Jerry Seinfeld Says “Extreme Left & P.C. Crap” Spoiled Comedy, Xitter Differs

Jerry Seinfeld claimed that comedy today is ruined in part by “extreme left & P.C. crap” in an interview, which has earned him serious backlash from those online.
Veteran comedian Jerry Seinfeld shared some thoughts about the state of comedy on television today that has sparked a hefty debate. Seinfeld sat down with journalist David Remnick for the New Yorker Radio Hour podcast to promote a Netflix movie about the origin of Pop-Tarts and was asked by Remnick about how he handles dealing with serious issues going on in the world. “Nothing really affects comedy. People always need it. They need it so badly and they don’t get it,” Seinfeld began.

“It used to be you would go home at the end of the day, most people would go, ‘Oh, Cheers is on,” he continued. “‘Oh, M.A.S.H. is on, oh, Mary Tyler Moore is on. All in the Family is on.’ You just expected, there’ll be some funny stuff we can watch on TV tonight. Well, guess what? Where is it? This is the result of the extreme left and P.C. crap and people worrying so much about offending other people. When you write a script and it goes into four or five different hands, committees, groups — ‘Here’s our thought about this joke’ — well, that’s the end of your comedy.”

Remnick asked the 70-year-old if he ever “had that experience”. Seinfeld simply replied, “Um, no.” When Remnick asked him about Seinfeld co-creator Larry David and the conclusion of his acclaimed HBO comedy series Curb Your Enthusiasm,
the comic replied: “Larry was grandfathered in. He’s old enough so that — ‘I don’t have to observe those rules, because I started before you made those rules.’”

Seinfeld received some support from far-right figures such as Turning Point USA leader Benny Johnson and Dinesh D’Souza after the interview, The comments also earned Seinfeld a heavy amount of backlash online. “Jerry Seinfeld whining that there are no good sitcoms because of wokeness when his writing partner just ended one of the funniest sitcoms of all time which is loved by leftists,” wrote one user in a post on X, formerly Twitter who quoted platform owner Elon Musk’s post of a Seinfeld routine with the caption, “Make comedy great again!”

Kendrick Lamar’s 12 Best Drake Diss Lyrics From ‘Euphoria’

17 days after Drake’s “Push Ups” diss track leaked, Kendrick Lamar rose from the ashes to unleash “Euphoria.”

“Euphoria” — also the title, of course, of the hit HBO show where Drake serves as an executive producer — hit K. Dot’s YouTube channel early Tuesday (April 30) to send the rap world into a frenzy.

Lamar pulled no punches as he attempted to shred the 6 God. He kicks off the track with more of a spoken-word flow before turning the heat up over Cardo production to flame Drake throughout the six-minute-plus marathon.

The Drake and Kendrick war has been years-in-the-making. Their feud dates back to Lamar’s nuclear “Control” verse in 2013 and subliminally dissing Drake at the BET Hip-Hop Awards during his cypher later that same year.

Drake and J. Cole’s “First Person Shooter” inspired Kendrick Lamar to take aim at the Big As the What? Tour running mates in March when he dropped an atomic bomb with his assist on Future and Metro Boomin’s “Like That.” The We Don’t Trust You anthem topped the Hot 100 for three consecutive weeks.

J. Cole jabbed at Kendrick on his Might Delete Later diss “7 Minute Drill,” but ended up apologizing and bowing out of the battle days later while speaking to the crowd at his Dreamville Fest.

Cole’s decision cleared the way for Kendrick Lamar and Drake to finally face off. In the days between “Push Ups” and “Euphoria,” Drizzy has continued to taunt K. Dot with the release of his 2Pac and Snoop Dogg “Taylor Made” freestyle and rocking Compton Community College merch. However, Drake ended up removing the AI-assisted freestyle from social media last week, after Shakur’s estate issued a cease-and-desist letter demanding Drizzy take the song down within 24 hours.

The ball now bounces back to Drake’s court inside his Toronto mansion. Check out the best bars from “Euphoria” knocking Drake about his biracial identity, his record deal, the Pusha T feud, fatherhood and more.

