The Chicago rapper and Corley released a joint statement regarding the split, which was posted to Corley’s Instagram Story as well as Chance’s on Wednesday (April 3), explaining that they are divorcing after a period of separation and that the couple came to the decision “amicably.”

“After a period of separation, the two of us have arrived at the decision to part ways,” Chance and Corley wrote. “We came to this decision amicably and with gratitude for the time we spent together. God has blessed us with two beautiful daughters who we will continue to raise together. We kindly ask for privacy and respect as we navigate this transition. Thank you.”

The Grammy-winning artist and Corley have two daughters together: Kensli, who is seven years old, and Marli, a four-year-old.

Chance and Kirsten have been friends since childhood as the rapper first laid eyes on Corley when he was just nine years old. They eventually began dating as adults in 2013 before getting married in March 2019 with an extravagant celebration at the Pelican Hill Resort in Newport Beach, Calif. The couple endured a brief split in 2016 but quickly got back together.

Chano’s marriage has played a major role in his music career, as he often incorporated parts of his relationship into his art. His wedding was an inspiration behind his 2019 album The Big Day.

The project served as his official debut album, peaking at No. 2 on the Billboard 200. He hasn’t released a studio LP since.

Tyla’s ‘Water’ Surges to No. 1 on Hot R&B Songs Chart

It’s Tyla’s turn at No. 1 on Billboard’s Hot R&B Songs chart as the singer-songwriter’s “Water” springs from No. 4 to rule the list dated April 6. The song, which reached a prior No. 2 best as far back as November, pools enough activity to claim the throne on the heels of its parent album’s release March 22.

In the March 22-28 tracking week, “Water” recorded 10.3 million official U.S. streams, a 17% surge from 8.8 million in the previous frame, according to Luminate. The boost pushes the single 5-4 on R&B Streaming Songs, where it previously peaked at No. 2, and wins Greatest Gainer honors, given each week to the song with the largest improvement among the chart’s 15 titles. Plus, the latest haul gives “Water” its best streaming week since Jan. 5-11, when it accrued 10.9 million clicks.

For the two remaining metrics that funnel into the Hot R&B Songs chart – song sales and radio airplay – “Water” sold 2,000 downloads in the same period, a 17% bump from the prior week, and registered 51.7 million in airplay audience across all formats, down 4%.

Trending on Billboard

“Water” was already a proven smash on Rhythmic Airplay and Mainstream R&B/Hip-Hop Airplay, ruling the charts for one and eight weeks, respectively, over the winter, helping explain the current audience decline. It remains active, however, at pop radio, holding at its No. 6 high on the Pop Airplay chart. The crossover appeal reflects the singer-songwriter’s “popiano” sound — a hybrid of pop, R&B and Afrobeats characteristics, as detailed in Tyla’s March Billboard cover story.

The song’s streaming and sales growth aligns with the release of Tyla’s self-titled debut album March 22. The set, released via FAX Records/Epic Records, opens at No. 2 on the Top R&B Albums chart with 24,000 equivalent album units earned in its first week. The arrival makes the set only the second of 2024 to debut in the top two, following the No. 1 launch of Usher’s Coming Home in February.

Beyond “Water,” Tyla finds five more tunes on Hot R&B Songs: “Truth or Dare” rises 8-7 in its eighth chart week, while four tracks – “Art” (No. 8), “No. 1,” featuring Tems (No. 13), “Jump,” with Gunna and Skillabeng, and “Safer” (No. 22) – all debut.

Notably, Tyla tops Hot R&B Songs after SZA had reigned for 66 of the past 68 weeks, via four No. 1s.

Elsewhere, Tyla floods the Billboard U.S. Afrobeats Songs chart, as 12 of the album’s cuts land on the 50-position list. “Water” retains the top rank for a 25th consecutive and total week, while a familiar set of titles shows in the top 10: “Truth or Dare” (No. 3), “Art” (No. 4), “No. 1” (No. 5), “Jump” (No. 6) and “Safer” (No. 8), while the Becky G collaboration “On My Body” begins at No. 10. With the tidal wave, Tyla becomes the first act to occupy seven of the top 10 spots on the two-year-old chart.

