Diddy’s $185M Deal With Cannabis Company Goes Up In Smoke

The legal cannabis business is all the rage these days and with your favorite Hip-Hop artists getting in on the game, Diddy decided it was the perfect time to buy his way into the business. Unfortunately, things didn’t turn out exactly how he had hoped.

TMZ is reporting that a $185 million deal that the OG Bad Boy had lined up with a cannabis company unfortunately went left and left Diddy out in the cold for the time being. Though we’re sure Diddy won’t be giving up on his vision of owning his own weed company, this was a setback that he didn’t see coming as he was patiently waiting for the deal to get done.

TMZ reports:

Sources with direct knowledge tell us Diddy waited in the wings as Cresco Labs and Columbia Care planned their proposed merger that was agreed upon last year.

However, we’re told the shareholders never reached an agreement, and Diddy’s deal was terminated earlier this week as a consequence. Diddy’s team tells us he and his Combs Global empire still have a vested interest in pursuing opportunities to diversify the cannabis industry … they just have to find the perfect fit.

The move would’ve made Diddy the owner of 9 stores throughout New York, Massachusetts and Illinois, with each having its own production facility … effectively making him the biggest Black cannabis business owner.

Y’all know Diddy might be a little peeved at the fact that he’ll have to wait a bit longer to become the “biggest Black cannabis business owner” in the game. He’s gonna love saying that to anyone willing to listen.

When the next deal presents itself remains to be seen, but best believe he’s not going to settle for some regular old marijuana company that has a store or two. If Diddy isn’t going big, he’s going home. That’s just how he rolls.

Jonathan Majors’ Domestic Abuse Trial Moved To September

US actor Jonathan Majors' trial on assault charges begins in New York

Jonathan Majors will have to wait until next month to begin his anticipated trial on charges of domestic violence, as ordered by the court.

On Thursday (Aug. 3), the Creed III actor appeared before Judge Michael Gaffey in court in Manhattan, New York. The hearing would be brief. “The people are not ready for trial today,” Assistant District Attorney Kelli Gallaway said to the judge. Judge Gaffey remarked, “Time will continue to run against the people.” He then set the date for proceedings to begin Sept. 6.

Majors’ trial was set to begin today before the reassigning of the new date. Judge Gaffey reminded the actor to abide by the order of protection barring him from any sort of contact with the accuser. “Yes, sir,” Majors responded simply while holding a Bible and notebook. He and his defense team, along with his new girlfriend, Harlem actress Meagan Good, (who also accompanied him to his June 20 hearing) would be dismissed afterward.

The actor’s lead defense attorney, Priya Chaudhry, quickly issued a statement afterward. “One hundred and thirty-one days ago, authorities unjustly cuffed Jonathan Majors in his own home, hauling him off to jail based on the word of a woman now hunted by the NYPD,”  the statement began. “For an excruciating four months, Jonathan Majors, the real victim in this shameful ordeal, has had his life, career, and reputation torn apart,” Chaudhry said. “Yet he remains unwavering in his determination to be absolved from this harrowing ordeal.”

Chaudhry also put the blame on the prosecution for the delay of the trial, saying that she had received a two-terabyte hard drive of evidence from their team on Wednesday (Aug. 2). She also claimed that the New York Police Department was poised to arrest the ex-girlfriend accusing Majors the moment she “sets foot back in New York.” Reportedly, the woman currently resides in the United Kingdom.

The news of the trial comes as questions still linger about Majors’ career opportunities going forward.  The 33-year-old actor faces up to a year in prison if convicted of misdemeanor charges of assault and harassment. Disney has released the latest trailer for the second season of its acclaimed Loki series, which will air on Disney Plus this October. Majors will feature prominently in the show as Victor Timely, the ancestor of his Kang The Conqueror character.

Microphone That Cardi B Flung At Fan To Be Auctioned For A Good Cause

Does Cardi B have the Midas touch?! We’re not sure but it certainly seems like damn near everything she touches turns to gold even if those things are used as a weapon.

Days after Cardi B went viral for flinging a microphone at a fan who tried to splash her with a liquid substance at a Las Vegas performance, TMZ is reporting that the mic in question is actually going to be auctioned off to the highest bidder because, well, why not? While Cardi’s actions led to numerous comedic memes that have been floating around social media since the incident, no one’s really paid attention to the microphone used in retaliation. Don’t be surprised if it ends up bringing in some big bucks.

