Snoop Dogg has a new comedy movie coming out next year, but luckily for fans, they won’t have to carve out time of their busy schedule to see it in theaters as it will be releasing exclusively on Amazon Prime.

According to Deadline, The Underdoggs, starring Snoop Dogg, will be skipping the planned theatrical Jan. 26, 2024 release and instead go directly to streaming on Prime Video so it can be enjoyed in the comfort of your own home. Directed by Charles Stone III, the film follows a former football star (Snoop Dogg), who’s egotistical ways land him in hot water with the law, and he has to repay society by undertaking a new venture that’s sure to end up softening him up after it’s all said and done.

Deadline reports:

Written by Danny Segal and Isaac Schamis, The Underdoggs follows Jaycen “Two Js” Jennings, a washed-up former pro football star, who hits rock bottom and is sentenced to community service coaching an unruly pee-wee football team in his hometown. During the course of this, he may just turn his life around and rediscover his love of the game in the process.

The movie stars Tika Sumpter, Andrew Schulz, Mike Epps and George Lopez.

Going straight to Prime Video is probably the right call as we don’t see the film being a box office smash or even modestly successful to be honest. Maybe if it dropped in the late ’90s. Just sayin’.

The role itself should be a walk in the park for Snoop as the man was actually a coach in the Snoop Youth Football League back in 2005. An actual football star he was not, and we don’t think with that slender frame anyone would believe he ever was (no shots).

Check out the trailer to The Underdoggs below, and let us know if you’ll be checking for it when it debuts on Amazon Prime come Jan. 26, 2024.

Executive Turntable: Spotify’s UK Boss Departs; TuneCore and 10K Add to C-Suite

If it’s Friday, you know it’s time for another spin around the Executive Turntable, Billboard’s comprehensive(ish) compendium of promotions, hirings, exits and firings — and all things in between — across the global music industry.

Tom Connaughton is out as Spotify’s managing director in the UK and Ireland, he announced this week on social media. The British-born executive joined the streaming giant in March of 2018 as head of artist and label marketing before getting a quick promotion three months later to his most recent role, which centered on driving content strategy and artist partnerships in the two powerful markets. He came to Spotify after seven years at Vevo, including two as senior vp of creative content & programming. In that role, he had responsibility for artist and label relationships across the U.S., U.K. and eleven different international markets and was based in New York at the time.

Earlier this week, Spotify chief Daniel Ek outlined an aggressive round of job cuts at the company, however a spokesperson for the company declined to comment when asked if Connaughton’s exit was related in any way. He has spent a good chunk of the last year on paternity leave, a perk that was the subject of a recent Fortune profile, and in his LinkedIn announcement, which was gracious and positive in tone, said he’s looking forward to “taking some time out to spend with my young family.” He added in his note: “The UK and Ireland is a massive market for Spotify, and the business today is unrecognisable to what it was when I first joined. That’s all been made possible by the incredible people that I’ve had the pleasure of working alongside. They all care so deeply about giving a platform to artists and creators, and to providing an amazing user experience for all of us to enjoy.”

As Music Business Worldwide noted in their coverage, Connaughton is the second market honcho to exit following last week’s departure of Jenny Hermanson as MD of the Nordics.

Warner Chappell Music tapped Jessica Entner to be its first vice president of creative sync strategy, a multi-faceted role focused on business development, partnerships and working directly with agencies and brands to realize WCM writers’ creative goals. Based in Los Angeles, she reports to Keith D’Arcy, WCM’s senior vp of sync and creative services. Entner arrives with roughly 24 years of industry experience under her belt, dating back to stints at Maverick Publishing, FM Rocks, Elias Arts and Massive Music, among others. Since 2016, she has helmed JEM, a music company focused on guiding creative strategy and production for advertising agencies and brands. “The media landscape is changing, and the creative needs of our clients in advertising, branding, and promotion are changing with it,” notes evp of global synchronization Rich Robinson. “Jessica is the perfect person to work with both our music partners and our songwriters to navigate these shifts and deepen the strategic relationship between music creators and brands.”

