Ranking Ariana Grande’s Top 10 Songs | Billboard News

In honor of Ariana Grande’s 31st birthday today, we take you through her Billboard hits and rank them.

Tetris Kelly:

Happy Birthday to Ariana Grande. The pop star celebrates her 31st birthday today and Billboard is honoring her by ranking the Top 10 Ariana Grande songs.  Starting off at No. 10 with the ballad from her latest album ‘eternal sunshine’ “imperfect for you.” Ari told Zach that the song is her favorite from ‘eternal sunshine’ and was the last song she finished for the album.  “ghostin” is at No. 9 and definitely stands out as one of Ari’s most heartbreaking and features a sample from her late ex and dear friend, Mac Miller. Ariana said it was her hardest song to write for ‘Thank U, Next’ especially the second verse as she initially didn’t want to release it, but her then manager Scooter Braun convinced her to do it. No. 8 is a dance anthem collaboration that saw Ariana team up with another pop queen, Lady Gaga, it’s “Rain On Me.” Billboard ranked this song at No. 1 Best Song in 2020. At No. 7 is Ari’s live cover of an all time classic, “Somewhere Over The Rainbow” which she performed at her One Love Manchester concert. Ariana did another more recent cover of the song while she was filming ‘Wicked.’ No. 6 is one of Ariana’s biggest and well known hits, another collaboration, this time with EDM DJ Zedd, it’s “Break Free.”

SXSW Drops U.S. Army & Weapons Manufacturer Sponsorships Following Boycotts

SXSW will no longer engage in partnerships with the U.S. Army or weapons manufacturers, the event announced Wednesday (June 26).

“After careful consideration, we are revising our sponsorship model,” reads a statement posted to the SXSW website. “As a result, the U.S. Army, and companies who engage in weapons manufacturing, will not be sponsors of SXSW 2025.”

The development comes after more than 80 artists and panelists pulled out of the annual music and tech event in Austin, Texas this past March due to sponsorships by the U.S. Army and the North Carolina-based weapons manufacturer Collins Aerospace.

The boycotting artists included Irish band Kneecap, who wrote on X that pulling out of the event was “done in solidarity with the people of Palestine and to highlight the unacceptable deep links the festival has to weapons companies and the U.S. military who at this very moment are enabling a genocide and famine against a trapped population.”

Today’s news is an about-face for SXSW, which initially defended the sponsorships, releasing a statement during the March event that said organizers “fully respect the decision these artists made to exercise their right to free speech. The defense industry has historically been a proving ground for many of the systems we rely on today. These institutions are often leaders in emerging technologies, and we believe it’s better to understand how their approach will impact our lives. The Army’s sponsorship is part of our commitment to bring forward ideas that shape our world. In regard to Collins Aerospace, they participated this year as a sponsor of two SXSW Pitch categories, giving entrepreneurs visibility and funding for potentially game-changing work.”

Billboard’s parent company PMC is the largest shareholder of SXSW and its brands are official media partners of SXSW.

Of Hardstone Psycho’s 76,500-unit start, streaming activity contributed 57,000 units, a sum representing 75.98 million on-demand official streams of the set’s songs. Traditional album sales supplied 19,500 units, while track-equivalent album units comprise a negligible sum. Both the streaming sum and album-sales figures are new career bests for the Houston native. (One unit equals the following levels of consumption: one album sale, 10 individual tracks sold from an album, or 3,750 ad-supported or 1,250 paid/subscription on-demand official audio and video streams for a song on the album.)

Hardstone Psycho, issued on Cactus Jack/Atlantic Records, gives Don Toliver a first champ on Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums after the rapper and singer’s three prior releases each hit the top five, but couldn’t capture the top slot. His debut full-length, Heaven or Hell, peaked at No. 5, while sophomore effort Life of a Don reached a No. 2 best and his third LP, Love Sick, attained a No. 4 high.

Trending on Billboard

Elsewhere, Hardstone Psycho opens at No. 1 on the Top Rap Albums chart, where Don Toliver likewise bags his first leader, and at No. 3 on the all-genre Billboard 200.

