The Grammy-winning artist previously shared his pre-show skincare routine in a video for Vogue‘s “Beauty Secrets,” which included the facial spray, Peter Thomas Roth’s gold eye patches and Jack Black lip balm — to name a few. Our eyes were immediately drawn to the facial spray, because along with being TikTok viral, it’s also been used by Selena Gomez, who posted a video Feb. 18 of herself on TikTok spritzing the beauty product on her face before taking off for a flight.

“6 am flight be like,” the caption says.

Just like the “Single Soon” singer, Usher also uses the spray at the beginning of his skincare routine.

“I love the scent,” he said in the video while spritzing it all over his face before going in with a face cleanser.

Besides its floral aroma, TikTok users have been raving over the formula’s ability to act as a stress relieving tool, leaving their skin glowing while helping prep their skin for makeup and more. User @dajourneugc posted a video breaking down the facial spray‘s multipurpose capabilities including as a setting spray, to refresh your face and can be used morning and night.

Alan Menken to Receive 2024 Howard Ashman Award, Named After His Late Collaborator

Alan Menken is an EGOT winner, so he has enough awards to fill his shelves, and then some. But an award he’s receiving on Feb. 26 figures to be especially meaningful to him – the Howard Ashman Award, named after his longtime collaborator who died of AIDS in 1991.

The award will be presented at GMHC’s ninth annual Cabaret & Howard Ashman Award fundraising event, hosted by Joe’s Pub at the Public Theater in New York City. (GMHC was founded in 1982 as Gay Men’s Health Crisis, though the organization used the acronym in a press release about his event.)

Menken and Ashman received their first Oscar nominations for best original song in 1987 for co-writing “Mean Green Mother From Outer Space” for Little Shop of Horrors. Less than a year later, in January 1988, Ashman was diagnosed with HIV/AIDS.

He kept working until his death in March 1991. Menken and Ashman won the Oscar for best original song in March 1990 for “Under the Sea” from The Little Mermaid another in March 1992 for the exquisite title song from Beauty and the Beast. Ashman received seven Oscar nominations in all – four of them posthumously. That’s more posthumous nominations than anyone else in Oscar history.

Since Ashman’s death, Menken has two additional Oscars for best original song – for “A Whole New World” from Aladdin (which he co-wrote with Tim Rice) and “Colors of the Wind” from Pocahontas (which he co-wrote with Stephen Schwartz).

Schwartz will be at the Feb. 26 event to celebrate Menken, along with Claybourne Elder, Adam Jacobs and Arielle Jacobs. Kyle Branzel will be the music director.

Proceeds from the cabaret will directly support GMHC’s lifesaving programs for thousands of people living with and affected by HIV and AIDS.

Prior Ashman awardees are Lea DeLaria, André De Shields, the late Terrence McNally, Javier Muñoz, Kathy Najimy, Andrew Rannells, Michael Urie, and Tom Viola.

Ashman didn’t live to see the completion of Beauty and the Beast, which was released in November 1991. The film was dedicated to Ashman’s memory, and featured this message after the end credits: “To our friend Howard, who gave a mermaid her voice, and a beast his soul. We will be forever grateful. Howard Ashman 1950-1991.”

SZA Confirms Paramore Collaboration Is ‘In the Works’

Rumors have swirled about SZA potentially teaming up with Paramore in the past, and the SOS artist confirmed that a collaboration is indeed “in the works.”

SZA sat down for a fan Q&A with Apple Music on Tuesday (Jan. 30), and one of the rapid-fire questions asked about the status of the “Snooze” singer working with the rock band.

“Yeah. Soon, soon,” she replied. “It’s in the works.”

Seconds later, SZA revealed that the pop-punk-leaning “F2F” became her favorite song to perform on the SOS Tour. There’s a Paramore connection to the track, as SZA sought out Hayley Williams’ approval on her switching lanes prior to the SOS deep cut’s arrival.