Elliot Grainge’s 10K Projects, which recently became a standalone label under Warner Music, named Max Gore to chief financial officer and promoted Blake Brown-Grakal to general counsel and Samuel Cohen to general manager. All three execs are LA-based. Gore swivels over from WMG, where he most recently served as vp of finance and operations at WMX. Brown-Grakal, a former drum tech for Ringo Starr’s band, joined 10K in 2020 as an associate director of business and legal affairs. Cohen has been with the label since 2017 and has worked across A&R, marketing and biz dev. “As we look forward to a new phase of growth at 10K, reinforcing our core executive team is crucial,” said Grainge. “Max brings with him well over a decade of finance experience, the majority within the Warner system. Blake’s facility in communicating with artists and their teams on business matters has been a game-changer for us over these past three years. And Sam has been at 10K since the very beginning, helping to guide every chapter of our development at the label.”

300 Entertainment promoted Lallie Jones to vp of marketing and Josh D’Amore to senior vp of digital and streaming. Jones — who was 300 Entertainment’s first employee, starting in 2015 as co-founder Lyor Cohen’s executive assistant — has overseen marketing campaigns for artists like PinkPantheress, $NOT and Phony Ppl, while D’Amore manages the commerce, digital strategy and streaming operation for the label. “Lallie and Josh are both incredibly valuable members of the 300 Entertainment team,” 300 co-presidents Selim Bouab and Rayna Bass said. “They have been a vital part of some of our biggest success stories, and will undoubtedly play crucial roles in many more to come.” –Dan Rys

Indie distributor TuneCore appointed Brian Miller as the company’s new chief revenue officer — a role last filled by the company’s now-CEO Andreea Gleeson. As CRO, Miller’s M.O. will be to spearhead revenue growth strategies, securing strategic partnerships and developing innovative ways to expand-and-retain TuneCore’s roster of artists and labels. Miller arrives from Angi (formerly Angie’s List), where for nearly three years he was chief growth officer at the popular DIY home services platform. Before that he spent six years in various executive roles at handyman-finding site Handy HQ, which was acquired by Angi in 2018. “Brian’s hands-on experience scaling SaaS businesses, forging dynamic partnerships and leading growth strategies—along with his passion for developing independent artists—make him an invaluable addition to our senior management team as we innovate to drive artist growth,” said Gleeson.

BMI promoted Tim Pattison to senior director of creative, effective immediately. In this New York City-based role, Pattison scouts and signs new songwriters and publishers, plus acts as point-person for various writer-focused showcases including the monthly Acoustic Lounge, the funnily titled Speed Dating for Songwriters, and showcases at Austin City Limits, SXSW and others. Since joining BMI in 2015, Pattison has handled writer/publisher relations for a slew of BMI stars, namely Doja Cat, Ice Spice and Yung Gravy, among others. Prior to BMI, the Ohio University and NYU alum held positions at Spirit Music Group and Fat Possum Records.

All in the Family: Penske Media’s venerable Dick Clark Productions hired veteran executive Sara Kantathavorn as senior vice president of talent strategy and promoted Jeremy Lowe to vp of talent and partnerships. Kantathavorn arrives after a five-year stretch at Apple Music, where she rose to head of global talent development and managed and developed the streaming service’s roster of hosts worldwide. Prior to Apple, she served in vp-level roles at Viacom Digital Studios and Revolt TV. Lowe’s roots run deep at DCP, where he started as an intern in 2009 and was most recently an executive director of marketing and talent partnerships. He and Kantathavorn will work closely together to help shape the DCP talent strategy across its events, which include The Billboard Music Awards, Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve with Ryan Seacrest and the Academy of Country Music Awards. “Sara’s experience leading talent teams and strategy coupled with Jeremy’s enthusiasm and passion for artist discovery make for a winning combination,” said Jay Penske, CEO, chairman and founder of Penske Media. “Talent will always be at the core of everything we do at DCP.”

London-based booking agency One Fiinix Live added veteran agent John Pantle to the team, effective immediately. Pantle joins after a five-year stretch at Sound Talent Group, where he was partner and handled a coming-with-him roster that includes Hatsune Miku, Julieta Venegas and Radwimps, among others. Prior to STG, he spent nine years at APA and three at UTA. “This business was built on creative ideas, entrepreneurship and personalities and John has all these attributes,” said One Fiinix Live founder and CEO Jon Ollier, who personally books the company’s biggest client (rhymes with Ned Beeran). Pantle will be based in Los Angeles but work London hours.