The career-best start for Hardstone Psycho helps several of its tracks leap onto the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart. Current single, the prior-released “Attitude,” featuring R&B legend Charlie Wilson and rising rapper Cash Cobain, rallies 36-16 in its fourth week on the chart. In addition to nabbing a new peak, it wins the weekly Streaming Gainer prize for the largest increase in streams among the chart’s non-debuting titles. The collaboration rockets from 4.1 million U.S. streams in the past week to 8.7 million for this tracking period, a 110% surge.

Thanks to the top 20 showing, Wilson picks up his highest rank on Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs since “You Are” rested at No. 13 in 2011. Cash Cobain, too, seizes the highest result for his young career.

Nine Hardstone Psycho songs debut on the 50-position Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart. Beyond “Attitude,” another previously released single, “Bandit,” flies 35-21 in its 20th week on the list, in the vicinity of its No. 13 peak in February.

Here’s a full recap of Hardstone Psycho’s track placements on Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs:

No. 16, “Attitude,” featuring Charlie Wilson & Cash Cobain
No. 18, “Brother Stone,” featuring Kodak Black
No. 21, “Bandit”
No. 23, “Tore Up”
No. 28, “Ice Age,” featuring Travis Scott
No. 29, “Kryptonite”
No. 34, “Purple Rain,” featuring Future & Metro Boomin
No. 39, “Glock”
No. 42, “4×4”
No. 48, “New Drop”
No. 49, “Backstreets,” featuring Teezo Touchdown

Taylor Swift Vs Gracie Abrams for Billboard 200? Will Sabrina Qualify for the Grammys? | Billboard News

Will besties Taylor Swift and Gracie Abrams go head to head on the Billboard 200 next week? Does Sabrina Carpenter have the qualifications to be nominated for a Grammy? Keep watching to find out!

Tetris Kelly:

There are some battles brewing in the music biz. Who could take the top spot on the Billboard 200? And who even qualifies for the Best New Artist Grammy? Let’s break it down. Gracie Abrams sophomore album, ‘The Secret of Us,’ is expected to secure a solid streaming debut, but it’s going to come down to sales to see if she can best her bestie collaborator, Taylor Swift, and her nine week run with ‘The Tortured Poets Department.’ With Gracie’s vinyl variants and Taylor’s CD variants, it’s anybody’s game. As for the Best New Artist Grammy there are many musicians that fans are pulling for, but who even qualifies for the award? Sabrina Carpenter currently owns the top spot on the Billboard Hot 100. She’s never been nominated for a Grammy and she hasn’t been entered in the Best New Artist competition three times. She’s been entered twice, in 2017 and 2024. So she’s fair game. The same can’t be said for Tate McRae. While she’s had a stellar year with “Greedy” topping the Global 200 and Global 200 excluding the US, she was entered for best new artists the last three years so she won’t qualify. We’ll know all the Grammy nominations on November 8.

Shaq’s Album ‘You Can’t Stop the Reign’ Featuring Jay-Z & Nas’ First Collab to Hit Streaming

This is not a drill.

For those of us old enough to remember the golden days of file sharing, there was a song named “Analyze This” featuring Lord Tariq, Jay-Z, and Nas. File sharing applications like Limewire were hugely popular during the early 2000s, which also happened to be around the same time Jay and Nas were in the throws of their legendary beef, so some weren’t sure whether or not the song was real. It sounded stitched together, and there was also a version of the song with Shaq floating around.

Well, that’s because the original song “No Love Lost” was on O’Neal’s third album You Can’t Stop the Reign and it will finally be available on streaming services Friday, June 28. Andrew Barber of FakeShoreDrive broke the news on his X account earlier today.

Earlier this month, Barber also broke the news that Shaq’s collab with Biggie — the album’s title track — was set to hit DSPs, as well. That’s how on fire the Diesel was in 1996. Not only did he sign a seven-year, $120 million deal with the Lakers, he dropped a platinum rap album featuring the likes of the Notorious B.I.G., Jay-Z, Nas, and introduced rap group Lord Tariq and Peter Gunz to the world. The latter of which would have a massive hit with “Déjà Vu (Uptown Baby)” in 1997.

