximately overt act numbers 62 through 191 are alleged to have occurred on a date within five (5) years of May 9, 2022, the date of the original Bill of Indictment as well as the re-Indictment. The re-indictment was filed with the Fulton County Clerk of Court on August 5, 2022.”

The motions come as jury selection in the trial has been halted and scheduled to resume July 10. The high-profile case has run into several stumbling blocks from Young Thug’s brother having his probation revoked and going to prison to a Fulton County deputy being arrested on charges of inappropriate contact with one of the defendants. Young Thug also underwent a medical evaluation in May over concerns about his well-being while in custody.

For the past few decades, Hennessy has unintentionally become the official alcoholic drink of the Hip-Hop culture. So it was only right that an Hip-Hop icon like Nas would become a spokesman for what is considered the most popular cognac in the culture.

Looking to get in on the celebration of Hip-Hop’s 50th anniversary, Hennessy has announced that it will team up with the Nas aka the Queensbridge king to release an exclusive V.S. bottle that pays homage to arguably the most popular culture and music genre in the world. According to Hypebeast, the new must-have Hip-Hop inspired Hennessy bottle will be available for purchase this coming July, and you best believe these joints will be a hot commodity, especially around Queens.

Hypebeast reports:

The duo’s limited-edition Hennessy bottle is a love letter to hip-hop and is portrayed with a hand-written note by Nas. The aged label boasts trademark branding and Nas’ face alongside orange, white, and black splotches. Finally, the boxed packaging dons spirited “HenNASsy” lettering with NYC-inspired graffiti art accents.

We. Needs.

While collectors will no doubt purchase a few of these and maybe crack one open for enjoyment, we doubt you’ll see any of these joints just laying around the block after its contents have been consumed like the average empty bottle of Henny. Hip-Hop Hennessy heads are going to cherish this joint. Hennessy should go all the way with it and drop shirts and other merchandise with this. Just sayin’.

Hot Girl Summer is here, and Megan Thee Stallion is showing off her curves in a series of sizzling selfies posted to Instagram on Thursday (June 29).

In the series of snaps, the “Savage” rapper is seen rocking a metallic blue bikini, paired with a matching blue wig and colorful, 90s-inspired jewelry. “Real Hotgirl Sh?t,” she fittingly captioned the photo set, in which she serves face and body from all angles, and even enjoys a blue ice pop in one of the pics.

Meg has been on a much-deserved musical break this year to focus “on healing,” and she recently gave fans a lighthearted life update on social media. “B—-, since the last time y’all seen me, I learned to do a motherf—ing pull up,” she narrated an Instagram video, as she’s seen doing pull ups and having a workout at the gym with her new trainer. “Ok, so anyways, I can’t drop music right now but, b—-, I might as well drop a little workout routine.”

She also shared scenes looking at Birkin bags at Hermès in Paris, France, before getting glam, having a creative meeting, and attending the Louis Vuitton Spring 2024 Menswear Collection Runway Show.

De La Ghetto Enters New Era With ‘GZ,’ His First Studio Album as an Indie Artist

De La Ghetto has entered his new career era with the release of GZ — his first studio album in three years and the first released independently under his label Latin Nation Entertainment, distributed by The Orchard.

Home to 12 tracks, including the previously released single “My Love” with Quevedo, GZ (short for his alter ego De La Geezy) navigates sultry and bold R&B sounds, inspired by the genre’s street vibe in the late ‘90s and early 2000s. The set also embraces a few hard-hitting reggaeton tracks as heard in the Myke Towers-assisted “Me Dijeron,” which samples Mario Winans’ “I Don’t Wanna Know,” and unapologetic trap as heard in “Ya Lo Sabes” with Arcangel, Nesi and Villano Antillano.

“The creative process was a little bit different because we weren’t going to do this album. We just wanted to drop singles, but my manager put the pressure on me,” De La Ghetto tells Billboard. “The vibe was different because this is the first album I’ve dropped as an independent artist, so there was more motivation. I didn’t have a crazy deadline, there was no pressure, I just flowed and was having fun with the album.”

The artist’s last album was the star-studded Los Chulitos, released in 2020 before parting ways with Warner Music Latina.

Unlike Los Chulitos, on which he teamed up with acts such as Nicky Jam, Rauw Alejandro and Manuel Turizo, De La Ghetto reeled in a new wave of trap and reggaeton stars from La Isla del Encanto (RaiNao, Dei V, Lyanno, and others) — all of whom remind him of himself when he was a rising urban artist in the early 2000s.

“Sometimes the old-school producers, as great as they are, are drained from doing a lot of work. I wanted to bring that new energy, that new sound from Puerto Rico to the world — I wanted to use the people from my island without taking credit away from the artists in Colombia, Argentina and the Dominican Republic,” he explains. “When I work with new artists, I let them take control. When we’re in the studio, I let them lead and show me what they want to hear from the new De La Ghetto. At times I even find myself, finding new ways of rapping and new melodies, because this is always changing. Music is moving really fast.”

After personally selecting his collaborators and following a creative span of nine months, GZ was created.

“That’s why I took sometime after ‘Los Chulitos’ to release a new album because I was by myself, I was independent, and I was trying to find that passion of mine to create music,” he says. “What’s the point of releasing an album without feeling? I couldn’t just drop an album with no purpose. It’s not in my DNA.”

It is impossible to live in any of the 50 states in the U.S.A. and not know about schoolhouse classics like “The Star-Spangled Banner” and “This Land Is Your Land,” but those famous odes aren’t the only way to give a musical shout-out to America.

