Taylor Swift Says She’s ‘So Moved’ by Single Mother’s ‘Vulnerable’ TikTok About Daughter

Taylor Swift had some emotional words for one Swiftie on TikTok.

Replying to a fan named Jenny, a single mother who’d made a video about her and her 9-year-old daughter’s shared love for the singer, Swift commented on Thursday (Dec. 21), “you just reminded me of why this year has been so special.” “I’m so moved by what you said,” the 12-time Grammy winner added. “It reminds me of me and my mom and the memories we made at that age.”

In the TikTok, Jenny tearfully introduces herself by saying she’s “been a fan forever,” noting that Swift “saved my life growing up.” “I have a 9-year-old daughter who is everything,” she continued, addressing the pop star directly. “And she looks up to you for everything, and your song ‘Mean’ is getting her through bullies at school.”

Jenny went on to explain that she and her daughter had the “best year” together, largely thanks to the way they bonded over Swift’s music, Eras Tour shows and concert film, which they saw together more than five times in theaters. “You get a lot of s–t that you don’t deserve, and I don’t think you get to see the impact you have on people,” she concluded. “You have changed my mom heart and have brought my daughter and I closer together.”

“Thank you so much for sharing this,” the “Anti-Hero” singer added in a second comment. “Being vulnerable enough to share your true emotions is a beautiful thing. Happy Holidays.”

Upon seeing Swift’s replies, Jenny and her daughter shared an adorable video dancing in the car together to the musician’s 1989 (Taylor’s Version) hit “Is It Over Now?” “Is this real?!” she captioned the clip.

Scooter Braun Calls on Artists to Demand Release of Hostages Held by Hamas

Scooter Braun called for popular artists “with much bigger platforms” to demand the release of the hostages that were taken by Hamas from an Israeli electronic music festival.

“Say something, ask for the hostages to come home,” Braun said in an Instagram video posted on Friday (Dec. 22). “Say that no music festival deserves this.” Hamas attacked the Supernova Sukkot Gathering on Oct. 7, killing more than 360 people and taking a number of hostages.

Braun is joined in the Instagram video by Rachel, the mother of a hostage named Hersh. (She is not identified by last name in the video, but her story matches that of Rachel Goldberg.) “The silence from the music industry has been so deafeningly palpable for us,” Rachel says. Later she adds, “I just hope that you will be brave enough to use your platform.”

Braun picks up on this theme. “I’m begging of my own industry to just post something,” he says. “These kids deserved our voices, and we as an industry have done it time and time again — we’ve given our voices.”

In 2017, Braun helped organize a major benefit concert for the victims of the terrorist attack that took place at an Ariana Grande concert in Manchester, England. Grande performed at the benefit along with Justin Bieber, Miley Cyrus, Coldplay, and others, raising more than $12 million. “There’s been so much negativity and such a lack of leadership when we’re looking to have hope,” Braun said at the time.

Read a transcript of Braun’s comments below.

Scooter Braun: I am here with Rachel, Hersh’s mom… Her son is now 76 days being held in Gaza. The last images she saw of him, he had his left arm blown off. He’s a lefty like she is. We just had an amazing conversation I’m going to share. I want to be clear this is not what I do. I find it insane that I’m the one standing here with her or that we’re the ones who had a conversation. There should be people with 100 million followers and much bigger platforms who do this for a living, who are artists, who are reporters, who should be giving her a platform. And privately, she told me she has reached out to so many people, but because of the nuance of the conflict, they don’t want to talk about this. I think every single one of us in our industry knows that if this was any other situation, any other country, we’d be losing our minds speaking of how a music festival is not an appropriate place for people to be shot in cold blood. For them to be blown up or shot as they’re running away or taken prisoner and hostage like her son for over 70 days.

Rachel: I did want to say that 364 young people were killed at the Nova Music Festival. And over 40 of them were taken hostage and are still being held. A lot of those kids were coming from all over the world. And I think that that’s getting lost in a larger picture of pain and confusion, because it is a really complicated neighborhood that we live in. But I think that the silence from the music industry has been so deafeningly palpable for us and for all of the people who have children who were either massacred or are missing. And I just hope that you will be brave enough to use your platform because you have to be able to look at yourself and know that you’re doing the right thing for those kids who died at that festival or those kids who are suffering terribly in captivity right now. And I hope that you have the courage to do that. And maybe what might surprise you is you’ll get more fans and you’ll get more credit in the wold that you’re part of.