Frank Ocean Enthusiastically Dances to New Song Snippet in Recording Studio Video

In what amounts to a virtual avalanche of fresh tracks, Frank Ocean posted a second snippet of new music in as many months on Thursday (Dec. 7). The reveal of the untitled track came in a 24-second video posted on Ocean’s Instagram Story in which the elusive crooner danced with great enthusiasm to an untitled mid-tempo R&B jam booming out of the recording studio’s speakers.

The surprise drop came a month after Ocean sneaked out another snippet on his Story on Nov. 8, a minute-long, unnamed moody track on which he was heard crooning over a droning keyboard. Rocking an orange bucket hat, red jersey and jeans, Ocean flexes, bops his head and sways side-to-side in the new clip, clearly vibing out to the chill song, whose dreamy lyrics are hard to make out. It was preceded by another short video in which Ocean smiles as he lays on the floor and fools around on a synthesizer with a friend’s baby.

While the Story has expired, you can listen to a grab of the new song here.

In keeping with Ocean’s unpredictable vibe, the singer also offered up some other fresh, surprise goodies in his Story, pushing fans to his blonded site, where he’s offering up a new range of Blonded Radio soccer jerseys (which at press time had sold out) and $120 jacquard soccer shorts, as well as a new $65 vinyl version of his 2016 Blonde album.

Ocean had not released any new music since he surprise-dropped two singles, “Dear April” and “Cayendo” in 2020, which was followed by a never-released untitled nine-minute song on the Christmas special on his Apple Music 1 Blonded Radio show in December 2021. The singer’s last proper album was Blonde.

On Wednesday (December 6), Kodak Black was arrested for cocaine possession in Plantation, Florida after cops found him asleep at the wheel of his luxury SUV. The jokes write themselves.

The rapper, born Bill Kapri, 26, was pinched for possession of cocaine, tampering with evidence and improperly stopping or parking his vehicle. He appeared before the judge on Thursday (December 7).

WSVN reports that officers approached Kodak Black’s vehicle after noticing his black Bentley SUV was holding up traffic around 2am on the 600 block of NW 47th Terrace. The officers then found the “Visions” rapper asleep behind the wheel. Of course, the cops also noted the odor of marijuana coming from the SUV as well as “cannabis wrapping paper and residue” per the police report.

But this is when the struggle gets extra real. Reportedly, Black copped to the weed, but then the authorities said they noticed him trying to discard of a white powdery substance. After being searched, the cops found a white substance in a baggie in his pocket that was confirmed to be cocaine.

Kodak Black was famously pardoned Donald Trump in 2020 of his federal sentence for falsifying documents to purchase firearms, and has been continuously singing the former President’s praises ever since. There’ll be no get out jail free cards now, though.

All jokes aside, it seems like Kodak Black, who had to complete court-ordered rehab before, needs help.

Taylor Swift Got Unsolicited Advice From Elon Musk After Winning TIME’s 2023 Person of the Year Award

Taylor Swift vaulted into rarified air this week when she was named TIME magazine’s 2023 Person of the Year. So of course now that she’s joined a list that includes Gandhi, Jimmy Carter, late pope John Paul II, Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg, Barack Obama, teen climate activist Greta Thunberg and 2022 honoree Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelensky, 2021 POTR Elon Musk had something troll-y to say about it.

The embattled, blustering Tesla/Space X/X boss posted a congratulations to Swift under the singer’s tweet thanking the magazine for the honor on Thursday (Dec. 7). But, Musk being Musk, he also added a jokey warning to the global pop superstar about the risk/reward factor of the TIME title.

“Some risk of popularity decline after this award, I speak from experience lol,” Musk tweeted.

To be fair, Swift is coming off the first run of her record-shattering Eras Tour, followed by her box office record-breaking Eras Tour film and months of breathless press about her relationship with Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce.

Things were a bit different when richest man in the world Musk took home the TIME honor in 2021 for what the magazine said was his aptitude for “solving the globe’s most intractable challenges” and “driving society’s most daring and disruptive transformations” through his category-leading electric car company Tesla and rocket company Space X.