Since the country’s inception in 1776, artists have been tackling the complexities of living life under the stars and stripes with songs that both trumpet and deconstruct the concept of the American dream. Just as there’s a lot to be said in the country’s favor – the diverse cities, beautiful scenery, advancements in technology, culture and of course, music – there’s also a lot to be improved upon, as several of these musicians point out. Political divides, prejudice and poverty are unfortunately ever-present in the land of the free and the home of the brave, but hey, at least we’re free to talk – or sing – about what we need to do to fix it.

No matter your stance on the current state of things, there’s no shame in being proud of where you come from while simultaneously seeking change. Even that, in itself, is a deeply American value that we can all celebrate this July 4th.

This week, our New Music Latin roundup — a compilation of the best new Latin songs, albums, and videos recommended by Billboard Latin and Billboard Español editors — is powered by new music from Shakira, Becky G, and Peso Pluma, to name a few.

The list includes new Música Mexicana releases such as Becky G’s “La Nena,” in which she teams up with Mexican newcomer Gabito Ballesteros for the ultimate girl power corrido song; Peso Pluma and Grupo Frontera’s “TULUM, in which “La Doble P” steers away from his signature corridos bélicos sound and dips his toes into Frontera’s very catchy norteño-cumbia fusions; and DannyLux’s “ZAFIRO” with Camila’s Pablo Hurtado, an emotional song that “talks about being in love with a person that truly did hurt you, and every time you look into their eyes it reminds you of that,” according to DannyLux.

The Billboard staff also highlight Shakira’s eagerly anticipated “Copa Vacía,” a collaboration with Manuel Turizo. The infectious pop-reggaeton song — about unrequited love and not getting enough affection from a loved one — will make listeners want to dance. “Drop your phone, use your hands with me,” Shakira sings, while Turizo replies, “I’m looking in the streets who can fill this emptiness I feel.”

Also on the list is De La Ghetto and Myke Towers’ “Me Dijeron” — part of the former’s new album GZ — a wonderful Spanish rendition of 2004’s “I Don’t Want to Know” by Mario Winans, in which the two Puerto Rican pair interplay poetic rhymes about vulnerability and denial.

The Japanese House, In the End It Always Does

“Perform my stupid rituals, everything in cyclical,” Amber Bain sings on her new album. “Hold on to this feeling ’cause you won’t feel it for long.” This is the prevailing sentiment behind In the End It Always Does, the sometimes-nihilistic, otherwise-curious new album from The Japanese House that ponders the patterns of our emotional inner lives. Whether it’s a lack of physical connection (“Touching Yourself”), or predetermination in the middle of a relationship (“Morning Pages” with MUNA), Bain examines the cycles of her love life with surgical precision, and through the lens of some impeccably-crafted indie-pop.

Mxmtoon, Ricky Montgomery & Cavetown, “Nobody Loves Me”

Turns out when you take three exceptionally gifted singer-songwriters and put them together on one song, you get a pretty great final product. “Nobody Loves Me,” the collaboration between Mxmtoon, Ricky Montgomery and Cavetown, sees the trio offering up their own interpretations of hopelessly pining after the objects of each of their affection. With soft, silky production that lends itself perfectly to the delicate subject at hand, “Nobody Loves Me” is exactly the kind of song to sit and introspect to.

Greta Van Fleet, “The Falling Sky”

No, it’s not Chicken Little — it’s just Greta Van Fleet letting you know that the sky is, indeed, falling. In this delicious rock single, the band struggles against the seemingly unyielding problems of the world, as frontman Josh Kiszka opines that “I don’t wanna lose this time.” Add in some flavorful guitars and even a brassy harmonica solo, and “The Falling Sky” quickly becomes a must-listen anthem for perseverance — especially given Kiszka’s recent coming out, and the state of affairs for queer people in this country.

Daya, “Juliene”

Looking for a sizzling, sexy anthem for your summer playlists? Enter Daya. “Juliene,” the singer’s latest single, follows Daya as she pursues the titular character down a burning-hot beach so they can find some alone time. Some A+ alt-pop production and an ethereal vocal performance later, “Juliene” transcends into a flowing, scintillating jam that’s bound to get stuck in your head shortly after your first listen.

Chika feat. Freddie Gibbs, “Truth or Dare”

If you’ve ever wanted to be let into a songwriter’s process, then Chika has exactly the song for you. On “Truth or Dare” (featuring a fabulous guest verse from rap superstar Freddie Gibbs) the 25-year-old rapper focuses her aim at the industry and her own career, calling out shallow trends and materialist incentives before turning her focus inward. Throughout the dexterous second verse, Chika slowly deconstructs herself before wondering if any of this is really even worth it. “Nowadays, music about a few seconds that make you sway from side to side,” she spits. “Why am I thinking so much ’bout my lyrics? Forreal I’m just wastin’ my time.” That may be how Chika feels, but we think pressing play on “Truth or Dare” is maybe one of the best uses of your time today.

G Flip, “The Worst Person Alive”

Ever had an ex that decided to treat you like Public Enemy No. 1? G Flip most certainly has, as they explain on their latest single “The Worst Person Alive,” a scathing indictment of the multi-hyphenate’s past relationship. Fueled by a pounding drum beat (performed by G Flip themselves) and seething lyrics that question any and all intentions from their former flame, “Worst Person” seeks to find answers amid the mess and drama of a relationship at its end.

MAY-A, “Lola”

Australian indie-rock star MAY-A wants to talk about growing apart. On “Lola,” the first single off of her forthcoming EP Analysis Paralysis, the singer-songwriter looks her relationship with two different people; the person she gets to be with in private and the person they change themselves into in public. Through the dreamy guitars and subdued percussion, MAY-A paints a vivid image of a relationship where no one knows where they stand, making this an excellently evocative single to kick off her new era.
