On the latest list dated Aug. 30, the Oshi no Ko opener falls 2-3 for downloads with 9,271 units sold and 18-20 for radio airplay, but still dominates streaming (12,393,052 streams), video views, and karaoke. The duo has been busy with festival performances over the summer and maintains momentum, adding another week to its unprecedented stay at the summit.

Soaring 39-2 on the Japan Hot 100 is Nogizaka46‘s “Ohitorisama Tengoku,” released Aug. 23. The girl group’s 33rd single sold 713,642 copies in its first week, off to a much better start than the previous one, “Hito wa Yume wo Nido Miru,” which launched with 663,277 copies. The new single was mostly powered by physical sales (No. 1) and comes in at No. 20 for downloads (2,651 units), No. 26 for radio, No. 74 for streaming, and No. 35 for video.

Three of the four debuts this week on the top 10 are by new groups born from “iCON Z,” the biggest audition in the history of LDH, home of EXILE and many other popular bands. WOLF HOWL HARMONY’s “Sweet Rain” bows at No. 3, THE JET BOY BANGERZ’ “Jettin’” at No. 4, and KID PHENOMENON’s “Wheelie” at No. 5.

There was a difference of over 1,373 points between “Sweet Rain” and “Jettin’,” with the former selling 73,524 copies to come in at No. 5 for sales while also ruling radio. “Sweet Rain” also came in at No. 32 for downloads (1,804 units), No. 84 for streaming, and No. 45 for video. Meanwhile, “Jettin’” sold the most CDs of the three new bands, launching with 91,271 copies. The track comes in No. 3 for sales, while “Wheelie” sold 84,185 copies to come in at No. 4 for the metric. Both tracks ended up bowing in their respective positions below “Sweet Rain” on the Japan Hot 100 due to lack in points in the digital metrics.

The fourth debut on the top ten this week is the Japanese version of “UNFORGIVEN” by LE SSERAFIM at No. 6, featuring Nile Rodgers and breakout J-pop songstress Ado.

IMP.’s “CRUISIN’” jumps 53-8 this week after being released digitally Aug. 18. The TOBE act’s debut single is off to a great start, ruling downloads (21,801 units) and coming in at No. 2 for radio and No. 5 for video.

The Billboard Japan Hot 100 combines physical and digital sales, audio streams, radio airplay, video views and karaoke data.

Ellie Goulding Assures Fans ‘Face Is Intact’ After Near-Miss With Pyro During Concert

Ellie Goulding is thanking her lucky stars after a scary near-miss incident with some on-stage pyro over the weekend. In an Instagram Story on Wednesday (Aug. 30), the singer revealed that she escaped unharmed when a fire effect went sideways during her set at the Victorious Festival in Portsmouth, England on Sunday.

As seen in a fan video of the incident, a pyrotechnic fireball that shot up from the stage appeared to graze Goulding’s face as she continued to sing “Miracle” while exclaiming, “ah, f–k!” Goulding, 36, assured fans she escaped without injury in her Story, writing, “to those asking I am ok! Pyro didn’t hit me directly in the face. Face is intact. Love you thank you.”

Though Goulding’s near-miss was scary it continued the recent trend of artist’s facing unexpected peril during shows, more typically lately from objects tossed at them by fans. Everyone from Drake to Harry Styles, Bebe Rexha, Latto, Kelsea Ballerini, Steve Lacy and P!nk have dodged random things throw at them (or on stage) over the past few months.

The 36-year-old singer has been riding high on the U.K. singles charts this summer, with “Miracle” — a trance-like collaboration with Calvin Harris. The song is the first team-up from the frequent collaborators in nearly 10 years, following up their 2014 hit “Outside”; they also released “I Need Your Love” in 2012. “Miracle” spent eight non-consecutive weeks at No. 1 on the Official U.K. Singles Chart, matching Harris’ all-time run on the U.K. survey with his 2018 Dua Lipa track “One Kiss.”

Miley Cyrus Details Brutal 13-Hour Day Work Schedule From ‘Hannah Montana’ Era

There’s busy, and then there’s Miley Cyrus circa 2005 busy. As part of her new confessional “Used to Be Young” series on TikTok, the now 30-year-old singer gave fans a glimpse at the insane hours she used to work when she was just a pre-teen, back when she was on the fast track to stardom via Disney Channel’s Hannah Montana.