Barbra Streisand Clarifies Ozempic IG Comment to Melissa McCarthy: ‘I Just Wanted to Pay Her a Compliment’

Barbra Streisand is explaining her thought process after sharing a since-deleted Instagram comment asking Melissa McCarthy if she’s on Ozempic.

It all started when McCarthy posted two snaps on IG on Monday (April 29) of herself attending the Center Theatre Group gala with Hairspray director Adam Shankman. “Pastels only to honor the incredible @matthewbourne13 at the @ctgla gala last night with this fella @adamshankman !!” she wrote in the caption. “Thiiiiis much closer to my dream of dancing on stage ???.”

“Give him my regards did you take Ozempic?” Streisand commented, eagle eyed fans noticed and theorized that the EGOT winner must have accidentally thought she was sending a direct message instead of a public comment. Ozempic is a diabetes and anti-obesity medication that has risen in popularity among influencers and celebrities in recent months.

Streisand soon deleted the comment, and took to her X profile to offer an explanation. “OMG – I went on Instagram to see the photos we’d posted of the beautiful flowers I’d received for my birthday,” she wrote. “Below them was a photo of my friend Melissa McCarthy who I sang with on my Encore album. She looked fantastic! I just wanted to pay her a compliment. I forgot the world is reading!”

North West Steals the Show in Ye & Ty Dolla $ign’s ‘Talking’ Video: Watch

If Ye is to be believed, Vultures 2, the follow-up to the Billboard 200-topping album Vultures 1, is set to drop on Friday, May 3. But in the event the album does not pop up on streamers at the end of this week, Ye, formerly known as Kanye West, and Ty have delivered a video for Vultures 1‘s third single, “Talking,” to keep fans satiated.

Hewing closely to the muted black and grey tones developed for the group’s overall aesthetic, the video looks like the other visuals the duo have delivered so far with one big (or small) exception: North West plays a starring role. Not only does Ye’s eldest daughter make a show-stealing appearance, she’s credited as the video’s writer and director. Aus Taylor, who has worked with Ye in the past and photographed the album covers for Vultures 1 & 2, is credited as co-director.

Trending on Billboard

The video follows North as she performs her fan-favorite verse in various locations: A basketball court, a boxing ring, in a field standing next to a vulture (because, of course), hanging out of the roof of a drop top sports car, and at dinning table with friends. Then, the beat changes and Ty takes over, singing the latter part of the song which has been dubbed “Once Again.” The video fades out with Ye standing on a mountaintop as the clouds roll in and a vulture flies over him.

Released on February 10 after multiple delays, Vultures 1 managed to top the Billboard 200 despite controversy surrounding its distribution. On February 15, FUGA, the company that originally distributed the album, released a statement saying it was working on having the album removed from streaming services because its release violated its terms of service. The album was eventually re-released via Label Engine and birthed the No. 1 Hot 100 single “Carnival” featuring Rich the Kidd and Playboi Carti.

Bad Bunny Hops to the Top of March Boxscore Report With Almost $65 Million

Bad Bunny logs his fifth month at No. 1, after topping the chart four times in 2022 — twice as part of the El Ultimo Tour Del Mundo in March and April, and then in August and September during World’s Hottest Tour.

Combined, those treks nabbed him the No. 1 spot on 2022’s year-end ranking, making him the first artist to primarily perform in any language other than English to crown the annual survey. The only other primarily-Spanish-singing act to lead the monthly chart is RBD, which topped the November 2023 list.

Trending on Billboard

Bad Bunny pulls out of a tie with Beyoncé and the Trans-Siberian Orchestra to have the second-most monthly wins, trailing only Elton John with seven.

Bad Bunny’s biggest stops during March were in Los Angeles and Chicago. Three nights in each city score him Nos. 2-3 on Top Boxscores, with $20.2 million at the former’s Crypto.com Arena on March 13-15, and $13.4 million at the latter’s United Center on March 28-30. All of his shows earned more than $3 million.

