Mariah The Scientist Denied Young Thug Jail Visit | Billboard News

Mariah The Scientist was denied a jail visit to visit Young Thug and celebrate their three year anniversary. Keep watching to see her rant.

Tetris Kelly:

Mariah the Scientist tried to visit her boyfriend Young Thug on their three-year anniversary. Apparently, the visiting system at the Fulton County Jail, where Thugger was, was down. The singer went on Instagram Live to vent a little bit to her followers.

Mariah The Scientist:

“I done drove all the way to this motherf—ing jail. The jail is like 30 minutes away from the city okay first of all. I done drove all the way to this motherf—ing jail and stopped at the Party City in between, so I could tape up my lil’ happy anniversary sign in the back, ’cause it’s not face-to-face, it’s through a screen, by the way. I done drove all the way to this motherf—ing jail with my little ‘Happy Anniversary’ sh*t and my motherf—ing Scotch tape for me to get inside of the jail and for them to say the system is down. I’m devastated.”

Thug has been on trial since November of 2023 as he and his crew YSL are facing RICO charges. He’s been incarcerated since May 2022 and the trial has been the longest in Georgia history.

Lance Bass & Husband Michael Turchin Celebrate Their Twins’ 3rd Birthday: ‘It’s Gonna Be THRAYYY!!!’

Lance Bass and Michael Turchin’s twin son and daughter celebrated their third birthday in style Tuesday (Oct. 8).

In photos shared to the *NSYNC alum’s Instagram, the family of four got a jump start on the toddlers’ birthday festivities — they don’t actually turn 3 until Oct. 13 — by serving up Tile Town-themed cakes opening presents and posing in front of a wall of balloons. While daughter Violet blew out the candle on her very own Tiffany-blue cake decorated with small animals, Alexander enjoyed a custom Paw Patrol-inspired cake.

Meanwhile, Bass and the actor — who have been married since 2014 — pose with frosting on their noses and feed their little ones bits of cake. “It’s gonna be THRAYYY!!!” the “Bye Bye Bye” singer captioned the snaps on Instagram, a play on his former boy band’s 2000 smash “It’s Gonna Be Me.”

“The birthday fun is in full swing,” he added. “Tile Town, cake, and two happy toddlers—what more could you ask for?”

Trending on Billboard

Bass and Turchin welcomed Alexander and Violet via surrogate in 2021. “The baby dragons have arrived!!” the musician wrote on Instagram at the time. “I can not express how much love I feel right now. Thank you for all the kind wishes. It meant a lot. Now, how do you change a diaper??!”

The family’s wholesome party comes less than a week ahead of the presidential election, throughout which Bass has been vocal in his support for Democratic nominee Kamala Harris. In July, he filmed a video with the VP, “Hey Kamala, what are we gonna say to Donald Trump in November?”

“Bye bye bye,” she quipped in response.

A few months later, Bass appeared on Andy Cohen’s Watch What Happens Live. While on the show, the performer shared a story about Sean “Diddy” Combs, whose name has been all over the news of late as he awaits trial for charges of sex trafficking and racketeering.

“It’s kinda horrible, but never kinda liked him,” Bass said on the show of Diddy, who opened for *NSYNC on the band’s 2002 tour. “The very last show in Orlando, I overheard him talking to Justin [Timberlake] being like, ‘You need to drop these… effers! You need to go solo! And I was like, ‘I don’t like you anymore Diddy.’ I’m like, ‘At my own show? What the hell?’”

It only took 30 years, but Will Smith and Michael Bay are finally working together again.

Spotted on Variety and first reported by Deadline, Will Smith and Michael Bay will reunite for the upcoming Netflix action film Fast and Loose.

According to the website, Fast and Loose will follow a man, played by Smith, who wakes up in Tijuana with no memories. As he works to regain his memory, he learns that he has been living a double life as a crime kingpin and an undercover CIA agent.

The upcoming project marks the first time Smith and Bay have worked together since 1995’s box office blockbuster Bad Boys, which also starred Martin Lawrence and went on to spawn three successful sequels.

Speaking of Lawrence, the actor/comedian joked on X, formerly Twitter, “Don’t forget about ya boy.”

Variety notes that Jon Hoeber, Erich Hoeber, Chris Bremner, and Eric Pearson will work on the script with Smith, Kelly McCormick, and David Leitch for 87North, serving as producers.

Jon Mone and Ryan Shimazaki are in negotiations to produce for Westbrook Studios.