Braun: This is not what either of us do. I’m a behind the camera guy and she’s a mom and a teacher. I’m begging of my own industry to just post something, say something, ask for the hostages to come home. Say that no music festival deserves this. These survivors I met last night, they started naming many of you artists and asking me, ‘Why have you said nothing? These are our heroes. What if this happened somewhere else?’ So I’m going to end this here. These kids deserved our voices, and we as an industry have done it time and time again — we’ve given our voices. This was one of our things. This was a music festival. Not asking for you talk about the Kibbutzim right now. I’m not asking for you to talk about the massacre. I’m not even asking you to talk about the conflict right now. This was ours. This was a music festival, a peaceful music festival. They deserve to hear our voices right now as an industry. And shame on us if we don’t do it.

Here’s Every Year-End Billboard Top Artist

It’s the biggest honor that an act can claim on Billboard’s charts each year: the coveted No. 1 spot on the annual Top Artists recap.

As of 2023, the category ranks the year’s best-performing acts based on activity on the Billboard 200 albums chart and the Billboard Hot 100 songs survey, as well as Billboard Boxscore, which recaps touring data.

Taylor Swift rules the 2023 Top Artists tally, making history in the process: As the superstar previously reigned in 2015 and 2009, she is the first act to finish at No. 1 in three distinct decades, dating to the award’s origin in the year-end 1981 Billboard issue.

Further demonstrating Swift’s sustained success on Billboard’s charts, the span from her first Top Artists triumph in 2009 to her latest in 2023 marks the longest in the retrospective’s history.

Meanwhile, Swift and Adele are the only acts to achieve No. 1 successes on Top Artists three times each, as Adele won in 2011, 2012 and 2016.

Eight other artists have each earned the honor of leading Top Artists twice: 50 Cent (2003, 2005), Chris Brown (2006, 2008), Destiny’s Child (2000, 2001), Drake (2018, 2021), Garth Brooks (1992, 1993), New Kids on the Block (1989, 1990), Post Malone (2019, 2020) and Usher (1998, 2004).

Swift’s latest No. 1 finish on Top Artists follows Bad Bunny’s rule in 2022, when he became the first leading act that primarily records Spanish-language music.

From the first list in 1981 to 2023, browse every act that has dominated the annual Top Artists chart, as revealed in every year-end Billboard issue, encompassing superstars in pop, country, R&B/hip-hop, rock and more.

Selena Gomez Shares ‘Healthy’ Relationship Must-Haves Amid Benny Blanco Romance

Selena Gomez has a checklist when it comes to boyfriends. And given that the singer-actress recently confirmed she’s been dating Benny Blanco for about six months, it’s probably safe to say that the producer ticks all her boxes.

Speaking to Vogue México y Latinoamérica in a Spanish language interview translated into English, the “Calm Down” singer shared that she prioritizes a “special connection” with a partner that “allows for self-respect and holds space for the feelings of others.” “Honestly, I have to start being attracted to the right kind of people, because it’s a bit of both,” she continued.

“It’s very hard to find someone who can listen to you and care about you, but I know when it happens it will be great and you will want it to be healthy,” she added.

The Thursday (Dec. 21) cover story comes a couple weeks after the Only Murders in the Building actress revealed in a series of Instagram comments that she and Blanco are dating, telling one fan that he is “my absolute everything in my heart.”

“Not mad,” she added at the time, replying to a commenter who claimed Gomez couldn’t “handle the hate” surrounding her new relationship. “It’s been 6 months bb. I will always defend my friends family and fans till the day I die.”

Since then, the 2024 Golden Globe nominee has posted a handful of photos with her beau, including one of them sharing a passionate kiss. She’s also showed off her letter “B” ring on social media, presumably in tribute to Blanco.

Before they were boyfriend and girlfriend, Blanco and Gomez were collaborators. The hitmaking song engineer and former Disney Channel star worked together on Gomez’s most recent track, “Single Soon,” as well as on Blanco’s “I Can’t Get Enough” alongside Tainy and J Balvin in 2019.

