Jon Loba From Broken Bow Records Accepts Indie Label of the Year | Billboard Indie Power Players 2024

Jon Loba from Broken Bow Records accepts Indie Label of the Year at Billboard’s Indie Power Players 2024 event.

Hannah Karp
Please welcome the man that’s been steering Broken Bow for over two decades and who was just named president of BMG frontline recordings business, Jon Loba.

Jon Loba
I will keep it short because I know there’s drinking to do, and people are tired of hearing you talk. Number one, Billboard, thank you for this event, for recognizing indies, but even more than that, for being part of the storytelling process. You are so much a part of our story, for helping tell that and those stories of our artists. We value that. We will never forget that, and we’re going to do more of that. Thank you also to BMG, Thomas Coatesfeld, Joe Gillen and our entire team for the trust you’ve placed in us to just go make great music and promote great music, as well as our Nashville team led by Joe Jamie Harr, I could not do what I do, nor take on the extra responsibility I have taken on without her and our wonderful team. Mostly, thank you to our artists who include our first real global star, Blanco Brown, who’s here tonight, for putting your trust in us. We do not take that lightly. We wake up every morning and fall asleep every night thinking about you, your career, your art, your story, and how we can tell that in a more effective fashion. Last thing I’m going to say is, you know, as we built the Broken Bow music group and everybody wanted to give us an award for this indie accolade or that indie accolade, I would always tell the staff, ‘Stop. We’re not measuring ourselves against indies. We are measuring ourselves against the majors.’ We want to play in the big leagues. Having said all that, in today’s day and age, I think I’m going to revise that a bit, because the majors, as we all know, have potentially become investment banks, have become big analytical houses, the heart and the soul of music, the future of music, the icons in music, will not live in some derivative form; they will live in the indies. Those of you who are waking up every morning and falling asleep every night to champion art that maybe right now doesn’t fit in some analytic equation, isn’t hitting a certain algorithm, but given the chance will, so I’m going to start celebrating the indies much more than we did. Thank you Billboard and thank all of you.

Bebe Rexha Slams ‘Ungrateful Loser’ G-Eazy, Calls ‘Me, Myself & I’ His ‘Only Real Hit’ in Heated Post

Consider the bridge between Bebe Rexha and G-Eazy burned.

Nine years after scoring a top 10 smash together with “Me, Myself & I,” the pop singer took to Instagram Stories on Thursday (June 13) to call out her collaborator, alleging he treated her poorly after the release of their duet in 2015.

“You’re lucky people are liking you again,” Rexha wrote, tagging G-Eazy. “‘Cause I could go in on all the sh–ty things you’ve done and how you treated me after giving you your only real hit.”

The “Meant to Be” musician’s comments came in response to a member of her team asking via text message if she had any interest in shooting social media content with the rapper, a screenshot of which Rexha also posted. “You have my number,” she added. “Why don’t you text me and ask me yourself you stuck up ungrateful loser.”

“Btw the answer is no,” the vocalist concluded. “Hope you good.”

Billboard has reached out to reps for Rexha and G-Eazy for comment.

It’s probably safe to say the two musicians won’t be working together again any time soon for a follow-up to “Me, Myself & I,” which debuted on the Billboard Hot 100 in November 2015 before peaking at No. 7 the following March. In 2017, they teamed up again for “F.F.F.” on Rexha’s EP All Your Fault Pt. 1, which reached No. 51 on the Billboard 200.

The post comes a week after G-Eazy released his new single “Anxiety.” Rexha dropped her latest track “Chase It” at the end of May, days before making headlines for kicking out a concertgoer at her show in Wisconsin for apparently attempting to throw something at her.

“Out, out,” she says in a clip from the concert, which took place one year after Rexha sustained a serious facial injury due to a different fan throwing his phone at her during another show. “Or, if you wanna hit me in the face, I had to press charges for the other guy — I’d love to become richer.”

Brent Faiyaz Presents Executive of the Year to Ty Baisden | Billboard Indie Power Players 2024

R&B star Brent Fayiaz presents his manager Ty Baisden with the Executive of the Year award at Billboard’s Indie Power Players 2024 event.

Hannah Karp
Ladies and gentlemen, please welcome the incredible Brent Faiyaz.

Brent Faiyaz
What’s up with y’all? Let me, uh, Let me first off thank the staff and everyone at Billboard for allowing me to grace that cover. I really appreciate y’all, but make some noise for being in this room. You know, everybody here, make some noise for yourself for being here. I didn’t prepare no speech … and, you know, we independent, so we roll with the punches and sh– like that. But I’m gonna just say one thing. It’s one thing you feel me for people to love what you do and appreciate your art and what you put out, and it’s another to be acknowledged amongst your peers, and that’s what this is right here. So let me, let me acknowledge my brother, Ty Baisden for Executive of the Year.