Unlike Swift, however, Musk has had a mostly annus horribilis so far in 2023, which included his co-sign of an antisemitic tweet on his X platform (which he later walked back and apologized for), his boosting of the bonkers, repeatedly discredited Pizzagate conspiracy and his recent profane suggestion to the flood of major companies pulling advertising off of the listing X platform to “go f–k yourself.”

At press time it did not appear that Swift had responded to Musk’s tweet.

Cher Is Heading to the Metaverse With ‘Christmas’ Roblox Event: Exclusive

Cher‘s chart-topping Christmas album marked her first-ever holiday record — and now, the legendary singer will embark on another first: a trip to the metaverse.

Billboard can share exclusive first details about Cher’s four-week event on Roblox that launches today (Dec. 8) in the latest collaboration between Warner Music Group and leading metaverse game developer Gamefam. Cher will head to WMG’s music-themed Roblox world Harmony Hills, which will have its halls decked in festive decor, add new holiday-themed locations, and launch limited-time virtual merchandise inspired by some of the superstar’s most iconic looks with tinsel hair, winter fairy wings, diamond antlers and a winter crown. The activation will spotlight three of Cher’s new Christmas tracks: “Drop Top Sleigh Ride” with Tyga, “Angels in the Snow,” and her historic new No. 1 single, “DJ Play a Christmas Song.”

Alongside a virtual Cher NPC (non-playable character) designed to match her new album cover, players can earn the wearable avatar merch by successfully completing tasks like delivering presents, climbing up Christmas trees and participating in snowball fights.

The Cher space in Harmony Hills is the latest launch in WMG and Gamefam’s partnership that kicked off in February 2023 ahead of a Super Bowl concert with Warner Records rapper Saweetie. Gamefam reports the concert holds the highest rating among any concert on Roblox with a 96 percent player rating, with the Super Bowl campaign earning over 7.5 million visits in one week. A Bebe Rexha concert in July in support of her Bebe album averaged 8,300 concurrent users amid its 4.3 million unique visits.

Leaning into the 70 million daily active users on Roblox marks a unique opportunity for a legend like Cher to reach across generations, including an entirely new audience and demographic, via festive and familiar holiday music.

“Christmas songs have this magic that always brings families together and we feel Cher’s Christmas album really captures that spirit,” explains Jacqui Bransky, vp of Web3 and Innovation at Warner Records. “We thought taking her music to Roblox would help expose her to a new generation of fans while simultaneously spreading joy. We wanted to make the whole experience feel like a story, something that really draws the audience in while still feeling authentic to who Cher is as an artist.”

Adds Alli Guglielmino, svp of Growth at Gamefam, “Cher is an everlasting, multi-generational superstar and, after seven decades, Cher continues to find innovative ways to connect with a new wave of fans…as Gen Z and Alpha turn away from traditional music consumption methods, there’s no better place to reach them than the metaverse gaming platform where they’re actively playing for 2.5 hours every day.”

Cher’s Christmas event on Roblox (launching at 7 p.m. ET on Dec. 8) joins her heavy promo run for the holiday LP that’s included performances at the iHeartRadio Z100 Jingle Ball, the Rockefeller Center Tree-Lighting Special and Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade.

Mariah Carey Drops Festive New Lambily Edition ‘All I Want For Christmas Is You’ Video

Mariah Carey has been barnstorming the country for nearly a month on her festive Merry Christmas One and All tour and on Friday morning (Dec. 8) she presented her fans with the greatest gift of all: a new Lambs-centric video for her modern holiday classic, “All I Want For Christmas Is You.”

“The best thing about being on tour is getting to celebrate the holidays with my lambily!! To show my appreciation, here is a new video for ‘All I Want For Christmas Is You,’ [Christmas tree, present emoji],” she tweeted. “I’m calling this one the ‘Festive Lambs Edition!’ [heart, snowman emoji].”

The refreshed clip opens with footage of MC getting touched up backstage before a quick cut of super-excited fans in their Santa finest getting pumped for the show. The rest of the four-minute visual is essentially a super-cut featuring footage from the concerts intercut with rehearsal run-throughs, peeks at the action backstage, lots of shots of fans singing and dancing along with all their hearts and enough unabashed joy to float you through the next two weeks.