Academy Award-nominated actress Taraji P. Henson is opening up about the struggles of being a Black actor.

The star became visibly emotional as she shared that she has considered quitting acting after regularly being underpaid.

In an interview with Gayle King on SiriusXM, and The Color Purple co-star Danielle Brooks and the film’s director, Blitz Bazawule, Henson addressed a report that she thought about ending her illustrious career as she struggled financially despite her fame.

“I’m just tired of working so hard, being gracious at what I do, being paid a fraction of the cost,” Henson said, according to The Huffington Post. “I’m tired of hearing my sisters say the same thing over and over. You get tired.”

The actor became visibly emotional as she detailed the financial expense of managing her career.

“I hear people go, ‘You work a lot.’ I have to. The math ain’t mathing,” she said. “Big bills come with what we do. We don’t do this alone. The fact that we’re up here, there’s a whole entire team behind us. They have to get paid.”

According to Complex, Henson shared in another recent interview that she replaced her entire team after they failed to capitalize on the success of her role as Cookie Lyon on Empire

In response to being asked what her best decision was as an actor, Henson replied, “Firing everybody after Cookie. Everybody had to fucking go. Where is my deal? Where is my commercial? Cookie was top of the fashion game. Where is my endorsement? What did you have set up for after this?”

Despite Oscar nominations and critical acclaim, Henson notes that she feels underpaid compared to her white counterparts.

“It seems every time I do something and I break another glass ceiling, when it’s time to renegotiate, I’m at the bottom again, like I never did what I just did,” she told King. “And I’m just tired. It wears on you, you know?”

This Christmas, Henson will star alongside Brooks, Fantasia Barrino and an all-star Black cast in the reimagining of the beloved film, The Color Purple. Henson plays the iconic Shug Avery in the Oprah Winfrey-backed release.

Henson was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress for her role in The Curious Case of Benjamin Button where she starred alongside Brad Pitt. She has previously said that despite asking for “half a million” in pay for the role, she was ultimately paid only $150,000. The film went on to earn $127.5 million domestically and $208.3 million in foreign markets, with a total gross of $335.8 million, according to IMDB.

“Listen, I’ve been doing this for two decades and sometimes I get tired of fighting because I know what I do is bigger than me. I know that the legacy I leave will affect somebody coming up behind me,” Henson recently told The Hollywood Reporter. She added that she is advocating for other Black actors. “My prayer is that I don’t want these Black girls to have the same fights that me and Viola [Davis], Octavia [Spencer], we out here thugging it out.”

Henson received support from Gabrielle Union who wrote on X (former Twitter) “Not a damn lie told. Not. A. Damn. Lie. We go TO BAT for the next generation and hell even our own generation and above.”

Rosé Teases BLACKPINK’s ‘A VR Encore’ Concert: ‘Technology Has Finally Caught Up With Our Vision’

As the global phenomenon that is BLACKPINK prepares to unveil BLACKPINK: A VR Encore, an immersive virtual reality experience stemming from the special finale concert of the BORN PINK World Tour, anticipation is high not just from fans, but the members themselves.

Speaking exclusively with Billboard ahead of A VR Encore‘s premiere on Tuesday (Dec. 26), Jisoo, Jennie, Rosé and Lisa dive into their vision and inspiration to take the “next step” intersecting the technology, creativity and energy synonymous with the BLACKPINK brand to jump into virtual reality.

Produced and directed by Emmy winners The Diamond Bros in partnership with Meta, the 70-minute concert will have BLACKPINK and BLINKs experiencing Billboard Hot 100 hits such as “Shut Down,” “Pink Venom” and “How You Like That” like never before. Utilizing Meta Quest 3 headsets, the show takes place in Meta Horizon Worlds’ new Music Valley venue.

BLACKPINK: A VR Encore premieres for free, exclusively in VR on Tuesday, Dec. 26, at 5 p.m. PT in Meta Horizon Worlds. For those unable to attend the live premiere, replays will be available until the end of January in Meta Horizon Worlds.

Fans can RSVP to the event here. Read on for an interview with BLACKPINK on their latest world tour reflections, how the innovative experience came together and what BLINKs can look forward to in the future.