Ty Baisden
Just like my brother, I did not prepare a speech, but I do want to thank first God. I want to thank my mom, my family, culture. I want to thank Malana at STEM. I want to thank Troy at Venice and the entire Billboard team for really taking the time out and honor us in a really great way and, yeah, that’s pretty much it, man, stay independent.

Travis Kelce Teases He’s Getting a Ring (But Not That Ring) Amid Taylor Swift Engagement Rumors

Travis Kelce is about to pick up a new piece of bling, but it’s not an engagement ring for Taylor Swift… yet.

In a clever teaser posted by the Kansas City Chiefs on Thursday (June 13), the tight end holds up three of his fingers and points to one of his knuckles with a knowing smile. “TONIGHT,” reads a message at the end alongside a diamond-ring emoji.

The clip served to hype up the team’s ring ceremony, where Kelce will be presented with his third Super Bowl band alongside his teammates. It came at a sensitive time, however, for some Swifties who are convinced that a proposal is imminent for the offensive lineman and pop star, whose relationship has sparked engagement rumors on and off for months.

“as a swiftie please understand the internal panic we are having rn,” one fan commented on the post.

“lol the social media manager knows what they were doing with this and i am absolutely obsessed,” wrote another person, while a third jokingly quoted Swift’s “Who’s Afraid of Little Old Me?”: “so tell me everything is not about me… BUT WHAT IF IT IS??????”

As Kelce prepares to get his latest Super Bowl ring, Swift is currently in Liverpool for her latest series of Eras Tour shows on the trek’s European leg. Thursday will mark her 100th performance on the 21-month run, which will officially end in December.

When she isn’t on the road, however, she and Kelce enjoy cooking together in the kitchen — as revealed by the football player in a recent press conference at the Chiefs’ minicamp. “I thoroughly enjoy cooking with her,” he told a reporter when asked about his favorite recipes to make with the superstar. “It’s something I’d rather keep personal.”

“Taylor makes a great pop-tart and cinnamon roll,” he added later.

Laneige has built a cult-following in the K-beauty space, even landing celebrity approval from Anyone But You‘s Sydney Sweeney, who is not only the ambassador for the beauty brand, but has been known to sport Laneige on the red carpet (and even her SNL promo from February). Their most-beloved product that’s left fans clamoring to collect every new flavor is the Laneige Lip Sleeping Mask — and the brand just dropped a new limited-edition watermelon version for summer.

The last exclusive flavor the K-beauty brand dropped was cotton candy and that quickly sold-out, which means the watermelon one most likely won’t stay on shelves for long. And the stats only further prove it, as the brand claims one lip treatment is sold every two seconds, according to their 2023 data.

ShopBillboard got to test out the limited-edition flavor for ourselves and it not only has an intoxicating watermelon Jolly Rancher-like scent, but provides almost instant hydration once applied. A little goes a long way too, which means one tub will last you awhile.

Keep reading to shop the watermelon lip mask below.

Laneige Watermelon Lip Sleeping Mask

Consider this sleeping lip mask the embodiment of summer in a tub as it comes with an adorable green and red packaging paired with a sweet scent. You can use it before bed to help deliver moisture all night long, so you can wake up with soft and hydrated lips rather than a cracked and chapped mouth. It’s also versatile enough to use as a daily lip balm and is compact enough to throw in your purse or backpack.

The formula uses natural ingredients too like shea butter, vitamin C and coconut oil to help provide longtime moisture while also creating a barrier to protect your lips from pollutants.

More than 19,000 shoppers have left reviews on Sephora, with most calling it a “holy grail” of lip products for its nourishing ingredients. One person even gushed that, “This is the best lip mask ever! The watermelon scent smells so good and sweet! It’s so smooth on the lips and very hydrating! The applicator is easy to use too. It’s definitely worth the buy and perfect for summer!”

A2IM President/CEO Richard James Burgess to Step Down in 2026

Dr. Richard James Burgess will step down as president/CEO of The American Association of Independent Music (A2IM) at the beginning of 2026, he announced at the annual general meeting that closed out A2IM Indie Week on Thursday (June 13). Upon his exit, he will have led the organization for 10 years.

The A2IM board of directors has initiated a search for Burgess’ successor.

“As A2IM approaches its 20th anniversary in 2025, I am filled with immense pride for our collective achievements and honored to have been the longest-serving head of A2IM to date,” said Burgess. “Leading this exceptional organization has been an extraordinary experience. I am profoundly grateful for the support and dedication of our board members, the invaluable work of our founding members and prior presidents who set up the organization to succeed, and the unwavering commitment of our many members. Our success is a testament to the hard work and passion of the many team members I’ve had the pleasure to work alongside.

“Thank you for entrusting me with the well-being of your organization for all these years. I am confident that the future holds great promise for our independent community, and I look forward to celebrating our continued growth and accomplishments a decade from now.”

