Los Ángeles de Charly Celebrate First No. 1 on a Radio Chart With ‘El Primer Tonto’: ‘It’s a Beautiful Surprise’

Mexican group Los Ángeles de Charly earn their first No. 1 on a Billboard radio chart – and any Billboard song ranking – with “El Primer Tonto,” which climbs 7-1 on the Regional Mexican Airplay ranking (dated Sept. 28). The Carlos Becies-led ensemble previously hit No. 1 on Top Latin Albums and Regional Mexican Albums in 2001 with its third studio album, Te Voy a Enamorar.

“El Primer Tonto,” originally composed and released by Mexican group Los Freddy’s in 1980, was later popularized by Joan Sebastian who secured a No. 7 high with the song on Regional Mexican Airplay in January 2002.

With its romantic cumbia turn, “El Primer Tonto,” released June 7 via VMG/Colmena/Azteca Records, takes Los Ángeles de Charly to their first No. 1 on a radio ranking thanks to a 47% surge in audience impressions, to 6.6 million, earned in the U.S. for the tracking week of Sept. 13-19, according to Luminate.

Thanks to “El Primer Tonto,” imprints VMG and Colmena secure their first No. 1 on any Billboard chart. In addition to the two imprints, the “El Primer Tonto” triumph also gives Azteca Records its second champ as a label, following La Fiera de Ojinaga’s one-week reign on Regional Mexican Airplay with “La Luna de Miel” in August 2022.

Los Ángeles de Charly’s first champ on Regional Mexican Airplay arrives 20 years after their last top 10, when “Y Qué” reached No. 10 high in May 2004. In sum, the Mexican cumbia group have logged six top 10s since 1999, with the No. 4-peaking “Un Sueño” in 2001 their highest-charting song until now.

Elsewhere, “El Primer Tonto” advances to its No. 3 peak on the overall Latin Airplay tally, where Los Ángeles de Charly earn their first top 10 to date.

The song is part of the group’s forthcoming studio album to be released in December 2024.

Young Dolph Murder Suspect Carried Out Hit Because He Needed Money for Daughter’s Birthday

One of the shooters involved in Young Dolph‘s murder testified on Monday (Sept. 23.)

Cornelius Smith, who pled guilty to murder, took the stand and implicated himself, Justin Johnson, Hernandez “Quett” Govan and Yo Gotti‘s brother Anthony “Big Jook” Mims in the murder of the beloved Memphis rapper.

Smith testified that Govan organized the hit and Mims put up $100K if they were able to get the job done. Smith said he and Johnson were supposed to receive $40,000 each and Govan was going to get $20,000. However, Smith testified that he only received $800, but Big Jook paid $50,000 in lawyer fees after he was caught.

He also revealed he and Johnson went ahead with the murder on the same day of his daughter’s birthday. When asked why he choose still go through with it, Smith said he needed the money to make his daughter’s day special. “Man, I was trying to make it right for her,” he said. “I ain’t have no money, I’m trying to get some money that day. So I’m trying to make sure my baby girl have a beautiful birthday.”

According to testimony, Smith and Johnson originally planned on carrying out the murder at an annual Thanksgiving turkey drive Dolph organizes, but they spotted his camo-wrapped Corvette and decided to follow him into the parking lot of Makeda’s Homemade Butter Cookies where they allegedly shot Dolph 22 times.

When asked why he decided to tell the truth, Smith said he felt guilty after being arrested and he sobered up, blaming his drug use on the death of his 9-year-old son in 2020. He also said that he wasn’t expecting leniency and was doing talking to clear his conscience. “I’m going to jail anyway. I can get it off my chest,” he said. “It’s my best out to be honest, to be truthful. Why play with these folks? They already know.”

Big Jook was murdered earlier this year in January.

New York State Gets Involved In Auction Of Dame Dash’s Roc-A-Fella Stake

It looks like interest in purchasing Dame Dash’s stake in Roc-A-Fella Records might actually pick up. The State of New York has gotten involved in the situation and refuted Jay-Z’s claims that the crown jewel of Roc-A-Fella Records catalogue, Reasonable Doubt, would revert back to him in a mere seven years.

According to TMZ, the City of New York has taken issue with Jay-Z’s attempt to “sabotage” the auction of Dame Dash’s stake in Roc-A-Fella Records by suggesting it won’t be worth as much without his debut album come 2031 and says that Reasonable Doubt will actually be a part of the iconic label for the next 74 years. With many potential buyers shying away from purchasing Dame’s portion of Roc-A-Fella after Jay-Z’s legal claim to the album, this new piece of news is sure to garner that much more interest in the upcoming auction for Dame’s piece of the pie.

Taking to social media to reveal the new information, Dame Dash broke down what the State of New York said about the situation and how they feel the auction price could now be 10 times higher than its current value given Reasonable Doubt will be part of the catalogue for basically another 100 years.