Congratulations on a massive 2023 where your BLACKPINK WORLD TOUR [BORN PINK] won you Top K-Pop Touring Artist at the Billboard Music Awards, and now marks your first virtual reality concert experience. What has this tour meant to you personally?

Rosé: Thank you so much. This tour has been an incredible journey for us. It means a lot that, after the pandemic, we were able to travel the world again and meet all the angels who have supported us. This support has enabled us to do what we love as musicians.

Personally, during this world tour, I was grateful for the lessons learned from our first world tour about setting goals and purposes before heading out. Since it was our first tour after the pandemic, I understood how important it was to really cherish the moments we have with our fans and to do what we love. I feel like I connected with myself and with each crowd in a different way every time. I had so much fun during this world tour.

BLACKPINK: A VR Encore showcases your finale concerts at the Gocheok Sky Dome. What memories do you have from those Seoul shows specifically?

Jennie: The energy from the audience was amazing and made those shows unforgettable — they showed us how strong our connection is with our BLINKs. Despite the many travels, the love we felt at Gocheok Sky Dome, and throughout the tour, made everything worthwhile. These experiences showed us how much we’ve grown with our fans, making our journey together very meaningful.

While creating the experience with The Diamond Bros and Meta, what were the most exciting parts when adding new immersive elements to your show? What are you excited for fans to see?

Jisoo: It’s interesting to think of our performances being presented in a new way with virtual reality. We’re curious about how this different format will bring a fresh perspective to our shows! It’s a new venture, and we’re looking forward to seeing the fans’ reactions to this unique experience.

Lisa: I think the fans will enjoy the playful aspects of the VR concert. It’s like a new, fun experience for them. I hope they can feel the warmth and energy of our performances, even in this new format.

Jennie: It’s a different and unique way to experience our music. I think fans will find it interesting, especially with the immersive sound and visuals. I hope it feels like an exciting and innovative way for them to connect with us.

Why was this the right time for BLACKPINK’s first VR concert?

Rosé: We felt that now was the perfect time for our first VR concert because technology has finally caught up with our vision. We’ve always wanted to offer our fans a new and exciting way to experience our music — VR felt like the next step in achieving that.

Have you been able to preview A VR Encore with the Meta Quest 3 headsets? Any tips for BLINKs having a first-time experience?

Lisa: We’re looking forward to seeing A VR Encore, just like our fans are! The idea of mixing technology with our live shows is interesting — we’re waiting to see what this virtual world is like and how our fans will like it.

Looking at the BLACKPINK WORLD TOUR [BORN PINK] at large, do any particular memories stand out?

Jisoo: In each city on our tours, we took group photos with our fans. Looking back at all these photos together, it really hit us how many fans we’ve shared our journey with. It was a way to capture memories city by city, and the incredible support from BLINKs.

Rosé: As I mentioned earlier, I felt a unique connection to every city. It’s always fascinating to see how each crowd has its own character and personality. What was also interesting was hearing friends predict how wild some cities would be. They were right, but there were also cities where nobody mentioned the crowds, and they turned out to be the loudest I’d ever performed for. Interacting with each crowd in a different way was so much fun, and I loved learning new things about each city.

How do you think BLACKPINK will elevate and upgrade future tours? Do you imagine more immersive ways to connect with fans? What else do you want to share with BLINKs at this time?

Lisa: Whether it’s more VR elements or other immersive experiences, our goal is to keep pushing boundaries and creating unforgettable moments for BLINKs.

Jennie: And to all our BLINKs, we love you and are so grateful for your unconditional support. You inspire us to be better every day, and we promise to keep bringing you music and performances that light up your world. Stay tuned, as we have so much more to share with you!

RBD Conquers Billboard’s November Boxscore Report

After two months at No. 2, a reunited RBD takes the lead as the highest grossing touring act of November. According to figures reported to Billboard Boxscore, the group’s Soy Rebelde Tour grossed $71.1 million and sold 734,000 tickets from Nov. 3 to 30. The tour is the act’s first trek since 2008’s Tour del Adios.

Current through Nov. 30, the Soy Rebelde Tour has grossed $197.1 million since launching in August. About half a million dollars shy of Daddy Yankee’s 2022 farewell tour, RBD’s reunion will become the second-highest grossing tour by a Latin act once its December shows are reported, behind Bad Bunny‘s World’s Hottest Tour.