The “Water” triumphs add to a spate of honors of late for the single. In addition to the Afrobeats Songs and radio crowns, the track won the singer, age 22, the first-ever Grammy Award presented for best African music performance, on Feb. 4. “It’s something that a lot of people strive toward and want to win at least once in their lifetime,” she said in the cover profile. “And I’m so blessed to have received one so early in my career.”

Jonathan Mannion Pays Homage To Legendary Skateboarder Harold Hunter

On Tuesday, April 2, legendary skater turned actor Harold Hunter would’ve turned 50-years-old. Although he’s not here to celebrate such a milestone with us, famed photographer Jonathan Mannion is ensuring his legacy continues on.

According to Hypebeast, Mannion took to the streets of New York City to plaster the likeness of Hunter throughout Downtown Manhattan using never-before-seen photos he took with Hunter during their skate sessions back in 1997. While many of today’s youth may be unfamiliar with the Kids actor (classic film), Mannion included a QR code that would inform onlookers of his legacy and how he utilized skateboarding to positively impact his community.

For better or worse you have to appreciate technology these days.

Per Hypebeast:

Outside his celebrated history with Zoo York, Hunter was cherished for his exuberant and welcoming personality that transcended the world of skateboarding, leading to a number of modeling and acting roles during the ’90s, including campaigns with Tommy Hilfiger and Larry Clark’s seminal film, Kids(1995). “Harold’s skateboard was just a vehicle,” said actor Rosario Dawson, who grew up in the same neighborhood as the skater, in a past interview. “He became famous for his personality and his spirit. If anybody came to New York, he would take them in and show them the city.” Hunter was tragically found dead in the Manhattan housing project he grew up in on February 17, 2006, from a heart attack. He was 31.

“It is for all of these insights gained that day about Harold’s spirit that I have chosen to hold him as high as possible on what would have been his 50th Birthday, in order to begin to share deeper layers of his humanity,” said Mannion in a release regarding the partnership. “Crying tears from infectious laughter, calmer introspective moments, pure connection with community as he interacted with anyone who he encountered… they don’t make them like Harold anymore,” Mannion added.

Here’s to hoping that Mannion’s tribute to Hunter inspires a few souls to follow suit one way or another. According to Mannion, the Harold Hunter Foundation helped make his tribute possible.

Olivia Rodrigo Kisses Chappell Roan During Guts World Tour’s Boston Stop

Olivia Rodrigo kissed Chappell Roan at their concert Tuesday night (April 2), giving the indie musician a proper sendoff following her final opening set on the Guts World Tour.

Toward the end of Rodrigo’s second performance at Boston’s TD Garden, the 21-year-old pop star greeted fans gathered at the barricade near the stage — something that’s become a tradition at her Guts shows. This time, though, the “Casual” singer was there waiting.

When Rodrigo saw Roan amongst the concertgoers, she excitedly embraced the 26-year-old rising star and planted a big smooch on her mouth. Jumbotrons captured the sweet moment, which made the crowd cheer louder.

The pair waved goodbye into the camera before making their way into the wings, signifying the end of Roan’s time on the Guts Tour.

The “Red Wine Supernova” artist has been with the trek since it kicked off in February in Palm Springs, Calif., warming up audiences across the U.S. and Canada with performances of songs from her 2023 album The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess. Roan will now pass the baton to The Breeders, who will alternate with Remi Wolf and Pinkpantheress as the next tour openers.

Following her shows in Boston, Rodrigo is now headed to New York City for a four-night stint at Madison Square Garden starting Friday (April 5). On her first-ever arena tour, the former High School Musical: The Musical: The Series star has been performing tracks from her debut and sophomore albums, 2021’s Sour and 2023’s Guts, both of which topped the Billboard 200.

Ramones Movie Lawsuit: Joey’s Brother Blasts ‘Flimsy’ Case From Johnny’s Widow Over Netflix Biopic

Joey Ramone‘s brother is fighting back against a lawsuit filed by Johnny Ramone’s widow over a planned Netflix movie about the pioneering punk band, calling the case “baseless and flimsy” and filing his own countersuit against her.