While Shaq and Lord Tariq do their thing, the real draw here are the former rivals.

Nas spits one of his best verses with the help of bars like, “I flip my loot twice a week on the most trifling streets/You got no right to eat, by the laws of life you keep.”

Jay finishes things off with a smooth 16 packed with memorable lines like, “Get wetted up by the sleeve that leaves the bezel out/You don’t like it? Sue me, I’ll settle out.”

During an appearance on Drink Champs, the legendary basketball player and entertainer addressed why the original version of the song never came out, saying, “People didn’t clear it, but I didn’t take it personal.”

Check out a version of the song that made onto a DJ Clue mixtape back in the day.

That’s history right there, you understand?

Killer Mike Won’t Face Charges From 2024 Grammys Arrest

Killer Mike will not be charged following his arrest in February at the 2024 Grammy Awards.

After coming out of the Grammys pre-telecast victorious with three awards — best rap album for MICHAEL and best rap song and best rap performance for “SCIENTISTS AND ENGINEERS” with André 3000, Future and Eryn Allen Kane — Killer Mike was arrested outside of Peacock Theater (where the pre-telecast was held before the main ceremony at Crypto.com Arena) due to an altercation between him and a security guard over his credentials. The rapper was initially booked for misdemeanor battery and was released without bail.

“There was a lot going and there was some confusion around which door my team and I should enter. We experienced an over-zealous security guard but my team and I have the upmost confidence that I will ultimately be cleared of all wrongdoing,” read part of a statement he issued shortly after his arrest.

TMZ reported on Wednesday (June 26) that the Los Angeles City Attorney’s Office said it would not be filing charges against the rapper (real name Michael Render). After completing his city attorney hearing, he agreed to do community service with a non-profit organization of his choice, according to TMZ.

“All of my heroes have been in handcuffs – Malcolm, Martin, Mandela, Medgar,” he said during a Feb. 12 appearance on The View, eight days following his arrest on Music’s Biggest Night. “I walked out with the same dignity and respect that I walked in with, and I would implore people to just take that from it.”

Pegasus 41 features full-length ReactX foam, which provides over 13 percent more “energy return” compared to the React foam used in the Pegasus 40, according to Nike. The eco-friendly upgrade cuts the carbon footprint of two midsoles by 43 percent, says Nike.

The shoe also features Nike’s Air Zoom units in the heel and forefront, and a mesh upper that’s lighter and more breathable than its predecessor.

Nike first released the Pegasus in 1982 and it sold over 300,000 pairs the following year. While the new styles have evolved away from the original waffle outsole and new foam design, the Pegasus remains a fan favorite.

Pegasus 41 has a 4.8-star rating at Nike.com and most of the customers love how comfortable they are for running and walking.

Nike is sponsoring several teams at the Summer Olympics while Snoop Dogg heads to Paris next month as a co-commentator for NBC.

The 2024 Summer Olympics will air live on NBC and stream on Peacock starting on July 26.

Deadmau5 Threatens to Remove His Music From Spotify Over Daniel Ek Comment: ‘F—ing Vultures’

In late May, Spotify CEO Daniel Ek made headlines when he tweeted, “Today, with the cost of creating content being close to zero, people can share an incredible amount of content.”

One person who took offense is deadmau5, who put up an Instagram post over the weekend offering feedback on Ek’s comment. “Incorrect,” the producer’s caption reads. “The cost of creating content was 25+ years of my life and much of those proceeds going to your company you complete f–king idiot.”

Trending on Billboard

The post garnered nearly 38,000 likes and many comments, with one person writing, “We hate Spotify so much,” to which the Canadian electronic producer responded by saying, “feel that, I’m about to pull my catalog from these f–king vultures, enough’s enough.”

As of publishing, the producer’s catalog is still available on Spotify, where he currently boasts nearly 5 million monthly listeners.

“I’ve been saying for a long time that we as the IP owners, the artists, the artist managers and the major record companies have allowed these multibillion-dollar companies to build platforms and companies with our art and our fans, and now we’re locked out,” deadmau5’s manager Dean Wilson tells Billboard in regards to royalty rates on DSPs like Spotify. “We can’t talk to our fans on the platform with our art that we’ve built.