RBD’s monthly crown is due to hustle. Other than Trans-Siberian Orchestra, the perennial holiday favorite that includes two touring ensembles for either coast of the U.S., RBD played more shows in November than any act among the top 30. With 17 shows split between seven markets, the group earned its spot atop the heap by playing hard.

After sitting at No. 2 behind Beyoncé and Pink in September and October, respectively, RBD levels up, and its routing has much to do with it. Not only did the group play more shows than in either of the previous months, but after touring the U.S., RBD took on Latin America in November, transitioning to a primarily Spanish-language audience.

That move allowed RBD to move from arenas to stadiums, multiplying its nightly audience by more than two. In the U.S., the group paced about 18,000 tickets per night before rocketing to more than 43,000 each show in Colombia, Brazil and Mexico.

But the ticket pricing economy is much different in these geographical regions, and RBD’s average ticket price went from $241.30 in the U.S. to $96.81 in Latin America. In all, its average gross stayed almost the same, even dipping by 4%. But the pure volume of seats that RBD could sell made up the difference, giving RBD its first monthly win yet.

At No. 1 for November, RBD is only the third Latin act to lead the monthly Top Tours chart. Los Bukis first broke ground in September 2021, and Bad Bunny pushed the boundaries further, ruling in February, March, August and September of 2022. Aventura, Daddy Yankee, Maluma, and Rauw Alejandro have also hit the top five.

That means that RBD is the source for the genre’s first female artists to hit the top tier. The mixed-gender group’s reunion features original members Anahi, Dulce Maria and Maite Perroni, all hailing from Mexico. Beyond Latin music, they continue a hot streak for women atop the chart: after a nearly four-year drought, Beyoncé, Pink and RBD have kept women at No. 1 for six of the last seven months.

Beyond the No. 1 act, Pink and Madonna add support at Nos. 3 and 5, respectively. Mariah Carey, Shania Twain, Ms. Lauryn Hill, and in her monthly Boxscore debut, Doja Cat, follow. While a grand total of seven women acts in the top 30 doesn’t give them a majority, the 23.3% gender split is up from the 2023 year-end wrap, where women’s representation doubled from the previous year.

Doja leads a growing list of hip-hop acts on the Top Tours chart. Travis Scott, Rod Wave, Ms. Lauryn Hill & The Fugees and 50 Cent appear between Nos. 22-29. Though they miss the top 10, five rap acts on the chart foreshadow a promising year, when the genre’s share among the top 100 tours of 2023 dipped below 3%.

Four of RBD’s seven stops in November crack the 30-position Top Boxscores chart. Four shows at Allianz Parque in Sao Paulo, Brazil (Nov. 16-19) earned $17.4 million and sold 191,000 tickets, while another four at Estadio Antanasio Girardot (Medellin, Colombia; Nov. 3-6) took in $17.2 million from 150,000 tickets.

In Sao Paulo, RBD played another two shows at Estadio do Morumbi on Nov. 12-13, grossing $11 million. If the group had consolidated their Sao Paulo run at one venue, the combined gross would’ve given them the No. 1 spot with more than $28 million.

Instead, Mexico City’s Corona Capital festival took top honors among individual engagements, as the three-day festival grossed $26.5 million and sold 216,000 tickets. It’s followed by the final three shows of U2’s first leg at Las Vegas’ Sphere. Those shows earned $19.4 million, making up a small part of the $109 million run that began in late September. It’s enough to put Sphere at No. 4 on the Top Venues (15,001+ capacity) chart and situate U2 at No. 12 on Top Tours.

It was a banner month for Latin American shows. Not only did RBD and Corona Capital dominate Top Tours and Top Boxscores, Luis Miguel, Paul McCartney and Red Hot Chili Peppers all charted from shows south of the U.S. Even on Top Promoters, Mexico’s OCESA is No. 2 with $123.9 million and 1.5 million tickets sold, pushing perennial top-two candidate AEG Presents to No. 3, also above $100 million.