The Most Wanted Tour began on Feb. 21 in Salt Lake City. The first handful of shows secured a No. 10 rank on February’s tally with $19.5 million in the bank. All told, the trek has earned $84.2 million and sold 282,000 tickets so far, with 30 dates left to report through two hometown shows on June 7-8 at San Juan’s Coliseo de Puerto Rico. At his current pace of more than $4 million per show, the tour is likely to sail across the $200 million threshold.

Zach Bryan follows closely behind at No. 2, with $62.3 million and 313,000 tickets, falling just 4% short of Bad Bunny’s winning gross.

Bryan is in the middle of The Quittin Time Tour, which launched on March 5 and managed 18 shows before the end of March. Its’ so-far total of $62 million is already far beyond the $43.9 million he earned on 2023’s 32-date Burn Burn Burn Tour. In fact, it only took 13 shows to pass that mark, representing a 150% increase in per-show earnings since just last year.

More specifically, last year Bryan played two shows in New York at Queens’ Forest Hills Stadium. For the Quittin Time Tour, he expanded to six, split between Brooklyn’s Barclays Center, Belmont Park’s UBS Arena and Newark, N.J.’s Prudential Center. He didn’t visit Chicago in 2022 or 2023 but kicked off this year’s run with three sold-out shows at the United Center, generating $12.6 million in ticket sales for No. 5 on Top Boxscores.

Bryan has nearly 50 more shows on the books in 2024, one-third of which bring him to football stadiums. Already 50% beyond his 2023 grosses, he’s likely to join Bad Bunny in the $200 million club by year’s end.

Women dominate much of March’s top 10, with P!nk and Madonna at Nos. 3 and 4. The former banked $55.1 million and sold 543,000 tickets from 11 shows, scoring the month’s highest attendance count. The latter added $37.9 million to The Celebration Tour, which crossed $200 million in early April. The queen of pop’s tour wrapped last week (April 26 – except for one free show on May 4 in Brazil) with final numbers expected to be reported soon.

Karol G and Nicki Minaj represent Latin and hip-hop at Nos. 5 and 6, respectively. For Karol G, it’s a continuation of a winning streak that began with the kick-off of the Manana Sera Bonito tour last August. For Minaj, it’s her first monthly Boxscore appearance, with the first batch of shows on the Pink Friday 2 World Tour bringing in $26.9 million.

Three festivals appear on Top Boxscores, topped off by Pa’l Norte in Monterrey, Mexico at No. 1. The weekend-long festival grossed $26.2 million on March 29-31, nearly tripling its 2022 revenue of $9.3 million. At No. 6 is Esterio Picnic with $11.8 million. Both events are promoted by OCESA, helping the Mexican juggernaut rank at No. 3 on Top Promoters.

Across the Pacific Ocean, Pitch Music & Arts Festival represents for Melbourne, Australia, at No. 16 with $8.4 million and 35,900 tickets sold between March 8-12. Otherwise, Oceania is bolstered by several appearances by P!nk, including top 10s for shows in Melbourne and Perth.

Asia sneaks onto the Boxscores ranking, with Ed Sheeran and SEVENTEEN rounding out the chart at Nos. 29 and 30. Both hover around $6 million, with Sheeran in Manilla, Philippines and SEVENTEEN in Incheon, South Korea.

Alyona Alyona & Jerry Heil Want People ‘To Feel Empathy for Ukraine’ With Their Eurovision 2024 Song

More than two years after Russia invaded Ukraine, the latter nation will once again send one of their best recording acts to the Eurovision Song Contest to represent their beleaguered nation on the world stage. Alyona Alyona and Jerry Heil will sing “Teresa & Maria,” a song about the strength, courage and resilience of Ukrainian women at the 68th pan-European competition, which will be held on May 11 in Malmö, Sweden.