And while that’s all good and dandy for whoever ends up with the winning bid, that may not be the best of news for Dame Dash himself, as the city really intervened to get what they’re owed by the former co-founder of Roc-A-Fella Records.

Per TMZ:

The City’s Dept. of Social Services has a vested interest in this case because the money Dame makes off the auction will pay off his massive $193,000 child support debt. He also owes the state several million in back taxes.

According to the docs, Jay’s ultimately damaged the city’s interest in getting the highest possible bid in the auction — but Roc-A-Fella Records fired back Monday, through attorney Alex Spiro, saying Jay himself never issued any public statements … and the media simply ran with his termination notice and comments from his “legal team.”

RAF now says the issue of whether the termination notice reverts the rights back to Jay-Z is “woefully unripe” — insisting “this is not the appropriate time, forum, or case” to address these issues.

When the state wants the money they’re owed, they will do whatever it takes to get their coin.

Now that it’s seemingly official that Roc-A-Fella Records is a gold mine with Jay-Z’s debut album remaining with the label for another century, it’ll be interesting to see what the winning bid ends up being and who’ll be the new co-owner of the label.

We wouldn’t be surprised if it was Jay-Z himself. Just sayin’.

Whoopi Goldberg Tells Chiefs Fans Blaming Taylor Swift for Travis Kelce’s Performance to ‘Grow Up’

The Kansas City Chiefs are 3-0 so far this NFL season, but some fans are still disappointed with tight end Travis Kelce‘s performance at the Atlanta Falcons game Sunday (Sept. 22). With some of them finding a way to blame it on his superstar girlfriend, however, Whoopi Goldberg is speaking up in Taylor Swift‘s defense.

On the latest episode of The View Tuesday (Sept. 24), the talk show host cut right to the chase. “They apparently forgot that they won a Super Bowl last year with [Kelce], and [he and Swift] were just as tight then as they are now,” she said. “Grow up, y’all. Stop putting this on her. Your team is fine, your team is doing well. Shut up.”

Though Kelce indeed had a quiet game on Sunday night, notching four receptions for 30 yards and no touchdowns in a nail-biting finish against the Falcons, the Chiefs were still able to win 22-17. Swift was not in attendance at Mercedes-Benz Stadium Sunday, but she has been present at Kansas City’s first two home games of the season.

“She wasn’t even at the game,” pointed out cohost Sunny Hostin. “Is she supposed to play the game too?

“I also love how we’re acting like Taylor Swift is like a magic 8 ball,” added cohost Alyssa Farah. “She can’t magically affect his game.”

The Sister Act star also shared her personal theory as to why Swift is experiencing backlash: her recent endorsement of Kamala Harris in the 2024 presidential election. “I’m blaming MAGA,” Goldberg said before subtly bringing up Republican opponent Donald Trump. “They’re mad that she is not supporting You Know Who.”

Despite the team insisting that Swift’s presence in the Chiefs universe has only been positive, Sunday’s game is hardly the first time football fans have pointed fingers her way. In January, retired Green Bay Packers quarterback Brett Favre suggested that the 14-time Grammy winner would be seen as a “distraction” if Kansas City didn’t win this year’s Super Bowl (they did the following month), and the NFL received so much negativity for its inclusion of Swift in game-day coverage that the league made a statement defending itself last year.

The fourth Sonic Central livestream event was full of announcements regarding everything Sonic The Hedgehog coming in the future.

The live stream event, which kicked off Tuesday at noon Eastern time, gave fans a glimpse into the world of the Sonic the Hedgehog franchise.

While it was short on video game-related announcements, there were still a handful of reveals involving Sonic, his buddies, plus his rival Shadow.

Sonic X Shadows Generations Gets Another Trailer & Other Goodies

A new story trailer for the upcoming game was revealed. We also got more cinematic and gameplay footage focusing on Shadow’s standalone campaign, which hints at some time-traveling adventure involving Shadow chasing down Maria.

Fans can also look forward to a 3-part animated prologue called Dark Beginnings that will “delve into the origins of Shadow’s past.” The first episode, “Shadow and Maria,” will air on 9/25, followed by episode two, “Finding The Way,” on 10/03, and episode three, “To The Ark,” on 10/10.

Those who pre-order a physical edition of Sonic x Shadow Generations will get Gerald Robotnik’s 24-page booklet when the game becomes available when the game arrives on October 25.

Sonic Teams Up With DC Comics For An Epic Crossover

Starting in March 2025, Sonic and his buddies will get a DC Comics makeover. Shadow will, of course, don the cape and cowl as Batman, Sonic will suit up as The Flash, Tails will become Cyborg, Knuckles will become Superman, Amy will become Wonder Woman, and Silver the Hedgehog will become Green Lantern.

