Remy Banks Breaks Down His New Album champ hoody music ep. 3

Queens native and World’s Fair member Remy Banks just dropped the final installment of his champ hoody music series. His first album in three years, Banks took a break from music in 2021 after releasing the phantom of paradise. “That album was the introduction [of] where I was taking my sound,” he tells Billboard. “I also started working on ventures outside of music and started setting up Banks’ Buds Co. in the legal cannabis world with something dope happening in April with the homie K-Dog. So, smokers stay tuned.”

After his brief hiatus, Remy felt inspired. “I began piling up records and [it] got to a point where it felt like I had two albums. One half of the songs had the champ hoody feel and the other half had kick in the door energy.” Champ hoody music ep. 3 is a smooth nine-track ride perfect for the upcoming spring weather. It features Domo Genesis, Goya Gumbani, Lojii, GVVAAN, 3wayslim, and Fly Anakin with production from argov, soul.exe, Graymatter, ewonee, Laron, and Rockwilder (yes, that Rockwilder). My favorite track, so far, is “place i rep.,” my favorite verse from Remy is probably at the end of “cloth talk.,” and my favorite feature is a toss up between the supremely underrated Domo Genesis and Fly Anakin.

We caught Banks after his released the first single and video for the project, “sunrays,” and had him break down each song for us.

Karl Wallinger of The Waterboys & World Party Dies at 66

Karl Wallinger, who was a short-lived member of Welsh rock band The Waterboys and then helmed his solo project World Party, died Sunday (March 10). He was 66, according to his publicist. No cause of death or place was given.

Wallinger also worked with Sinead O’Connor, had his music covered by Robbie Williams, and was featured on 1994’s Reality Bites soundtrack.

The multi-instrumentalist was born in Prestatyn, Wales, in 1957. After serving as musical director for a West End production of The Rocky Horror Picture Show, Wallinger joined the Michael Scott-led Waterboys for the alternative rock band’s second album, 1984’s A Pagan Place, providing keyboards, percussion and backing vocals. By the time he finished work on their third album, This Is the Sea, which included the Scott/Wallinger composition “Don’t Bang the Drum,” he was done.

Trending on Billboard

In its review of 1985, a Waterboys’ boxed set devoted to the creation This Is the SeaMojo describes the fractious, yet fruitful musical dynamic between Scott and Wallinger. “It’s the volatile relationship between [Wallinger] and Scott that forms another key narrative on 1985. Long, stoned sessions at Seaview, Wallinger’s home studio in central London, prove inventive. A first instrumental take on ‘The Pan Within’ is a gorgeous meeting of aesthetics, with Scott – organic, gestural – on piano and guitar, and Wallinger providing rubbery, funky synth bass and drumbox.”

Shortly thereafter, Wallinger left The Waterboys and in 1986 formed World Party, a primarily solo endeavor with Wallinger bringing in a revolving cast of musicians as needed to his atmospheric pop universe.

World Party’s debut album, Private Revolution, spawned what ended up being the act’s biggest hit, the cynical indie-pop anthem “Ship of Fools,” which reached No. 27 on the Billboard Hot 100. The album included a then-unknown Sinead O’Connor on backing vocals and Wallinger then helped O’Connor on her album debut, 1988’s The Lion and the Cobra. Wallinger reissued “Ship of Fools” in 2018 with a new video that included newsreel footage of Donald Trump, Vladimir Putin, Stormy Daniels, refugee camps and environmental crises. The lyric video concluded with the declaration “Now more than ever.”

World Party’s second album, Goodbye Jumbo, included “Way Down Now,” which reached No. 1 on Billboard‘s Alternative Songs chart, and “Put the Message in the Box” and was nominated for best alternative music performance at the 33rd annual Grammy Awards. World Party’s fourth album, 1997’s Egyptology, included “She’s the One,” which Williams later covered and took to No. 1 on the U.K. Singles Chart.

Wallinger suffered an aneurysm in 2001 and had to reteach himself to talk and play instruments. Following his recovery, World Party returned to the road, including playing South by Southwest and Bonnaroo in 2006. Their last tour was in 2015, and their last recording was 2012’s Arkeology, a 70-track collection of new and live songs, as well as cover tunes. “It was my homespun attempt at making something interesting,” he told BuzzineNetwork. “On this album there’s lots of different kinds of music…It’s not really one genre which has been one of our problems, actually; we’ve never been able to be marketed to any particular audience. It’s just music really.”

In a 2022 interview with The Big Takeover Show, following the reissue of Egyptology, Wallinger talked about the power of music and what he aimed for as a songwriter: “It’s good to write songs about stuff that people think about, that I thought about … I’ve always thought it should be something to do with healing or finding things out about the world that have truth. It maybe sounds a little idealistic, but it’s what music is about. It’s kind of a pure thing, music. I’m not left or right wing; I don’t even think in terms of that. I just want people to have what they need to get through living on the planet.”