Alyona Alyona (real name: Aliona Olehivna Savranenko) and Jerry Heil (real name: Yana Oleksandrivna Shemaieva) were both solo artists before they became a duo. “We knew each other before creating music in common because our market is smaller than America,” Heil explains. “So every artist knows each other, but we started being productive when the big invasion started. I was a refugee [in Sweden at first] and Alyona was volunteering in Ukraine for several months. I kept asking her music producer, ‘Where’s Alyona? Is she coming? Why is she putting herself in danger?” Finally, she came to Europe to generate some donations with concerts. We started doing that together and working on an album which included eight songs. People started texting us, ‘Go to Eurovision.’ At first we said, ‘Ha-ha, of course,’ and here we are.”

“People in Ukraine wanted this,” says Alyona. “So we decided to unite and remind European audiences how united they were in the beginning over the big invasion.” Heil adds, “It’s really important for us because we want people to know that there’s not only war going on in Ukraine. We want you to feel empathy for Ukraine, to feel that we are equal, to feel that we are the same people as you are and to know our culture and to listen to our music. If you don’t know what the music of a country sounds like, you don’t know the face of the nation. You don’t feel anything for them, and we want you to feel something for us because our culture goes so deep in history, and it can bring so many new things to the world. We want you to see it and hear it. And our song has a mission.

Trending on Billboard

“We talk about people who live maybe not perfect lives and make some mistakes, but in the end, they make kindness. If you unite kindness and love, you can win the war. You can change the world. You can leave something for the children and the children of the children. It’s important,” Alyona says.

Of their Eurovision entry, “Teresa and Maria,” Heil explains that “[Ukrainian] women hold on their shoulders such a heavy world and they still manage to be divas. But we are all born as human beings, so we make mistakes, but in the end, you are defined by your actions.”

In addition to performing at Eurovision, Heil and Alyona have another mission – to raise money for the Velykokostromska School; In July 2023, a Russian missile destroyed its gymnasium and forced closure of the school. Through the government foundation United24, Alyona and Heil have a goal of raising 10 million hryvnia (over $250,000) to rebuild the facility and allow 250 children to return to school.

“A lot of schools were destroyed, but we are working with this particular one,” says Heil. “It was historical and very beautiful,” adds Alyona, “but they destroyed more than 450 schools and education buildings.” “You have to rebuild the past to build the future,” says Heil. Alyona and Heil are offering a prize to one lucky donor. “One person will win a Zoom meeting with us and we can talk with you, we can even sing for you, whatever you want us to do, but something normal!” Heil explains. “You can make a small donation, like $10,” adds Alyona.

Meanwhile, the two women are promoting their song and appearance at Eurovision while missiles are hitting targets in Ukraine. “The war is a part of our song,” says Heil. “We cannot separate that. The song was created under attack and under alarm. Sometimes we feel like the war is nothing because it has become a part of our lives. But subconsciously we’re always stressed. And leaving the country feels more stressful than coming back here.”

If Alyona and Heil are triumphant in Malmö, this will be Ukraine’s fourth Eurovision victory. In 2004, Ruslana brought the trophy home for the first time with “Wild Dances.” Jamala won in 2016 with “1944,” a song about the deportation of Crimean Tatars by the Soviet Union. And in 2022, just months after Russia invaded Ukraine, the Kalush Orchestra won with “Stefania,” a song about a Ukrainian mother that became a war anthem.

Additionally, if Alyona and Heil do win, music director Tanu Muino, born in Odesa, Ukraine, will have played a part. Having previously worked on videos for Harry Styles (“As It Was”) and Lil Nas X (“Montero (Call Me By Your Name)”), Muino is directing the duo’s stage performance.

“You can imagine what we felt when we realized we were going to work with her,” says Heil. “She is immensely talented and what she does is so significant for us because she’s not only a talented Ukrainian who started working in Hollywood, but she did something which no one in the music industry did before her and we feel so proud of her.” “She’s a part of our culture,” adds Alyona. “So it’s a union of Ukrainian divas.”

The grand final of the 2024 Eurovision Song Contest will livestream in the U.S. on Peacock at 3 p.m. ET on May 11.