Johnny’s wife (Linda Cummings-Ramone) sued Joey’s brother (Mitchel Hyman, better known as Mickey Leigh) in January over allegations that he had “covertly” developed an “unauthorized” biopic, believed to be Netflix’s announced moving starring Pete Davidson as Joey. In the lawsuit, Linda said that any “authoritative story of the Ramones” would require her sign-off.

But in a sharply-worded response filed last month, Mickey’s attorneys argued that Linda had, in fact, already greenlit such a movie many years ago – and that her “baseless” lawsuit was simply one more step in a years-long plan to “install herself as the Queen of the Ramones.”

Trending on Billboard

“Ms. Cummings-Ramone’s main purpose is to embarrass, harass, and destroy the integrity of Mr. Hyman, create an utterly false narrative about him, rewrite her role in the history of the Ramones, and win a popularity contest in which, in her mind, she takes over … the legacy of a band of which she never was a member and had nothing to do with creatively,” Mickey’s lawyers wrote in the March 15 filing.

A representative for Linda did not immediately return a request for comment on Wednesday.

Joey (real name Jeffrey Ross Hyman) and Johnny (real name John William Cummings) were not actually brothers, and they had a notoriously chilly relationship during their decades as bandmates. In the years since the two passed away, that feud has seemingly continued between Mickey and Linda.

As the executors of Joey and Johnny’s respective estates, Mickey and Linda each own half of Ramones Productions Inc., the holding company that controls the band’s music and other assets. But that partnership has not gone smoothly, featuring multiple lawsuits and arbitrations over the past decade.

The latest legal scuffle was triggered in part by the plans for a movie version of I Slept With Joey Ramone, Mickey’s 2009 memoir, which Netflix announced in April 2021. In her January lawsuit, Linda said that such a project would need the sign-off of Ramones Productions and not just Joey’s estate.

“Ms. Ramone objects to defendants’ attempt to create a Ramones film without her involvement — not to be obstinate, but rather based on defendants’ disregard for [Ramones] assets and their conduct and treatment of Ms. Ramone and her late husband,” Linda’s attorneys wrote at the time. “To permit defendants alone to tell the authoritative story of the Ramones would be an injustice to the band and its legacy.”

But in his recent response, Mickey argued that the planned movie is about him and his brother, and is “not intended to be a ‘Ramones movie’ or a Ramones biopic.” And he pointed to a 2006 agreement in which he argued that Linda had already granted her approval to a film based on the I Slept With Joey Ramone book: “Ms. Cummings-Ramone did consent to Defendants’ development and production of a motion picture,” Mickey’s lawyers wrote.

In a copy of the alleged agreement filed in court, Ramones Productions granted approval to a company called Rosegarten Films to produce a movie based on the then-unpublished memoir. It’s unclear if that specific company is involved in the currently-planned film, but television and film producer Rory Rosegarten was listed an executive producer when Netflix announced the movie in 2021.

In a statement to Billboard on Wednesday, Mickey echoed his argument that the movie was not going to be about the Ramones as a band.

“The fact is, I did not write ‘I Slept With Joey Ramone: A Punk Rock Family Memoir’ about my brother’s band and had no intention whatsoever of doing that,” he said. “I wrote a story about growing up with a big brother who endured a severe somatic malady at birth, and later developed neurogenic problems. That led to doctors making diagnoses that he would never be able to function on his own in society — and that big brother, with support from his family, proved those doctors wrong as he went on to do great things with his life and become an inspiration to millions.”

The recent court filings came as part of Mickey’s so-called answer to the Linda’s lawsuit, denying the many accusations leveled against him in her lawsuit. Along with it, he filed his own counterclaims against her, arguing that it was Linda who had actually breached their partnership agreement with a “pattern of egregious conduct.”

The counterclaims set the stage for potentially years of litigation over Linda and Mickey’s back-and-forth accusations. Just like Linda’s original lawsuit, Mickey’s new case covers a wide range of alleged wrongdoing in their joint management of the Ramones assets well beyond just the proposed movie.