TMZ reports:

The mic Cardi hurled into the crowd at Drai’s Nightclub actually belongs to an audio production company called The Wave in Sin City, and the owner tells us he decided to auction it off to benefit a couple of charities. Scott Fisher tells TMZ … it was pretty easy to track down the mic after the show, because the white tape across the bottom of it says “MAIN,” and it still works despite Cardi chucking it into the crowd. Scott says his company provides audio support for most of the major nightclubs in Vegas, including Drai’s.

Cardi might wanna put a bid on that mic just so she can recover some evidence as the woman who caught her wrath has filed a battery report with Las Vegas authorities. Y’all already know she’ll be trying to extract as much paper from Cardi in the process.

The $1000 microphone is currently on eBay with a starting bid of $500, and according to Scott, the proceeds will go to both The Wounded Warrior Project and a local Vegas charity named Friendship Circle Las Vegas, which helps teens and young adults with special needs. Great way to use a viral moment to help some good causes.

Would you bid on the microphone that Cardi B turned into a weapon? Let us know in the comments section below.

Cardi B Won’t Face Criminal Charges Over Mic Throwing Incident in Las Vegas: Police

Las Vegas police have dropped their criminal investigation into last weekend’s incident in which Cardi B threw her microphone at a fan who had splashed her with a drink.

Though a police report was filed by the alleged victim Sunday (July 30), the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department confirmed to Billboard on Thursday (Aug. 3) that the star has now been cleared of any criminal wrongdoing.

“After a thorough review of this case and with the consultation from the Clark County District Attorney’s Office, this case has been closed as having insufficient evidence,” the department wrote in a statement. “No charges will be filed in relation to this case.”

In their own statement, Cardi’s attorneys (Drew Findling, David Chesnoff and Richard Schonfeld) confirmed that they had been notified of the result: “On behalf of Cardi, we appreciate the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department’s diligent and prompt resolution of this matter.”

In a video of the Saturday (July 29) incident that went viral on social media over the weekend, the 30-year-old hip-hop star (real name Belcalis Marlenis Almánzar) was seen hurling a microphone at an unruly audience member after they splashed their beverage on her during a performance at Drai’s Beachclub on the Las Vegas Strip.

On Monday (July 31), LVMPD confirmed to Billboard that an individual had later filed a police report alleging battery, claiming she was “struck by an item that was thrown from the stage.” Police did not mention Cardi by name, but the location of the alleged incident matched the address of the venue at which the rapper was performing.

The alleged victim has not been identified and thus could not be reached for comment on Thursday.

Saturday was the latest in a rash of recent incidents in which artists have been struck by objects while performing at concerts. In recent weeks, Drake called out a fan for throwing a vape on stage; Bebe Rexha was injured when a cell phone was hurled at her face; a fan tossed her dead mother’s ashes up onto P!nk’s stage; Kelsea Ballerini was struck by an object mid-song; someone sent a sex toy flying at Lil Nas X; and a mysterious object pelted Harry Styles near the eye and left him wincing in pain.

In Cardi’s case, she was in the middle of delivering her hit song “Bodak Yellow (Money Moves)” — which spent three weeks at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in 2017 – when she was suddenly splashed by the liquid from a cup. In a video that the star herself retweeted, she turns angry and throws her mic down into the crowd while appearing to yell.

Bad Bunny Collects 26th Top 10 on Latin Airplay With ‘Where She Goes’

After gaining six new top 10 showings across Billboard charts, including two No. 1s, with “Where She Goes,” Bad Bunny extends his winning streak as the song rises to No. 2 on the Latin Airplay chart (dated Aug. 5). It concurrently lands at No. 1 on Latin Rhythm Airplay.

On Latin Airplay, “Where She Goes” surges 20-2 as the Greatest Gainer of the week with 9 million in audience impressions, that’s a 70% gain from the week prior. Bad Bunny unseats one of his own from the runner-up slot as “Un X100to,” with Grupo Frontera dips 2-6 with a 6% decline in audience impressions (to 8.2 million).

The song’s biggest supporters for the week includes SBS’s KXOL (Los Angeles), Univision’s WVIV (Chicago) and KQMR (Phoenix), and Grupo Radio Centro KAMA (Houston).