On the venue charts, Mexico City and Sao Paulo take the top four spots on Top Stadiums, plus Medellin’s Estadio Atanasio Girardo and Rio de Janeiro’s Estadio Nilton Santos at Nos. 6-7. The former market adds notices on three of the four capacity-based venue charts, notably with Auditorio Nacional at No. 2 among venues with a capacity between 5,001-10k.

Even more, the November recap captures a thriving global box office. Just among the month’s top five tours, RBD and Red Hot Chili Peppers hit Latin America, Coldplay played in Asia and Australia, Pink toured the U.S. and Canada, and Madonna celebrated in Europe. Only two of the top 10 – Morgan Wallen and The Trilogy Tour, starring Enrique Iglesias, Pitbull and Ricky Martin – played exclusively in the U.S. during November.

Trump Co-D Trevian Kutti’s Lawyers Drop Her After Instagram Stunts

The former Kanye West publicist Trevian Kutti will need new lawyers after being dropped by her legal team following her recent Instagram posts.

On Monday (December 18), the legal team defending former Kanye West publicist Trevian Kutti filed a motion with the Fulton County Superior Court to withdraw as her counsel. The document notes that Kutti was advised of the move, and it doesn’t give an explicit reason as to why she was dropped. But it does come after Kutti posted a photo to her Instagram account showing her posing with the convicted January 6 rioter Jacob Chansley, notoriously known as the “QAnon Shaman”, with both holding up middle fingers.

In the caption, Kutti writes “Just like they lied on him THEY ARE LYING ON ME,” with the phrase “Cue the haters” superimposed on the photo. The photo was taken at AmFest 2023, an annual convention for the right-wing organization Turning Point USA which was held over the past weekend in Phoenix, Arizona. Chansley, known for his buffalo headdress, was one of the more prominent insurrectionists who stormed the Capitol building first and received one of the heftiest sentences by far among those convicted.

Kutti, who is on trial as a co-defendant of former President Donald Trump for their attempts to overturn the results of the 2020 presidential election, has been unrepentant over her actions as four of the other 19 indicted by Fulton County have already accepted plea deals and will testify. She even went so far as to threaten election worker Ruby Freeman during an Instagram Live session she held to raise funds for her defense in November. “There’s a woman sitting somewhere who knows that I’m going to f**k her whole life up when this is done,” she said during the video. Such actions can be taken as a violation of her bond agreement.

The filing listed Darryl B. Cohen and the law firm Cohen Cooper Estep & Allen; Steven A. Greenberg and the law firm Greenberg Trial Lawyers; and Joshua G. Herman and the law firm Law Office of Joshua G. Herman as Kutti’s former barristers. She now has ten days to file an objection, prepare to defend herself in court, or seek new legal representation.

The Boyz dropped three records this year: Be Aware, PHANTASY Pt.1 Christmas in August, and PHANTASY Pt.2 Sixth Sense, the former of which landed at No. 11 on Top Album Sales for TBZ’s first entry on the chart.

Previously, the Krazy K-Pop Super Concert (now known as Krazy Super Concert) earned $457,000 and sold 4,625 tickets for its Aug. 26 debut at the UBS Arena, according to Billboard Boxscore. BigHit announced the single earlier this week via Weverse, adding that “Closer Than This” is a “heartfelt fan song that encapsulates Jimin’s genuine feelings for ARMY.”

“As we approach the final days of 2023, we hope that ‘Closer Than This,’ with its lyrics conveying Jimin’s love and affection for his fans, will bring you hope and warmth,” BigHit added.

It’s been a big year for Jimin, who dropped his EP Face in March, and the project subsequently peaked at No. 2 on the Billboard 200. One of the EP’s singles, “Like Crazy,” topped the Billboard Hot 100 in April, becoming the singer’s first No. 1 on the chart as a soloist.

He was also a top nominee at the 2023 MAMA Awards in November with eight nods. He ultimately took home the best male artist award. “Today we received so many valuable awards today,” he wrote to fans afterward on Weverse. “Thank you very much to all ARMYs who always support and love us. We will do our best to show you better music and performances. Thank you again and I love you.”

Jimin and bandmate Jung Kook began their military service on Dec. 12, according to the Associated Press. In addition, fellow BTS members RM and V enlisted a day earlier, while Suga, Jin and J-Hope have already been serving.