“She is driven by an alternate agenda, including her own fame and vanity, as well as a self-serving desire to obstruct projects and control RPI for reasons which conflict with her fiduciary duties and cause her to avoid any modicum of cooperation with Mr. Hyman,” Mickey’s lawyers wrote.

KAI Media, Company Behind K-Pop Label hello82, Raises More Funding For Expansion

KAI Media, a company that focuses on physical K-pop music and fan events in brick-and-mortar locations, raised $3 million from existing investor CRIT Ventures to fund expansion beyond its Los Angeles base. The company, which operates under the name hello82, had previously raised $5 million from CRIT Ventures, Kakao Entertainment, Snow Corp. and other investors.

Founded in 2018, hello82 is a record label and distributor that sells music on physical formats via its online store, pop-up shops and physical locations. The label acquires physical rights while other labels retain the rights for digital releases. It operates an e-commerce store, sells products at its own brick-and-mortar location and has relationships with national chains such as Target, Walmart and Barnes & Noble. After launching its first Fan Space in Los Angeles, hello82 will open a second Fan Space in Atlanta this Saturday (April 6) and plans to launch a third in the Berlin. The Fan Space is a retail store as well as a gathering place for K-pop fans that hosts meet-and-greets with artists, photo trading card events, album release events and merchandise pop-ups.

The focus on real-world events and physical products is a throwback marketing approach in the age of streaming music and social media. But hello82’s approach has produced results. The latest album by ATEEZ, THE WORLD EP.FIN: WILL, reached No. 1 on the Billboard 200 album chart in December 2023 with physical sales of 146,000 units — 96% of total album units — thanks to more than 30 collectible editions made available. P1Harmony Harmony: All In, 6th Mini Album was available in 21 collectible CD editions and debuted at No. 8 on Billboard’s Top Album Sales chart in July 2023.

“We were born as a ‘fan-first’ company because we are fans ourselves,” Jae Yoon Choi, CEO and founder of hello82, said in a statement. “While the music industry usually focuses solely on artists and music, we’ve successfully created a two-way bridge between both K-pop and fans outside of South Korea. We are ready to take our formula to new international markets, including Europe, so that we can continue to showcase South Korean artists and connect them with fans.”

Travis Kelce Shares What He’s Learned From Taylor Swift About Music: ‘It’s Very Eye-Opening’

Travis Kelce doesn’t need to attend any of the several Taylor Swift-centered college classes being taught at universities across the world — he gets to learn from the master herself.

While promoting his spring music festival Kelce Jam, the Kansas City Chiefs tight end gushed about what he’s learned about music and live shows from his superstar girlfriend, whose global Eras Tour he’s attended several times in the past year. “It’s definitely been fun to experience her taste in music, for sure,” he told Entertainment Tonight Tuesday (April 2).

“She’s so amazing at what she does, and to find that creativity to see where she likes to pull things from, and just really how she listens to music, it’s very eye-opening to me,” he added.

Trending on Billboard

Kelce also confirmed that he plans on attending some of Swift’s upcoming shows in Europe — “You know I gotta go support!” — and said that the “Anti-Hero” singer’s music is featured in his “everyday playlist.”

“We’re both very career driven,” he continued. “We both love what we do. Any chance that I can show my support to her, and knowing that she’s shown me all the support in the world throughout the season — it’s just been an amazing experience getting to know Tay.”

The Ohio native spent Tuesday speaking with a number of publications about Kelce Jam, which will feature a lineup led by Lil Wayne and 2 Chainz at Azura Amphitheater in Bonner Springs, Kan., on May 18. He told Billboard during his press day that both artists have been two of his favorites since high school, adding, “I think this is going to be the last hoo-rah for me this year, celebrating the [2024] Super Bowl with the city of Kansas City because of how much I appreciate and love them.”

While chatting with The Hollywood Reporter, he touched on how witnessing Swift’s Eras Tour has inspired his Kelce Jam planning. “She’s on a whole other stratosphere,” he said. “She’s the best at what she does for a reason. It’s because she’s so articulate and just very dialed into every single thing that she does. And that’s the beauty of it.”