Looking at an old schedule from one of the many on-duty Fridays she underwent as a kid, even Cyrus was shocked to see her call time for the day: “5:30 a.m.?!” she yelled, stunned.

The musician went on to list out every single thing she did on that particular Friday, starting with hair and makeup early in the morning. “7:15 I’m on the news, 7:45 I have another live interview, 8:15 another interview, 8:45 another interview,” she continued. “9:30 to 11 a.m. meeting with editors. Back to the hotel, okay, I have to do an interview but the reporters are all fifth-grade students.”

Cyrus went on to share that the rest of her day was filled with more interviews, the last of which began at 6:15 p.m. “Then the next day starts at 7 a.m. and ends at 7:30 p.m., when I fly home to probably go to Hannah,” she concluded. “That’s on a Saturday, and then Monday be back at work in the morning.”

Need a break just from reading all of that? So did Cyrus. “I’m a lot of things, but lazy ain’t one of them,” the singer quipped. “So, I do think this girl deserves a little endless summer vacation.”

Cyrus has been going through artifacts from all 30 years of her life, with a big focus on her Disney Channel days, to celebrate the arrival of her latest single, “Used to Be Young.” The track, released last week, is something of an unofficial epilogue closing out her Endless Summer Vacation era.

In another installment of her TikTok series, the “Flowers” reflected on one of the biggest coincidences she’s ever experienced: The Malibu house in which she recorded her 2007 non-Hannah debut album Meet Miley Cyrus would 15 years later become the home she shared with Liam Hemsworth, now her ex-husband. The former couple lived there together after Hemsworth purchased the property, previously owned by Cyrus’ producer Matthew Wilder.

The house no longer exists, though, as it notably burned down in the devastating California wildfires in November 2018. “That house had so much magic to it,” Cyrus said in her TikTok video, looking a little emotional. “It ended up really changing my life.”

He also has massive collaborations with Becky G, Bad Bunny, and others. “After being in the festival scene here in Puerto Rico for 24 years, I believe that Motherland is going to be THE destination festival in the Caribbean,” Victor Mercado with Visionary Ally tells Billboard. “It’s a proud moment for me to lead this incredible project with Donnie, who’s a longtime friend. We’re doing this one for the culture and I’m thrilled that we get to shine a spotlight on some incredible Reggaeton as well as House artists along the way.”

Building on a successful 15-year partnership, Visionary Ally and Disco Donnie Presents have a proven history of producing extraordinary music and cultural experience, including multiple editions of the iconic EDC Puerto Rico. The pair have even promised to bring this festival into stateside markets, spreading the authenticity of the Puerto Rican culture and rhythms to cities all over the country.

“Our success with destination festivals in Cancun (Ember Shores, Paradise Blue) has really shown us something special,” says James “Disco Donnie” Estopinal, who encourages fans visiting San Juan for Motherland to immerse themselves in the diverse range of landscapes in the city.

“People are eager to jet off to new places, places they’ve never experienced before to share experiences with like minded people they’ve never met. It’s like this instant connection they all have, even in a brand-new setting. And that’s exactly what we’re doing with Motherland. It’s not just about going somewhere new; it’s about creating these bonds and moments together in a whole new destination, right in my home city of San Juan.”

Oliver Anthony’s Historic Climb to the Top: A Timeline of the ‘Rich Men North of Richmond’ Singer’s Rapid Rise

After shooting straight to No. 1 on the Hot 100 out of nowhere, we break down the singer’s improbable blow-up.

Oliver Anthony Music‘s meteoric rise to the top of the Billboard charts has shattered norms, garnered endless headlines, landed the bearded country folk singer an unexpected cameo at the the first Republican presidential debate and otherwise set a new standard for the trajectory of a viral hit single.

Just a week after a barebones video of Anthony’s broadside against out-of-touch elites, “Rich Men North of Richmond,” was uploaded, the previously unknown singer-songwriter and former factory worker shot straight to No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100, marking the first time an artist debuted at the top without any prior chart history.