“I was like, ‘Does this suck?’” she recalled messaging the Paramore lead vocalist in an interview with the Los Angeles Times last year. “‘Because you actually do this for a living.’ [Williams] said, ‘This is great.’”

Paramore has long shown love to SZA, as they performed a mash-up of the band’s “Grow Up” with SZA’s “20 Something” at a 2018 concert in Paris. Years ago, Hayley Williams even posted a brief clip to social media singing along to SZA’s Ctrl standout “Garden.”

Don’t be surprised if Paramore is listed as a feature on SZA’s upcoming Lana project, which is said to double as the deluxe edition of the Grammy-winning singer’s chart-topping SOS effort.

Earlier in January, SZA voiced her frustration and lashed out at anonymous leakers for releasing her music without her permission.

“LEAKING MY MUSIC IS STEALING . THIS IS MY JOB . THIS IS MY LIFE AND MY INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY. YOU ARE A FUCKING THIEF AND I PROMISE TO PUT MAXIMUM ENERGY INTO HOLDING EVERYONE ACCOUNTABLE TO THE FULL EXTENT OF THE LAW . I AM TIRED,” SZA wrote on Twitter.

SZA previously addressed song leaks in a November interview with Variety: “When people leak my songs, they ruin them,” she declared. “Then it’s not mine anymore; it’s actually yours. It’s something unfinished that you decided was ready to be shared.”

Kate McKinnon & Mayo Cat Mock Pete Davidson’s Love Life in Hellmann’s Super Bowl Ad: Watch

Meeee-ow! The claws are out in Hellmann’s Super Bowl ad, which features Saturday Night Live alum Kate McKinnon and an adorable feline appropriately named Mayo Cat.

The spot, which debuted Tuesday (Jan. 30), kicks off with the cat-loving comedian trying to figure out what to do with her leftovers of chicken, scallions and a block of cheese. “What am I gonna make with these?!” the actress wonders.

That’s when inspiration — a nod at Hellmann’s food-waste reduction campaign “Make Taste Not Waste” — from her furry companion strikes. “May-ow!” the super fluffy feline meows adorably.

“Mayo …,” McKinnon slowly repeats before she turns to see a giant jar of mayonnaise ready and waiting in her fridge. “Hellmann’s … Holy [censored], you can talk!”

From there, it’s a whirlwind for the SNL alum and her kitty as they make the rounds on morning talk shows, book signings, photo shoots and more, before Mayo Cat lands a particularly high-profile pairing: a relationship with another former SNL cast member by the name of Pete Davidson.

The two go red-carpet official as paps go crazy over the new pair, with one photographer even asking if “it’s serious.” Davidson’s response? A sly nod and smile. But like many of the King of Staten Island‘s relationships, this one was just as short-lived. (Remember his five-month romance with Ariana Grande, during which time they were even more briefly engaged?) By the next scene, Davidson and Mayo Cat’s split (she dumped him!) was splashed on the cover of People.

“You lasted longer than most!” McKinnon consoles her feline friend.

Watch Kate McKinnon, Mayo Cat and Pete Davidson in Hellmann’s Super Bowl ad above, and catch it on game day Feb. 11, when the Kansas City Chiefs and San Francisco 49ers go head to head.

TikTok Pushing Content Creators To Post Longer Horizontal Videos

TikTok made vertical videos all the rave. Now, the social media platform wants its users to start recording longer horizontal videos.

Spotted on The Verge, TikTok is now incentivizing its users to record horizontal videos that are also longer than the standard minute video.

Per The Verge:

TikTok appears to be incentivizing creators to start posting horizontal videos that are more than a minute long, according to a prompt seen by creators @candicedchap and @kenlyealtumbiz. The platform says it will “boost” these videos within 72 hours of posting. Creators who’ve been on TikTok for more than three months will be eligible for the viewership boost as long as the videos are not ads or from political parties.

According to the website, the “YouTube-ization” of the platform has been well underway for quite some time, with the US Government’s not-so-favorite platform pushing 30-minute videos.

TikTok already allows users to upload 15-minute-long videos.