With “Where She Goes,” Benito banks his 26th top 10 on Latin Airplay, tying with Maluma for the seventh-most among Latin rhythm acts since the chart launched in 1994. Here’s the top 10 recap:

48, Daddy Yankee
40, J Balvin
37, Ozuna
28, Wisin & Yandel
27, Wisin
26, Bad Bunny
26, Maluma

Further, the new Latin Airplay top 10 follows two chart commands: “Where She Goes” gifted Bad Bunny a third ruler on the Billboard Global 200 and his 14th champ on Latin Digital Song Sales, both on the June 3-dated rankings. On the latter, Benito extends his second-most record, trailing only Shakira’s 15 No. 1s.
Plus, as mentioned, “She Goes” now dominates Latin Airplay in its 10th week. Let’s look at the song’s achievements across the charts:

Peak Date, Chart, Peak Position
June 3, Billboard Global 200, No. 1
June 3, Billboard Global Excl. U.S., No. 3
June 3, Latin Digital Song Sales, No. 1
June 3, Hot Latin Songs, No. 2
June 3, Latin Streaming Songs, No. 2
June 3, Streaming Songs, No. 3
Aug. 5, Latin Airplay, No. 2
Aug. 5, Latin Rhythm Airplay, No. 1

Beyond its top 10 on Latin Airplay, “She Goes” takes over Latin Rhythm Airplay, which gives Benito his 21st ruler there. He breaks from a tie with Wisin & Yandel for the fourth-most among all acts, trailing Daddy Yankee (35 No. 1s), J Balvin (34), and Ozuna (29).

Eva Mendes Dances to Dua Lipa’s ‘Dance the Night’ in New Video: Watch

Eva Mendes is a Barbie girl — or at the very least, a Barbie supporter. On Wednesday (Aug. 2), the actress took to Instagram and shared a video of her dancing to the lead single from Barbie: The Album.

The video shows the star, dressed in a floor length, green floral gown, swaying her dress to the beat of Dua Lipa’s “Dance the Night” as she walks down the stairs. Mendes, however, revealed that she felt somewhat like a Weird Barbie in the video’s captions: “Why must I make that stupid pout when I start to dance ?! Anyone suffer from this seriously lame condition?”

“Dance the Night,” released as the first single from Barbie: The Album, was the soundtrack to Barbie’s choreographed dance party in the movie. The Lipa track currently sits at No. 12 on the Billboard Hot 100, following the arrival of the Barbie soundtrack hitting the Aug. 5-dated Billboard 200. After a tight race to see which album would hit No. 1, Barbie ultimately landed at the No. 2 spot on the chart after NewJeans’ second EP, Get Up.

Mendes has something else that she can “dance” about. Her husband, Ryan Gosling, can officially call himself a Billboard charting artist after netting his first every entry on the Hot 100 chart with the movie’s power ballad “I’m Just Ken.” The song debuted at No. 87 on the Hot 100, in addition to No. 4 on Hot Rock Songs, No. 5 on Hot Rock & Alternative Songs and No. 39 on Digital Song Sales.

Watch Mendes dance to Lipa’s “Dance the Night” below.

Matchbox Twenty’s ‘Push’ Returns to Charts Thanks to ‘Barbie’ Synch

Matchbox Twenty’s classic hit “Push” revisits multiple Billboard charts dated Aug. 5, sparked by its synch – via its original version and Ryan Gosling‘s cover – in the new movie Barbie.

Released in 1996, “Push” reaches the multi-metric Hot Rock & Alternative Songs tally at No. 17. (Older songs are eligible to rank on the chart if in the top half and with a meaningful reason for their returns.)

The tune from the Rob Thomas-fronted band also hits Hot Alternative Songs and Hot Rock Songs at Nos. 11 and 13, respectively.

In the July 21-27 tracking week, “Push” earned 3 million official U.S. streams, up 31%, according to Luminate. It also sold 1,000 downloads, a 201% burst.

Additionally, Gosling’s cover of the song heard in the movie earned 932,000 streams and sold 1,000 downloads in its first week of availability. Gosling plays Ken in the film; an original song for Barbie, “I’m Just Ken,” also makes multiple charts, including the Billboard Hot 100, at No. 87.

“Push” became Matchbox Twenty’s first No. 1 on a Billboard songs chart, leading the Alternative Airplay list for a week in July 1997. It also reached Nos. 2, 3, 4 and 6 on Adult Alternative Airplay, Pop Airplay, Mainstream Rock Airplay and Adult Pop Airplay, respectively.

“Push” parent album Yourself or Someone Like You peaked at No. 5 on the Billboard 200 in September 1997; Matchbox Twenty’s breakthrough LP has earned 9.6 million equivalent album units to date. (Gosling’s cover is on the Best Weekend Ever edition of Barbie: The Album, the new film’s soundtrack that starts at No. 1 on the Soundtracks chart and No. 2 on the Billboard 200.)