Survivors include his wife, a son and daughter, and two grandchildren.

Reneé Rapp Makes Red Carpet Debut With Towa Bird

Looks like Reneé Rapp is no longer single!

The “Tummy Hurts” singer attended the annual Vanity Fair Oscars Party on Sunday night (March 10) alongside Towa Bird, a fellow musician who spent the past few months touring with Rapp as a supporting act on the latter’s Snow Hard Feelings Tour.

According to People, the two first posed separately on the red carpet, with Rapp rocking a flowing white gown with a plunging V-neck and high slit. Bird, meanwhile, opted for a light-wash denim suit lined with studs and completed with a fitting embroidered bird on the lapel.

Rapp and Bird then posed together on the carpet, before heading inside Wallis Annenberg Center for the Performing Arts and spending time together inside the party. While the duo looked close in photos, neither person has publicly confirmed or denied the relationship.

Rapp is a week out from her March 4 concert in Dublin, the last show of her tour’s European leg, which kicked off Feb. 13 in Paris. As of now, she’ll next take the stage in April at Coachella, where she’s slated to perform both weekends on the 14th and 21st.

During a recent show in Paris, Rapp performed a cover of Beyoncé’s 2016 country track “Daddy Lessons” in celebration of the superstar’s return to the genre — which prompted Queen Bey to send the “Poison Poison” singer a bouquet of flowers as a thank you gift.

Former Honduran President Convicted Of US Drug Trafficking

The former president of Honduras was convicted in a federal court of trafficking tons of cocaine into the United States and aiding local cartels.

On Friday (March 8), a Federal District jury in New York City found former Honduran president Juan Orlando Hernández guilty of conspiracy to import cocaine, illegally using and carrying machine guns, and possessing machine guns as part of a “cocaine-importation conspiracy.” Also known as JOH, the 55-year-old Hernández was charged with smuggling over 500 tons of cocaine into the United States from Colombia and Venezuela via Honduras since 2004, before his ascension to the presidency. “He paved a cocaine super-highway to the United States,” said federal prosecutors during the trial, stating that he worked with the infamous Sinaloa drug cartel headed by Joaquin “El Chapo” Guzman and enriched himself as the country sank into high levels of corruption and poverty.

Hernández had portrayed himself as a “law and order” candidate with the right-wing Honduras National Party in 2013 on his way to his first term as president. His vows to crack down on traffickers and crime received praise from the Trump administration, but prosecutors aided by a slew of witnesses testified about how much he was allied with the cartels in the country as well as Mexico and other countries who paid him millions. The disgraced politician once said he’d “stuff the drugs right up the noses of the gringos,” according to witnesses, “and they won’t even notice.” It’s the first such prosecution of a foreign politician since the prosecutions of former Panamanian General Manuel Noriega in 1992 and Guatemala’s Alfonso Portillo in 2014 and comes three years after the conviction of his brother, Juan Antonio on similar charges.

Witnesses for the prosecution included Devis Leonel Rivera, head of the powerful Los Cachiros cartel; Fabio Lobo, the son of former president Porfirio Lobo (2010-2014) and Alexander Ardon, a member of Hernández’s former party. Rivera, who admitted to being involved in 78 murders including that of two American journalists, testified that he personally bribed Hernandez with $250,000. “They should have tried to catch us,” he said on the stand, saying that instead “they allied with us.”Outside of the courthouse, many celebrated the verdict with signs in Spanish reading, “No clemency for narcopolitics.” Hernández is scheduled to be sentenced on June 26 and faces life in prison.

Your Bestie Miss Westie Is Dropping An Album Inspired By Kanye West’s Debut LP

You Care: North West Announces She Is Dropping An Album

Source: WWD / Getty / North West / Kanye West

Life father, like daughter? It would seem North West is following in the steps of her dad, Kanye West, musically, that is.

Spotted on HipHopDX, Ye’s seed, North, is gearing up to bless her besties with an album that pays direct homage to her father’s first project.

During Vultures 2’s “listening event” in Phoenix on Sunday (March 10), standing side by side with her dad, North West announced that her album was coming.

“I’ve been working on an album, and it is called Elementary School Dropout,” the 10-year-old told her dad’s loyal to fault fans.

If you’re saying that to yourself, that sounds familiar, but it is because it is a cheeky play on her West’s first album, College Dropout, which introduced the rapping super producer to the Hip-Hop world.

The album arrives after Northie made her rapping debut on the Ty Dolla $ign assisted album Vultures 1 track, “Talking.”