The platform has already pushed users to flood timelines with more YouTube-esque content. The Chinese-owned platform introduced a new paywall program that allows content creators to upload a series of 20-minute-long videos into collections for paying subscribers.

Creators can set their prices to $1 to $190 subscribers. We have no idea who would pay the latter for a subscription.

It’s funny to see TikTok going towards horizontal videos, as other platforms like Instagram and YouTube have been moving towards vertical videos.

We are interested in seeing if TikTok users will use the latest feature.

Ramones Movie Lawsuit, Madonna Strikes Back, Taylor Swift’s Stalker Arrested & More Top Legal News

This is The Legal Beat, a weekly newsletter about music law from Billboard Pro, offering you a one-stop cheat sheet of big new cases, important rulings and all the fun stuff in between.

This week: A long-simmering feud between the families of Joey Ramone and Johnny Ramone has erupted into a new lawsuit over a proposed Netflix biopic; Madonna’s team vows to “vigorously” fight a lawsuit over her late concert starts; a man stalking Taylor Swift is arrested three times before he’s kept behind bars; and much more.

THE BIG STORY: Hey, Ho, Let’s Go … To Court

Joey Ramone and Johnny Ramone — who were very much not actual brothers — didn’t like each other much in life. And guess what? Their heirs don’t like each other much either.

In a lawsuit filed last week in Manhattan court, Johnny’s widow, Linda Ramone, sued Joey’s brother, Mickey Leigh, over allegations that he had “covertly” developed a planned Netflix movie starring Pete Davidson as Joey. She says that any movie based on the pioneering punk band requires her sign-off.

“To permit defendants alone to tell the authoritative story of the Ramones would be an injustice to the band and its legacy,” Linda’s lawyers wrote.

The case is the latest in years of battles between Linda and Mickey, who split 50-50 ownership of the Ramones IP. And it raises interesting legal questions about so-called life rights deals — and how they raise unique challenges in the context of musical biopics.

To learn more, go read our full story, featuring the full backstory, legal analysis and access to the actual court docs.

Other top stories this week…

LATE DEBATE – Madonna’s management team and Live Nation responded to a high-profile lawsuit claiming the music legend harmed her fans by starting New York City concerts later than scheduled, disputing some allegations and saying they plan to “defend this case vigorously.”

TAYLOR’S STALKER HELD IN JAIL – David Crowe, the man charged with stalking Taylor Swift outside her Manhattan home, was ordered by a New York judge to remain in custody after he was arrested for a third time shortly after being released from jail the first time.

JAM MASTER JAY MURDER TRIAL – Two men accused of murdering Run-DMC‘s Jam Master Jay, Karl Jordan, Jr. and Ronald Washington, finally headed to trial this week, more than 21 years after the rap icon’s killing. Prosecutors say the two men killed Jay as payback after a failed cocaine deal; if convicted, they each face the possibility of life in prison.

JIMI HENDRIX ROYALTIES CASE – A London judge issued a ruling that the heirs of Jimi Hendrix’s former bandmates could continue to sue Sony Music over the rights to three classic albums, clearing the way for a trial next year to resolve the contentious lawsuit.

RIDESHARING … A GLOCK? – Chicago rapper Lil Zay Osama was indicted on two federal charges of illegal firearm possession after he allegedly left an automatic Glock pistol in the back of an Uber after a ride in New York City.

50 CENT SUED OVER MIC TOSS – The rapper was hit with a civil lawsuit over an incident last summer in which he was captured on video throwing a microphone at a concert, filed by a Los Angeles radio host who says she was struck by the mic and suffered “severe and permanent injuries.”

FUGEE LAWYER LEAKSDavid Kenner, the attorney who unsuccessfully represented Fugees rapper Pras Michel in his criminal trial case year, pleaded guilty to a criminal contempt charge over allegations that he leaked grand jury materials to reporters ahead of the trial. The lawyer was sentenced to one year of unsupervised probation and will have to pay a fine.