Boosted by co-signs from a number of influential conservative pundits, as well as Fox News, the song about said rich men has made a star of the soft-spoken artist born Christopher Anthony Lunsford; his stage name is an homage to his grandfather, with the “Music” appended to avoid confusion with an EDM artist of the same name.

Through it all, the proudly independent singer — who says he’s already turned down recording contract offers worth as much as $8 million — has mostly let his music do the talking, performing just one free show, uploading another no-frills music video and speaking out only when he felt that his words were being twisted during the Fox News presidential debate.

It’s a truly only-in-America story that has made Anthony into an overnight star, while again proving that there are now many paths to success in the music industry. Check out a timeline of Anthony’s improbable, supersonic rise to stardom.

NewJeans’ Danielle Gets Cozy in the Studio for a Cover of V’s ‘Rainy Days’: Watch

The collaboration between NewJeans and V continues, this time, with a cover of the BTS member’s recent single “Rainy Days.” On Wednesday (Aug. 30), the K-pop group uploaded a video of Danielle in the studio performing her rendition of the track and gave some insight as to how the cover came to be.

Danielle revealed how she and her fellow NewJeans members — Haerin, Hanni, Hyein and Minji — first heard the song, as well as other tracks from V’s upcoming debut solo album, Layover.

“All five of us were gathered together for a meeting with the CEO [Min Hee Jin]. We listened to every song from our albums, and then the CEO told us, ‘We’re currently preparing for V’s album. Do you want to listen to those songs too?’ So we eagerly said ‘Yes!’ and listened with lots of excitement,” the singer recalled. “After listening to ‘Rainy Days,’ the song resonated with me so much, so as soon as I heard it, it brought me back to a rainy day from my childhood where I would sit by the window and look outside.”

There is a possibility for additional covers of V’s songs from the girls in the future. Danielle added that she and the girls said, “‘All the tracks are so beautiful and covering them would be so fun,’ we said that, and the CEO told us, ‘Then let’s try it!’”

The K-pop star, wearing a cozy oversized cardigan, then launched into a peaceful rendition of the song. “Rainy days/ I’m thinkin’ ’bout you, what to say/ Wish I knew how to find the way/ Right back to you, on rainy days like/ Rainy days/ I’m thinkin’ ’bout you, what to say/ Wish I knew how to find the way/ Right back to you, on rainy days like,” she sang on the chorus.

V approved of the cover, taking to his Instagram Stories to share a link to the cover, and wrote that he was “touched by [her] message” of her cover, in addition to a happy, teary-eyed emoji.

Layover will arrive on Sept. 8. In addition to pre-release singles “Rainy Days” and “Love Me Again,” “Slow Dancing” — which also has a piano version — “Blue” and “For Us” will also appear on the set.

Alana Springsteen

The Nashville-based singer-songwriter is officially a Billboard-charting artist thanks to her debut LP, Twenty Something. Released Aug. 18 on Columbia Records, the 18-track set debuts at No. 17 on the Heatseekers Albums chart with 4,000 equivalent album units earned in its opening week, according to Luminate. The collection, which is broken up into three segments (“Messing It Up,” “Figuring It Out” and “Getting It Right”), follows a trio of EPs: her self-titled project in 2019 and the two-part History of Breaking Up in 2021 and 2022, respectively. The album also features collaborations with Chris Stapleton (“Ghost in My Guitar”) and Mitchell Tenpenny (“Goodbye Looks Good on You”; he also co-wrote other tracks on the album).

Earlier this year, Billboard named Springsteen (no relation to labelmate Bruce Springsteen) its January country rookie of the month. “There are songs on here that call out my struggles, areas that I’ve messed it up, which a lot for me has been in the areas of love and relationships. It’s pretty vulnerable,” she said of Twenty Something. “But then there are moments where, if you’re lucky, you start living your purpose and start figuring things out. I think your 20s are a mixture of all of that. I hope that people can just find a little bit of themselves in this record one way or another.”

Springsteen has opened for Tenpenny, Filmore, LANY and Josh Turner, among others. Her first headlining trek, the Twenty Something Tour, is set to kick off this October and run through December.