Since Bad Boys, Smith has become one of Hollywood’s biggest names. He won an Acadmey Award for his portrayal of Richard Williams in King Richard and starred in Apple’s Emancipation in 2022. He is set to star in the long-awaited sequel to I Am Legend alongside Michael B. Jordan and Sony Pictures’ sci-fi thriller Resistor.

Michael Bay has been busy blowing things up on screen in blockbuster Transformers live-action films and has sat in the director’s chair for other high-action films like Pearl Harbor and Ambulance.

Celine Dion Tears Up in Emotional Reaction to Kelly Clarkson’s ‘Incredible’ Kellyoke Cover of ‘My Heart Will Go On’

Celine Dion‘s heart will definitely go on for Kelly Clarkson.

Following the Kelly Clarkson Show host’s powerful Kellyoke cover of the icon’s classic Titanic ballad “My Heart Will Go On,” Dion shared a tearful reaction to the tribute in a video posted to social media on Tuesday (Oct. 8).

“I just saw you singing ‘My Heart Will Go On,’ and I’m crying again,” the Canadian superstar says in the clip, wiping away tears. “You were absolutely incredible, fantastic. I loved it so much. I hope we can see each other in person soon.”

Dion also thanked Clarkson for her support during the 2024 Olympics, which saw the former making a triumphant return to the stage in July after privately battling a rare and debilitating neurological illness called Stiff Person Syndrome. After Dion nailed the final notes of a glorious cover of Édith Piaf’s “Hymne A L’Amour” during the Paris Games’ opening ceremony, NBC’s broadcast cut to the American Idol alum, who served as one of this year’s commentators.

“If you know anything about Celine right now, she feels this is her purpose … and if you know anything about what she’s going through right now — I’m so sorry, I’m trying to hold it together right now,” Clarkson said at the time, getting choked up. “But then she got through that. That was incredible. In my field, she is the gold winner for vocal athletes.”

A little over three months later, Dion is recognizing the “Stronger” singer for her kind words. “Kelly, when I came back from the Olympics, I got to watch and listen to your reaction to my performance on the Eiffel Tower,” Dion says in the new video. “It was so sweet to hear you. Your voice was breaking and it touched me so tremendously. You were crying, and then you made me start crying. What’s up with all this frickin’ crying?”

Dion’s praise is undoubtedly meaningful to Clarkson, especially considering what the latter said of “My Heart Will Go On” shortly after performing it on The Kelly Clarkson Show: “Usually I would never cover that song because there’s some songs you don’t want to go near as a vocalist.”

See Dion’s reaction to Clarkson’s rendition of “My Heart Will Go On” below.

Venesti Shares 5 Facts You Didn’t Know About Him | Billboard

Venesti shares five personal things about his life, including where he was born, when he started to create music and more!

Venesti:

Hi, I’m Venesti, and these are five things you didn’t know about me. The first thing is that I love TV series. The second is that I don’t like partying at all — socially maybe. I love creating the party for others to enjoy it. So if I’m partying, it’s that I’m performing. The third is that I moved out on my own when I was 14 years old. I went to live on my own at the age of 14 years old to pursue my dream. And the fourth thing you probably don’t know about me is that I’m from a small town of less than 20,000 people. It is called Guapi Cauca, in the Colombian Pacific. Many people think I am from Cali, but in reality I am from Guapi Cauca. The fifth is that I came to a family that welcomed me very well. I met them because I was a composer and they pushed me to be a singer, and that family is AP Global Music, where Pablo welcomed me as a son and gives me the opportunity to make music.

How UTA Nashville’s Curt Motley & Nick Barnes Are Building Their Artists’ Careers Beyond Music

On Aug. 28, just over six months after the death of country music star Toby Keith at age 62, NBC celebrated his work and his influence on some of country music’s biggest stars in a two-hour special, Toby Keith: American Icon. Eric Church, Tyler Hubbard, Parker McCollum, Jelly Roll, Darius Rucker, Carrie Underwood, Clay Walker and Lainey Wilson were among those who feted Keith, an oilfield worker-turned-musician known for his steely determination; burly, commanding voice; and top-flight, often witty songwriting that fueled many of his 20 No. 1s on Billboard’s Country Airplay chart.