Drake’s ‘Heart’ Beats His Record for Biggest Jump to No. 1 on Mainstream R&B/Hip-Hop Airplay Chart

Drake rockets to No. 1 on Billboard’s Mainstream R&B/Hip-Hop Airplay chart (dated May 4) with “You Broke My Heart,” which flies from No. 8. The single reaches the chart’s summit after a 20% surge in weekly plays that made it the most-played song on U.S. monitored mainstream R&B/hip-hop radio stations in the tracking week of April 19 – 25, according to Luminate. The song, from the Scary Hours deluxe edition of his For All the Dogs album, reaches No. 1 in its 19th week on the chart – Drake’s longest climb to the top.

The new leader gives Drake a record-extending 46th No. 1 on Mainstream R&B/Hip-Hop Airplay. He remains far and away the all-time champ – Lil Wayne ranks a distant second, with 20 No. 1s. Here’s a recap of the acts with the most No. 1s on Mainstream R&B/Hip-Hop Airplay since the chart launched in 1993:

Trending on Billboard

46, Drake
20, Lil Wayne
19, Chris Brown
17, Usher
13, Beyoncé

As “You Broke My Heart” vaults seven spots to reach the summit, it scores the biggest jump to No. 1 in more than seven years, since Rae Sremmurd’s “Black Beatles,” featuring Gucci Mane, also sprang 8-1 on the chart dated Dec. 3, 2016. In total, “You Broke My Heart” is the sixth of 440 champs on Mainstream R&B/Hip-Hop Airplay to jump from No. 8 or lower directly to No. 1.

Position Change, Song Title, Artist, Date Reached No. 1
31-1, “Before You Walk Out of My Life,” Monica, Jan. 13, 1996
19-1, “Anniversary,” Tony Toni Tone, Oct. 9, 1993
9-1, “No Diggity,” BLACKstreet featuring Dr. Dre, Sept. 14, 1996
8-1, “Bills Bills Bills,” Destiny’s Child, July 10, 1999
8-1, “Black Beatles,” Rae Sremmurd featuring Gucci Mane, Dec. 3, 2016
8-1, “You Broke My Heart,” Drake, May 4, 2024

Despite Drake’s virtually automatic hitmaking status on Mainstream R&B/Hip-Hop Airplay, where about one-third of the superstar’s 137 appearances have reached No. 1 and another 45 have finished in the top 10, “You Broke My Heart” endured the longest wait to No. 1 among his entire chart-topping collection. The single arrives at the top in its 19th week on the list, four weeks longer than his previous-slowest, “All Me,” featuring 2 Chainz and Big Sean, which wrapped a 15-week journey in January 2014. (Drake’s slow-but-steady climb to No. 1 with “You Broke My Heart” makes it the 13th song to take at least 19 weeks to reach No. 1. The longest trek? Tems’ “Free Mind,” which needed 33 weeks to enter the penthouse in 2022.)

The prolonged rise, however, partly traces to multiple Drake singles active at the format simultaneously. When “You Broke My Heart” debuted on the chart in December, it arrived amid two buzzing Drake singles: “Rich Baby Daddy,” featuring Sexyy Red and SZA, a track that had just peaked at No. 2 a couple weeks earlier and was gliding in the top five, and “First Person Shooter,” his Billboard Hot 100-topping collaboration with J. Cole, which was climbing inside the top 20. While both songs would be on the decline by February, a new contender entered the mix: Drake joined 4batz for a remix of the latter’s viral “act II: date @ 8,” with new promo efforts lifting the rising star’s breakthrough single. On the newest Mainstream R&B/Hip-Hop Airplay chart, where “You Broke My Heart,” reaches No. 1, “act ii: date @ 8” advances 6-4 with an 8% weekly play increase.

Elsewhere, the gains in plays help “You Broke My Heart” push 13-9 on the R&B/Hip-Hop Airplay chart, which ranks songs by combined audience totals from adult R&B and mainstream R&B/hip-hop stations. There, the track improved to 9.7 million in audience for the week of April 19 – 25, up 17% from the previous period.