In the song, the daughter of Ye and Kim Kardashian rapped, “I love it here/We’re gonna take over another year/It’s your bestie, Miss, Miss Westie/Don’t try to test me/It’s gonna get messy/ Just, just bless me, bless me/It’s your bestie, Miss, Miss Westie.”

Ye’s other children, Psalm and Chicago, were at the listening event and hit the stage while their older sister spit her bars.

Oh The Irony

West’s exposing his kids to social media and public light is strange because he has made big stinks about North being on TikTok and his ex-wife, Kim Kardashian, exposing them to social media.

Also, the hypocritical religious zealot wants everyone and the world to see his wife Bianca Censori’s goodies because he’s currently dressing her in as little clothing as possible.

When Will North West’s Album Arrive?

No word on when North West’s album is dropping. Maybe he will release it alongside Vultures 2, which he claims will not be available on digital streaming platforms. So there is a good chance it won’t see the light of day.

The first Vultures project had to be pulled due to numerous copyright issues. The rapper/producer, famous for making beats using samples, somehow forgot how clearing them works.

Honestly, add this North West album to something we (particularly this writer) aren’t checking for.

Jimmy Kimmel Says He Was Told Not to Read Donald Trump’s 2024 Oscars Criticism During Live Show

When you’ve hosted the Oscars four times, you probably have a little more leeway in doing what you want instead of what you’re asked. That’s apparently how it went down with one particular viral moment during the 96th annual Academy Awards on Sunday (March 10), when host Jimmy Kimmel decided to share Donald Trump’s criticism of the live show.

The comedian sat down with Kelly Ripa and Mark Consuelos for After the Oscars, which aired Monday morning on ABC, to discuss how the moment came to be. The topic came up after the Live With Kelly and Mark cohosts mentioned Al Pacino’s flub in announcing the best picture winner from the Dolby Theatre stage in Los Angeles. Rather than reading off the names of all the nominated projects, the celebrated 83-year-old actor skipped over the titles of the 10 films and went straight to opening the envelope and revealing the winner with a non-traditional, “And my eyes see Oppenheimer!”

“I guess he’s never watched an award show before? It seems like everyone in America knows the rhythm of how it’s supposed to go down to ‘And the Oscar goes to …,” Kimmel noted. And because of that unique and very brief announcement, the late-night host said he was told he had some extra time to kill — but his idea for eating up an extra moment or two didn’t go over so well.

Trending on Billboard

“I was like, ‘I’m reading the Trump tweet,’” Kimmel shared. “They were like, ‘No! No don’t read that!’ I said, ‘Yes I am!’”

And so, he did. The Jimmy Kimmel Live! host pulled out his cellphone while on stage and proceeded to share the twice-impeached former president’s review of the comedian’s fourth time hosting the Oscars. Trump’s critique posted to Truth Social read in part, “Has there EVER been a WORSE HOST than Jimmy Kimmel at The Oscars. His opening was that of a less than average person trying too hard to be something which he is not, and never can be.” He also slammed the ceremony as a “really bad politically correct show.”

Kimmel’s clapback to Trump on the live telecast? “Isn’t it past your jail time?”

The former president, who is also the frontrunner for the Republican presidential nomination this year, is currently facing four criminal indictments and more than 90 charges in various states.

Flavor Flav Gave Billie Eilish a Barbie-Themed Diamond Clock Chain at Oscars Afterparty

A second Academy Award wasn’t the only hardware Billie Eilish left the Oscars with. Flavor Flav pulled up to the awards ceremony on Sunday (March 10) with a Barbie-themed clock chain, and he made sure to bring a duplicate for his friend.

The former Public Enemy rapper met up with the “Happier Than Ever” singer at the Vanity Fair afterparty on Sunday night to personally gift Billie Eilish with the bubblegum bling, as the pair flaunted their matching jewelry.

Footage emerged of the heartwarming interaction as Eilish screamed in shock as Flav unwrapped the hot pink diamond clock inscribed with her name using the classic Mattel Barbie doll font.

“Oh my God,” Billie said in shock as she posed for photos holding up the necklace alongside Flavor Flav and Jon Batiste. Eilish and Flav shared a warm embrace before the clip cut off.

This wasn’t the dynamic duo’s first time meeting one another; the pair were photographed together at a Golden Globes afterparty in January.

It was yet another memorable night in Billie Eilish’s decorated career. The 22-year-old collected her second Academy Award victory with her brother Finneas as Barbie‘s “What Was I Made For?” won best original song honors at the 2024 Oscars, making both the youngest two-time Oscar winners in history.

“I had a nightmare about this last night,” Eilish said during her acceptance speech. “I didn’t think this would happen, I wasn’t expecting this. I feel so incredibly lucky and honored. I’m so grateful for this song and this movie and the way that it made me feel, and this goes out to everyone who was affected by the movie and how incredible it is.”