The special drew 4.7 million viewers, was the No. 1 show in its time slot and was NBC’s most-watched primetime entertainment special of 2024, according to the network. And Luminate data shows a bump in the Oklahoma native’s streams in the weeks following its airing. On the Sept. 14-dated Digital Song Sales chart, streams of “Should’ve Been a Cowboy” totaled 3.4 million; a 344% jump.

Spearheading the special behind the scenes were UTA’s Curt Motley — Keith’s personal agent for approximately three decades — and his colleague Nick Barnes. The duo packaged the concert and worked with Keith’s longtime manager, TK Kimbrell; the late artist’s family members; Universal Music Group Nashville; the label’s newly launched Sing Me Back Home Productions film/TV division; and Thinkfactory and its CEO, Adam Reed.

“We wanted artists who had connective tissue to Toby, whether they were his friends or had toured with him,” Motley says of the special’s lineup. “A lot of artists came forward and said, ‘We love Toby, and we sing his songs every night.’ There were also a handful of people on the show who had never actually met Toby but were huge fans. We wanted to honor that legacy through multiple generations of country music.”

Motley, who joined UTA in 2016, also reps a roster that includes Jamey Johnson and Sawyer Brown.

“This [wine] bottle celebrates the life of the King of Wyoming, Chris LeDoux,” Motley says. “Music legend, [1976] world champion bareback rider and one of the finest humans to ever walk the earth.”

Barnes, who joined the company in 2017, specializes in connecting music artists to projects in TV, film and branding while overseeing UTA’s Heartland division, which focuses on family- and faith-based storytelling. Those clients include film/TV creators the Erwin Brothers and Dallas Jenkins (The Chosen).

UTA’s Nashville team has simultaneously fostered the success of a crop of country newcomers that includes Megan Moroney (“Tennessee Orange”), Dylan Gossett (“Coal”), Brittney Spencer (“Bigger Than the Song”), Chayce Beckham (“23”), HunterGirl (“Ain’t About You”), Ian Munsick (“Long Live Cowgirls”) and Oliver Anthony (the Billboard Hot 100 chart-topper “Rich Men North of Richmond”).

What can new artists learn from the career Toby Keith built?

CURT MOTLEY: Toby was fearlessly unapologetic. He had a vision for what he wanted to do, and he didn’t waver on that line. When you’re good at something like he was, you don’t need other people to validate you. It’s a much harder road, but the fruits at the end of it are so much greater.

How does UTA Nashville differ from other agencies’ country music divisions?

NICK BARNES: An artist’s career should be multihyphenate to have longevity. They should be touching film, television and branding. We are starting earlier than ever in artists’ careers to find opportunities outside of touring to broaden their reach. Historically, these opportunities have existed for artists that were well into their careers. For instance, a feature film based on a hit song or a theatrical tour documentary — [intellectual property] that reflects country music’s way of life. For a long time, it was an antagonistic view. Now this community is embraced more for what it is. The Heartland division serves as the crossover arm for music artists here and is having success in feature film, television, unscripted productions, book publishing and more.

The Toby Keith “Super Bowl” ring was created by Live Nation’s Brian O’Connell to commemorate his 11 USO tours and over 240 shows in support of America’s armed forces, Motley says. Only four exist.

TikTok and other social media outlets have changed the game for new artists. How do you sift through viral moments to find acts that won’t be one-hit wonders?

BARNES: It’s a balance between a gut feeling based off our experience and the data that is brought and analyzed by our team at UTA IQ — a world-class group of data analysts with proprietary tools we have built and continue to improve.

When you consider signing an artist, do you determine if they’re a strong live act? It’s key to an act’s longevity.

MOTLEY: You also have to look at consumption numbers, including streaming and social growth velocity, as an indicator for live viability.

UTA recently launched a Christian music division that has Brandon Lake, Phil Wickham, Lecrae and Forrest Frank among its clients. What do you feel is driving the growth in that genre?

BARNES: When we told one of the artists on our roster about the announcement, they said, “That’s like the Avengers of Christian music.” There’s a broader trend afoot in the faith community. In the aughts, a lot of Christian bands wanted to cross over. They were like, “We are Christian bands but we want to be rock bands. We don’t want to be labeled as [contemporary Christian music].” We are seeing Christian bands and artists now that are leaning into who they are, and that’s resonating with the fans. When Forrest Frank is printing merch that says, “I am a child of God,” and he’s selling them as fast as they can put them on the merch table, and his shows are filled with kids and teens that are on fire for his music — I think that’s the correlation.