On the advocacy front, he also hired a Washington, D.C.-based lobbying firm, collaborated with other trade associations on policy and initiatives, and personally participated in a plethora of other advocacy efforts. Also under his watch, A2IM launched initiatives to support underrepresented communities and gender-balanced and diversified its staff, board and events team.

Elsewhere, Burgess introduced a healthcare plan offering for A2IM member companies, their employees, contractors and artists; grew the annual A2IM Indie Week gathering from a single-room event to a leading international conference; and turned the A2IM Libera Awards into a premier gala dinner honoring independent labels and the music they released, including live performances.

A2IM was founded in 2005 as a response to the digital disruption of the music industry, serving as a vehicle to address the concerns of the wide-ranging independent sector.

Candace Owens Checks Piers Morgan On Not Calling Israel-Hamas War Genocide

Conservative Political Action Conference CPAC

As Rasheed Wallace reportedly said, even the sun shines on a dog’s ass twice a day and Candace Owens is a perfect example of that phrase. Candace Owens was a recent guest on the Piers Morgan Uncensored show and in their discussion, the conservative pundit checked the host on the nature of the Israel-Hamas and the media’s reluctance to refer to the happenings as genocide.

Candace Owens, 35, sat down with Piers Morgan, 59, and the tense discussion surrounding the Isreal-Hamas war turned towards Owens making note of the fact that journalists are seemingly fearful of critiquing Israel’s actions. At one point, Owens included Morgan in that group.

“You too, Piers, seem a little fearful to critique Isreal and coming off as trying to be a little understanding of everything,” Owens said. Morgan, perhaps anticipating this, dodged the assertion. For her part, Owens clearly articulated what the word genocide means and did manage to get Morgan to throw a very soft jab at Israel’s PM, Benjamin Netanyahu.

The 90-minute conversation between Morgan and Owens touched on her leaving The Daily Wire, her political positions, her connection with Ye FKA Kanye West, the conflict between Ukraine and Russia, and much more.

Check out the clip in question below and keep scrolling to see reactions to the Israel-Hamas segment. Also, let’s be clear, we’re not on her side about much of anything. On this point, however, she called it straight and that’s all we’re noting.

Austin Rivers Slams Hulu Series ‘Clipped’s Cast, Luke James Dunks On Him In Response

Austin Rivers Slams Hulu's 'Clipped' Casting Choices

Austin Rivers is not happy with Hulu’s original series Clipped or the casting choices for the roles of members of the Los Angeles Clippers during Donald Sterling’s tenure as owner.

In a recent episode of his The Offguard Podcast, former NBA player turned ESPN NBA analyst expressed his frustration with the actors chosen to play his NBA brethren in Clipped.

The Hulu series is based on the ESPN 30 For 30 podcast, The Sterling Affairs, which focuses on the turmoil following the Clippers’ former owner being recorded by his mistress saying derogatory racial remarks.

In a clip shared on Instgram, Rivers goes ham on the actor cast to play Golden State Warriors sharpshooter Stephen Curry: “That is Stephen Santiago. That’s, like, the third baseman for the Padres. Who the hell is that guy?”

The actor who plays Blake Griffin in the series also caught a vicious stray from Rivers. “This is really bad. The guy’s hairline’s receding already, and he looks just nothing like Blake.”

P-Valley star J. Alphonse Nicholson’s portrayal of the “point god,” Chris Paul, did not win over Rivers either. “That is my local A/C man, Frederick. Who is this? Who the hell is that?”

Damn, that’s how you doing, the man who plays Lil Murda to perfection?

Austin Rivers Spares Laurence Fishburne

Sheldon Bailey, who plays DeAndre Jordan in the series, was not spared from Rivers’s ire either. “There’s no effort in this. That looks nothing like DJ.”

One person who did not catch that much flack for his performance in the show, outside of his body weight, was Laurence Fishburne. He happens to be portraying Austin Rivers’s dad, Doc Rivers, who was the Clippers head coach during the drama with Donald Sterling.

“Laurence Fishburne is a legend, and he’s a great actor,” Rivers said. “The body of my father is just a little bit different. I’m not saying he’s 100% in shape, but he’s built a little different than Laurence Fishburne. We could’ve done a little AI or something there.”

Fishburne spoke about his portrayal of Doc Rivers on a recent episode of the Dan Patrick Show revealing he had no idea who Rivers was before he got the role.

Luke James Dunks On Austin Rivers

One person who was not here for Austin Rivers’ hate was singer/actor Luke James, who had time for the former pro hooper.

“The series is great. casting is solid. u niggas should make a series. cast all the giant none acting ass niggas in it. see how it fairs out. i’m sure all these folks in agreement w/u will love it,” James wrote in the post’s comment section.

We can’t be mad at that.