“When you say that out loud, it’s insane that we keep allowing that to happen,” Wilson continues. “They’re our fans that we drive to platforms with our art, and unless we pay [the platforms]…you can’t get to your fans. Or you don’t even know if you’re getting to your fans. It’s like, if you spend this amount of money and move this needle on that, you could get to maybe this amount of people.

“Then how much data do we get back in return? The bare minimum they can give you. Ask me today, ‘How much am I getting paid per stream on Spotify?’ I don’t know. And that’s our job. How crazy is that, that that’s our business, and if you stream my record for more than 30 seconds today, I can’t tell you what that generated. It’s in this mythical bucket.”

In April, Spotify reported that its first-quarter revenue jumped 20% and gross profit topped 1 billion euros ($1.08 billion), helping return the 18-year-old streaming company to profitability and putting it on track to meet its 2024 growth target.

Earlier this month, the streamer announced that it’s raising prices for the second consecutive year, with its premium individual plan in the U.S. increasing by a dollar to $11.99 a month starting July 1. The platform’s duo plan will also go up by a buck to $16.99 a month while the family plan will be increased by $3 to $19.99 a month.

Despite the price hikes, royalty rates recently went down for songwriters on the platform. By adding audiobooks to premium offerings like individual, duo and family plans, Spotify claims these subscriptions are now “bundles” — a type of plan that qualifies it for a discounted rate on U.S. mechanical royalties given that multiple products are offered under one price. According to Billboard estimates, the change means publishers and writers will earn about $150 million less in royalties over the course of Spotify’s first bundled year.

Since the bundling change was first reported, Spotify has been targeted by the National Music Publishers’ Association (NMPA) on multiple fronts. In May, it was hit with a lawsuit by the Mechanical Licensing Collective over the discounted rate. In response, Spotify has called the NMPA’s accusations “baseless” and “misleading” and argued of the MLC lawsuit that “bundles were a critical component” of the Phono IV agreement struck between publishers and streaming services.

Camila Cabello Worried Shawn Mendes Duet ‘Señorita’ Could Make the ‘Couple Thing’ Her ‘New Identity’

Breakups are hard, but being permanently tied to your ex through a smash hit song can be even harder.

In a new Complex cover story published Wednesday (June 26) ahead of her new album C,XOXO, Camila Cabello got candid about her feelings toward “Señorita,” which she released in 2019 with Shawn Mendes just before they started publicly dating — and suffice to say, it’s not necessarily her favorite song in her discography now that the two stars are split up.

When asked whether she ever tires of hearing the Billboard Hot 100-topping duet or “Havana” — which also reached No. 1 on the chart in its heyday — the Fifth Harmony alum said yes, but especially “Señorita.”

“I think there’s always a worry when a song becomes so massive that it’s going to be bigger than you,” she told the publication. “I obviously love that they were so massive and successful. But it does get people attached to you in a certain light. I was in a really public relationship and as a woman, you’re like, ‘I don’t want this couple thing to be my new identity.’”

Trending on Billboard

Cabello and Mendes first sparked romance rumors in July 2019, one month after “Señorita” dropped. The pair went on to date for about two years before announcing their breakup in November 2021, sharing a joint statement that read: “Hey guys, we’ve decided to end our romantic relationship but our love for one another as humans is stronger than ever. We started our relationship as best friends and will continue to be best friends.”

The pair appeared to reunite in April 2023 when fans spotted them packing on PDA at Coachella; however, their rekindling was short-lived. Earlier this year, Cabello confirmed on Call Her Daddy that she and the “Stitches” singer had temporarily gotten back together but quickly decided to end it.

“It was a fun moment,” she said on the podcast. “I think you’re just kind of like, ‘Yeah, this doesn’t really … it’s not a fit — it doesn’t feel right. Luckily, I was in a place in my life where … it took us both less time to be like, ‘This doesn’t feel right and we don’t really need to try so hard to make it work. It’s all good, let’s move on.’”