“I’m proud of the moment that Heartland comics are having right now,” Barnes says. “Both posters are from sold-out Nashville shows by two clients: John Crist and Leanne Morgan.”

What kind of market share do you see Christian music attaining in the next five years, and what are the demographics of the fan base?

BARNES: We think consumption will double. Similar to other genres, streaming artists that aren’t dependent on radio are bringing a younger demographic into the market. Streaming has created a multigenerational fan base for the genre.

Country music streaming is surging globally. How does that affect your work?

BARNES: When we’re watching the algorithm trends on the [digital service providers], they’re the same in Dublin as they are in Nashville. They’re the same in Australia as they are in Brazil, which are all burgeoning markets for country music. And we are starting to take artists to the U.K. first to build fans.

MOTLEY: Oliver [Anthony]’s Out of the Woods tour started in the U.K., and we started Dylan Gossett’s [No Better Time] tour in the same areas. They were incredibly well received.

What else are you doing to build fan bases overseas?

MOTLEY: Agents across the globe — especially in our London office — are leaning into country music and integrating it into the fabric of our business here. This allows us to get in early with partners abroad and leads to opportunities that allow aggressive first-look tours. Recent examples are Megan Moroney, Oliver Anthony and Dylan Gossett.

For a newer artist, what are other advantages of launching a tour abroad?

BARNES: One advantage is being able to start a business over there that you can return to when you need to take a break [from touring stateside]. In the American markets, oftentimes our clients have played a lot of hard- and soft-ticket tours and they need to let the U.S. cool off a bit. [If they have played overseas], we’ve already built relationships with promoters and have a base of fans.

“I’ve always been a Marty Stuart apostle,” Barnes says. “Marty once opened for The Steve Miller Band at the Ryman, and Steve signed this poster to Marty — including a few special doodles. It ended up forgotten in a closet, but when we moved offices, it was passed on to me as a gift.”

MOTLEY: It is expensive to travel and perform abroad, but when you’re just starting out, your costs are going to be a lot less [because you’re doing smaller-scale shows]. If you wait too long, that opportunity cost is hard. But when you build that fan base from the get-go — we’re going back with Dylan this year and playing big rooms, and we just started in February.

Touring costs in general have increased significantly. How are artists navigating that?

MOTLEY: Post-COVID, we had that big wave where everyone had to get out and go see a show. There wasn’t a bus you could rent; there wasn’t a venue that was available anywhere. I think we are at the tail end of that now, but everything has remained more expensive. Just to lease a bus right now is more than twice as expensive as it was in 2019. It’s almost impossible for acts that tour in a window that’s only four to five months a year to be able to afford that, so we’ve got to charge more for tickets. The big, white-hot shows are largely unaffected right now, but for other things, people are making choices again. It’s probably a bit cyclical as well. I think we will see it even out. There has been a lot of debate about the climbing prices of concert tickets.

Do you think they’ve hit a ceiling?

MOTLEY: Although the pandemic curve has flattened, as it pertains to white-hot stadium-level artists, it does not appear that we have hit a ceiling — especially given the number of tickets and pricing on the secondary market. But underneath that, artists have to be conscious of the market to have the best chance at success.

Joe Buck’s Family Forbids Him From Joking About Taylor Swift & Travis Kelce On Air: ‘My Daughters Warned Me’

Since Taylor Swift became a major part of Kansas City Chiefs games, a couple of announcers have tripped up when referring to her during game day broadcasts — but Joe Buck doesn’t plan to fall into that trap.

After co-announcer Troy Aikman mistakenly referred to the pop star as Travis Kelce’s “Mrs.” during the Chiefs vs. New Orleans Saints match on Monday, Buck revealed that such missteps wouldn’t fly in his house. “My daughters have warned me multiple times today: ‘Dad, I know you think you’re funny, don’t make any jokes,’” Buck told the former Dallas Cowboys quarterback on air.

Moments before that, cameras had panned to Swift’s reaction to one of Kelce’s second-quarter plays. As the “Anti-Hero” singer cheered and applauded her boyfriend, Aikman said: “The Mrs. likes it.”

Trending on Billboard

“You know they’re not married?” Buck corrected him at the time, to which Aikman replied, “I’m sure I’m in trouble for saying that.”

“I mean, it happens,” added Buck.

Aikman’s slip-up comes about 10 months after Tony Romo made headlines for a similar reason. During a Chiefs game in the 2023-24 season — which later saw Kansas City win the Super Bowl — Romo accidentally said during his broadcast, “As you see Kelce’s wife, Taylor Swift, in the audience … I’m sorry, girlfriend.”