Paul Russell

Russell, from Texas and now based in Los Angeles, makes his first Billboard chart appearance thanks to his viral hit “Lil Boo Thang.” The feel-good song, which interpolates “Best of My Love” by the Emotions, debuts at No. 1 on Rap Digital Song Sales and No. 5 on the all-genre Digital Song Sales chart with 9,000 downloads sold, following its official release. It also starts at No. 9 on the Hot 100’s Bubbling Under ranking, while Russell begins at No. 4 on Emerging Artists and No. 89 on the Billboard Artist 100.

Russell first teased a snippet of the song June 28 in a TikTok post that has garnered more than 5 million views and launched over 55,000 creations from new fans who’ve paired it with other clips. He later repurposed the post on Instagram Reels, where it has generated another 10 million views. The virality helped Russell land a deal with Arista Records. “First and foremost, ‘Lil Boo Thang’ is meant to be a good time,” he told Billboard ahead of the full track’s release. “When I wrote it, I was stressed out on a Thursday afternoon, so I just turned on some of the music that makes me happy and imagined that I was celebrating something. I think what makes the song special is the fact that so many of us are ready to just forget about whatever is happening around us and enjoy the good things in life – not just thinking back to good times in the past but creating new ones in the present day.”

“Best of My Love,” written by Maurice White and Al McKay of Earth, Wind & Fire, spent five weeks at No. 1 on the Hot 100 in 1977. It finished as Billboard’s No. 3 year-end Hot 100 song that year. White and McKay are both credited as co-songwriters on Russell’s song.

Outside of “Lil Boo Thang,” Russell has released two solo LPs: Via Text, with Ruslan, in 2018, and Once in a Dry Season, in 2019.

Duendita

The New York City-based singer-songwriter from Queens arrives on Billboard’s charts thanks to her featured appearance on Jamila Woods’ “Tiny Garden.” The song, released July 11 on Jagjaguwar/Secretly Group, debuts at No. 37 on Adult Alternative Airplay (up 20% in plays Aug. 18-24). Duendita, aka Candace Camacho, has released one solo LP so far: 2019’s Direct Line to My Creator. In an interview with Pitchfork that year, she said that the project was her college senior thesis for New York University’s Clive Davis Institute of Recorded Music.

Juiicy 2xs

The rapper reaches Billboard’s charts for the first time with her song “Yeah Yeah” featuring Lola Brooke. Released June 23 on Quiet Giants Ent./Zone 4, the track debuts at No. 39 on Mainstream R&B/Hip-Hop Airplay (up 18% in plays). The song has been boosted by sped-up and slowed-down versions. Juiicy 2xs, from Cincinnati, has released two solo LPs: Hate. Sex. Love in 2020, and Juiice in 2022.

The Kolors

The Italian band from Milan notches its first Billboard chart appearance thanks to its song “ITALODISCO.” The cut, released May 5 on Warner Music Italy, debuts at No. 181 on the Global Excl. U.S. chart with 9.3 million streams outside the U.S. Aug. 18-24. It also spends an eighth week at No. 1 on the Billboard Italy Hot 100. The group has forged a successful career in Italy, having charted three albums on the Italy Albums chart, including the 12-week No. 1 Out in 2015. The Kolors have released two additional studio albums: I Want (2014) and You (2017). The group comprises Stash Fiordispino (vocals, guitar, synths), his cousin Alex Fiordispino (drums, percussion) and Dario Iaculli (bass, synths)

Taylor Goyette

The Nashville-based artist notches his first Billboard chart entry with his viral hit “The Show Goes On.” The song, which he self-released Aug. 18, debuts at No. 39 on the Digital Song Sales chart with 2,000 downloads sold in its opening week. He also starts at No. 49 on Emerging Artists. Goyette boasts more than 75,000 followers on TikTok and had been teasing the song through snippets leading up to its release.

J. Lock

The rapper logs his first chart appearance thanks to “Money” featuring Finesse2Tymes. The song, released July 7 via Block/Stoner Road Music Empire, opens at No. 40 on Mainstream R&B/Hip-Hop Airplay (up 8% in plays). J. Lock, based in Atlanta, has released four additional songs so far: “Graduation Freestyle” in 2021, “On Deck” with Madmarcc, “Vengeance” (both 2022) and “Selfish” with RL (this February).