Sonic Is Coming To Top Golf

You can join Sonic on the golf course virtually soon at a Top Golf near you. Sonic-themed virtual golf courses allow players to avoid obstacles and collect rings like the blue blur by hitting golf balls.

A Behind The Scenes Look At Sonic The Hedgehog 3

Sonic The Hedgehog 3 is shaping up to be the biggest film in the movie franchise. Not only are all the favorites from the first two films returning, but you can now add Keanu Reeves to the mix, voicing fan-favorite Shadow The Hedgehog.

No new footage from the film was shown, but the team behind the project promised plenty of easter eggs for fans to look out for and shared more information on the film’s plot.

Also announced was Sonic Rumble coming this winter to PC and mobile; Super Monkey Ball Banana Rumble is getting more Sonic downloadable content, a Sonic motorbike helmet, LEGO collaborations, and more.

Ryan Murphy Says Travis Kelce Was the ‘Most Delightful Person’ on ‘Grotesquerie’ Set

Ryan Murphy loved working with Travis Kelce on his upcoming series, Grotesquerie.

“It was very unexpected,” the TV writer shared with ET of writing a role specifically for the Kansas City Chiefs tight end. “I didn’t know Travis and I thought we were having a general meeting, but he was so passionate about wanting to try it, and I always have a theory that ‘a star is a star is a star.’ He’s a big star in every arena. I was just moved by it and his ambition and he’s guy who wants to try new things. I said, ‘Well, I don’t know if I have anything now.’ Then, I thought about it and I did and I called him back and I pitched him, and expanded it and wrote it for him.”

He continued of the athlete, “I love his discipline […] He was a little nervous at first, but we worked together and had a ball. He’s just the most delightful person.

Billie Eilish Partners With Google Maps to Direct Fans to Sustainable Options During Upcoming Tour

Billie Eilish is further distinguishing herself as one of the most environmentally forward thinking artists in music through a new partnership with Google Maps.

As part of Eilish’s Hit Me Hard and Soft tour, which launches Sept. 29 in Quebec City, fans can use Google Maps to find eco-friendly transportation and plant-based food options in many of the places the 43-city world tour is hitting.

Through Maps, Eilish will offer tips for fans looking for sustainable travel options like fuel efficient routes, walking, bike-sharing and public transportation. In each city, Google Maps will offer a walking or public transit route if it’s as convenient and fast as driving in each tour stop city.

Eilish will also offer recommendations on where fans can grab a plant-based meal in Atlanta, Baltimore, Chicago, Detroit, Los Angeles, Minneapolis, Nashville, New York, Philadelphia and Washington, D.C. Fans can simply search for one of these tour cities in Maps and scroll down to find Eilish’s picks.

In an interview with Billboard earlier this year, Eilish and her mom Maggie Baird, the founder of Support + Feed, which encourages access to plant-based foods, spoke about incorporating sustainability measures into Eilish’s career.

“It’s a never-ending f–king fight,” Eilish said. “As we all know, it’s pretty impossible to force someone to care. All you can do is express and explain your beliefs, but a lot of people don’t really understand the severity of the climate [crisis]. And if they do, they’re like, ‘Well, what’s the point? We’re all going to die anyway.’ Believe me, I feel that way too. But ‘what’s the point’ goes both ways: ‘What’s the point? I can do whatever I want. We’re all going to die anyway.’ Or, ‘What’s the point? I might as well do the right thing while I’m here.’ That’s my view.”

Meek Mill Wants to Give Detectives $100K to Uncover Why He’s Connected to Diddy Case

Meek Mill let off a series of tweets last night offering up $100K for an investigative team to figure out why fans and media outlets keep mentioning his name with Diddy.

“I wanna hire an investigative team 100k cash to find out every specific detail involving meek mill name to ‘Diddy’ Case,” he wrote on X. “I also want them to look at who is powering the media involving ‘meek’ anything to do with buddy! ‘Something not right.’”

In another tweet, he wondered if there was a conspiracy afoot. “The streets know wassup with me thats not the case,” he said. “We talking about business side ,somebody powering these bad campaigns [shrug emoji] with ‘meeek mill’ again I got 100k for a thorough investigation of who’s powering and how exactly my name connect to this…”

Most of the drama unfolded when a picture of Meek and Diddy in matching shirts surfaced on social media. Actor Peter Dinklage was also in the photo which prompted users to speculate on what went on that night.

One user, actor Julito McCullum who starred in HBO’s The Wire, replied to Meek’s call to action with the aforementioned pic and said, “Case solved.”

Meek has been fighting online allegations about his relationship with the embattled mogul since earlier this year. Rap streamer/blogger DJ Akademiks alleged the Philly rapper’s name was redacted in a lawsuit by Rodney “Lil Rod” Jones. This sparked a rant from Meek with the rapper telling Akademiks to “stop playing with [his] name” and that he’s “an alcoholic fully powered by the White man.”