Currently on a break from her global Eras Tour, Swift has attended several Chiefs games so far this season to cheer Kelce on. At her most recent outing to Arrowhead Stadium, the 14-time Grammy winner sported a plaid dress, platform boots and eye-catching glitter freckles on her cheeks.

After the game ended with a Chiefs victory 26-13, the tight end joined Swift in her box suite and leaned in for a PDA-filled moment, as captured on camera by a fan. The team remains undefeated with a 5-0 record, and will next face off against their 2024 Super Bowl opponents, the San Francisco 49ers, on Oct. 20.

Billie Eilish Gets Candid About Supporting Kamala Harris | Billboard News

Billie Eilish gets real about her support for Kamala Harris as president in her ‘Vogue’ cover story. Keep watching to see what she had to say.

Tetris Kelly:

Billie Eilish is doubling down on her support of Kamala Harris for president. And she had some kind words to share about the future. The “BIRDS OF A FEATHER” singer is on the cover of ‘Vogue,’ and she has this to say about Kamala and our future. “A lot of my fans are going to be able to vote for the first time. So i’m like, ‘Do you like freedom?’” The nine-time Grammy winner continued, “First female president? Would be really amazing. I would love to feel safe as a woman in my country.”

Eilish first joined the election discourse in September when she and her older brother, Finneas, filmed a video together emphatically endorsing the Democratic ticket.

Billie Eilish:

We are voting for Kamala Harris and Tim Walz because they are fighting to protect our reproductive freedom, our planet, and our democracy.

Maxwell’s ‘Simply Beautiful’ Cover Hits No. 1 on Adult R&B Airplay

Maxwell captures the No. 1 rank on Billboard’s Adult R&B Airplay chart for the first time in over two years as his single “Simply Beautiful” crowns the list dated Oct. 12. Rising from No. 2, the track was the most-played song on U.S. monitored adult R&B radio stations in the tracking week of Sept. 27 – Oct. 3, according to Luminate, and improved 9% in plays.

With his chart-topping cover, Maxwell collects his ninth No. 1 on the Adult R&B Airplay chart. He matches Tank and Usher for the fourth-most leaders since the list began in 1993; the trio trail only Alicia Keys (14), Toni Braxton (11) and Charlie Wilson (10) on the overall leaderboard.

“Simply Beautiful,” distributed through Musze/BMG, is a cover of an Al Green track that the soul legend released on a 1972 album, I’m Still In Love With You. Though the cover is Maxwell’s first studio-released rendition of the song, the singer has performed the track live for years, including at the 2008 BET Awards when Green received the lifetime achievement award.

“Hitting No. 1 on Billboard’s Adult R&B Airplay radio chart for a ninth time with my take on an Al Green’s ‘Simply Beautiful’ is an honor,” Maxwell tells Billboard. “Al is a true legend and force, and I was amazed from the first time I heard his music. It reminds me of the impact that great music can have, and I’m just thankful to be part of it.”

As “Simply Beautiful” joins Maxwell’s No. 1 collection on the radio chart, here’s an updated recap of his nine champs:

“Fortunate,” 18 weeks at No. 1, beginning May 22, 1999
“Lifetime,” 15, Sept. 29, 2001
“Pretty Wings,” 12, July 4, 2009
“Bad Habits,” nine, Oct. 10, 2009
“Fistful of Tears,” two, April 17, 2010
“Fire We Make,” with Alicia Keys, seven, June 22, 2013
“Lake By The Ocean,” 10, June 18, 2016
“Off,” two, April 2, 2022
“Simply Beautiful,” one (to date), Oct. 12, 2024

Maxwell’s last three Adult R&B Airplay appearances – 2019 single “Shame,” which reached No. 8, “Off” and “Simply Beautiful” – have so-far been standalone singles. The Grammy Award-winner’s last album, blackSUMMERS’night, was released in 2016.

Elsewhere, “Simply Beautiful” advances 15-12 on the R&B/Hip-Hop Airplay chart, which ranks songs by combined audience totals from adult R&B and mainstream R&B/hip-hop radio stations. There, the cover single registered 5.7 million in audience, an 18% jump from the prior week. The three-spot climb makes it Maxwell’s best showing on the chart since “Lake By the Ocean” also reached No. 12, in 2016.