East Nash Grass

The Tennessee-based bluegrass troupe arrives on Billboard’s charts for the first time with its new 11-track sophomore album, Last Chance To Win. The set, released Aug. 18 on Mountain Fever Records, debuts at No. 4 on the Bluegrass Albums chart. The group dropped its first album, East Nash Grass, in 2021. The band is comprised of Maddie Denton (fiddle), James Kee (guitar), Gaven Largent (Dobro), Jeff Picker (bass) and Cory Walker (banjo). East Nash Grass performs at bluegrass night (on Mondays) at Dee’s Country Cocktail Lounge in East Nashville.

Shubh

The Punjabi rapper based in Brampton, Canada reaches Billboard’s charts with “Cheques.” The song, released in May on his debut seven-track album Still Rollin, enters at No. 197 on the Global Excl. U.S. chart (18.2 million streams, up 34%, outside the U.S. Aug. 18-24). It also rises to No. 3 on the India Songs chart.

J Balvin Spotted Balling In Unreleased Pair Of His Air Jordan 3 Collaboration

The 64th Annual Grammy Awards - Show

Source: Variety / Getty

Last year’s collaboration between J Balvin and Jordan Brand on the Air Jordan 2 pretty much bricked as pairs struggled to move off of digital shelves for weeks. But don’t expect the upcoming Air Jordan 3 “Medellin Sunset” to experience the same fate as hype has been gradually building around this particular release.

Tuesday (Aug. 29), things got more interesting in the sneaker world as J Balvin was caught playing a game of basketball in a pair of his unreleased black version of his Air Jordan 3s (blasphemy!) in New York City. Dubbed the “Rio’s,” the sneakers featured a black leather base with the classic elephant print overlays on the toes and heels. Making the pair really pop was the solar flare and total crimson abyss on the back midsoles and fading into the heel tab of the kicks.

These joints go hella hard, b, but we feel like the “Medellin Sunset” joints are a superior colorway.

While the original release date for the Air Jordan 3 x J Balvin “Medellin Sunset” was supposed to drop Sept. 2, it’s been pushed back to Sept. 23 (it may get pushed back again). As for the black Air Jordan 3 x J Balvin “Rio” colorway, word is they’ll probably touch down in the summer of 2024.

Check out pics of the Air Jordan 3 “Medellin Sunset” below, and let us know if you’ll be trying to cop either colorway in the comments section below.

Kirk Franklin Lands His Record-Tying 10th No. 1 on Gospel Airplay Chart With ‘All Things’

Gospel music star Kirk Franklin lands his 10th leader on Billboard’s Gospel Airplay chart as “All Things” ascends to No. 1 on the survey dated Sept. 2. In the Aug. 18-24 tracking week, the song increased by 7% in plays, according to Luminate.

With the coronation, Franklin ties Tamela Mann for the most Gospel Airplay No. 1s, dating to the chart’s 2005 launch. James Fortune & FIYA follow with eight leaders.

“All Things,” which Franklin penned and produced solo, is the lead single from his album Father’s Day, due Oct. 6.

“‘All Things’ being the first single off my upcoming album is very special to me,” Franklin tells Billboard. “I’m so glad it resonated with the listeners and made it to the top of the Billboard Gospel Airplay chart. This [is my] 10th No. 1, but this one really hits different. Once the full album drops, you’ll see why. Let’s go!”

For Franklin, “All Things” follows “Bless Me,” a collaboration with Maverick City Music that reached No. 26 on Gospel Airplay in March. Before that, “Kingdom” with Maverick City Music and featuring Naomi Raine and Chandler Moore ruled for three frames beginning last October. He most recently reigned solo with “Strong God” for two weeks in December 2020.

Franklin first topped Gospel Airplay with his third chart entry, “Looking for You,” for 18 weeks beginning in November 2005.

The singer-songwriter will embark on The Reunion Tour alongside The Clark Sisters, Israel Houghton, David and Tamela Mann and Tye Tribbett, beginning Oct. 1 in Boston. The trek is set to run through Nov. 24 in Fort Worth, Texas.