“I’d be silly if I ever tried to take anything from what she does, other than just enjoy the people that show up,” he continued. “I think that’s one thing I could probably take away: She really relates to the people she’s performing in front of, and so I’ll take that.”

Lady Gaga’s Harley Quinn Speaks!: Listen to the First Taste of Singer’s Character in ‘Joker: Folie à Deux’

In a pic post entitled “The world is a stage” — a tease for the first official trailer due out on April 9 — you hear Gaga’s Quinn whisper, “You’re Joker… you can do anything you want,” over trilling, ominous piano as the screen flashes images of Phoenix’s terrifying clown getting a shave, standing in a rainstorm, locked in a prison and dancing with Quinn.

Gaga will suit up as Quinn in the sequel to director Todd Phillips’ billion-dollar 2019’s global hit Joker, which is due out on October 4. Variety recently reported that the eagerly anticipated film leans heavily towards being “mostly a jukebox musical” that integrates at least 15 reinterpretations of “very well-known songs” and could contain one or two original soundtrack songs as well.

Trending on Billboard

Among the unnamed classics that are said to appear in the film are the 1953 song “That’s Entertainment,” a showstopper tune often associated with Judy Garland. And though music will reportedly play a major part in the film, Variety noted that Joker 2 is expected to “break the mold of traditional musicals.” No plot details have leaked yet about the movie, but it has been described as a drama with elements that take place around the notorious Arkham Asylum.

EW also noted that while previous Quinns have leaned into the character’s Brooklyn accent — including Arleen Sorkin, the voice actress who originated the role in Batman: The Animated Series, and Margot Robbie in the DC Extended Universe’s live-action films — Manhattan native Gaga’s take on Quinn appears to be accentless.

In addition to Gaga and Phoenix, the film stars Zazie Beetz (Atlanta), Catherine Keener (Incredibles 2) and Brendan Gleeson (The Banshees of Inisherin). Variety also reported on Wednesday (April 3) that the film has been rated R for “some strong violence, language throughout, some sexuality and brief full nudity”; the previous film was also rated R for “strong bloody violence, disturbing behavior, language and brief sexual images.”

Kenny Chesney’s ‘Born’ Begins as His 22nd Top 10 on Top Country Albums Chart

Kenny Chesney banks his 22nd top 10 on Billboard’s Top Country Albums chart as Born opens at No. 5 on the survey dated April 6.

In the week ending March 28, the set, released March 22, earned 27,000 equivalent album units in the U.S., according to Luminate. With 18,000 sold, the LP also starts at No. 1 on Billboard’s all-genre Top Albums Sales chart, where it’s Chesney’s 12th leader.

On the all-genre Billboard 200, Born enters at No. 20, marking the Tennessee native’s 18th top 20 title.

Chesney co-produced the 15-song album with longtime collaborator Buddy Cannon.

Born follows Chesney’s Here and Now, which arrived as his 17th No. 1 on Top Country Albums in May 2020. He’s tied with Garth Brooks for the third-most leaders on the 1964-launched tally. George Strait has notched a record 27 No. 1s, followed by Willie Nelson with 18.

Meanwhile, Born lead single “Take Her Home” bounds 32-19 for a new high on the streaming-, airplay- and sales-based Hot Country Songs chart, up 99% to 2.6 million official U.S. streams. On Country Airplay, it lifts 13-12 (16.8 million in audience, up 8%).

New Top 10s

Chayce Beckham’s debut Hot Country Songs entry, “23,” hops 12-8 with 6.4 million streams (up 2%). The 2021 American Idol winner also scores his first Country Airplay leader with the song (6-1; 28.2 million, up 22%). It’s the latter list’s first No. 1 solely written by the act that recorded it since Taylor Swift’s “Ours” in 2012.

Plus, Parker McCollum earns his fourth Hot Country Songs top 10 as “Burn It Down” climbs 11-10. The track, which the singer-songwriter from Conroe, Texas, co-authored, drew 6.3 million streams and sold 1,000. On Country Airplay, it bumps 7-6 for a new best (23.5 million, up 2%).