KAT VON D CLEARED – A jury found that celebrity tattoo artist Kat Von D did not violate a photographer’s copyrights when she used his portrait of Miles Davis as the basis for a tattoo she put on the arm of a friend, capping off a closely-watched case against the LA Ink star.

Chita Rivera, Broadway Legend of ‘West Side Story’ Fame, Dies at 91

Broadway legend Chita Rivera has died. She was 91. According to The New York Times, Rivera’s death was confirmed via a statement issued by her daughter Lisa Mordente.

The iconic singer, dancer and actress graced the Broadway stage for nearly seven decades, originating iconic roles like Anita in West Side Story (1957), Rose in Bye Bye Birdie (1960), Velma Kelly in Chicago (1975), and the Spider Woman in Kiss of the Spider Woman (1993). Her final appearance on the Broadway stage was as Claire Zachannassian in The Visit in 2015.

Throughout her career, Rivera — who was born in Washington, D.C. to a Puerto Rican father and a mother of Scottish and Italian descent — received a total of 10 Tony Award nominations, tying her with Julie Harris for the most nominations for an actress at the ceremony. She won two out of the 10: in 1984 for The Rink and in 1993 for Kiss of the Spider Woman. She was also the recipient of a Lifetime Achievement Tony Award in 2018.

Outside of Broadway, Rivera played Mrs. Dame on a 1964 episode of The Outer Limits titled “The Bellero Shield” and had a recurring role as Connie Richardson in 1973 on The New Dick Van Dyke Show.

In 2002, Rivera was the first Latina to receive a Kennedy Center Honor, and, in 2009, she was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom by President Barack Obama.

“As I was sitting among all these amazing people, I had time to really try to be comfortable because I was in awe of everyone, not believing that I was actually sitting there myself,” Rivera told the AP back when she was honored with the Presidential Medal of Freedom. “Then I heard the president speak. And before he gave us our medals, he said that we were people who did what we did out of passion. Not for fame. Not for money. And that we have done everything in our power to be examples for the future. … (And then) I actually said to myself, ‘Yes, that is my intention. Yes, I have worked all of these years. Yes, I do look forward to being an example for the future of our children.’”

Former ‘Call of Duty’ GM Johanna Faries Appointed President of Blizzard Entertainment

Blizzard Entertainment has a new president, Johanna Faries.

Effective February 5, Johanna Faries will succeed Mike Ybarra, who left the company last week after news of Xbox and Activision laying off 1,900 employees.

Fairies has been a part of the Blizzard family since 2018, first as commissioner of Call of Duty esports before being promoted to general manager of Call of Duty.

Before bringing her talents to the video game space, Faries was the club business development vice president for 11 years at the NFL.

In her announcement, Faries spoke on becoming President while acknowledging the massive layoffs at the company.

“I want to let you know immediately that it is an honor to join you next week in this new capacity. I do so humbly and in awe of all that Blizzard has stood for and delivered to the world for over thirty years. Today also brings some mixed emotions,” Faries said.

“The loss of talented teammates in recent days is hard to hold side-by-side with the immense excitement I feel about joining Blizzard – and building on the momentum you’ve created for Blizzard’s next chapter.”

She continued, “I am committed to doing everything I can to help Blizzard thrive, with care and consideration for you and for our games, each unique and special in their own right.”

Power Moves For Women of Color In The Video Games Space

Fairies is the latest woman of color to land a  high-ranking video game industry position. In a shift of its leadership structure, Xbox promoted Sarah Bond to President.

In an exclusive interview with HHW Gaming’s Bernard “Beanz” Smalls, Faries discussed the importance of seeing someone like her in prominent roles in the gaming industry.

It’s an honor in every way to be able to occupy this chair and this role. I know that it represents a lot for a lot of different people, beyond just being a business executive. People who have the ambition to be a part of great franchises and also be a part of tech and gaming, generally speaking, but also for women and minorities and underrepresented communities who are still coming up the ranks within our industry in particular.

Congrats to Johanna Faries. We’re looking forward to seeing what her leadership brings to Blizzard.