Carey kicked off the tour on Nov. 15 at the Yaamava’ Casino in Highland, CA and she’s kept the sled fueled up through dates at the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles, as well as gigs in Denver, Kansas City, Toronto, Montreal, Detroit, Chicago and Pittsburgh. She’ll touch down in Boston on Monday (Dec. 11) as the run winds down with gigs in Philadelphia (Dec. 13), Baltimore (Dec. 15) and a final gig at Madison Square Garden in New York on Dec. 17.

Because it’s MC’s time of year, of course “All I Want” reclaimed the top spot on both the Billboard Global 200 and the Billboard Global Excl. U.S. charts (dated Dec. 9), dashing from No. 3 to No. 1 on the former and 8-1 on the latter.

Nicki Minaj Drops Her Long-Awaited Sequel ‘Pink Friday 2’: Stream It Now

Thirteen years after releasing her debut album Pink Friday, Nicki Minaj has delivered the long-awaited sequel.

Throughout Pink Friday 2, Minaj barrels through her foes at full throttle, showcasing the same unflappable wit that has made her a rap icon, as proven by her song “Big Difference.” “Like my hunnids blue/ Bad bi–hes, yeah, I keep ’em by the two/ It’s a big difference between me and you/ I ain’t nothin’ like you, you, you or you.”

Collaborators on the project include Future (“Nicki Hendrix”), J. Cole (“Let Me Calm Down”), Lil Uzi Vert (“Everybody”) and gospel star Tasha Cobbs Leonard (“Blessings”).

Minaj previously released the album’s lone single “Last Time I Saw You” with a more pop-centric vibe. “It’s a song about guilt,” she told Vogue in her cover story last month. “And I don’t think people make a lot of music about the experience of guilt. But if you talk to any human being on earth about it, they would know exactly what you mean. That ‘I wish I had’ feeling. Once I wrote the hook, I started to think of people that I love and see every day and still take for granted. You know what I’m saying? So I hope the song does a good thing.”

Pink Friday 2 is Minaj’s first album since her 2018 effort Queen, which included singles such as “Good Form,” “Chun Li,” and “Bed” with Ariana Grande. Along with Grande, Queen had features from Lil Wayne, Future, The Weeknd, and more. The album debuted at No. 2 on the Billboard 200 with 185,000 album-equivalent units.

King Petty: Cam’ron Refuses Melyssa Ford’s Apology Over Under Age Allegations

Even though Cam’ron says he has matured he is the last rapper you want to play with. Killa has refused Melyssa Ford’s apology and dissed her in one fell swoop.

XXL Magazine is reporting that the Diplomats member isn’t trying to hear what the legendary video model has to say. On a recent episode of It Is What It Is Cam’ron recalled a time when he and his cohost MA$E were patronizing a local brothel in New York City. While the story was intended to shine a light on a funny moment between them during their younger years, Melyssa felt the “Horse & Carriage” rappers might have been engaging with an underaged female. “Is there a distinct possibility that there may have been underage girls in that wh*re house?” she asked on The Joe Budden Podcast.

Naturally the commentary got back to Cam’ron and he quickly adjusted his petty crown. “Be careful. I tell you one thing, I know a lot of people in ICE. Snipers, sharpshooters and I know people in ICE” he said alluding to Ford’s Canadian roots. “:I’ll have you escorted back across the border. Be careful. It scream desperation, but we’ll get a petition to get you out the country. Cut it out. I’ll get her out the country. I’ll make two calls, man.”

Melyssa Ford would go on to apologize to Cam’ron and MA$E on the following episode of TJBP saying “I apologize, I should never have made that insinuation,” Melyssa said. But it seems Cam felt the damage had already been done and went at her again on an Instagram post that featured the two taking a picture on what seems to be at a formal event. “I told the b**** ‘don’t touch me’ when we took this pic. F*** you and ya apology!! Stay strong and Stand on business!!” he wrote.

Earlier today (December 7) Cam’ron continued clapping back at her and shared screenshots of Instagram removing the above post about her because it had been flagged for bullying. Melyssa Ford has yet to comment further on the situation.

Update: The saga continues.
